    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I had revision from lapband to ds on June 7... 2 nights in the hospital and I’m home and I’ve even worked from home nearly all day today. This is way harder than lapband or csection ( I had 2 of those ) I had 2 week pre op diet, week 1 was 2 shakes 2 snacks and a lean green dinner week 2 was all shakes and I was down 13lb when I went in for surgery. I’m so puffed up now from IV fluids the scale showed back up 10lb so I’m staying away from that thing a few days.

    ACID REFLUX MEDICATION DANGER

Depends. I was told that there would be an 80% chance that I wouldn't need reflux meds anymore. I wasn't one of the 80%. Only recently though when I quit all dairy I was able to wean myself off the PPI. I'm without them since a few days and I hope that the last remaining symptoms I sometimes have at night will either go away completely (the proton pumps need some adjustment time after all) or that at least I won't have esophagitis in the next EGD. Regarding the MGB vs. RNY - usually an RNY is the surgery to go for. However, I was revised into an MGB Dr. Rutledge performs with the option to revise to RNY later if necessary (there was a specific reason for this decision so no discussions on how much sense that might make or not). I also had a hernia that was closed. Rutledge has some information regarding MGB and reflux on youtube if you're interested. In sum the surgery is no guarantee that you can stop taking reflux medication. There might also be a hernia and some food sensitivities contributing to the reflux problem.
  3. I am 4 months out from a revision from lapband to RNY. I have no regrets and would do it again in a flash. I have lost the weight I had regained and am now sitting around my goal. The only time I have issues is when I do something silly like thinking I can eat 🎂

    Gerd PPI Omeprazole

I've discussed this at length with my team and when extreme GERD is not well controlled with PPIs they try other paths erring on the side of caution concerning the new info on PPIs. You should check in with your physician Apparently when i was moved up to the highest dose/highest frequency they didnt want that to continue indefinitely. They prefer to opt for revisions to solve the problem completely before other complications start.

    Revision Lapband to RNY

Thank you and I'm so happy for you that you have a date set! I'm still really nervous about it but I know that I'm d**k of this band! My revision consult is next Thursday.... Hope I can make the right choice, sleeve or bypass....It's looking more like bypass due to my GERD. [emoji37] Sent from my XT1565 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Revision Lapband to RNY

I had terrible GERD and like you I would wake up coughing and as if I aspirated some. My doctor's visit, he removed the 4cc out of my band the highest I have ever had was 7ccs (banded in 2009) and now I am able to sleep without any waking up coughing and with one pillow not 2 or 3 for a wedge. Just waiting on approval to have lapband removed and revision to RNY. Many prayers for you!

Anthem BCBS PPO, How long did approval take?

I have highmark as well and mine was submitted I hope to think June 3rd when I called for my barium swallow report. I was told they would contact my insurance for approval, they already confirmed it would pay 90% of the removal and revision surgeries. So, I am anticipatingly (if such a word) waiting! I would like to make preparations and like others start my liver shrinking diet. I was told to even do the liver shrinking diet for the removal of my lapband!#stillwaitingapprovalinTN

    June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

Hi June friends. I was revised VSG to RnY (related to GERD) on 6/4. I spent two nights in the hospital, due to poor intake and output. I’ve been home just over a day now and I’m doing well. Focusing on water, I am not tolerating protein shakes, I did find a couple things that I am tolerating today so finally had some intake. Pain has been minimal, I am Just exhausted. Excited for this next journey. I had about a 75# loss with VSG, and kept it off over 5 years, but was still 50# from original goal.
  10. OMG, this is totally me! I have been banded since 2008 and I have lost 95 lbs but gained 17 again. I cannot sleep flat anymore and I vomit up food almost every time I eat. Sick of having to carry barf bags with me everywhere and not being able to eat properly. I have an appt next week to see a surgeon and talk about revision to sleeve or bypass. I also take omeprazole daily plus zantac when needed. I do not want to go back to weighing 300 lbs again! I am too old for that and I want to teach for a really long time. I am also worried about the loose skin and nutritional problems that come with GBP......any words of advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Revision Lapband to RNY

Hi all, I have an appointment to see a surgeon about either bypass or sleeve revision from the LapBand. I have done a lot of research but am not sure which one I should do. My insurance covers both but I have been on GERD meds for several years. I think it is because of the LAPBAND, did not have trouble with it before.......wonder if it will go away with the sleeve or if I should just go to the bypass surgery. UGH! So sick of the vomiting and the GERD and not being able to sleep laying flat because whatever I drank would come shooting out my nose and mouth.......I lost 95 lbs initially after my Band but gained back 17 lbs. So I am still at 220 lbs and at 5'3" and 52 yrs old I need to do something now to be healthy for a long rest of my life. I teach 4th grade and I want to be able to do so for as long as possible, comfortably! Any words of advice or insight would be appreciated!

    Help

Like others have said, it does depend on your health issues. I was in the same predicament when I started this process, being told that either surgery would be good for me. I started the process wanting the sleeve because the bypass seemed too intrusive what with your anatomy being changed. However, I’m a week post op with gastric bypass and I wouldn’t change anything. I chose bypass over sleeve due to more weight on average being lost, and more success with it. I see a lot of people with sleeve getting a revision to bypass. Either surgery can be extremely successful, but my research led me to bypass.

    Revision to RNY

I am 3.5 weeks post op with a revision from sleeve to bypass (RNY). Since April 22 I have lost nearly 10 kgs. That is due to the pre-op preparation diet and the restriction on eating post op. I didn’t have diagnosed GERD but had severe reflux and a hiatus hernia. I asked for a hernia repair and a re-sleeve (I had gained weight starting about 7-8 years post sleeve) and he told me that it would not resolve the reflux and the hernia would likely come back. He said my only option was the bypass. Since the operation I have had zero reflux. I have been told to take anti-reflux medication for two months post op, but I sometimes forget with no noticeable change. So far I am very happy. I want to get down to 65 kgs again. My weight loss has slowed now to about 2 kgs per week. I am happy with that and expect it to slow even further to 1 kg per week. I am currently at about 80 kgs. I am still pretty much only able to eat mushies - I have tried some firmer food and unfortunately it tends to stick and then come back up in a foamy mess. So slowly slowly seems to be the motto.
  15. Hi all, I’m having a revision surgery done at the end of this month. I had the sleeve back in May 2016 and from that I have severe GERD/acid reflux as well as weight gain. Has anyone else had this revision done? Any thoughts...?

    Help

Laura, I am waiting for approval from my insurance companies for the RNY revision surgery from the sleeve surgery 2 1/2 years ago. I never thought once I was told that all my medical problems would be solved with the sleeve surgery to consult any of my regular Drs.I thought that these surgeon's do this everyday so they know what is the best way to go. So I just went with the surgeon's suggestion that the sleeve was best for me. I had severe reflux disease, type 2 diabetes, HBP,High cholesterol, asthma and arthritis. My diabetes is gone, HBP,High cholesterol are gone. Reflux was gone for 6wks and now is worse than ever since the surgery. I lost 87 lbs and went from size 22w to 24 w to a 12 ladies. My suggestion is if you have medical issues consult each of the Drs.then weigh your options. Good luck Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Revision to RNY

I had Severe GERD before my sleeve and a hernia repair when my sleeve was done.. Within 2 months my hernia came back and my GERD has gotten far worse than I ever imagined. I am absolutely miserable and I'm taking 10 pills a day and zofran and GI COCKTAIL every day as opposed to 2 pills and occasionally zofran b4 sleeve. I'm waiting for approval from my insurance companies to get approval for the RNY revision surgery. I'm doing it for the GERD and tons of people are also having the revision surgery for the same reason. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Revision to RNY

I was revised to RnY on Tuesday (from VSG) my team said their revision patients have all been successful in loss. They did remind me I’m 80# less than when I started last time and went from a BMI of 52-39, so I will lose but the amounts will be less but percentage wise they should even out.

    1week 2 days

Hi, who is your surgeon in Mexico? I went to Dr Illan and it was the best experience of my life! I had the sleeve with him two years ago and am going back for a MGB revision in three weeks. I was treated better in Mexico then I ever was in America and it was more like a vacation then surgery! They treat you like a queen there!

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hi! I'm Angie, 26 years old and Mommy of 2! I had the sleeve done in 2015, 4 months after having my 2nd child and my starting weight was 282 after vsg I got down to 197 lbs and started getting terrible acid reflux and then after my 2nd year I started regaining and now I'm currently at 229 lbs. Because of GERD I'm having revision to bypass on June 17th and I'm hoping for relief and to lose everything I regained and some! I'm currently on day 2 my pre-op diet and it's harder than I remember it being before my sleeve. I just need to get my mind on track. Welcome to the group

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I've very anxious and excited as well! I hope you have a great surgery and get the results you want! Im sure it's going to be so worth it! Although I'm getting a revision, I don't regret having had the sleeve done. Wls is definitely a great tool.

I started my liquid diet today and at first it was MISERABLE but since it's close to bedtime it isnt so bad. How old are your babies? I have 2 boys (9 &5) and a 2 year old little girl. I've explained surgery to the older 2 and my 9 year old is super excited because he knows that means I won't feel like death trying to play with him.
