    March 23 buddies yet?

I had the bypass on 3/16 and have only lost 16 total. From what I've seen, that's technically low-average for bypass patients with a 300 lb starting weight. I don't really care though because I know it'll come off. I'm meeting my protein and water goals and walking 1-2 miles per day. Something's gotta give, you know? I think a lot of us are just primed to hold onto weight until the bottom gives out. But I will say the non-scale victories are something to celebrate! I can sleep through the night now, my high BP has reversed, no more GERD to manage. Hopefully you have some nsv's to look forward to. I made a list of 15 things I look forward to from this surgery that can't be 'found' on a number on a scale. I made the list for this exact scenario - when you feel like you've stalled or get discouraged. If you don't have one, I definitely recommend making one. Hopefully that helps!

    March 23 buddies yet?

Christi, I am in the same boat. I was sleeved on 3/9 and have only lost 10lbs! I did not loose ANYTHING for the first 10 days & was completely flat. I was not gone above 500 calories the entire time, and have reached my protein goal 2 days only. I am 55 yrs old so I knew my weight loss would be slower but it is frustrating when you see other people doing less exercise and more calories and the weight falling off quickly. You are correct, don't compare yourself to anyone. We all have different bodies, different metabolisms, even different body types loss at different rates (eg, apple shape vs pear shape vs extra weight in extremities, etc). We are all different and none of us will have the same experience. Keep your head up, keep working your program and you and I will both get the results in our time! 🤗

    March 23 buddies yet?

My weight loss was rapid pre-op, but post-op has been a lot slower. My surgery was on the 7th of March, too. I think - for me - it's been better to not weigh myself on a scale every day and just focus on staying hydrated and moving in small spurts.

    March 23 buddies yet?

Hey I was sleeved on the 7th and I’m down only 25 lbs and I’ve been beating myself up about it. Especially when I hear people have lost 30-40 pounds a month out. I’ve been exercising and portioning food. I did have my menstrual cycle which caused me to stall a few days, but since that has passed I seem to be trending in the right direction. I would say just continue to do what you’re doing, get that protein in and liquid intake. It will happen. Also, starting today I’m going to weight myself weekly vs daily. Trust I know exactly how you feel.

    Intro

Good for you! I'm so happy that you're able to do that. You know, only 5% of people are able to lose weight - and keep it off - with diet and exercise alone. Only 5%, isn't that crazy?!? Praise the Lord there are alternatives (like medications, or bariatric surgery) for the other 95% of us.
  6. I lost about 30 pounds in the first month. Sometimes your body is just ready to give that weight up. As long as you don't feel weird or uncomfortable you're probably fine.

    No weightloss 1 month PO

some people also "gain" weight from the IV fluids they give you in the hospital, since it's essentially salt water. I've read about people "gaining" as much as ten pounds from that! It can take a few days to work its way out of your system - although since you're ten days out, you're probably right - at this point it's probably inflammation or constipation.

    Attending school while losing

I'm excited to be back at school next week. I am a college student. One of the things that I love about being a student is that college is pretty flexible, which allows me to manage my health and my education at the same time. However, after my VSG surgery, I am already seeing progress with my weight loss journey. Three days after my surgery, Being a college student has helped me to stay motivated and focused on my goals, even while managing my health. Furthermore, I find that being around younger students has been a positive experience for me. It keeps me motivated and inspired, and reminds me that it's never too late to pursue your dreams and make positive changes in your life. I believe that education is a lifelong pursuit and it's never too late to learn something new or achieve a new goal. Overall, my experience has shown me that education can provide a supportive and flexible environment for people to achieve their personal and professional goals. By being a college student, I have been able to manage my health and education simultaneously, and I have been inspired to continue pursuing my dreams regardless of age or circumstances.
  9. 74lbs in 3 months is excellent. I lost MUCH slower than that. You can absolutely make a weight of 180lbs a reality. I never thought I'd ever weigh in the 60s (kilograms), yet here I am and still losing. Stick to your plan and it will happen! As for what you're doing, so long as your team are on board and you're managing it well, then there should be no issues. Just be mindful that muscle weighs more than fat, so get out the measuring tape as a secondary indicator that you're losing, otherwise the scales may trick you into thinking you're not doing as well as you are! I personally love my mini bypass/omega loop, and could not be happier with my choice. It's a more common procedure in my country, but yes, on here we're a tiny group!
  10. I had a mini gastric bypass surgery exactly 3 months back. Since there didn't seem much activity on specific forum for mini gastric bypass (as it isn't common in US), so I thought i would put it in regular bypass forum. Starting weight: 326 lbs Current weight (exactly 3 months post Op): 252 lbs making total weight loss of around 74 lbs. Diet: Currently taking 1000 (or maybe 1100 at times) calories. Protein rich diet with around 70 to 80g of daily protein and low carb. 3 meals and in-between I take protein shake, pure coconut water (around 500 ml a day) and sometimes raw Tofu once or twice in day if I feel hungry. I use weighing scale to make sure I know how much I eat. Workout: 4 to 5 miles of walk daily. Gym of 7 to 8 hours total every week. Main focus on HIIT and weights, and includes 2.5 hour of cardio. I have felt since I started gym, my body feels more leaner and in shape but appetite has slightly gone up. Like maybe 3 extra tablespoon of Quinoa. But what do you guys think of my progress? Any red flags or caution? As now is the time to correct things if something is wrong. Do you think a weight of 180 lbs is something achievable for me? Thanks a lot.
  11. For me every time Im over weight I get that buffalo hump on the back of my neck. 4 days postop I could literally feel that it went down yeah🤩
  12. How awful! I hope you're surrounded by friends and family to give you the support and strength to get through this! I also hope that you successfully meet your weight loss goals and are grateful you had the surgery, regretting your choice of surgeon instead. Sounds like what happened to you isn't a complication of the surgery, it's malpractice of the surgeon. I hope your next procedure goes well and you have a quick recovery.

Don't want to lose all my boobs

This is a valid concern of mine. My weight has fluctuated my entire life. I once lost over 90lbs and I got a breast lift, no implants. I LOVED my breasts, even with weight gain. I loved them. Now... they are already changing. I will probably get another lift, no implants...... 😕
  14. I had this problem. I was unbanded 1.5 years ago and gained 150 pounds in that time. I ate very little and still gained weight. The nutritionist said it was too little and I was essentially starving my body so when I did eat, I essentially holding on to every calorie. I started the liquid diet 3/11 and have to have optifast 5 times a day plus a meal and I've alresdy lost 16 pounds. I agree with the person who said it's not about how much. It's what and when you eat that matters. Trust the process. I will have gastric bypass on April 13th.
  15. That is awesome. I think I'm still trapped in the obese person mentality. For instance, I was hesitant to climb on a ladder that is rated for 100 kg and eventually did. I was recently asked to participate in some of the games during my son's school sport day and I said maybe later. After seeing some of father who are around my weight or heavier doing it, I joined and we even got the first place in one of the games. My son was super happy. Guess who is going the 200m run in the next sports day 😁
  16. Some people lose quickly & some lose slowly. It’s just how it is. The only thing you can rely on is that your weight of loss will slow over time. Not sure what weight you started at, but if you have more to lose you often lose more in the beginning. If your doctors were concerned they would have said something so enjoy your loss - it’s worth celebrating.

    No weightloss 1 month PO

Welcome to the three week stall. Almost everyone goes through this & you’re not doing anything wrong. The first stall, yes the first, usually starts in week 3 hence the name but it can occur before or after that time too. They usually last 1-3 weeks. Frustrating but very much part of weight loss. Stalls are your body taking stock of your weight loss & reacting to the stress of the changes you’re making. The first is often in response to the surgery, reduced calories, etc.. Your body uses this time to reset your metabolism, hunger hormones, etc. & is a necessary part of your weight loss. Your weight loss will never be a consistently straight line in a downwards direction. It will waver up & down. At times is won’t move, move slowly or move quickly. Though the scale isn’t moving some people notice their body measurements still reduce. Stick to your plan. Don’t stress your body more than your plan advises. Your weight loss will start again when your body is ready.
  18. I'm sorry I don't really understand your concern OP. If I had lost enormous amounts of weight right after my sleeve then I would have been over the moon, LOL. When you say you think you're losing weight too fast - what do you mean? Too fast for what?? As the others have said - it's likely that some will be water weight and some will be attributable to the different scales you used. It's likely you will settle into a rate of loss that reflects your starting weight and how well you adhere to the rules of whatever surgery you had. If you could share your starting weight and your surgery type (or better still fill in all the stats you can on your profile here) then people here might be able to comment more specifically on your particular situation. There's a lot of expertise - really helped me! Best of luck.
  19. My best guess is that it's mostly water loss as@catwoman7 mentioned. Some on pre-op diets lose a lot of water weight (mainly low carb diets do that) so maybe that is what you are experiencing. You may enter a stall soon since it sounds like your body is adjusting. Please make sure you stay hydrated and contact your surgeon if you experience other symptoms.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

I decided to start my pre op diet a little early to be I safe side and I have a little more weight to lose, but I am having major headaches from no caffeine anyone with ideas
  21. that's pretty fast - although did you lose weight before surgery and/or did you have to do one of those two-week liquid-only diets before surgery? If not, a chunk of that weight you lost right after surgery could have been water.
  22. Different scales will always weigh differently. Just go with the one scale weight. Make sure to keep hydrated. Ring your team if you are worried I was 325 pounds on the day of surgery and a month later I had lost 31 pounds.
  23. Hi my name is Catina I'm 3 weeks and a few days post OP. I lost almost 30 pounds in 11 days is this normal? Also I went my regular physician the other day which was 6 days after sleeve appt and I had lost another 14 pounds in 6 days HELP IS THIS NORMAL?
  24. I've not lost any significant weight over the past two months or so. The scale barely moved down from 83 kg but I noticed some changes on my measurements. The clothes that I bought three months ago are loose now but not to the point that I have to buy new ones. I didn't weigh myself for almost 10 days and you can imagine my excitement when I saw the number on the scale I can't remember the last time I was below 80 kg. Maybe in my early teens. I'm now 9 kg away from my target and I can't wait to shed those. Fasting certainly helped break the stall for me. I hope to lose 5 kg more in the remaining 20 days of the fasting month.

    Feeling pretty low

It's very normal to have feelings of regret early on. The first few weeks after surgery are the hardest because you're still recovering from major surgery, adjusting to your new stomach, very limited in what you can eat, and you haven't seen the benefits of the weight loss yet. For most people, things just get better from there. You will soon get to start reintroducing "normal" food and you will lose more weight than you ever thought possible. There were many times at the beginning that I wondered, "Why did I do this to myself?!" but now I'm almost 3 years out and that rough early post-op period is barely a blip in my memory. Have faith and give it time, and chances are good that you, like most people, will only eventually only regret that you didn't have surgery earlier. By the way, stalls are very normal. It's just your body re-adjusting. Keep going with your plan and the weight loss will resume.
