    Protein Powders

I am 7 weeks out sleeve and depend on Genepro to get my protein requirement. It is available on Amazon and at GNC. I have not tried it in water, but think I will do so today. One tablespoon (a scoop) is 30 gms protein. It mixes very well in coffee with just a spoon or fork. Colder beverages require more vigorous mixing; I find that the Jaxx brand blender cups work better than other brands for me. It is not completely tasteless, but is probably the best--I don't feel like there are any protein powders that are truly completely tasteless and textureless (is that a word? lol), but maybe I'm a little hypersensitive :). Hope this is useful info and best wishes!

Can’t drink protein shakes! Post op

I use GENEPRO unflavored protein. I know some don't like it but I use it daily. I would never get it all in otherwise. I put it in my Coffee everyday. It has no taste at all. And 30grams. I had searched high and low for something I can handle. I would hate to know exactly how much $$ I have spent. I got tired of everything sweet. Good Luck

    Pre Op Run Down

Hello all you beautiful achievers. First I hope your day is going well. I am 6 days pre - op and obsessing over making the right decisions and having everything ready for when I come home. I will be having the gastric sleeve with hernia repair along with having my gallbladder removed next monday. I have yet to decide on a vitamin regimin. I wanted to use the patches but my surgeon said he does not recommend those. I have ordered Genepro plain protein to add to any item with a 30g content per serving. I have gatorade and vitamin water along with plain water that includes electrolytes. I have plenty of flavored protein drinks and I have beef and chicken broth as I understand I will need to be on liquids for 3 weeks per my doctor. Help because I am frantic thinking I have forgotten something important and also I don't know which vitamins to choose. I would love your advice. Thank You.

    No Flavor Protein Powder

The only problem with collagen protein is that it is worthless. Not in the same way that Genepro is, but because of the incomplete amino acids and the low bio-availability of collagen protein specifically. It's so common, it's what jell-o is made from.

    No Flavor Protein Powder

Before you spend any more money on Genepro, read a few threads on it: And a better post about it:

    No Flavor Protein Powder

Sara, thanks. I bought Genepro the other day and it's not too bad. I'll use up the canister and revaluate and look at unjury next
  8. etc. etc. etc.

Genepro Protein Powder- yeah or nay?

There's a thread about Genepro here already that is probably worth reading: The money quote is this: "[They] claim that 1 tablespoon of their product contains 30 grams of Protein when the tablespoon itself only holds 15 grams."
  9. Hi everyone. Have been taking forever to choose an unflavored protein powder since I feel this will give me the best chance to get my protein in. After much searching and getting a little overwhelmed, I gave in and purchased genepro on amazon. Mainly bought it bc of the amount of protein you get per scoop and a lot of comments saying it doesn’t alter the taste of food and can pretty much add it to everything. Should have posted before to ask everyone here. Has anyone heard of it or used it? Do you have anything positive or negative to say about it? I welcome all feedback! Should be arriving in the mail today so potentially have a chance to return it if needed! Lol. Thanks everyone!!
  10. Genepro is good as well!

    Gastric Bypass in Memphis

Thank you! Yes I had the gastric bypass (laparoscopic), I have 4 small incision scars and 1 small scar where the drain was. I take 2 Flinstones Complete, 4 Calcium Citrate (500mg) 3000mcgs of biotin (helps with hair loss/regrowth) and B12. I do not buy the bariatric vitamins that are sold, all of mine come from Walgreens (I would guess i spend ~20$ per month on vitamins). I do supplement my protein with Genepro unflavored medical grade protein from GNC, I go thru a tub of it about every week and half to 2 weeks, it runs about $38. However the $ i spend on not eating fast food or diet sodas more than equals out monthly. I also no longer buy a meal when my husband and I go out, I generally just get an appetizer or maybe an add on like a skewer of shrimp...so cost wise Its definitely a wash.

    Severely Constipated.

Surgery 8/18/17 & life has changed dramatically. I rarely had a constipation issue before, after...my gut went into lockdown. Major taste changes, amount, speed of eating, all changed. Get it wrong, too fast, (still can't handle beef or chicken well) & I'll be nauseous, salivating like a water faucet left on, stomach pain. If I'm lucky, I'll throw up, usually saliva, maybe a tiny bit of food. Then, I'm good. But, the worst was gut on lock. I mean, ZERO URGE......until what went in must go. Pain...? Wow..! So, here's my routine now. Most mornings, oatmeal w/Genepro, maybe unsweetened applesauce mixed in. Btw..glad someone mentioned PRUNES! I will incorporate that too. BEANS...I try to have them in some form at lunch daily. Don't overdo cheese! But, most importantly, I take the recommended dose of Yerba Prima Fiber Plus caps (5 caps) at minimum, every other day. Once a day has worked well for me. BUT, I am going to try a few of the other methods too and see how those work for me. Glad this topic was posted!

    Struggling with aversion

I have not tried those except for the premade fruit protein drink. I now use Genepro and Nectar protein powder. Sent from my SM-T818T using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. I bought New Whey in grape from GNC and I love it! I'm 6 months out so I can handle solid protein just fine but I'll drink a half bottle to reach 80g protein. I was using unflavored GenePro and eventually got to where the smell and taste was making me nauseated. What flavors have you tried and which one is your favorite?

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

I add Miralax (once a day) to my protein drink and it does not have a flavor. It helps with the constipation. Things I eat during pureed stage: guacamole tuna lentil soup egg salad chili ground turkey refried beans I make sure to get 70-80 grams of protein and more than 64oz of water. I put Genepro protein in my cocoa in the morning and I have Nectar Lemon Tea (also protein) in my water at the end of the day when I'm sick of drinking water...lol. I would look at the foods you already love and see how you can make a softer version. My doctor's office said I did not have to blend my food, I just needed to chew it really well.

Why do protein drinks taste awful?

They argue that GENEPRO doesn't have the amount of protein they advertise. They say that the Company has lawsuits against them and they lost the last case. I ask them why even BARIATRIC STORE sells it, they are a huge company and you would think they stand behind this product. I just wanted to let u know. I will always use GENEPRO. It's the best I have found for myself. So now u know if u get pounced on. Lol

Why do protein drinks taste awful?

Watch out!! There are some on here that don't believe GENEPRO has 30 grams of protein and they get a little ANGRY when someone puts out good vibes on it. Personally, I LOVE GENEPRO. It is the only protein I use now. I put it in my Espresso every day. Just a little warning.
  18. I have tryed everything and the only one that is tolerable was recommended by my dietitian. It is called GenePro protien powder. I ordered it threw amazon. It has no flavor. If antyhing it will just thicken your liquid some. But i can mix 1 scoop with 1 oz of liquid. Drink that in one shot and have 30 grams of protien. I found the best thing to mix it is a sugar free Kool-aid or G2. Water works to but it gives it a thicker feel going down. Also it works out to be about $1 a serving which is a good deal for 30 grams of protien. Google amazon Gene Pro Protien. It will change your world.

    Need typical day menu

First thing ==I use GENEPRO in my Espresso every morning. It has 30grams of protein. But some on this site will say it isn't what they claim. I am terrible at eating breakfast or lunch. Dinner I have ham, cheese sandwich will 1 piece of whole grain bread. Or Chili Beans with cheese and onions. I also will have a Burrito or a XLNT Tamale, Or I have a chicken breast baked. By the time I get my protein first I don't have much room for veggies or fruit. I do have a Tuna Salad too. I was told by my Nutritionist and my Dr both said this to me: In time there are no forbidden foods, just eat in moderation. Not all programs say this. I am the type of person that if I didn't have a food I will become obsessed with it. I don't always make all great decisions but I try. Also, I totally feel like my exercise is my saving grace. I also have nuts or peanut butter crackers for a snack in the afternoon. I am not a very good example I'm sorry. I still have no appetite at all. Food does not control me now!! Thank goodness I still can't eat much beef or eggs. I pretty much eat whatever I want just smaller amounts. If you would like to do emails instead of on this site please let me know and I will give you my email address. BTW I drink 2 or 3 cups of black coffee, and I drink Lipton Green Tea (bottled) Snapple Diet Peach Tea also. Also, I failed to mention, sometimes I just have a piece of cheese with 5 crackers for dinner. If I'm not hunger I just do a little Protien.

    Limited menu, help

Can you have strained soups? Split pea soup with a scoop of genepro protein powder has been great for me as well as the ricotta cheese bake recipe that everyone talks about. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

    Late December Sleevers?

Had surgery on Dec 27th. Every day does get easier. My main issue now is one incision that still hurts when getting up and down or turning. I have found that the flavorless protein like genepro is so much easier then trying to get the protein shakes down. Can mix with anything from water, to soup, to yogurt. I am lucky no nausea or vomiting. Gas pain was horrible but it is better now. I am experiencing very low energy levels I guess body just adjusting to new diet and healing. Ready to be healed and start losing weight.

    BariatricPal Products

I have tried some of their products. The chicken noodle soup is great. Their Salted Pretzel protein bars are good also. I bought a lot of their food right after I had my RNY butt what I found was they like most everyone has rice and pasta in them, at first I couldn't and wouldn't eat Pasta, Rice or bread. These are things that I worked up too. I am over 4 years out and I just started using these products. As for Protein Powder, I love GENEPRO unflavored. I add it to my Espresso every day. One of their new releases is TIMOTHY"S ACID FREE COFFEE", it is nice flavorful coffee. Kind of expensive but ok. I have also bought Vitamins thru them I buy CELEBRATE. You can also go on the internet and search for items. The premade protein I like is ATKINS, the POWERCRUNCH protein bars are good also. Good Luck on your Journey and have a great day.
  24. Hey all - less than a month out from surgery and looking to prep. Reviewing the NUT info, they recommend mixing unflavored protein powder in things like applesauce or yogurt during the pureed stage. Tells me to look for powders with at least 15g protein and less than 3 g sugar. Had been looking at syntrax, but that's only 10g protein. Any recommendations? I've heard of genepro and isopure. Haven't found a local GNC yet (moved a year ago and haven't needed one til now) but have been browsing amazon. Thanks!
