Better tasting chewable vitamin recommendations???
LL44 replied to LL44's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
thanks everyone... this has def been a learning curve... today was the first day with minimal pain and I finally had a BM ( sorry if that's TMI) -
So just want to see if anyone had a problem with this but I LOVE pickles! They were my favorite snack before surgery and my NUT said I can’t have a actual pickle yet but a dill pickle snow cone is fine. Problem is it gave me some serious bathroom issues like Went down fine but 20 minutes later I was having “never trust a fart” issues. What the actual heck caused that because I seriously didn’t think that would be a issue and neither did my NUT. 🤦🏻♀️ I’m almost 4 weeks post op and on my second stage of soft foods (fish, deli meat, stuff like that). Sorry for the TMI but I’m seriously confused on what the deal was.

So far calories and such look ok but its hard be sure its not food related unless you post examples (not all calories are create equal)How are you doing on Vitamins? TMI ALERT How are your bowel movements? Are they super regular? If not this can slow down weight loss , which is why your team may add Fiber supplements and laxatives... Check in with your team soon and express your concerns. But let me tell you. I thought I was losing slowly (which I am) and was a little bothered by it a while ago until more recently when I noticed the sag in my skin and just then i became grateful about the pace and that it's not worse, which it would have been if I lost any faster. If you can think of any other info to add please do, we can help you figure out what questions to ask your team. Other than weight loss, how are you feeling? VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167

Question about gas, abdominal pain and diarrhea
CyclicalLoser posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Forgive me for this post, this might fall under the "TMI" context. Basically, I'm trying to figure out what is happening and if it's normal. Essentially, 2 weeks post-op, I'm having a lot of abdominal gas, gurgling, some pain until I pass the gas...Normally not too bad, but extremely painful today. My stool has also (a few times) been nothing but a foul-smelling gelatin like slime with some bright red splotches in them (Imagine the red thing stuck in green olives). Background: 2 weeks post op drinking 1 ounce every 7.5 minutes, which is twice the rate my doctor said, but when questioned about it, was told it would be fine. I have a tendency to forget even with my annoying phone app, so I really need to drink this often. per day: drinking 2 premier protein drinks (11oz) and about 20 ounces of liquid (Vitamin water zero or 5 calorie minute maid lemonade) plus some frozen sugar free pop sickles and sugar free Jello. Some days I drink maybe 8 ounces of chicken broth. Doc prescribed milk of magnesia for constipation No lactose intolerance/IBS/chron's/UC before surgery Normal bowel movements after surgery, then this started about 3 days ago I stopped using the milk of magnesia about 5 days ago because it tasted so bad, I had no BM's for 2 days, so I resumed and the first morning afterward had a completely normal BM, then the "slime/mucous" problem started. Ever since the surgery I've had strange abdominal sounds, gurgles, could feel stuff moving around, pockets of gas, etc...I figured this was normal because my lap band did the same thing. My theory is that the red stuff in the slime might be food coloring from the sugar free stuff, and possibly the laxative effects of the sugar free things. My 2 week post op is this Wednesday and I show no other problems (normal temp, etc) so I was going to wait until then to discuss...Except for today when I had extremely painful abdominal gas. It took about an hour to pass, and then I felt fine. So what am I doing wrong? I know I'm on the low side for protein and liquids, but I would expect that to make me more constipated? I've drank the protein drinks for years and they never bothered me before, but I do feel more crampy/bloaty when/after drinking it. Thanks for any thoughts and my apologies if this is a bit 'too much info' -
I am five days out and felt so much like you do... up until day four when I got my hydration up and got off the painkillers. It will get better soon. I’m sure I will still have bumps in my road (like I think I caught a cold in the hospital! Grrr). But- I have gotten so much better- I just focused on trying to get the fluid goal in and sipped, sipped, sipped ice water. Also- TMI question, but have you had a BM yet? That helps a lot of people feel a bit better....

Confessional - Lets post our cheats/confessions/etc so others can see that we are all human
Frustr8 replied to Matt Z's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a confession to make and it is not of dietary variety. I am posting on the hopes of making someone in BariatricLand feel less alone. If it is TMI I apologize but here it goes. Among my problems that my future RnY surgery will either abolish or lessen is lymphedema in my lower legs, not a fun condition to have. I am supposed to be taking Lasix which is a strong enough strength I have to supplement with K Clor so that I don't deplete my body's Potassium, levels . Do I like doing it? Not especially. I am currently drinking 84-120 oz of varied fluids daily, one because,i'm in training for surgery and two because I have 3 healthy functioning kidneys so can clear that much.. Plus I don't get so hungry when I'm full of water. So why would I want a medication that only makes me void more? So I confess I haven't been super compliant. Well I did see my surgeon Dr Needleman on Tuesday, anybody who follows me knows that, well in the chit chat he asked if I had any circulatory problems, I am a truthful little elk even if it makes me look dumb, so I told him about the lymphedema and faulty drainage from my legs." Hmmn" he says" one leg more than the other?" Left one I said , pulled off my shoe and sock, then he says " You are taking your Lasix faithfully, aren't you?" Oops I'm caught in the cross-hairs now, I m8ght have temporarily fooled PCP but I'm not going to fool THIS dude. So I said yes and I have been good every since To save on b b 73rd linen and the carpeting I have put myself in adult pull-ups at night. See I am also To be complient with my c pap until my surgery, I sleep more soundly and nature calls and I make my way to the pretty porcelain plumbing I can make it there with less embarrassment. Doesn't it figure, my bedroom is at the front of the house, that other room at the rear so I have to go through living room, dining room and kitchen to get there. And if I should have to dribble in the kitchen that's a fall risk. So pride has had to take a backseat for awhile. I figure as I get thinner i.Will move faster and get there in time again. So folks if you're walking with me in this,it will be better soon and it's okay anyway. Your friend Frustr8 .aka. Princess Tinkle-pants👖 -
I ended up with impacted bowel 4 weeks after surgery and was in pain and miserable for a week; I would tell you how my doctor had me fix the situation but it’s gross and TMI. I now religiously take 1/2 cap of miralax with 4 oz of Trop50 every morning. If I miss a dose or don’t go at least every other day, I know it’s going to be problematic.

I have been stalled for awhile now
GreenTealael replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can you feasibly go back to basics? Protein then vegetables then complex carbs sparingly, min of 80 g Protein since you are a lifting male, 90 oz fluids (doesnt have to be just Water )Cut out ALL OTHER FOODS that might slow down progress You may need more cals, but the right kind, boost your calories and protein with Protein Shakes Sorry TMI but how are your bowel movements, if not super regular, weight loss will stall I know for a fact Get ahold of your team or NUT and make a plan, very important to let them know you have concerns, bug them and don't feel bad about it at all, you pay good money for their medical attention. Also I was stalled for a month during the second month, it happens VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167 -
Guys I’ve done relatively good I was sleeved 4/2017 I was 398 today 7/2018 I’m 220. My problem at one time was bowel movements with a little TMI i had hemroids and fissures. Finally got over that with heavy dosage miralax and stool softeners with stimulants. I am now using miralax since it is an osmotic and not stimulant in morning and at in afternoon. I’m not sure what long term effects will be. Since I only eat a protein shake in the morning and a small lunch and small dinner usually 1 cup per meal it’s hard to get fiber in. I also feel that lose stuffed and heavy if I don’t take the miralax.

June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!
Lala70 replied to gully90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey guys! I’m also on a weight loss stale, which I’m partially okay with. I’ve lost 17 lbs, since June 28th. I’m starting my purée diet tomorrow which is a relief. I’m tired of jello, popsicles, and broth. I’m struggling because sorry if it’s TMI but I’m on my period for the second time this month! And goodness, this flow is heavy!!! I even got a yeast infection after taking antibiotics! Something I’ve never experienced. I’m also constipated. It’s a lot to go through for a person in one month. Like I said, sorry for TMI but just checking in and hoping I’m not the only one going through this. -
Increased Hunger Normal?!
GreenTealael replied to MOcatmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I read yes, however some foods create cravings, carbs trigger carb cravings which is not really true hunger but mimics it strongly. You could probably test it out by eating ONLY protein and leafy greens when you are hungry (no carbs additions at all not even sauces) to see if you are satisfied. Or if you are reaching for a different type of food. Also how much fat is allowed in your diet? Fat controls hunger . I'm 8 months out and I'm hungrier during my cycle (TMI) VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 169 -
How much did you loose on your 2 week pre op diet?
2018Pammy replied to Luzbella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my preop diet on Monday, July 9th. My surgery is Monday, July 23rd. My diet consists of a protein shake for breakfast no more than 160 calories and the same for lunch. Then i have a lean cuisine for dinner. I'll tell you what...a frozen meal never tasted so good. I think i even licked the container! I am down 8 lbs so far. During my rough times I have had a side salad with very little dressing or some string cheese. The most difficult part for me is that i have been really constipated (sorry if that is TMI) My doctor told me to start on a stool softener and that has helped. Good luck on your preop diet. Stay busy if you get hungry and it helps to take your mind off of it. -
Soooo hungry today thanks to my experimental overdose on stevia to promote malabsorption/laxative effect. Worked like crazy and everything I ate for like the prior 24 hours came out, probably everything from yesterday as well.
Won't be doing that again.
Just small amounts for regularity. TMI much...
Anyway when I logged everything here's what I had:
B: Coffee with protein shake & Blended protein shake with half banana and one strawberry
L: Salmon salad (pâté style) with one crisp cracker
S: Boiled egg & nuts
S: chilly cow froyo bar
D: salmon salad (again), protein chips & a half cup of watermelon
Plus water, tea, coffee
Next time I'll skip the extra shake don't even need the extra protein...
-
Tested it out again and it think it is more malabsorption than laxative effect (TMI- texture, smell, etc.)

Anyone else on week one? I had my surgery last Tuesday and so tired of broth and jello. I’m so ready to move to the protein shakes, thicker soups, etc. I’m not hungry, but I do get a feeling like I should eat at regular meal times. I get thirsty as well in between. TMI but I have to run to the bathroom every time I have my broth. I’m an instant processor. I’m a little worried about going back to work on Monday and having that problem at lunch.

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
sdcheesehead replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, 9 days post op and just started pureed foods. I was given a list of things that are allowed and serving size. I stayed to that list, even made a ricotta bake ( recipe was attached). And I listen to my tummy, stopping when I was full (not even a fourth of a serving), so basically suffered all last night from gas!!! It was terrible. Thought I had pulled something in my tummy. This morning, when I finally passed gas (sorry tmi) felt much better. Thought I'd see if this is normal. Now I'm going to pay more attention to how I eat to help prevent the bubbles getting in there. -
Bowel Movements - TMI !
Orchids&Dragons replied to AngelaZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And @AngelaZ, you are nowhere near the edge of TMI-land around here! -
Apologies in advance for this topic. I am 2.5 months post-op. For the past month I have been having irregular bowel movements. And recently the last three bowel movements were very painful, a little bloody and large (ugh sorry!). I have called the doc’s office, but would like to hear from those of you who have dealt with this. I have Colace and powder Miralax at home. Which would you take? Which is safer? Thank you! I am dreading the next bm. This morning’s felt like giving birth to a porcupine ! Lol

I was never warned about losing too much weight, I was told not to gain anymore weight... As it stands, I am 39 pounds from any chance of getting my surgery cancelled. I want to lose as much as I can to lower my set point, iwth the goal of getting me closer to my goal weight, which ultimately 185 to 195. Truth be told, I would rather lose the weight on my own, and never need surgery. But too many past diet failures have led me to where I am at now, the six month march to surgery, and a new healthier me. Alabama definitely does not have a shortage of doctors, I'm sure there is a physician just waiting for us to call. Until this current doctor, I had ran through a couple, including a woman doctor. Nothing against woman, she just had a problem giving me the "yearly male check-up" if you catch my drift... thank goodness to, as she had some serious finger nails. Ok TMI, sorry, but these things are important. I need to find a new doctor with who has nothing but my good health in mind. First thing firs, I need to get through the next 3 visits (including today), then I can put this doctors office behind me... without burning any bridges, just in case.
