I am on my journy to have lap band surgery. I have picked Dr. Snyder in Denver CO. I am excited and nervous. I need to loose at least 100 lbs. I hope everything goes well. If I want my insurance to cover the surgery I have to have 6 months of doctor monitored weight loss plan or something like that. If my insurance says no, I will still get it done if I have to finance it. This is my life. I want to live it again!

@@Djmohr Yes, I have the option to do an ablation but at my hospital, they prefer to start with the meds. If one doesn't respond well to beta blockers, or doesn't like the side effects, or, if they just don't want to stay on them for life, then they can consider the ablation. Since I've just been diagnosed, the cardiologist started with step one--beta blockers. But I am keeping the ablation in the back of my mind, because man, the side effects of my beta blockers are really life-altering. Enormous fatigue, memory loss, depression....I have no interest in anything but sleeping. On the other hand, I now sleep REALLY well! -

I was sleeved the same day :-) Congrats on your weight loss. I have lost 32lbs since and just moved to soft foods this week. Was a relief as I couldn't stand the protein shakes any longer. Good luck with the rest of the journey :-)

Nerves only thing stopping me

Welcome. Nope, I didn't struggle with committing to the surgery. Once I made up my mind to have surgery, I pursued the course and did everything possible to make it happen. Prior to surgery I was a classic yo-yo dieter. I could lose large amounts of weight, but never kept if off for the long term. I had lost 200+ pounds over the years by losing 50, regaining 60, losing 60, regaining 90, and so forth. I was determined to avoid another miserable cycle of yo-yo loss/regain. Good luck with whatever you decide. -
anyone banded in los angeles?
FailureIsntAnOption replied to dainadain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, I too have Kaiser and was told they will not do the band and if I wanted it I could go to Mexico which is what I did. I am so angry at Kaiser at this point since I was lied to. They do the band, it's just too costly for them with all the fills and follow-up. I went to Mexicali, Mexico for my band and although I was very nervous, Dr. Alberto Aceves came very well recommended. Everything went extremely well and even though Kaiser has agreed to do my fills, I still prefer to return to Mexicali for them. It is only a 3 hour drive and the fills are done under fluoroscopy whereas Kaiser subs it out and fills are not done this way. I wish you luck on your journey and much success with your weight loss. Taint any better for the guys neither. I have been on testosterone replacement for a little less than a year now, I think it's what really jump started my weight loss and spurred me on to getting a sleeve and losing 120+ pounds already. Prior to my Sleeve op I HAD leveled out about 650 ngdl which is just right. I started out at 125 - way low and just above the testosterone level a woman produces. After losing 80 pounds it was time for my level check and it shot all the way up to 1050! I too was "tearing heads off". We cut the dosage back to 3/4 CC from 1 full CC. My weight continues to drop and the last check I had the level was 1200! Have you ever seen the incredible Hulk movie? Well that was me. PISSED does not begin to describe my attitude The real trouble is that that is my peak, a week after my shot, when I test the trough (low point) just before a shot, I'm back to 125. So I go through these wild swings TWICE a month - shots are every 2 weeks. It's played hell with my emotions, I go from watching a sad TV program and weeping to wanting rip someones heart out and shove it down their throat for something like bumping in to me. I'll be glad when I reach my goal and can stabilize my weight and maybe stabilize my test. dosage and level.

Hello, banded on 9/15/2009

Welcome Dan !!! Congrats on being banded and your weight loss. It seems like you are off to a great start! Kep your head up and keep up it up with the great work! -
Hello and welcome. Hey, 20 some pounds is good loss. My surgeon's partner think's I'm crazy because I had him do a partial unfill recently, but I honestly don't think that overnight weightloss or really rapid weightloss is that great. And I had that at the beginning. It freaked me out! And it was hard on my body, I lost my gall bladder from it. Now I'm losing the weight at a slower place and I feel much healthier, I have more energy, and I'm excited because I'm going to exercise soon and so forth. Hang it there! I know what you mean about wanting to buy smaller sizes. I was eyeing this sun dress in size 16-18 and I am just now starting to wear size 18s again I thought about it, but I decided not to. I figured I would wear it for a while and then I would feel sad when it got too big. And if I buy a size 16 or 14 now then I would just feel frustrated with myself for not fitting into it. Welcome to the site, I hope you find it helpful.

Hi! I'm from Ohio too. I was just banded by Dr. Osbourn from Cincinnati Weight Loss Center on Friday. Just wondering where you are being banded at. Good luck! I'm so glad I didn't have to go thru all of that. Congratulations on getting this far. I hope the time goes by fast for you.

I can't answer your first question The Fitness & Exercise Forums are now located under the General Weight Loss Surgery Forums. Topics that are surgery specific have their own forums. Any forums that aren't surgery specific (rats and raves, the lounge, this forum etc.) are found within the General Weight Loss Surgery Forums. Hope that assists you to some degree.

Well, its been a tough time again recently (sorry I know I am usually either boasting or moaning on here!), and I've been pretty tough on myself over a lot of things, so I was in much need of a bit of cheering up. Today I have been overwelmed by compliments, and people seeking my advice on weight loss because of my "success" (I am very aware of the last 12lb, and my many flaws, but other people aren't seeing that). Firstly I was shopping, and an old friend saw me from a distance, but wasnt close enough to say hi, but she took the time to e-mail me, to say how well I looked, within 10 minutes another old friend e-mailed to say she'd seen my facebook picture, and needed my advice on weight loss because I was obviously doing well, and then when I got to work THREE seperate colleagues commented on my weight loss, and basically asked when I was going to stop, one even said that every monday morning she waits to see how much further I have wasted away!! I of course just mumbled and blushed a bit, but Gosh it felt good!!! Its funny because I don't recognise myself at all any more, I've just reviewed my day 0, 2 month, 3 month, 6 month and 9 month progress pics, and I don't recognise me in any of them, I look bigger than I ever felt in the first 3 pics, and thinner than I feel in the second 2 - this is a very strange journey, but I quite like it!

Can't get fills - am I relying on band too much?
c7777christine replied to noahsmomm's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I Know how you feel!! I had surgery 2-5-08 and am down 40 pounds. I didn't have restriction at all until June after 7 fills. I thought my band was broken. What your going through is bandster hell! It sucks! Having a band and no restriction. You think your going to lose weight the day after your surgery. Wrong! My weight loss has been slow and steady. Now it's better because I'm not starving all the time. I have a 2 year old and no gym within 40 miles. I try to do push ups aerobics anything to move a little around the house more than normal. It is very hard to do anything with a one year old! Especially if your still breastfeeding. Don't be to hard on yourself. I met a new friend in the hospital. She and I email every week. She has been such a support. But it's been hard not to compare. She had restriction right away and was down 100 pounds in six months!! Very unusual for the band. She did out weigh me by 120 pounds but still. So try not to compare. She also has massive lose skin to deal with down the road. What matters is the weight is off for good even if it takes 2 years. Make sure your getting all your protein. Hang in there! Chrissie -
Hi and welcome to VST. The sleeve will only keep you from eating large portions in one sitting. You can still suck down a 3000 calorie milkshake if you really want to do so. They operate on our stomachs, not our brains. None of the weight loss surgeries will fix our emotional or mental tie with food. All of them can be eaten around, or cheated. The bypass scared me too, and the pure fact that only 30% of RNY patients dump on sugary/carby food is not much of a guarantee to me to keep my hand out of the cookie jar. Plus, all the Vitamin and nutrient deficiencies were definitely a concern. Blind stomach portion left behind that can get cancer and ulcers, yet isn't easily scoped. The malabsorption only lasts a max of about 2 years and then your body adjusts and starts absorbing carbs/calories/fat, but not the vitamins/supplements. The regain stats, and how many people seek a revision with RNY, and the people I know in real life that struggle with their RNY that are out 4-8 years, kept me away from RNY. The sleeve definitely helps you make better food choices. Protein is priority 1, so eat that first, and you won't have room for other junk. But, the choice is yours to make when it comes to what you put in your body. It's not always easy, but it's worth it. You'll have to find a coping mechanism/tool to work on your emotional eating. We all had to battle some sort of issue during our journey. Best wishes with your approaching appointment, and keep us posted on what you decide.

Ladies, I beg of you -- do NOT do this procedure! I went in for a bit of a "shape up," and the procedure was so harsh it did this to my va-jay-jay: Okay, I know that it's kinda strange to worry about a bit of hair "down there" when I obviously have a hormone issue, but seriously, LOOK WHAT IT DID TO ME! Don't let my story become yours.

New to the weight loss surgery journey
YOLANDA240 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, I just had my first consult with the surgeon I've chosen to due my VSG surgery. He was very encouraging and staff were very kind. I'm still a little scared to have surgery again, but I'm 38 with a 10 year old daughter and I need to set a great example for her. I've been over weight most of my life, I lost 115 lbs when I was 20 yrs old due to a eating disorder, after years of therapy I now have a handle on food for the most part. My story became crazy when I found out while pregnant that I had Thyroid disease I refused to take any medication until my daughter was born it took me six years to get pregnant and I was not taking any chances. After her birth I weighed 315 lbs and my weight loss journey started all over again. After lossing 65lbs the only way I new how not eating I've been stuck between 250-265 for 10 years. So, surviving cancer and a complete hysteratomy I'm ready to take the journey that comes with weight loss surgery. Sorry for the long post I just wanted to provide a summary of where I've been. -
Lost in the process, feeling like it will never happen.
BitterSweet* replied to chubbychunkythickplump's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate to say this, but tell a partial truth. Part of the reason you intentionally missed the appointment was because of the tragic accident with your friend. You can tell the weight loss center that and leave out the portion about you derailing. Get back on the program, eat right, exercise and make sure you have lost any weight you may have gained so that you won't be disqualified for surgery. Return to that center with confidence that you can do this. The person who needs to hear the whole truth is a therapist. This won't get any easier and I have read countless posts about the difficulties dealing with the mental detachment to food after surgery. Now is the time to begin dealing with the emotional part of the journey. That is where the real work is. It is possible. It has been done before, it can be done again. Good luck to you. -
I hope that the surgery went well and that you are feeling good. Good luck in your weight loss!

hi I am new and really need advice
linksmom replied to gritar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was alittle turned off by such an extreme procedure. It seemed like major surgery. Also I was concerned about losing the weight too fast. I hope like hell that I can lose sufficient weight while not having huge amounts of hanging skin. Seems like the loss witht the band gives your body a bigger shot at keeping up with your steady weight loss. Plus I have also read that some people can stretch their stomach back out and regain alot of the weight with the GB.:grouphug: -
From a Single Males viewpoint If you want to start datign don't cut your hair. Men like long hair. Men are afraid to get married as they are afraid that after they get married his wife will cut her hair Hair is a major secodary sexual charastic. Men most men love and crave Long hair. Hookers with long hair make 5 times a much as hookers with short hair. Men are more intrested in your hair than a few wrinkles. Turn off all the lights and draw the curtins he will never see you in the buff. SANTA

It does get better. I found a heating pad or the "Magic Bags' you put in the microwave really helped with the shoulder pain. My shoulder pain lasted for 3 days...that was the only discomfort I had... walking also helped. Good luck !! Tom, Toronto Banded July 6 06 Wt. Loss: 156 lbs
