I had my surgery almost a month ago

@@cokegal I know. I felt down when I step on the scale and says the same numbers: 238.8 I was jogging yesterday, I've being doing cardio everyday and nothing. So I'm about to do my research about what Ruth1ess says "The Three Week Stall" Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my surgery almost a month ago

You're experiencing the infamous Three Week Stall (do a search in this forum for more info). It usually starts the third or fourth week after surgery. It's normal, and nothing to be worried about, although it's hard not to think about it. Your body is trying to adjust and heal. It can last 2-3 weeks, or did for me, but you'll soon break out and be on your way again try not to stress. Your body will experience many of these little down periods where it needs to rest from loss and readjust. The scale may not show loss, but you will almost always see the inches fall away. I suggest taking measurements as a secondary way to track progress. Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App

As much as I hate to say this I went slightly off track a couple of days ago when I got sick and I had chicken noodle soup. I don't know if was just a coincidence or if the carb cycling broke my stall but I have dropped like a rock since.

Thank you Treadmillwalker, and Happy New Year to you folks too!

HFFM, they say chicken soup has healing qualities for all sorts of things. Maybe it works for stalls too. ;-)

    Not losing

almost everyone experiences their first stall within the first month or so after surgery. It's so common it has a name (at least on the internet forums) - the "three-week stall". It often happens during the third week out (hence the name), but not always. I had mine weeks 2 & 3. For some people, it's at a month out or even six weeks. But that's what's going on. About all you can do is just stick to your plan and it *will* break. When mine finally broke during week 4, I dropped like 6 or 8 lbs within a couple of days. Just hang on!!!

    Stall [emoji15]

I was also sleeved December 5th and I have been stalled the last few days. I read about the three week stall a lot on here and how long it lasts seems to vary from person to person. It seems perfectly normal though. My advice is to just stick to your plan and in the mean time keep track of your measurements because a lot of times even if you are not losing pounds you are still losing inches.

    Stuck in a rut

I am having the same problem. Surgery 11/7, SW 240 and I've been hovering at 215 for about two weeks. I think this is the "three week stall that has been written about a lot. There is even a sub-forum called "Don't sweat the stall stuff". Take a look at the threads there, it will help. Basically stick with your program--we're too early on to have had drinks, bread, or sugar. You're body will "adjust" to your very fast weight loss and begin losing again when it's ready.

    Stall [emoji15]

I was the seventh and just about to post this exact same thing - I had lost 14 pounds at two weeks post op ( I started at 223 so the slower loss is expected ) and haven't lost a single pound from week two to week three. I've heard of the three week stall but I too was so used to watching the scale go down - I'm still on purée and was on liquids for two weeks- all I've had so far in the purée stage is cream of chicken and mashed potatoes one time and an egg one time ( I couldn't even finish half the egg) so I haven't "cheated" per say - this sure is annoying to say the least- I was hopeful to see a one on the scale for the new year and at this rate I'll be lucky to even loose a pound :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@@Dknal2 that's an amazing weight loss! My dr has me come weekly for the first six weeks post op and he said my weight loss was pretty rapid and he wanted to see it slow down because I'm loosing ppm and ffm a little to rapid:/ you are kicking butt tho! I was hopeful to see a one on the scale for the new year but I'm sitting steady at 207 and I've been warned of the three week stall- so I guess I'll get there eventually when I get there lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight gain...getting depressed :(

The first few weeks can be challenging for many - physically and psychologically. Your stomach and your mind have to acclimate to profound changes. It's also common for your weight to fluctuate more then. I didn't even weigh myself for the first couple of weeks because I anticipated having gained weight from the anesthesia pumped into me for the surgery, and then a roller coaster of gain and loss as my body healed. I anticipated the infamous "three week stall" so many others experienced. I hadn't wanted to be discouraged, so I had my husband put the scale on a shelf that requires dragging out the step ladder to reach until things were more stabilized. I wouldn't really quantify the three pounds you gained as actual weight gain, considering that it came on the heels of a 17 pound rapid weight loss. Anytime you lose weight too fast it's common to gain some of it back. It's why the trendy juice cleanses and detox quackery usually cause people to drop weight fast, and then gain a portion of it back even faster. To me the positive to focus on is that you lost 17 pounds, but only gained back three of it. Meaning you've already lost 14 pounds since surgery just a few weeks ago. If you had a child who was recovering from a surgery and prescribed a diet specifically designed to help her heal, would you permit her to defy it and eat things that could jeopardize that process? I doubt you would. Love yourself as much as you'd love someone whose care is your responsibility. It's not a diet like ones you've probably followed in the past that is to help you to lose weight, though that's a side benefit. It's a medical diet, not unlike other ones people follow prior to or after a surgery or medical / dental procedure. As an example, one of my colleagues just had her teeth whitened and has to only eat white or clear foods for a couple of days to avoid discoloration, and another has been open about having to only eat certain foods in preparation for a colonoscopy. You might not have gotten sick yet, but you're chancing it by eating things your stomach isn't ready for yet. I didn't eat solids until the one-month mark, and got sick that day, so I then reverted to liquids and soft foods for another two weeks until I felt more steady. Have you ever checked out the blog "The World According to Eggface"? It has some recipes for each of the phases following WLS. Pinterest also has a lot of ideas. I enjoyed getting a little freshly ground peanut or almond butter from Whole Foods and adding that to chocolate protein (unjury was my favorite brand) and Fair Life (higher protein) milk and ice in my Nutribullet and having a dessert-like shake. I also still make a lot of smoothies using high protein yogurt like Fage, and lower carb fruit and some frozen kale (berries will mask the taste of it, and it being frozen helps with the texture) rather than having Protein powder. Tasty Soups, like the red pepper one by Trader Joe's, also helped me to have some variety. My nutritionist had suggested egg puddings for the soft food phase, and I found a low-carb, low-sugar but tasty recipe that uses SF Torani syrup. Persevere through this challenge. It's worthwhile.
  11. I have only weighed myself once since my surgery because of the swelling and three week stall so many people talk about. I'm going to weigh myself on my one month surgerversary. I made myself a picture board where I'm going to post my picture each month so I can see the change.

Week 3 stall & no eating much

almost everyone experiences the dreaded "three week stall" (it's not ALWAYS the third week, but sometime within the first month or so after surgery). Don't increase your calories - just stick to your food plan. It *will* break.

    Week 3 approaching 4 stall?

almost everyone has their first stall within the first month after surgery. In fact, we call it "the three week stall", because it often (but not always) happens during week 3. If you search for it, you'll find tons of posts about it. Just stick to your program and it will break. i stalled weeks 2 and 3 and it finally broke during week 4. Then I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days.

    Stalls immediately after surgery

Stalls can happen any time. You should count yourself lucky you actually lost any weight instead of gaining the first week after surgery - many folks experience weight gain from the fluids and meds they use during surgery and may not see an actual loss until 2-3 weeks out. And there is the often discussed three week stall - which can happen at week 2 or week 4 or 5... Your body will not work exactly the same as someone else's body. But just know that you will start losing again unless you go nuts and start eating bad for you foods or not following your overall diet/exercise plan. Your job is to keep track of your food/liquid intake and make sure you're getting your Protein, Water and other nutrients and slowly adding in exercise over the next year. You need to throw out your old way of eating and the foods you used to eat and relearn healthy eating habits and foods and what is a good mix of Proteins, fats and carbs. If you do all of this, your body will do what it needs to do to lose that weight. So deep breath, keep doing all the right things, and trust your body to do it's thing.

    Just need some encouragement

It will pick back up. Your body is doing all sorts of internal healing and adjustments in the beginning. And with you breastfeeding, I would imagine that just adds to the adjustments. Give it a little time, and stay off of the scale if it is going to upset you. I hit the three week stall right on schedule. It lasted 2 weeks and I've lost 1-1.5 pounds every day since then. (Today is Day 39 post-op for me.) Good luck!

    Stall at 2.5 weeks out.

It happens to just about everyone. (As @@hudjess mentioned, there are TONS of threads to check out.) Just keep meeting or exceeding your Water and Protein goals. Your body is catching up with itself, and the weight will begin to come off again soon. My three-week stall lasted about 2 weeks. You probably want to stay off the scale during this time if it is going to upset you. Good luck!

    Harder than I thought....

My scale isn't moving either. I'm just silently screaming at it knowing I shouldn't be paying attention to the scale right now.I feel like I am a fairly even-tempered guy, but I was about to throw our scale off of the terrace by the end of the second week of my "three week stall." But, it finally passed, and I have been in a free-fall ever since. I bet that's going to happen for both of you before too long as well! Now, if I can just get to my next milestone before the stall rears its ugly head again!! :-) Hang in there! I'm with you. Good thing there aren't any neighbors behind our house! One day I'm going to toss that thing in the lake! Not really, but I know exactly how it feels.

    3 week stall?

I have heard of three week stall but I am coming up on two weeks and havnt lost anything so it scares me to stall in 3rd week. I have lost zero since coming home from hospital. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. Milk of magnesia has helped me deal with any bathroom issues. (If you use it, just take a sip or two and not a complete dose. I learned that lesson the hard way the first time...) And the "three week stall" is quite real. I hit it, on schedule, right at the beginning of week 3. I lost about 2 pounds total over the next 2 weeks, and then it started to pick up again. I've lost about 10 pounds in the last 10-11 days, so it doesn't last forever. Feel better.
  21. I was 338 on 10/30. On 11/1, I was 341.4. I dodnt worry about it because i the last couple of days had been closer to 1000 cals because of our anniversay and because I hadnt "eliminated". On 11/2, I was 340.6. I also had some spotting. I have mirena and havent period in years, so this was a bit weird. But the spotting has stopped. Today, I was 339.8. Its going down a bit but I realized the last time I remember having a decent size "elimination" was Saturday. Do I consider this the three week stall (4 weeks post op yesterday), some psuedo period or constipation? If stall or constipatio, what do you guys suggest to "break through"? I would really like to . Thanks HW 385 SW 359 CW 340 Sleeved 10/5/16

    Compulsive weighing

@@Dashofpixiedust8 I weigh every morning, and I record my weight every Monday (a habit I started during my six-month pre-op diet). I am also data driven, and it would drive me more crazy to not know where I was than it does when my body acts all weird. I won't lie, the "three week stall" about broke me, but I finally broke free of that, and the past week or so, I have been in a bit of a free fall again. I know that won't last forever, and that the ebbs and flows will go on, but I am going to enjoy it while it lasts for now. I agree with @@theantichick, if it doesn't stress you out, weigh all you want!

    What the heck happened?!

Omg. The three week stall is a myth. A true stall lasts three weeks or MORE. All your body is doing at three weeks is regrouping to the new way of living and making needed adjustments. There is nothing to worry about if you're following plan to the letter. You could literally sit on your arse for 4 months and if you follow plan you will lose. Not saying this is the thing you should do, but that your body has no CHOICE but to give up the excess in The beginning IF YOU FOLLOW YOUR EATING PLAN. You eat tacos and huge hoagies? Well, yeah, you're going to stall. Or gain. But at 3 weeks? Nope. NOT A STALL Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  25. You are in the dreaded three week stall that 99% of us went through. In my opinion, there isn't squat you can do about it but ride it out. Your body is in complete control right now, and will be for several months. Further out from surgery? That's when there are things you can do to help stalls along like increasing calories and lowering carbs. This is the time you concentrate on Protein and fluids and just healing up. Go with the flow for now and let it happen. Its not Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. It's major surgery along with a lifestyle change that takes time to ease into. The weight will come off at your body's own pace. Promise.
