    silly question

I think a big part of it is my stomach is probably a lot longer than yours. We have the same circumference stomach post-op, but if mine is longer, then I can hold more. Guys do have it easier. But i still have restriction. Just finished a bowl of BariatricPal Vegetarian Chili. Added 1/2 ounce of black bean spaghetti and 1/4 cup of fat free cheese. I ate a lot, but the last quarter cup is being put in the fridge. And I probably should have stopped 2 bites ago.
  2. I know right! But the eggs were on the smaller side and it's was after a workout and walked home 1.5 miles from the gym while eating. I had it over the course of 30ish mins, I usually eat for less because my stomach empties if overfilled. And nuts are total sliders for me but I actually needed the cals and energy, for once lol, but the kind bar was a waste of time and cals. The chicken... I honestly think I'm not built for it. But I had to finish what I have around then vegetarian here I come! I didn't even eat more than a bite of the cauliflower honestly lol I'm feeling better, thanks for asking! honestly I think it was the flu even though I'm not calling it flu season yet. It felt like flu and I was down for too long, too out of it.
  3. Makes you wish you weren't vegetarian, huh?
  4. Had this same issue two days ago. I tried pureed ground turkey with refried beans and ended up getting sick for the first time since my surgery. It was pretty awful. I am sticking with cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, yogurt, and some soups for a bit. Jello and sugar free popsicles are a nice treat too! I may need to become a vegetarian. lol I have to make myself eat - food still kinda grosses me out for the moment. I don't suffer from acid reflux, but my doctor prescribes a medicine to take for 3 months for acid for all patients. Switching from liquid to pureed food takes time, I think. I am just thankful I tried pureed foods before coming back to work today! That would have been awful!
  5. @GreenTealael Sorry to hear about the tummy troubles. But super interested to see your meal pics. Vegetarian is easy for me, but I find vegan super challenging. Going to watch the video when I get the chance, if only for the eye candy Going to Italy at the end of October. I know it seems like I have a lot of vacays, but they're just 2 close together. My last vacation was Nov 17!
  6. @GreenTealael I think you really have to follow what you know to be true for yourself and your body! ((hugs)) So sorry you're puny, and am hoping you heal quickly!! Having the #2 trains off-schedule is no stinking fun. I struggle with that too. You know, being vegan/vegetarian for years, it is entirely possible that you lack some of the enzymes for digesting meat-sources protein. I know that happens for beef, I'd think it would also be the case for other things as well? I look forward to your menus/pics!! Thanks for the link! I am gonna go listen to it asap!!! @sillykitty Gosh I used to love beer--biergartens--etc! And man it would pack on the pounds overnight! I think you've figured it out. I bet Italy will be better--maybe even with the pasta! You can drink way more beer than you can eat pasta! So that may save you! Your vaca sounds so fun! Damn I wanna come work for you and be your assistant!!! Or a minion!!! Please don't not take pics cuz of me!!! This isn't the Fluffy Show! This is our IF journey girlie!!!!! I think as long as we hit our protein needs, we'll probably be fine? LOL. It's a crap shoot right? Please take those vitamins!!! It felt good not eating dinner last night. Never thought I'd say that one. But I just really couldn't manufacture any desire to so the coffee with PP in it hit the spot. Even though Mr. F. was eating the leftovers I made for him. Love those re-imagined dinners! Hehe! I don't think I'm gonna push for 3 squares on IF days either. I will just push for protein mins. Today is an UD and I am not hungry right now. And am busy working. So I don't quite know when my first meal will be. I'm gonna try to sneak in a walk before I break my fast though. (Odd how I don't mind the plain decaff with Miralax...)
  7. Giving up meat again for a bit, same old problems, it sits too long in me (TMI sorry) Vegan/vegetarian meals coming as soon as I am well again! F- NYC!

    Forgot diet plan

Programs vary all over the map in many areas, though the common elements are: Protein - consistent with need, but generally 60-80 g for women (though shorter than average women can do fine in the 50's) and 80-100 g for men. Protein need is most closely associated with lean body mass, hence the difference between men's and women's needs. Eat protein first, then veggies, fruits and starches Eat slowly, chew well Don't drink calories (protein drinks excepted, though you won't need to do them at this point) Avoid drinking with meals and for 30 minutes after meals. Drink a minimum of 64 oz, though the need is often higher depending upon activity and weather. Those are the things that are common to most plans. Minimizing sugar intake is often sited and sometimes a number is put on it; likewise, carb numbers are occasionally specified, though those can be deceiving and best not dwelt on. Calories are sometimes specified in programs and sometimes not. Those that work best seem to cluster in the 6-800 calorie range, but that is hard to maintain in a regain recovery program. It is best to work with your individual metabolic need, which again can be quite variable; Try for 1000-1200 and see how that goes; 12-1500 is often a maintenance level for many women. Keto and vegan/vegetarian are largely irrelevant - they are more lifestyle type diets that don't have any inherent weigtloss properties, though they can be used if one keeps the calories low enough. The key factor is what kind of diet will help you stay away from the high calorie/low nutrition junk that promotes weight gain. Good luck in your endeavor....

    Stage Four Recipes. Help needed!

Try the Apple A Day cookbook. It has vegetarian recipes by Dr's wives. Also you may be interested in Loma Linda Foods. They make vegetarian fake meats. I love the Linkettes. They are vegetarian hot dogs. They come in a can. I bought 12 cans on Amazon recently. They are made with soy protein.
  10. Ok, so I support your vegan/vegetarianism. Swearsies. I support your IF and doing it how you want. We all deserve to do our plan our way--regardless of anyone's opinions--even assh*ts like me! I can't answer the questions about cultures who base their societies on plant based foods. I can't even say what will or won't "possibly" happen to any of us who don't get our protein in. Dr. Weiner and Dr. Vuong don't seem to think protein is a major issue. Please don't be stressed out by me! I was just answerin' your question about why I expressed concern for your 4 hour eating window and why I didn't apply the same filter to Silly. ((hugs)) You certainly look healthy and beautiful and I suspect if your doc or RD didn't think so, they'd run tests, and if it was protein related, they'd come up with a plan for you!!! And it would not be a plan developed or espoused by some schmoe on the internet (aka me). You know I'm a professional worrier, right? But what you and Tea say does have quite a lot of logic and food for thought in them and it challenges my belief system. That's ok. What usually happens is they force/encourage me to examine/re-examine and grow in some way--stretching myself and my paradigms. God knows I have not been tearin' up the tracks in the lbs lost department. And I have been the diligent one eating every meal, eating every damn gram of protein...and now worried that I'm eating too much. ROFLMFAO! So maybe you guys DO have the right answers! I do know the thought of eating a snack today or even dinner is kinda repulsive to me. It's 4:30 and work has run late, and I'm just now getting to my green soup! Holy crap! So I truly don't know if it's best to acknowledge that and not force another meal/more protein on me. Or if I should just break it down and have yogurt or PP in coffee. Part of me is afraid to do things like this, cuz I do not want to be that girl that lives on PP and yogurt cuz it's easy and convenient for me and takes zero fuc*s to make. You know? I used to do that with cheese (and btw, did I mention cheese and salami too?) LOL...so it's just my own personal nightmares I'm probably visiting on your guys through projecting! God I would make a sucky counselor!
  11. I hear you I do, but I'm not sold on the higher standard. I think I can phase in and out getting the recommendation and be ok. Only in perfect conditions does anyone always get the minimum, what about all the people who are culturally plant based and never ate meat sources. They still do fine. I have been vegetarian the majority of my life from childhood, before becoming hardcore vegan then flexing in and out of eating meat. Still I cannot tolerate it well. I have to fight to eat it. I cannot always struggle to eat things I don't tolerate base on a blanket recommendation made by a panel of 4 on the board of the WHO or other organizations. I have to do what's right by me personally. I fight my NUT and surgeon on this constantly. They have conceded and agreed to let me flex the amount *sometimes* and support my transition back to vegetarian at the 1 year mark
  12. Ok, so what I didn't say is that the very tiny amount that Silly can eat scares the crap out of me. And by her own admission, she hasn't even been doing as well as this right now. This represented a good day for her. I also missed that she was doing it in a 4 hour window initially. In my mind, with as little as she eats, there is no way or reason to cut IF to 4 hours. Cuz if she opened it to even an 8 hour window, she could probably get in 60-80g of protein per day. In actuality, you can eat more than her, but you try more toward vegetarian. And ditto that...scares the hell out of me. I think it's even scarier for you cuz you're doing this while using vegetarian sources of protein that do not have as much protein in it as lean meatacular stuff. So both of you are in my honest opinion playing with fire. But I'm just a lay person and don't know squat! I just thought I should not rain on her parade like I did your's cuz I felt so bad about raining on your parade and being a d**k (even though I don't have that appendage)...and also, on this thread, I'm trying not to be judgey. It's hard AF cuz we all know I'm an assh*t sometimes. I'm just trying to turn over a new leaf.
  13. True story, I have a rough idea if I meal prep, but nothing ever so fancy. I'm just planning for vegetarian vs flexible days ...

    Intermittent Fasting

Not sure if the body can assimilate that much protein in that much time but I'm not heavily protein focused especially migrating towards full vegetarianism (I'm flexible now) and eventually veganism. Plus I'm almost 10 months out I don't think I'm at risk for protein deficiency Breaking the fast: Matcha w/ 5.5 oz premier 15g protein 30-60 mins later salad with eggs or chicken 12-14 g protein 60mins later coffee or match a w/ premier 15 g protein 30-60mins later rest of salad or salmon, chicken, or turkey, tofurky rye cracker sandwich, etc or more matcha w/ premier (rare) usually around 12-15 g protein I've removed snacks, condensed timeframe ... its really not that different than just having a busy day. 20:4 is not permanent, its speed up the process, then dip back to 18:6, etc.

Why I am so hungry all the time.

I am 3+ months out of surgery. I don't enjoy food. There I said it. Take today for example, over here in the uk we traditionally have what we call a Sunday dinner which consists of a joint of meat (if you aren't vegetarian) along with vegetables and roast potatoes as well as fabulous Yorkshire Puddings with gravy. I haven't enjoyed any of my "Sunday dinners" since after my surgery. Its a combination of things I think, even though I put a tiny amount on my plate, I still get anxious that I won't be able to enjoy it and that I will fill up too quickly. This makes it a self fulfilling prophecy as it feels like my stomach gets tighter and then obviously I can only eat a few mouthfuls. I don't get hungry very often at all but I do get head hunger most days which is a pain. I want to eat something, because I am thinking I should be eating for my health, even though I am not hungry, confused much lol. In saying that, I did enjoy something yesterday but I think it was because I knew the size of it before I started eating it and I didn't get anxious about it. It was half a corn cob with a little butter on it,it was divine! Its a journey as we all know and I have been lucky in that I have lost weight most weeks so haven't really suffered much (yet!)
  16. I have been vegetarian on and off for a number of years. I am currently eating meat because I know the challenge of getting enough protein while recovering. That said, I am considering going back to being vegetarian, maybe 6 months post-op or so... Are there any other veggies here? How do you get all your protein? Do you feel like having a sleeve and being vegetarian can work well together?

    June RNY buddies?

Hi All! Can anyone share their menu of their daily meals/snacks? How many calories is everyone getting? I meet with my nutritionist next week since before surgery and want to be sure I'm ok. I average between 700-800 calories a day right now and probably burn an extra 300-400 calories a day during my jogs/light lifting. I'm averaging at about a 1 lb. loss per week so hoping I can figure out if I need to make any adjustments as I wish I was losing more only being about 8 weeks out... TODAY: Breakfast: Dannon Oikois Triple Zero Vanilla Yogurt Snack: Premier Protein Shake, Calcium Chewy Bite, Fiber Choice Chewy Tablet Lunch: 2 oz. turkey deli meat, 1 oz. string cheese, 1 oz. canned carrots Snack: Premier Protein Shake, Calcium Chewy Bite, Fiber Choice Chewy Tablet Dinner: 1/2 Cup Amy's Organic Vegetarian Chili
  18. But You are a good little Vegetarian Wolf, lentil soup is also nice, better for you than evil Cheeseburgers could be. You can look at the world with clear clean eyes, not with Burger Belch! With a good veggie meal you don't miss meat at all, challenged my friend one day, proved to me you DON T need meat in a meal. It was good, it was filling, and, although I hated to admit it, I liked it very much.
  19. Weight loss is a different animal as the years pass. Actually experiencing weight gain, weight holding on, and slow weight loss may be hard for newer people to understand. It's a great that you are posting this topic. Yes, get with your team to get the professional advice and confirm or rule out medical issues. The bariatric plan that once worked may not work for you now. it will be trial and error to find the calories and macros that get your body in weight loss mode. This will be specific to your body physiology. Weight loss at years out is not a one size fits all. It is fine tuning your diet to find where your body loses weight. To find the calories and macros that work: Use your food log. If your body is carb sensitive lower your carbs. If your not losing at a certain calorie levels. Raise/lower the calories. Spread out meals a day. Start with three adjust it to four, five six. How you fuel your body is key. Whole foods, Keto, intermittent fasting, vegetarian diets. It still gets down to your calories and macros on any diet plan.

  21. Lol. I can’t even believe that’s on the list. Blended meat. I think I’ll pass. Vegetarian wolf. Lol
  22. I think it's great that you're going on holiday! I've never been to Cuba but a number of my friends have gone and fell in love with it. Like with anyone who has dietary restriction for any reason, be it kosher eating, diabetic eating, vegan/vegetarian, celiac disease... you have to raise your voice and make sure you're accommodated. Give the tour group a call and see what they can arrange for you. The people organizing the trip as well as the lodging folks should be able to tell you what to expect as well as whether or not they can prepare special items for you. LET THEM TREAT YOU SPECIAL. You ARE special and you just did an amazing thing for yourself. Even after you get some assurances that they'll be able to feed you, pack some powdered protein for when you need to give yourself quick nutrients on your own terms. I'm very new to bypass and have never taken an inclusive trip to Cuba, but I *do* know the hospitality industry very well. Treat this like an allergy that they need to work around. Make sure they're doing their part to make your trip safe and fantastic FOR YOU. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello I'm 8 days post op, it's challenging just remember to sip sip sip, get plenty of protein to help with hunger. I have found other protein because most people get burned out drinking a lot of shakes. I found the Oikos triple 0 Greek yogurt and has 15 grams of protein vanilla flavor. Also if you're in the pureed stage you can take your meats and puree into your broth or if you guys have ever tried like the vegetarian Morningstar products or Boca. I like the breakfast sausage patties with Morningstar and some other things so just if you want something to snack on for protein their 9 or 10 grams of protein per patty you can take a look at the other products also good to puree in broth. I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners because they make me feel like crap and also they have so many bad chemicals in them I try to stick with things with stevia and it but it's challenging to find some things. I hope this information is helpful to you guys and I wish everyone well on this journey we're all on[emoji4] Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Before and After Photos

Yes ,I don't tolerate bovine products well (not lactose intolerance) so I have to pick and choose which items I will suffer for. Life long struggle. Generally yogurt, kefir and some cheeses are OK but milk and meat are a no go for me. I live near farms so ive tried farm fresh as well. Sometimes I'm OK with half and half and isolates, but I have to cycle those out with vegan sub's. One of the reasons I was a vegetarian for so long. My body is just built for it. As for the almond milk, I don't need it for the protein, I get that from food, and there aren't many carbs in it either. Attached is the label
  25. So I decided to drop a friend who literally told me I was "taking the easy way out" if I got this surgery and all the months leading up to it would say I was "pathetic" and "lazy" just threw a slew of disgusting insults my way which made me feel shitty Little back story: I'm 22 and struggled with my weight my whole life (due to PCOS and other medical things) from 13-19 years old I suffered anorexia and got down to 80 something pounds (I was literally on my death bed)so right when I graduated high school for an entire year after I was inpatient in the hospital and recovering from the anorexia when I got out I guess I just couldn't stop gaining weight? (PCOS, hereditary etc)It started triggering me a lot and I would try everything to lose weight! I'm a vegetarian I work with dogs running around all day with them constantly moving very active job so you can imagine my frustration so I decided to go this route and I'm 3 weeks out and 25 pounds down and I'm doing very well this is kinda going all over the place lol sorry to whoever reads this Anywhoooo my "friend" would just put me down constantly and they knew me during my anorexic days they knew me during the recovery days they saw how much I struggled with weight gain and loss and still had the audacity to say if I went through with this procedure I was taking the "easy way out" and they'd "never be able to look at me the same" so a couple days before my surgery I dropped them and I gotta say I don't miss them at all if anything this surgery is HARDER than doing it on your own it's a fucking surgery for fucks sake #1 and #2 there is no going back you gotta learn new ways to eat you gotta take vitamins and minerals you gotta make sure you get a certain amount of protein everyday this is by no means "easy" and it still fuckin annoys me that people have the audacity to say some dumb shit like that Sorry this went like all over the place I'm just annoyed at the moment and I had to vent about it
