    NSV tonight

My size 22 capri's from Stein Mart are falling off of course better quality of clothing. Tonight I try on my cheap pair of jeans from walmart size 22 and they fit, woohoo, excited. doin the happy dance.
  3. Went in for my 1 week post op visit... down 12 lbs! Definitely not what I was expecting. Still have the occasional gas pain in my stomach, but otherwise doing well. Last three days, I've gotten my 64 oz in and b/w 60-70 grams of protein. As for my NSV, I actually got my wedding ring on today... first time since May of 2010. My wife is smiling from ear to ear. I'd love to hear how other August 5thers are doing.

There is a toddler in my pants!

Bahahahhaha!!! Thats hilarious! What a great NSV. Thank you for sharing this.
  5. If you weren't in a panic, you wouldn't be normal! It's going to be fine. You have good reasons, you made a good decisions, you're prepared. Do like DonRodolfo says and make a list of the pros and cons to remind yourself. And then read some success stories. Make a list of "post-op NSV"s you're looking forward to. It's so worth it!
  6. I had a NSV this past weekend. Unfortunately, along with it came a problem. I had to go get the box out of the attic. You know the one that I filled with the clothes that were too tight. The clothes that I had from the last time I lost some weight .. and the time before that, and the time before that.... How could that possibly be a problem, you ask? The routine in the past has always been to take out the smaller clothes (hurrah!!) and fill the box with the bigger clothes. At that point, the box sits in the closet for a few weeks while I decide if it goes to charity or back in the attic. Well, having gained and lost the same 40# several times in my adult life coupled with the fact that I'm frugal (ok ok a cheap rat bastard), the nagging thought that I may need those clothes again generally leads to them going back in the attic. Then later when I've lost my resolve and gone back to cramming my pie hole with whatever isn't nailed down.... the box comes out and the the process is repeated in reverse. I keep telling myself that this time is different. That not only will I never need those clothes again, in all likelihood, I will have to buy new clothes when the "small" clothes are too big in another month. I am quickly coming up to the point where I will be smaller than I have been in 20 years, and my goal is a place that I haven't seen since middle school. Never the less, the box of big clothes is currently sitting in my closet silently mocking me. Stupid box.
  7. I'm almost 8 weeks out and have been in the gym 3-5 times per week since Week 2. I do 30 minutes on the treadmill (started at 2.0, now at 2.5; fast for me) and work up a good sweat -- not making it rain, but I use the towel often. I then follow up with 15-20 minutes of weights, upper and lower body alternating days. The weird thing is that I continue sweating a little during strength training, during my short walk home from the gym, and for a good little while after I get home. I also begin to sweat when I do everyday activities that require a little exertion, such as running up and down the stairs (NSV!) or playing with a small child. Anyone else notice this? Any possible explanations?

    Another stall!

Not as far out as you are, but from what I've been reading around here, we're all likely to hit several of these on our way to goal. The recommendation of vets is usually to stay the course, look for NSVs, and don't forget to take your measurements periodically, look at before and current photos, review your #s, etc. so you are reminded of the progress you have made regardless of what the stoopid scale says right now! There's a blog post around here somewhere that claims including avocado (particularly substituting this healthy fat for a not so healthy fat) can be helpful. When I've hit stalls during weightloss prior to surgery, I've always changed something to break it. I'd reevaluate my diet: have extra calories snuck back in or am I maybe not eating enough? Do I need to readjust my macronutrients? Too many processed foods? Eating the same items day after day? How can I eat "cleaner"? And reevaluate my activity: Too much, not enough, not enough variety? Has my fitness improved and therefore my output/effort decreased? Too much cardio and not enough weights? Getting bored and complacent? Need to find something new? There is also an article floating around multiple places here that explains what is happening during a temp stall, your body is replacing glycogen and water. Weight doesn't drop at that time, but once that replacement period is over, you can expect to lose again.

    NSV shout outs

NSV for me -- new workout clothes! I looked at myself in the gym mirror and realized that in my 3-sizes-too-big shorts and t-shirt, I just looked like Sponge Bob Squarepants. I was just square, and looked like a sad ragamuffin, like I was in someone else's clothes. So this weekend I resolved to buy new shirts/shorts. Such a revelation -- looking good at the gym! I accused Nordstrom's of installing the skinny mirrors in the activewear dressing rooms, because darn, I looked GOOD in Large capri's and dri-fit shirt. But the outfit looked just as good in my true-to-life mirrors at home. Wow! Now let's see if it looks that good at the gym tomorrow!
  10. I too am in bandster hell it's hard but I know the road ahead will get better. Great NSV!
  11. Yeah! NSV's are the best! So excited for you! Congrats!
  12. I, like many of us, am in bandster hell. And that's ok. It's part of the process and I'm happy to be a bandster. I've lost only 2 pounds in the past 3 weeks BUT...I went through my closet and was able to purge about 6 dresses, 2 pair of pants and a shirt. Felt amazing. Some things totally swallowed me! Also, I am wearing a dress today that a few weeks was a little tight and required a girdle. Today I had to adjust the straps and left that tight girdle at home!! I love listening to my body versus the scale. Maybe bandster hell isn't so bad! Press on friends. It's totally worth the fight!!! Have a blessed day!! ❤

    Kind of an NSV!

Gals, my NSV today was canceling my pedi appointment and doing my toenails myself. I'm three months out and only 36lbs down but I can already bend over and do my own toes. It was a very satisfying non scale victory (nsv).

DMA2013 DMA - remember me??? we already talked above - so i'm hijacking for a minute ok Hoder, as GypsyQueen correctly said NSV is a non-scale victory ie not needing a seat belt extender on the airplane for the 1rst time buying an article of clothing in a smaller size ok - back to our regularly scheduled program............ kathy

  18. I love this thread! I had this idea to make myself a NSV Bucketlist (a list of things from my obese life that I want to eliminate). A lot of the things you guys want to do are exactly the kind of stuff I'm thinking of including. I loved the one about painting toenails! I think eventually I may forget about the little things like that and just take them for granted. I want to come up with a bunch of those sort of things so I can look back at the list when I'm trying to lose those stubborn final pounds and feel inspired. I hope someday I'll look at my completed list and think, "Wow, I can't believe that was my life!"
  19. I went to my first yoga class today, firstly I was thrilled that I could follow along somewhat successfully. More so however it was the first time I ever felt comfortable being in an exercise class. I was able to focus on the yoga and not obsess about how fat I was and how I didn't fit in. It was an amazing class and I will be going back tomorrow

    1 mont post op NSV

Banded July 1 and a week later I went shopping with my sister and her kids. I found a DKNy dress in size 18w for 15 bucks. Post surgery I was a 22w (maybe 24) but I wouldn't buy larger than a 22. I saw that coral dress n it was a steal at 15 bucks. I bought it for my trip to Vegas in September in hopes it would fit (kept receipt in bag had 6 months to return just in case i love Macys !!! ) anyway Well I tried it on yestedat 1 month to the day I bought it and it fits ... It fits and looks nice it might be a lil big next month but ill get the sucker tailored . I'm super happy and wanted to share my 2nd first NSV... The first one was walking Into an all tone favorite bakery and had no Desire to purchase a dam thing to eat . Ordered the cake I needed for a party n left empty handed... A first !!!! I needed to share with my lap band family because my real world friends and family get happy but don't see the joy way we do:)

    NSV shout outs

only three weeks out yet NSV's are all over the place. I need to focus and note them and not take them for granted. I was sitting on a wooden chair at the dinning room table and was uncomfortable, finaly i figure it was because by BFB was so much smaller that the presure on my sitting bones was uncomfortable! go figure. I now have definition over my Quads- never seen that before. Big success was not weighing in for three days now. I find that it plays games with my mind no matter what the number is.
