Nervous...first burp/choking incident.
NancyNC posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 12/23 and so far so good until this morning. I was getting ready for work (first day back) and I got choked on some phlegm/slime stuff (sorry, tmi). I just coughed very hard and gagged, never threw up, nothing to throw up probably cause I am still on liquid phase. I am nervous about damage, slipping to the band. I feel like I have a precious, delicate implant and am now nervous to cough/gag. -
Cheri..pain meds make me projectile puke (TMI). I have always had adverse reaction to them. I never fill scripts after surgery. I just tough it out. DH thinks I have extremely high tolerance for pain. Right now I would say there is no tolerance what-so-ever. I have thrown up many times from stones but since being banded, it's different. It's almost like my new stomach does not have the option to vomit. I just wreath and say a certain cuss word that even offends the dog. Thanks for sending hugs, Cheri Janet...got the sympathy and hugs....they arrived shortly after you sent them! Thanks.

Disney World on 2nd week of Post-OP Liquid Diet?
june09bandit replied to Excited4Change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is probably TMI, but it was my experience. I would have been miserable at a setting like Disney. I had horrible, "urgent", bowel movements when I was on liquids. Urgent defined as 1 minute or less to make it to the restroom. Just something to consider.... -
Pre-op liquid diet, man I dont miss that! I remember, luckily I only had to do it for 5 days. But one day, a supervisor at work walked in w/ KFC!!! And then offered me a big ol' peice of crispy fried chicken!!!! Talk about will power to say no. I was extremely sluggish on the diet. What helps is the Protein. I still get sluggish if I hadn't had my protein in for the day and i'm about 8 months post op. Now my pre-op diet was CLEAR liquids, so getting in my protein was alittle tricker than if you get full liquids. You could try Isopure, it gets me through when I'm on clear liquids, has something like 40grams of protein, but extremely sweet! Mix w/ Water so you can get it down. Side note- my dietician said when you are on nothing but liquids you can get loose stools. Sorry if that's TMI, but wanted you to be aware.

Hello All, Just a quick update. A lot of the issues I was experiencing were due to the fact that my chest was so heavy (from the gas) and I was too weak to truly blow my nose (TMI, I know). This caused the feelings of suffocation I was having. Guess the snowstorm that was going on didn't help. As soon as I was strong enough to blow, I started feeling much better. Thankfully, once I had my drain tube taken out, much of the pain and discomfort I was experiencing was gone too! I just wanted to share this with others because it was so VERY unexpected and caused me such distress and nobody knew what was wrong. Knowing is half the battle! Merry Christmas and a VERY Happy New "You" Year to all!!!!

December Bandsters 2009
Idlewyld90210 replied to illuminationlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm finally banded and am 2 days post op! YEAH!! It really was not bad at all like I thought it would be. As soon as I got to the recovery room I was ready to get up and walk around (but of course they wouldnt let me do anything that quickly My inscisions are a little sore, but nothing major, and I didnt have any of the shoulder pain that I've ready about. My biggest problem now (sorry if its TMI) is gas in my abdomen that just seems to sit there. Any solutions other than walking (which I've been constantly doing)??? -
Can't help you in regards to the individual Dr. but can tell you that I too flew on day 3 without issue. I live in a rural area, so to get to Mexicali where my surgery was done, I had a combined 5 hour drive then 5 hour flight. Actually the drive was split some before and some following the flight. I did it all with no pain meds. When we stopped in Phoenix, I took a dose of liquid Tylenol, as I had a killer headache following the flight---but no pain related to banding. I paid extra close attention to moving regularly during both the flight and the drive, so it lessened the worry of blood clots. I should have drank more than I did, because my biggest issue was a day or 2 of constipation----but that was short lived, and was replaced with the opposite problem during my liquid phase! Liquids in=Liquids out. TMI, I know, but if it happens, it is normal!! I did not have a real strong pre op diet, we were (my SIL and I went together for banding) on something like an Atkins diet. High Protein, very low fat for 10 days. Not difficult to follow. Good Luck on your surgery! What a great way to start the new year! If I can be of any help as you go through this feel free to PM me any time!

Just want to let you know that in the post-op class I had today, they said this is normal. And, I've had the same thing and so did the lady sitting next to me. Mine is slowly getting more solid. Sorry, more TMI!!! -
almost a week post-op....
kels764 replied to kels764's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all of the tips! Theyre much appreciated! My doctor will not allow me to have a laxative because he says it causes rebound constipation. So I can have benefiber and such... but today ive been able to survive on just tylenol so Im hoping that will help my bowels....TMI: I am having small bowel movements, but theyre not solid at all. I guess because Im only consuming liquids? but it still feels like theres something in there.... My port site just feels like the fat is pulling down on it or something when I lay on my side...my butt is so sore from laying on my freaking back! Im ready to sleep on my stomach again lol... I havent had a big issue with hunger...but I am having problems with seeing other people eat and wanting it....even though I dont feel hungry. I still have cravings and everything like that... How do yall incorporate Protein in your diet? I was supposed to start protein on the 4th day postop but cannot do the shakes that I have....I bought something called "Any Whey" and am going to start mixing it with my carnation instant Breakfast. One more question and then Im done I promise! lol What Vitamins do yall take? I have chewable but theyre huge and disgusting...so I bought gummy vitamins but Im worried I shouldnt do those since theyre gummy and sticky? once again sorry for all of the questions! -
It hurts. But it hurts worse if you go in there without preparing! I have long pubes (sorry if TMI) and if you can trim to about 1/4", it's slightly better. My last Brazilian was a year and a half ago. I'm still getting ingrowns. I seem to have a problem with that, and they are NASTY. It was fun while it was bare, though. Oh, and for your "big girls" question? I wasn't *all that* big when I went, but I was horrified when my esthetician gave me what looked like a washcloth to cover up! I had to ask for a "real" towel just for my insecurity... sara

2 days post-op, 1 more day till I can eat real food!
adagray commented on adagray's blog entry in Blog 52574
Things have been a little more rough since I left the hospital. The dosage of pain medication I was prescribed for home is significantly less than what I was getting in the hospital and boy does it make a difference!!! My gas pain was pretty bad last night and the gas-x strips don't seem to work very well on it when it is in my back and shoulder. A heating pad helps w/my back, though, and I did end up getting a good night's sleep. I had one big farting episode in the middle of the night that helped relieve a lot of the gas pressure and then another today. I have never wished I could fart more in my whole life. I would love to just toot toot toot all the rest of this out of my body and be done w/it. Sorry, TMI!!! I am also really getting tired of only being able to have broth, herbal tea, diet jello, and water. I did discuss this w/my surgeon's assistant and she assured me that the hunger I am feeling right now is really just head hunger. And, I agree because this doesn't feel like the real hunger I had right before surgery. Right before surgery (I had not eaten for 24 hours), my stomach was growling really bad and felt like it was eating itself. I couldn't think of anything except how hungry I was and how I wanted to be knocked out so I wouldn't feel hungry. My 'hunger' now is more of just wanting to taste and enjoy something different than jello, broth, and tea. Anyway, I am so thankful my husband has been so supportive and helpful AND has not been eating around me. What a saint! He went over to my inlaws tonight w/the kids for dinner. I just have to get through one more day of no eating now and then I can start trying foods on Monday. My surgeon has you go straight to real food, but to be safe I will start w/cottage cheese or yogurt I think. Then, I have some good deli meat I got from Costco and also some smoked salmon. Mmmmmmmm, that sounds so good. I also have some yummy soups in the pantry... roasted red pepper & tomato w/a dollop of greek yogurt... mmmmmm, I am giving myself more 'head hunger' now. I watched Julie and Julia last night. What a great movie to watch when you can't eat eh? -

I'm the same way. I've never had spotting, but I have this discharge (tmi) and cramps. Each month since surgery I've been able to pinpoint the date and mark an O on my calendar and then when my cycle starts the next month I count backwards 14 days and it's been right on. That was one of the worst things when I was so heavy, my body just wasn't working properly anymore. I'm so glad you have this back too!!!

DeeDee, You could have it altered to fit for not much cost. I've "taken up" some of my scrubs, and (TMI my underpants which were falling off...) If you can sew, some alterations are quite easy. Others...well, get to know a good seamstress for the dresses and clothes that you love. Great job working your sleeve!

Day Six postop.....questions...
twobluecats posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I'm progressing day by day....but I have questions. I've asked on OH too, but there are so many recent patients here, that I thought I'd ask here as well. This is a TMI question.....how long before I can expect a bowel movement? I know I'm pretty much on liquids only, but nothing here so far. I took some Miralax last night, and I'm gonna try some more today. I am also working on some more walking. And, can you guys tell me what you lost the first week? I know I shouldn't expect much, but I am just curious. I think I've lost about 3-5 pounds, but I'm retaining Water too. I think walking will help with that. Thanks for all the amazing support here! Theresa -
I did for a while have to make myself go to the bathroom and drink/eat. It gets better! My throat was sore for days too, and it was almost as if I had a sinus infection...sorry, TMI and gross... Take care hon!!!

Not TMI!! If we can't ask each other, who else can we ask?? I had my 1st BM 2 days after surgery and have had at least one every day since (all liquid of course) I was also advised that if you feel like you have to fart, maybe do it on the toilet because sometimes it isn't just fart! I have not had trouble sleeping, but I have been very lucky with little pain. Hope this helps and again just a warning--it may not always be a fart!:smile2:

I'm two days out from surgery and I'm not feeling too much gas pains any more. Although my back and neck are sore, I think from holding my tummy in while getting up and down. I'm taking the liquid tylenol for that. I'm wondering, TMI question here, how long after surgery before you had your first BM? I had one Wednesday evening before surgery, but nothing since then. Also, how long can you sleep at once without having to get up and walk around? I can sleep for about 4 hours, then I wake up, even in the middle of the night, and walk, get a drink, medicate.

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
KayleighsMommy replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm finally home, and just trying to lose the weight I "found" in MI. It wAs a heck of a trip. I am still tired. My grandparents are both 92, and not in the best of health. My grandma has end stage kidney failure. I could see her declining in the 3 weeks I was there. It was quite scary to see. I don't expect her to live until our next trip back (in March) this makes me really sad, but it must be faced. My grandpa is in really bad mental state. He has Altzheimers, but he is not completely gone. In his more lucid times (though fewer and farther between every day) he knows something is wrong with him. He prays and talks to God all day (he was never particularly religious before) It must just be terrible to know you are not right. I keep telling my grandmother he has the mental capacity of a 3 year old, but she won't believe me. She gets so upset and mad when he makes messes, or doesn't do what she tells him to do. I just hope it is over for them soon. I hope that doesn't make me sound like a terrible person, but there is very little quality of life there.... my grandpa with his mental state and my grandma feeling like she is being punished for earlier misdeads by having to take care of him. I won't get too graphic here.... but let's just say it involves a lot of dirty butt wiping. (sorry if still too TMI) On a happier note..... Happy Belated Birthday to Theresa and Gen. Hope they were great. Theresa, hope you had a fun time at the casino..... sorry I was in MI and not able to make it. Did ya win?????........ Looks like we have lots of good losses going on here. Too bad I have managed to find what everyone else lost. My husband got me a Wii fit while we were away. Already managed to hurt myself with it. BEFORE IT WAS EVEN OUT OF THE BOX!!!!! I dropped the box on my foot. Man, was it heavy. Hopefully nothing is broken!!!!! Hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for the Holidays. I really need to get out and get my shopping done or there is going to be one very unhappy little girl her Christmas morning. I did manage to get her 2 Zhou Zouh hamsters, but nothing to go with them. Hopefully I will be able to find some accessories by Christmas. Hope to see everyone soon. -
Surgery day is tomorrow. I know I'm not gonna get much sympathy from you all cause I know most of you had to do a pre-op liquid diet. But, for me, this morning was my last meal. I had hard boiled eggs and polenta... trying to stick w/the surgeon's recommendation on what a 'light breakfast is'. My paperwork said eggs and toast, but I have an intolerance to gluten so bread does not agree w/me. So, I ate some leftover polenta (cornmeal mush type thing) I had made for dinner the other night. Its hard to eat 'light' when you know you are not eating again for 5 days! Ack!!! :crying: For lunch, I am only supposed to have soup, then I do the bowel prep (magnesium citrate) at 1pm. I am soooooooo not looking forward to that. I am NOT constipated ever so this stuff is probably gonna give me terrible diarreah. Sorry, TMI! Anyway, I am excited to get on w/this. Its been a long time coming. It took me the whole year to get all the stuff done required by my insurance and then I was denied twice and was finally approved on my second appeal. I am sooooooo ready to get this done now. I've mostly just been paranoid for the last two weeks that I would get sick and that would delay my surgery once again. Yesterday I had a scare because I thought I was getting a sore throat, but it turned out to be just an inflamed tastebud on the back of my tongue. I was inspecting and poking my tongue and finally figured it out. And, today it is gone since I stopped gargling w/salt water.

gotta remember that. I tried alot of things..............I think I was stuck. But how do you know if your to tight or just stuck?? one can lead to the other. Obviously I didn't do more than walking cause nothing burst loose!!! LOL. Nicollie and Tamra metamucil after surgery is a no-no. I use the Benefiber and take some everyday. WOrks like magic and the orange ones aren't to bad. The MOM doesn't work for me I don't know why. Maybe I didn't swallow enough. Awful stuff. But last time I wait for two days and it didn't do anything. TMI I know. I thought the MOM was for emergencies!! LOL. Cranberry juice. WOw you better have a bathroom close. I think it cleans the kidneys out and than starts running straight through............ I am so hooked on this cranberry thing right now.......got some more today.
