    lost

Okay this is my story I have been banned close to a year. I'm still at my same weigh maybe 2 pounds less. I have a doctor that will not give you a fill if you lost 4 pounds between visits . I have go back after my surgery 6 week so of course I lost more than 6 pounds so no fill for me that day. 6 weeks nothing in my band. Then the next month I had a stomach bug that I just got over about two week before I went in. He said no fill. so by this point how was so discourage I miss a 2 months thinking that I will always be fat. So I went back because I was so not going to go through the surgery which was a painful surgery for me without getting fill so I'm at my same with in Dec. I got 1cc he will only give one cc at a time. Then I got one cc in Jan. And one cc in Fed. Still st the same weight. I'm so sad depress and my blood pressure is out of control. I been looking for other doctors in alabama and I think I found one. I feel so bad about what's happen with me. Do you all think I'm doing the right thing?

    Drain out

So happy I got my drain out today! *happy dance* It kept me from sleeping at night. I was only getting 2 hours a night bc I was afraid of pulling it out. Sent from my VS986 using the BariatricPal App
  3. So, my wlj started in October of last year. I applied for a gastric plication study and was denied due to a discovery of a few SMALL gallstones. I had researched extensively and was so bummed (or depressed) when they told me i had been disqualified. My insurance doesn't cover any form of wls, and there was no way (I thought) I could ever afford any weight loss surgery on my own. I have tried EVERY single diet ever, I swear... the latest being the hcg diet. It worked, but I gained most of my weight back once I stopped taking the injections. One night, it hit me to research the gastric plication in Mexico. Low and behold, I found that it was actually in my reach (financially!) After researching the Drs, hospitals and procedures, I decided to go with alighterme.com and booked my gastric sleeve with Dr Lopez. I am scheduled for surgery on July 12th! I found that the gastric plication was a great surgery, but, I found that the sleeve was just a better fir for me. I am very excited and CANNOT wait to start my new journey! I am not worried about the flight, having surgery in MExico (bc I have read nothing but good reviews), how I will feel afterwards, OR being completely alone for FIVE days, I am most concerned about leaving my 2 little girls at home! (ages 4 and 1) I am so excited I found this board, and cant wait to talk more with you guys!!!

Are you 5'8"-5'9" and post- surgery?

It can be difficult to maintain especially if your not consistant and continue to follow this lifestyle change. I remember I was around 185 before my cruise next thing u kno 1 week later im back in the 90's! no way!!!! LOLThats too close to 200...I want to go as low as possible without looking sick. I do believe 160 will look good on me, so I can have a gap to play with (between 160-170 for weight gain) You always want to leave enough room to play around for weight gain bc nobody truly stays the SAME weight forever...If you want to stay away from the 200's, I would say 160 would be extremly safe. For a person whose 5'8, 160 is a good weight

    Low Blood Sugar

Even if you have never had bs issues before WLS, it is common with RNY to have reactive hypoglycemia. I have read many posts on this subject. I know that some RNYers that suffer with it carry the sugar tablets with them. You really need to follow Drs orders with this because it can be quite dangerous if you get to the point that you are fainting. Would not want that to happen while driving, etc. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I have will come along and add more information here. Good luck to you!
  6. HI, I am new on this board, I normally write on the obesity help board, I have been denied by my insurance bc/bs il and am trying to appeal, I want to ask my HR dept to write a letter since my insurance is thru my work, I just need ideas for what to write, I heard that alexandra on this board fought her insurance and won, any suggestions would be great. Thanks Nicki
  7. I had my surgery on Wednesday April 2nd, so I'm 2 days post op. I had a hiatal hernia that had to be repaired also. The first day I had acid sitting in my throat that wouldn't go down bc of swelling, now I'm battling the pain and soreness. I didn't have very much trouble making my laps walking around the hospital. Everyone kept saying walking is so important and it will make me feel so much better. I had to stay an extra night in the hospital bc of swelling, when I did the leak test it moved extremely slow so that's how they could tell it was swollen. I got to come home today and I never thought I'd say this but I miss the shit out of those IV meds they were pumping in me. I'm having so much trouble walking today, with EVERY step I take it feels like my stomach muscles and incisions are ripping open. Is it normal to have a hard time walking 2/3 days post op? Did anyone else experience the ripping pain every time they moved or walked? Everyone told me walking would make me feel so much better and that couldn't be more untrue today. How long did it take for the pain to go away? I know I will be sore and in pain for several weeks but I mean the pain where you can barely move or walk..

    Goal weight

My doctor asked me what I wanted to get down to. I said 200. He said sounds good. That will still put me at overweight according to BMI standards but honestly that stuff is such bs. I'm 5'10 by the way

But anyways anyone have any experience with this seasonale stuff? i was kinda bumed to find out my insurance copays made me pay $90 because it was 3 months worth instead of my normal $30 copay =( but other than that it kinda makes me excited to know that with the surgery my chances of concieving are better!! YEY! (we tried 3 years.. one year on clomid) sooo hopefully ill be able to pop a few lil ones out in a couple years!! =P

    On my way!

Woo hoo, My surgeon's office has submitted everything to BC/BS, and now I have about a week of waiting to find out if I am approved . I know the office does not see me having any problems with approval, but it is still nerve racking.:paranoid On a fun note, I went out this week and got some comfy jammie-type pants and tanks for post-op. My brother works at Old Navy which now carries what I affectionately call "Fat girl sizes" and I got a 25% discount off some stuff. I am so hoping all goes well with insurance and I will have my band by the end of September! I am going to start a partial liquid diet next week to get myself ready for 4 weeks of liquids only. :phanvan

    New to site

Hey Lisa! I'm in NC and have BC/BS and, as you can see, I was banded in Mexico by Dr Kuri. I went to BC/BS online and registered, put in my plan nuber and read the weight loss surgery coverage, which specifically excluded the Lap Band. I didn't even try to fight it. I just researched and went to Dr Kuri and paid cash. So, where in NC are you? I'm just outside of Charlotte. I see Dr Gonzales in Winston-Salem for fills, or at least I will in July. I haven't even met him yet! But I called before I scheduled in MX to be sure I could be seen by him and yes, he would follow up with me and do my fills. Welcome to LBT! I'm glad you found us, it's a great site and I couldn't possibly do this banded thing without it!

  15. Today is my peer to peer review, I couldn't sleep last night bc I'm so anxiously awaiting the outcome. I was supposedly denied because I don't have a comorbidity. I have a fatty liver, high cholesterol, and pre diabetic. My BMI is 42. Please pray that I get my big fat approval and I can get on with my new life of living instead of just existing! Thank you all in advance! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    First Bump in the Road

A few things... 1--you can get insurance for anything...but the more a policy covers, the more it costs. People have BC/BS policies that pay and other people have policies that don't. You need to get a copy of YOUR policy and see what YOUR policy covers. It can be very different from the BC/BS policy the person next door has. And you'll seldom get the same answer twice from the people who work there. (Some just read better than others.) 2--a lot of what gets covered and what doesn't is in how you phrase it. My insurance is NOT in the mood to pay for a breast lift. But if WILL pay for a breast reduction and, if what is left of my breasts turns out to be lifted....well, oh my. If you ask for wls, you probably won't get it. If you ask for weight loss surgery because you're overweight, you probably won't get it. BUT, if you ask for weight loss surgery as treatment for morbid obesity, then you're at least in the ballpark. 3--your BMI is close. Most insurers want a BMI of 40. So if you are 5'9" and 265, your BMI is 39.1 and you are NOT MO. But if you are 5'8" and 265, your BMI is 40.3 and you ARE MO. So wear your heaviest jeans and several layers of clothes and, if they measure your height, have them do it while your shoes are off. Also, some insurers accept a BMI of 35 WITH comorbidities. Do you have any health problems related to your weight. (Do you snore? Have you had a sleep study?) Then, I'm going to kind of give you a hard time here: You need to read more. My answers might be right or they might be way out in left field. When you pop into an internet bulletin board and ask a question, your answers could be coming from two drunks and an inmate with nothing better to do. Get information from several sources, and don't trust any ONE source to be 100% accurate all of the time. Good luck, Sue

    Are you Invisible?

This morning I got out of bed, washed my face, got dressed, fed the cat and left for work. It wasn't until I'd gone down three flights of stairs, got to my car, started the ignition, and started to back out of my parking spot that I realized I was wearing a raspberry colored shirt with a red and black skirt. Not an attractive combination of colors. It made me realize that I never really see myself anymore. I can look in a mirror and see if my hair is standing on end or if I've got toothpaste on my face. I can see the individual parts, but I can't see *ME.* Where did I go? I'm used to being invisible to the general public. It's so strange that the bigger you get, the less people actually see you. Now it seems that I am turning invisible to myself! It's scary. But sometimes I wonder if losing weight and becoming visible again isn't even scarier... Are you invisible too?

    holy crap!

I frequent a board and a lady on there WON $20,000 today on a race to a waist compition her in the Salt Lake Valley. She lost 90 pounds in 3 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!! here is what she said copy pasted Well thank you every one. I wish I could say that I ate right and worked out but it is only half true. I worked out every day but Sunday. The other thing I did do a colon cleanse (which I realize has been debated on this board) and juiced vegies. After I did the colonic I ate for Thanksgiving and gained 12 lbs. I realized then that I had rung the proverbial bell and couldn't unring it and went back to juicing. (I hope I didn't loose any one with that one...I just meant I couldn't go back to eating until after the race). As for the winnings there will be a need for surgery but that will be a year from now. I need to finish loosing (180 is my goal) and my body needs to see what is going to bounce back. I have a feeling my b**bs never will and my stomach will need a little help as well. wow! Just WOW! jen

    just had two chumknuckles

You would probably be mad at me if one showed up on your doorstep fed ex overnight. Might not even be stale by the time you get it!!
  20. I am going for my first fill on March 1st. i keep reading about some people whos drs dont give them a fill if they are loosing weight. is that true? I am loosing weight (without a fill) but dont be fooled- its a HUGE struggle. i basically am just doing what i normally would do if i didnt have the band and i was on a diet. i am hungy and i want to eat i just dont bc i figure whats the point if i just went thru this surgery in order to get heathy. BUT now im worried now that my dr isnt gonna fill me when i go in... is it silly to think that? or could that be an issue? any and all thoughts on the situation would be appreciated especially if u have been thru something like this...
  21. I am sorry if that came across as depressing or I don't own it. Trust me I do and I would do it again a thousand times over, but there are downsides to it. Maybe small ones but there are. I don't know if because of my weight I was depressed for so long and the transition was difficult and maybe no one else feels this way, but to say its been easy about everything?? No it hasn't. It's a very difficult transition your whole life changes, and no one really talks about it. Its just like explaining to someone who doesn't have kids how their life will change. You can't. Its just one of those things that they have to live it, so if for all of you guys it has been amazing and easy breezy, congratulations, but for me it hasn't. There is a downside to it, And yes maybe I was stupid but I really thought after all this work I would look good in a 2 piece and that is not the case. I F*88 care like you nicely put. I want a nice body because I worked hard for it. Oh and don't worry I wont sabotage anything, I would do it all again in a heartbeat and like I said the pros outweighs the cons by thousands but to say there is no change and its a bit difficult to deal with is just not true and that is what everyone and what I read about before I had this surgery said. ETA: and I agree its irritating how much better people will treat you now that you are skinny. Guys will open doors and strike up conversations. Its all very shallow bc I can bet my life on it, at 240 lbs they wouldn't even think twice about opening a door for me.

    Advertising on LBT

Absolutely! I detest people who claim they want to "help" fat people, when all they really want are more $$$. Everyone and his brother seems to be trying to ride the wave of WLS. I am seeing blatant ads for books, CD's/tapes, doctors, surgical centers, etc. disguised as simple "postings". BS!!! How stupid do these people think we are? When you see the same "post" on dozens of forums, under 3 or 4 different names, you know there is something rotten in Denmark, right? The people who gave us LBT (and I stress "GAVE" - as in "free") and the many other forums out there are the ones who really deserve our gratitude and support. So I say, to paraphrase the great Dixie Chicks, let's have a big "Hell Yeah!" for the LBT owners and moderators!!!

    Pre-op diet

When I spoke to the nurse to go over what to do this week she said to stop taking my multivitamin bc the vitamin e thins your blood.
  24. KellarsMom

    Food progression?

I only did a day of liquids after a fill if that. It seems much harder with the sleeve and I'm thinking its bc its so long. I did 2 weeks of preop then 1 week of solid liquids. I am now on creamy soups and Friday can add in tuna and eggs. Tuna sounds like a feast to me at this point
  25. I've been a type 2 for 20 years. Before surgery was taking glucovance and viktoza. Diabetes was getting out of control before surgery, but I do think that had to do with my band (stomach had prolapsed and was adhered to my liver). BS was higher during hospital stay, and they were giving me insulin. Since being home I'm only on viktoza and my morning numbers are running about 137, previously 180's. I have hit 200 a couple of times, but not consistently. 3 months labs will be next week. Sooo it appears my BS is better but not gone. And, i probably would have had the same results with bypass. Unfortunately that may be what it is since I have had diabetes for so long.
