    The little things

Hey Globetrotter... glad you posted this, sounds like you really have turned a corner. Great NSVs... I love to hear stuff like this 'cos it helps to keep me positive too.. Not long to goal now... congrats and keep up the good work! =]
  2. Adding to the chorus: STAY OFF THE SCALE. During the first 6 mths most of us see the doctor often enough that we will be able to monitor our weight. Focus on the program. Make sure you are getting in 60+gms of Protein and 64+ounce of Water every single day. If you are hitting those benchmarks aim for higher. Not only will it help with the weight loss, it will also help with the energy level. If you need to measure something take your measurements (boobs, neck, waist & hips). Lastly learn to savor NSV (non-scale victories). Things like jeans getting loose, seatbealts not as tight, feet no longer swollen, etc.... Take joy in how your body is changing and you won't get discouraged.
  3. I’m curious! What is your goal weight? How tall are you? How much weight do you have to lose? What is your proudest NSV? For those of you who have met your goal weight: How many pounds have you lost? How long did it take to reach your goal? I’m 5’2”, starting at 240ish pounds, with an ultimate goal weight of 130

    Poll: What is your goal?

I'm 5'4". My highest weight evs was 325lbs. My most recent high was 287lbs and the weight was heading up, up, up. I started pre-surgery preparation last May (2017). SW 222.4lbs CW 193.2lbs 1st GW 150lbs Secret GW 135lbs (that puts me smack in the middle of my theoretical "normal" range for my height) My actual physical goals are beyond scale related. I want to reduce my chronic daily pain back to the point that it's <4 on the pain scale. I want to reduce my risk of BC recurrence, normalize my A1c out of the pre-diabetic range, reduce my fasting insulin, reduce the fluid around my heart and reverse my heart enlargement, normalize blood pressure without drugs, reverse my asthma and dependence on asthma drugs, decrease my left arm lymphedema leftover from BC, increase my core strength to correct some DDD changes and curvatures, improve my balance, increase my endurance, and be able to participate in life outside my front door step. I want to be able to go anywhere, do anything, wear event appropriate clothing without being self-conscious, be able to wear a bathing suit in public and be able to take float trips down the Frio and Guadalupe and Comal rivers. My most recent NSV is that I went to a minor league baseball game last night and wore a short sleeved shirt for the first time in 20 years. My butt fit in the seat (barely) but it fit. And I wore my arms bare in all their bat-winged glory. I put the F-U in fun. It felt so freeing and I was able to just cope with the pain from sitting in the chairs and for too long without using anything for pain, and was still able to enjoy the night.

    Friday NSV roll call!

NSV 's .? I have several ! Size 8 jeans. Seeing my strength improve in Pilates class. A customer who I had' nt seen in a few months, and a former co worker, both telling me I "looked great !! " Slipping into small spaces with ease. Carrying heavy items up and down our stairs. Having to shop for a few new lite jackets or cardigans, as some of mine are getting baggy. Somebody calling me "tiny !!" (What the ? ) And as someone said previously, "just living life !!!"

    My first NSV

This might seem a little weird, however, it made me feel so good so I believe it is a NSV. I was sitting at the red light yesterday, and I could feel someone looking at me, and I turned to the left, and there are these 2 young boys hitting on me. The driver was practically hanging out the pasenger window trying to get my attention. Now, I'm a very happily married woman for 19 years, but let me tell you, it felt good to have these 19 yr old boys flirting with me. I know they would have just crapped thier pants had they known I was 40! LOL. I smiled back and drove away..............

    Non Scale Victories!

Hi all! I saw a thread like this in the January 2008 Bandsters and thought it would be a nice idea for us avengers to try, I know it hasn't been that long but I bet (like me) there are lots of people who havn't lost a huge amount of weight but something has happened to them lately that made them think YES! My NSV's: 1. Having my dad say a pair of shorts I had never been able to wear before looked good- He had (he's had WLS too) a weight problem himself and I always felt he was critical of my weight, so the compliment felt a million times better then anything anyone else could have said. 2. Trying on a skirt I bought and was previously unable to do up, only to find it fits PERFECTLY now- not only that but it's GORGEOUS! Subsequently trying on everything in my wardrobe (I mean EVERYTHING!) and not having to squeeze my way into anything  I look forward to sharing in some of your NSV's!

    My Last Winter Being FAT!

My one year is coming up two days before Christmas. I may night be quite to goal by then, but I will be darn close! I have the cutest dark wash denim short-waisted embroidered jacket that I bought just before I gained an extra 50 pounds (post-op of an orthopedic surgery). I got it out of storage the other day, and it still had the tags on it. I very cautiously put on, thinking that it still wasn't going to close over my belly. Surprise........it was too big! You will have many non-surgical victories (SNVs around here) that will blow your mind. I think most everyone expects clothes fitting better or being able to cross their legs, but another one is that your body's internal systems with thank you for the improved nutrition and a bit of exercise. You will actually start to feel better. May many happy NSVs come your way.
  9. That is a wonderful NSV! That is a landmark! To me it ranks right up there with not having to be weighed at the feed store, not having to use a seat belt extender, and not having the slats fall out from underneath the bed when you lay down on the mattress. BTW - I take two measurements - I measure my "belly" - which is what I call the largest part of my stomach / apron. I also measure my "hips" - which is where the widest part of my butt is - and it is (now) just below where the apron ends. I even lifted up the d**n apron to get this measurement early on. I take that measurement to let myself know what my hips would be if I get the apron removed. (I can dream, right?)

    Is my period an excuse?

Today is Tuesday march 7, and sadly to say today seems to be no better than yesterday. Damn I hate to whine and that is what I feel like I am doing. I keep tryin to tell myself all these other people are doing it and they arent whinning, suck it up and do what you have to do. Last night I had spagetti for supper, how much ? I have no clue, I ate until I thought I should be full and then stopped only to go back an hour later and eat more. Am I going to lose weight this way , I seriously doubt it. My husband is a wonderful man but he got on my nevers last night so bad, he watches everything I eat and then says "slow down" between every bite. I am a big girl and I know what the doctor said so I didnt need him to be reminding me through every bite I took. Did I say anything to him, oh yeah and it wasnt pretty. Ya know I am sick of thinking about my weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is has been an issue my whole life, do normal size women think about their weight all the time? DO they worry about becoming like me? I am sitting here thinking is there every a day that goes by that I dont think about my weight? I honestly dont think so. Wow how sad that is. I mean something as simple as going out to eat with my family can become an ordeal to someone like me, I have been humiliated more than once because I couldn't fit into the booth, or the chairs were so close together that I couldnt get between two people sitting at the table, so I have become the drive-through Queen. WOW that was tough to even type. I guess that will be one of my NSVs, fittin in a booth comfortably. SIGHHHHHHHHHHH Today isnt a good day for me, I am feeling a bit over whelmed. This damn weight thing, the kids, my job, my husband, money, housework, laundry, the dog and lets not even start to mention my Mom and sister. I have noticed that I have started taking more Xanax. I was diagnosed with panic disorder years ago. After being misdiagnosed for years, but to make a very very long story short I am given xanax to take as need when they seem to be gettin out of control. For the last couple of days I have felt like I couldnt breath, so I have taken a nerve pill to help. God I just want one day to go by with me thinking about my weight. I just never see it happening. No matter what I am doing weight is always an issue for me. I am sick of it, so it looks like I would be doing everything in my power to take it off doesnt it. See I ask myself that question all the time, you're scared of a heart attack yeah you do no cardio exercises, you hate being fat yet you over eat, your dad died when you were 12 of a massive stroke (he was 36) and yet you skip days of your own blood pressure medicine. Do I secretly have a death wish? No I dont think I am sucidical (sp) but I just want the madness to stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    first post op flying experience

Great NSV. That will be a great vacation for you and your wife. Enjoy the sunshine in your new self. The last time I flew I made double sure to get an aisle seat because I knew I'd be overhanging my armrest. When I boarded and found my seat there was a guy sitting in it. Apparently a man and wife bought tickets at the last minute that were not together. Before I ever boarded they had arranged with the stewardess to switch seats so I had to sit in the husbands old seat....which was right next to another 300+ lb guy. So here we were, the 2 biggest guys on the entire plane forced to sit side by side. Needless to say it was not comfortable and I avoided planes at all costs for years because of it. Now I'm ready though. Sorry for the long whiny story...just one of those really bad moments in time.

    Friday NSV roll call!

I don't know if it counts as an NSV since its technically weight related, but when they put me on the scale before surgery on Monday morning we learned that I officially weigh less than my husband for the first time in our entire 10 year relationship! He wasn't quite as ecstatic as I was, of course, but that's how its supposed to be, dammit!!

    NSV yay!!!!!

    NSV = Non Scale Victory
  14. I'm so excited!!!! I think I've finally had my first NSV since being banded 8/22. My mother who is 105 lbs soaking wet, gave me some of her rings a few years back. They were way too small!!! So I was saving them for my daughter who of course took after her grandmother. Well, I tried one on.....and it fit!!!!! This totally made my day!!!!

    NSV yay!!!!!

    What is NSV?
  16. A girl I work with said...wow...I can REALLY tell that you have lost some weight! You look great! I was floored! This chick NEVER says a nice thing to me!
  17. The bed, not the girl! We are just back from a four-day getaway and our beautifully-appointed hotel room had a Queen. Before weight loss? No way! For years it's had to be a King but no more. But now it was just fine. Oh, and I just hopped off the scale and did not gain a thing despite the fact that I ate deliciously-rich restaurant food (mostly French) -- those small portions really work. And I love it that now I can (and do) just stop. Now for some serious exercise (another NSV -- wanting to do it!).

Bull Riding and Belly Dancing OH MY! I love it! This is also on my wish list of NSV's to come once I am banded. How fitting Gretchen came on at the same time. I admire your spirit, you are an inspiration. What fun Bandsters have! Tonya

I dare U 2 beat my NSV... I rode the bull!!!

"I'm a redneck woman I ain't no high class broad, I'm just a product of my raising I say hey ya'll and yee haw!" Gretchen Wilson I waited all night to hear Gretchen, and she came on right when I got on the bull! It was meant to be, just like my new Harley was meant to be as Metallica yelled "Gimme fuel gimme fire gimme that which I desire" as I pulled out of the dealership on my brand new bike! I gotta wonder if my days are numbered because I simply had to ride that bull, it's not like I had a choice. And the whole "Debra Winger" thing was Hollywood B.S. because the guy running the bull doesn't do any special favors ~ I asked him to go really slow but, "You don't come to a cowboy bar to ride a slow bull." It looks so easy, but that's a wild bull! Since debanding & dieting, my new drink of choice is a glass of wine diluted in a tall glass of ice. I allow myself 2 per night, but I think I had 4 last night because not only did I go to the gym at 5 a.m., but then we took the dogs for a long walk, then danced my brains out and rode a bull. Was I buzzed? "Let me hear a big HELL YEAH from the redneck girls like me, HELL YEAH!" Yep, buzzaroni! Tonight I'm going bungie jumping. NOT! So there, anyone can beat my NSV cuz I ain't NEVER jumping off any building unless it's on fire, nor will I jump out of any airplane unless it's on fire! You guys crack me up. Thanks for always making me laugh so hard. I laughed so hard at these responses that I cried!

3 wk post op weigh in

Today has been 3 wks since I was banded and I am feeling wonderful! I am back in the gym every day, was able to get in the pool last night for H2O Fitness Class. And I am training for my first 5K. Total loss so far is 27.2 Lbs Total loss since Banded is 13.9 Lbs ! YAY!!!!! 100.8 Lbs to go.. I love this pic and how true it is. I think sometimes its hard not to say well ABC has lost _______ already or why am I working so hard and the weight is not justt falling off. BUT if we really evaluate who we were yesterday as long as we are more healthy today, we are moving in the right direction. Can I run on the Elliptical 30 seconds longer today than yesterday before I have to slow back down to a walk. Are my pants fitting better or are they loose. Here is one of the first thing I noticed and it sounds silly.. I HAVE SAUSAGE FINGERS there you go I said it. Like had to hold my hands under cold water and really work to get my rings off prior to surgery. About a wk ago I noticed not only were my rings spinning I could easily get them on and off with little to no effort. HELLO Christy!!! that was a HUGE NSV for me.... that same wk the scale did not budge but I knew other parts of me were changing and for the good.
