Stalled and stuck

I'm sorry you are having a rough time. Stay on top of your Surgeon, bug them if you need to, in case they have to repair the stomach issue. Though it is possible it might just be from swelling too I assume. As for being stalled it could be a number of factors. 1) the normal 3 week stall could be effecting your weight loss 2) it might be the lack of calories your consuming. The lower the calories I intake the worse my weightloss is and 3) it could be dehydration.

"Regret" stage

I am 6 weeks po and I'm feeling very lost and depressed. Not many people know about my surgery so I feel very alone in my journey. I'm currently in a 3 week stall and I am realizing now after surgery that I really have a problem with food. Its been a challenge. I do not regret my surgery, but I am afraid of failing and I feel like I am. I don't know how to get motivated to eat right and exercise. I don't know what or how to eat. I don't know how to get over my food addiction and "head hunger". Has anyone here ever felt like this after surgery? Or maybe someone has some advice?
7. Well...so I'm told by my surgeon. She calls it the "one golden shot" surgery. But, you also know about the dreaded 3 week stall, right? It can hit anywhere from 2-8 weeks out so I hear? Hang loose, and work your plan like your working your favorite corner on a Saturday night on the strip!
8. I had my vsg on 11/3/2017 and in my first 2 weeks, I lost 17 pounds which was great. I as some issues so I was limited to chicken broth, Premier Protein shakes, apple juice, tea and Gatorade. Then when I was supposed to move into phase 2, I started taking Prilosec and zofran but couldn't have much more besides the occasional soft boiled egg, butternut squash & grits. I had to stay on liquids because I was vomiting often and had severe heart burn from even the simplest things like Water. I'm now on week 5 and I vomit daily. The doctor isn't too concerned. I'm moving around because I work in retail so I'm on my feet during the day. But I stopped losing weight & I can't understand why because I'm barely eating. In fact, I'm consistently vomiting. Should I be tracking my calories? Is this just the standard 3 week stall everyone talks about? I'm not eating "food" yet so why wouldn't I have a deficit? I can finally tolerate water without heartburn so I'm trying to get as much as I can in. But what else could I be doing? I'm also constipated and I can't seem to get my system moving. This wasn't a problem at first but now I get tired and dizzy sometimes and that's starting to concern me. Any suggestions to get my body back to normal? No more vomiting? Bowels moving? And how can I get the weight loss going again?

Weight loss stall

Many people hit the dreaded "3 week stall", hang in there, you will start losing again. Your body has been through a lot and is just sorting things out.

ESG date is Tues Nov 21!

The only time I have stopped losing was during a 3 week stall and it's when I started on "normal" food. I wasn't cheating but adding carbs in fruit and wraps/bread had an instant effect on my weight loss. The only mistake I have made really is over calculating nuts ( I was guessing what 20g was but when I used some scales it was actually 40g.). Since I got through this stall, I have consistently lost weight every week. My weekly losses range from about. 3-.5 kg per week. I have to say though, my clothing sizes are going down faster than the numbers on the scales. I just purchased a size 12 top and 14 dress (which is a 10 and 12 US size) and previously was a size 18-20(16-18 us). People are really noticing the difference too. I imagine you could loses much faster than me if you really restricted carbs and did intense exercise. I am going for behaviours that I can sustain long term. So I still go out the dinner but do lots of walking with some short runs and a couple of light strength training sessions per week. I eat the same meals as my family at home but just have a kids size serve and avoid to many carb rich foods. You are so right, you get out what you put in. A girl at my work had a sleeve gastrectomy the same time as I had my esg and I have lost more weight than her at this point which surprises me. I'm sure heaps of lsg patients are way ahead of me but it's so individual. Xo

Weight Loss Stall, Frustrated

I haven't lost a dang thing in a week! [emoji45] I guess this is the 3 week stall. Rather discouraging to say the least 5' 5" HW: 259 CW: 235 GOAL: Healthy and hard 140-ish?
12. Every surgeon/plan will be different. My advice is to follow your surgeons plan because you are under their medical supervision. My NUT has me on 1200-1500 calories and 90-100 grams of carbs with 70-100 grams of Protein right now but I'm almost 11 months out. I increased to those amounts over time. As for the weight loss it will happen. Early out I was a very slow loser, I plateaued at 3 weeks for a couple weeks (typical 3 week stall) and I had lots of stalls in between surgery and 4 months. Then I had a period of very good weight loss for about 4 months and now I've been stalled for almost 2 months. It's frustrating and I hate seeing the scale go up (I'm bouncing between 185 and 190) but I am just sticking with it and trying to find the money spot to break the stall (increasing exercise, increasing calories, decreasing calories, decreasing carbs, etc). I just remind myself that a year ago I was 275 pounds and miserable and that wasn't even my highest weight. Now I'm 185-190, 5'10" and wear a size 12! I might be frustrated as hell right now but I'm already healthier than I have been my entire adult life.

OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I didn't know there was a 3 week stall. I was so upset about it last week. I've been disappointed after the surgery. I was losing more weight before surgery! Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app

Not losing :(

Ok. First ((hugs)). Second. Let's have a reality lesson and do some math. If you are watching my 600lb Life, turn it the fuc* off! Seriously. Very few of us will lose 25-50lbs a month--even if you weigh over 300lbs. We just won't! There is no quick, overnight way (short of amputation), to get below 200lbs overnight. So settle back and establish your very own "best practices." Third. 37lbs in 9 weeks is what you are describing to me. So let's take 37lbs and divide by 9. You are losing 4.11lbs/week. PLUS there is always a "3 week stall" post surgery that can come on any time between week 2 and week 6-8. It can last 1-2 weeks. My RD told me I will lose between 2-3lbs per week at the start. It will slow as I approach goal. She said, expecting anything more than that sets us up for disappointment, disillusionment, and dissatisfaction/depression. She told me to ALWAYS follow the rules for my food stage: water/hydration/vitamins as scheduled for each day; and low fat protein first at every meal. If there is room, a bite or two of low carb veggies. If more room, then a bite or two of low carb fruit. Eat 3 meals and 2-3 scheduled snacks a day until you can eat enough at each meal to only eat 3 meals without over-stuffing your new anatomy. No drinking with meals or for 45 minutes after meals. Fourth. Track every bite lick and taste that goes down your piehole. Religiously weigh and measure and track!!! Don't cheat yourself. A bite eaten in the dark, standing up over your sink in the middle of the night STILL counts! She promised me if I did that, I would lose the weight. But if you have any doubts, go see your PCP about a low thyroid and also have them test for your B1 levels. Many of us obese and WLS patients have low B1 and it makes all the difference!!!

RNY November 2017

@RNY-Fall-2017 You're in the famous 3 week stall. Hang in there and keep working your program. Everyone swears it will happen and you will start losing again! Glad you're getting in 60g of protein. My RD goal is ideally 74g/day, but she said she would take anything from 60-80g/day. So I think you're doing great! @Msdooloo Congrats on surgery and on eating a little bit now! Hope the B12 helps you feel more energy. Morning everyone! Woke up so sore from PT classes. Gosh I so do not want to go today, but I gotta. I've got to get them in early this week, cuz the end of the week is nuts. How are all our November RNY Buds doing? Anyone on pre-op liquids yet? Hello and welcome to all the new members! Haven't heard a peep out of my surgeon's office nor my insurance but I'm gonna wait until Thursday to bug em when I'm in the office. Have a great day everyone!
17. In a weird way, it is possible.. but it's only because the body can now pause and work on healing (now that it's getting some materials to build with). This might be the key to the notorious "3 week stall" that it seems everyone has... the first 2 weeks are just liquids and the third week has a bit more substance.

One month since my bypass

CONGRATULATIONS on your accomplishments thusfar! You can already see a difference & you're doing great, especially when you consider the set back re: hospitalization, etc. I'm 2 months out & have only lost 20 lbs., but am focusing on the benefits so far & weighing weekly instead of daily helps too. I too had really felt down when I hit a 3 week stall that lasted for 3 weeks! Thank God that passed!

Stall

It's called the "3 week stall". Happens to almost everyone. Can last for a week or two. Stalls are a normal part of the journey, as are day to day weight fluctuations. Scale will even go up a few pounds. Don't fret.. there is nothing you have done to cause it, and no way to prevent it. Stick to your plan and have faith. Stalls are a problem if 5+ weeks pass with no change, and your measurements haven't changed. Many times we shrink while the scale holds steady.

Calling all October sleevers!!

I definately hit the 3 weeks stall. Havent lost anything in about a week. I watched a very informative video on YouTube from a bariatric surgeon named Dr. V about working out Post-Op. Your/My body isnt taking in enough calories to make working out productive. Walking for 20-30 mins is ok cause that speeds up your heart and will burn fat but anything else will burn muscle cause the body will go into starvation mode and eat your muscle. Dr Duc C Vuong check out the video on Working out after Gastric Sleeve. Now this all depends on your caloric intake. Now that ive moved on too soft foods I can only take in 1200 calories at most a day. Thats all my sleeve will fit .
21. Update to @BecomingMeAgain: So as difficult as it was, I stuck to our deal & weighed only once in a week, and praise the Lord, broke the 3 week stall! I saw my Dr. on Wednesday, and he agreed it's best to only weigh once a week. He was pleased with everything (although did say even though my wt. loss is slow - he understood when I explained that I had been at a stall for 3 weeks, since week 3 post op). So after waiting to weigh for the week, I lost just over 2 lbs. that week. Looking forward to next Tuesday, as it will be 2 months out for me. How are you doing with making yourself weigh only weekly? I know it's a struggle, but you can do it! We will overcome these struggles & be victorious together!
22. It really varies on different people as far as their wt. loss (& MANY things factor in, of course). Mine is slow: not counting the 9 pounds in fluid I gained from IV's in the hospital, and I hit a stall at 3 weeks post op (which lasted 3 weeks!) YES, THAT STALL IS FRUSTRATING, but "This too shall pass" praise the Lord - I lost 18 lbs. in 7 weeks thusfar. HW 205 (Keep in mind, not even 5' tall) SW 188 Post op from IV fluids: 197 CW 170 Yea! 😃 Thankful to break the 3 week stall I had!
23. @mrsto I'm still doing very well, thank you. ☺ I go to see Dr. Ganta (my surgeon) this Wednesday for 6 week follow up. I did hit a 3 week stall that lasted 3 weeks, but am now starting to lose weight again. I'm told this is COMPLETELY normal, and have read several posts from people referring to the 3 week stall. I stopped weighing daily & weigh once a week now (as difficult as it is to do). Am just focusing on 64 oz. water, eating as directed, increase walking slowly but at least 5 days a week. The 2 days I don't get out, I do careful exercise inside such as Tai Chi, and added arm exercises of 3 lb. wts. Keep me posted on your journey, it'll all work out. We went through the whole process of trying different saline amts. prior to my Lapband revision with Gastric bypass, and I wish I had known it was what contributed to my severe reflux (GERD) - but am SO thankful it resolved immediately after! God bless you!

How is everyone

Hi, everyone, sleeved on 6/26/17. I count all the weight I have lost since my surgical consult, so down from 357 to 272 and very happy with it. I had a 3 week stall at 300lbs, talked to my NUT and started tracking everything, and increased calories to at least 600 per day and came out of the stall. I now weigh or measure everything I put in my mouth, and per her advice shoot for between 600-700 calories per day, no more than 50 gm carbs, no more than 30 gm fat and between 60-70 gm protein per day. I don't let myself weigh every day because it fluctuates or stalls for 2 or 3 days at a time and then drops.....that drives me crazy, so only once a week for me. I am losing between 2.5-3.5lbs per week, and am very happy. 5FT 6IN 56 YRS YOUNG HW384 CONSULT WT 357 SW326 CW 272 (that mess above is supposed to be my ticker, lol)
25. You've lost 16 pounds in the first 2 weeks. You're on target. Look up the 3-week stall or 'third week stall.' It's a real phenomenon that most sleevers experience during the 2nd and 4th week post-op, but usually it happens around week 3. In addition, when is the last time you lost 16 pounds in less than 3 weeks? I assume the answer is 'never.' Realistic expectations are important throughout the weight loss phase. The vast majority of my monthly losses were single digit (read: 1 to 7 pounds per month). What matters to me is the bigger picture: I lost 100+ pounds and have kept it off. Good luck to you, and try to stay off the scale for a few weeks.
