    RNY @ 220

I had the vertical sleeve August 2012 and will be revising to the RNY in the next couple of months — surgery date to be determined early August. I'm also on the lower end — BMI wise — at 214 lbs currently (4 lbs more than my pre-VSG weight/193 lbs on the day of surgery). Mostly revising to get rid of GERD (hopefully) amongst several other issues I've developed. You're only 3 days away! Good luck — Wishing you a safe recovery and NO MORE REFLUX!

    Lap band revision

I revised from Band to VSG 8 weeks ago My insurance did not pay for the band 10 years ago -- but different insurance and a doctor who wrote up the request based on the esophogeal issues got an approval within a week. No pre-op diet, no psych eval --- I met with the Nutritionist to go over the post-op plan and did a 1 hour orientation at the hospital --- so, had my surgery within a month of going in for an office visit to discuss reflux and weight gain. Really happy I did it. I am down 20 pounds in 8 weeks (at age 61) and removal of fluid from my band relieved the reflux almost immediately -- and it has not come back with the VSG.
  3. Yes --- and I revised from Realize Band (6/2009) to a VSG 8 weeks ago. I was surprised because 10 years ago I was self-pay for the band --- and I have been saving money in my HSA because I feared that it would have to come out one day and I would be self pay again. My surgeon submitted the insurance request based on my reflux and the damage that had been done to my esophagus -- not necessarily for remediation of obesity --- and I got approved for the removal/revision within a week.

    intermittent fasting

I revised from a Realize Band (June 2009) to a VSG after severe reflux and the discovery of a pretty bad band slip. As far as IF goes -- with the band, I could not eat very much at 1 sitting if I really ate protein first --- so, going for 20 hours after only 3 ounces of chicken or beef or fish would make me very hungry -- and cranky and slow my metabolism. Have you tried really going back to the beginning with your eating -- pea-sized bites, 3 oz of protein with a little veg until satisfied --- 3 times a day (finish eating by 6 pm and fast until 8 am -- get a little IF in there) -- no drinking with meals, etc.? A reset like that might push the scale and keep you satisfied throughout the day.
  5. One week post-revision, down 5 lbs since surgery day.....which puts me back under 300. VICTORY!!! Still a ways to go but I'll take every little win I can get. Feeling great other than minor abdominal discomfort.

  6. I know it has been a while since this thread was updated, but I have been looking for revision posts and just have to say I appreciate this thread! I had the sleeve in 2010, lost 145lbs and after 2 kids and 9 years, I’ve put 80 back on. I’m revising to the traditional DS next month and am worried about the progress that I will see considering they will not be touching my sleeve so I will be able to eat the same amount, which, in my mind, is why I lost the 145lbs to begin with so it is hard to imagine having to just depend on the “switch” part, but I have more confidence now in the “power” of that added effect after reading this. HAPPY LOSING!!
  7. Does anyone have a September date? I am hopeful to have surgery in September. Revision from an experimental transoral surgery to DS.
  8. It may be too early for me to chime in but I had a revision from band to bypass in May. I had the band 13 years and went from 232 to (usually) the 140s. But when I had a complication (esophageal dysmotility) I was unfilled and (no surprise) gained about 45lbs in the 5-6 months until the revision. So new high weight was 185. Surgery weight was 177. It’s been 7 weeks and I have lost exactly 20 lbs to 157. So I cannot comment on long term effects... BUT One thing is that this is sooo much better than the band. I recently had the first meal out with my husband where I ate a “normal” amount and didn’t end up in the bathroom. Normal being a miso soup and a fish appetizer at a Japanese restaurant. With the band I would often have two bites and not be able to eat which was embarrassing and people would always ask why I wasn’t eating (or sneaking off to the bathroom). Small portions make me feel good and satisfied. Unlike the band where it was usually painful or uncomfortable. Hope this helps! S

  13. Hi - I'm flying in on the 2nd for testing and then will be back on the 3rd for sleeve revision to bypass with Dr. Q. I'll look for you
  14. I'm currently scheduled for a sleeve revision to bypass on July 3rd due to severe reflux that has been eroding my insides and teeth for the past nine years. I choose Dr. Q based on many positive reviews and personal discussion with many of his patients. However, I was recently contacted by someone who has said that they would never let Dr. Q do the surgery and there is a whole FB page dedicated to uncensored commentary. I have asked to be let in the group but they have not responded yet. Although I get that social media is a platform that spurns both positive and negative, I have to calm my curiosity now. Anyone have any experience with Dr. Q? I'm asking in the bypass section because that's what I'm having. Thanks.
  15. 5 days post-op revision from VSG to MGB. Back home, feeling great. No more gas pain. Only minor discomfort in the abdominals, rather like after having done a bunch of sit-ups. Definitely don't feel like eating anything. Don't even have the boredom hunger like I had before. Fluids are going down ok though so that's good. Going back to work tomorrow. Wish me luck.

    No requirements????

That’s awesome! Congrats. May I ask, what insurance do you have ? I’m going for revision. I have emblem. They changed their recruitments last August to no longer needing a 6/7 month medically monitored weight loss “program”. My docs office were dumbfounded. I sent them the new policy which is easily found online via the provider policies. I had to forward them the info. Confirmed this via insurance advocate 3x. So annoying. I have all my appointments scheduled for the next few weeks. Hoping all goes well.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I'm going to have to try the tea thing I guess, I am finding the same thing, which is weird since I already had a VSG and just had a revision but I am finding Mio (which I couldn't live without before) very sweet and it almost seems like it's hurting my stomach. I suppose it is possible that since I am bypasseed now that the Sucralose is having a negative effect. Oh well, I'll try some tea and see how that goes down.

    January 2019 sleevers

Thank you for the great reply. I am still at a stall but I have become stronger with muscle and also I have found myself eating really healthy. I have lost inches and that is what keeps me going further everyday. I am sorry you need to have revision surgery and hope that is successful in the long run with you. I do miss food and often regret not eating a wonderful sandwich, or a piece of pizza, and hamburgers just don't even look good. Getting on the right track is important and pounds don't really matter since I have lost 60 lbs and hope I can get to my goal of 80 pounds. My dietician said I am doing amazing and my fitness pal app is helping me be successful with dietary intake and exercise. One thing that was never discussed while meeting with the staff was the importance of a food scale. It makes life so much easier to determine how much protein you have consumed as well as fiber. Fiber is difficult to get into your system when you are restricted on intake. Calcium chews are still a challenge but getting past it. Good luck to you.

    January 2019 sleevers

This is the only post I found on here mentioning Daily Harvest. I've just ordered from them yesterday — highly recommended by a coworker, and I'm really excited to try so many foods I would not normally eat. I am being considered for revision surgery (VSG to RNY) to resolve my GERD. I'm "nutritionally crippled" according to my doctor and need to improve my iron (getting an infusion again soon) and several other macronutrients before I can be operated on. Stalls/plateaus happen all the time! With my sleeve, even though I did not have as much to lose, I remember being stuck at the same weight several times, and sometimes for up to 3 weeks, which I agree with you, can be frustrating and disheartening when you're doing all the right things! But you're probably losing inches, and that's where non-scale victories come in. Your body just needs time to adjust to the changes happening. Dealing with our psychological food issues/addictions, in my opinion, is a great indicator of success long term. It's something I did not take seriously before, to be honest. Even though my doctor used an incorrect technique that has caused my sleeve to look like an hourglass instead of a banana, I've definitely made mistakes that contributed to my weight regain. I have started Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), reading (currently: Bariatric Mindset Success), listing to podcasts (found on here), and joined a support group. I think mapping my thoughts and reading about combating food addiction will help me gain deeper introspection to modify my behavior. I hope you're in a much better place now with your goals. Good luck to you!
  20. yes. All that extra weight is horrible on your health - just as bad as smoking. I should have done it *years* ago. One piece of advice - if you have reflux, I'd suggest considering the bypass instead. The sleeve can often (not always - but often) make that worse. Some sleeve people end up revising to bypass because of it. Bypass can often (again, not always, but often) improve or even cure reflux.
  21. I just had my revision from vsg to bypass yesterday. I don't remember the pain after my sleeve being like this. I am so sore and it hurts to move. Did you experience worst pain than vsg?
  22. @Deedee12Thank you! I don't know quite who to talk to @ Aetna, I was thinking a case manager may be able to help me. I too would just barely meet criteria if just applying for a sleeve as I am just obese, have no co-morbidities. In the clinical policy bulltetin there are options A-D for repeat bariatric surgery and all of them require "compliance" with diet and exercise program which is hard to show because when I was successful I did not frequently see a doctor for my band. I started seeing a doctor when my reflux started and i started gaining weight. My doctor prefers to do the removal and revision in 2 different surgeries but if there is no complications will do it all in one. My fear is that if i Just get the lapband removed I will be denied for a sleeve. Even without the "compliance records" I feel like with the damaged lapband evidenced by xray and the reflux and weight gain I should be approved for a revision---I feel that with all the research and data out about lapband complications insurance suggesting another band or a band fix is ridiculous! The person at my doctors office just keeps saying this may be tricky, I want to know from someone at the insurance company what I need to submit exactly to be approved. I have a POS II policy. I don't know who to talk to there or where to start and would like to speak to someone before submission because I know a denial can be difficult to fight. I am also choosing to go out of network because the previous physician I had seen did not catch all the problems visible on Xray with my band. I appreciate all of your advice, thank you! If you have any other suggestions I would appreciate it! Thanks! Maura

    Alcohol

After my sleeve I waited a few months. For my revision, I stopped drinking at least a few weeks before surgery. I will wait a year after this revision. It's hard and needed. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app

    New and Considering DS

I have been through a Rex program (I was even in their commercials back in 2010) for lapband but that surgeon is no longer here - and just had a revision through Nc bariatrics performed at wake med Cary to ds. Revision was 6/6- my lapband stopped helping me- I could either eat anything or nothing. So I started a year ago trying to get ducks in a row to do this- my insurance required 6 months of dr supervised weight loss visits (I lost nothing) and when I missed the November appt it set me back and then insurance initially denied it bc they said the psych visit didn’t say it exactly how they wanted so he rewrote his report resubmitted and approved. So anyways I was approved in March and I delayed surgery to 6/7 bc life - It’s surgery and that is kind of scary- but so is driving a car, anything can happen anywhere. You just have to have faith. In the hospital I managed pain with something via IV that worked great- coming home they sent me hydrocodone - I only took it at night to sleep comfortably and managed anything else with Tylenol and I stopped taking the hydrocodone after a week. I had more pain with this than my c sections but I also had my lapband removed a hernia repair and the ds. But it has been manageable. The preop liquid diet was hard, less hard post op but I’m sick of sweet and ready for purées! I am 41, no co-issues. With my lapband I went from 330 to 250 and maintained there for 7 years and then started having issues. I got back to 301.9 when I started this pre op diet. I’m down 20lb total in 3 weeks. It’s not the easy way out but it’s a step many of us need to get control over food. I was open with what I was doing - if anyone had anything negative to say they never said it to me

Just wondering if anyone from NC

I had a hernia repaired when they did my lapband to ds revision - I didn’t even know I had one! Hope it doesn’t happen again later
