Neck And Back Pain...did I Over Eat?
Cyndie B posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may have ate a little too much...creamy soup about 2 oz., Smoothie Yogurt (4 oz.) and then I had some mushy zucchini..not all at the same time but probably within 30 minutes and all of a sudden the back of my neck and my upper back started hurting really bad...but I didn't feel stuck or anything. Does being stuck or eating too much come in different forms? I don't know it was just really strange...I'm 11 days post op... -
It feels too easy.
lizonaplane replied to vikingbeast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES! I am two weeks out and I'm so hungry. It's actually better today since I'm back to work (sedentary, work from home) so I'm distracted. I'm eating about 550 calories a day and I could eat more. I've heard it gets better once you can eat solid foods, so I'll know more tomorrow. Also, I had a lot of pain and gas the first few days, but now it doesn't take very long for me to drink a protein shake (longer to eat a yogurt, but I also had a tooth removed, so that is painful), maybe 15 minutes. It took me almost an hour the first night home to take 10 pills but now it's less than five minutes. I can drink a swallow of water that feels like a real mouthful, but I still can't guzzle or drink a full glass in one breath like I used to. -
I am 25 days post op. I lost 18lbs preop, 11lbs by 11 days postop and then bam... Stalled. I've lost 1.5lbs in 2 weeks. I am on full liquids consisting of 3 protien drinks and 2 yogurts a day. It's so disappointing to be on such a restrictive diet and not lose the weight. The nutritionist tells me it's normal. At this point, I regret having the procedure done.

I haven't posted here since I joined this group and wanted to let everyone know that I am 1 week post op and I'm feeling great. The first few days were a little tough, not really that painful but just uncomfortable and lethargic. I started feeling a lot better yesterday and today even better. Tomorrow I'm seeing my surgeon and he is removing the drain (thank god - the drain is the worst part). I have lost 7 lbs in 7 days, which is nice. The first few days just even sips of liquid were hard to get down. But every day I'm able to ingest a little more. I am in the full liquids stage and I am allowed Protein drinks, yogurt (plain or vanilla or anything whipped without fruit chunks), cream of wheat (not a fan), pudding, Jello, ice pops. When I first came home the doctor told me to make hydration my priority and nutrition second. Today is the first days I could say that I have taken care of both. I had 2 Protein shakes and a plain greek yogurt which adds up to 78 grams of protein! I make my Protein Drinks with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (20g/protein) and Smart Balance Lactose Free Milk (10g/protein). I have also drank some Water with lemon and some decaf coffee. I really feel good. I have no hunger at all, but I do miss food a little bit. But I truly couldn't possible ingest anything if I wanted to so that makes it rather easy. Today I even went to the supermarket and walked up and down all the aisles just to get in some extra walking (while picking up a few things that I needed for the family). I just made dinner for them also and the food doesn't bother me or even appeal to me at all. Anyway, for all of those who are almost at your surgery, or are a few days past, I wanted to tell you that it is not that difficult to get through and it really gets better everyday. Just say what i say to anyone who asks how you're feeling....Better than yesterday, not as good as tomorrow! Take care sleevers! You can do it!

Take it from a Bandster (not RNY yet)...if YOUR doc says crush pills, crush pills. Do not crush extended release pills as that defeats the purpose as they will dissolve immediately and you don't want that with an extended release pill. --------------When I was banded eons ago, I had major pill issues. I'm on some other meds, two of which are huge IMO. With pharmacist's ok, I cut them with a pill cutter, or broke with my fingers, then I crushed with a pill crusher. Then there was the issue on just how to tolerate the wickedly awful taste.------------IF you are allowed these foods, I really don't know....take a smidge (technical aren't I?) of SF/FF pudding, stir the pill(s) in it. Put it in your mouth and swallow as fast as you can! Don't rub your tongue around your mouth, it'll make you taste the pill. Psych yourself out that you're not really doing this (but you are) and QUICKLY follow with another smidge, or more if you're allowed and use that as a chaser, or the rest of a meal, whatever. You might get a teeny taste of pill, but it'll be tolerable. You could also use yogurt. Dissolving a pill in liquid is disgusting no matter how you spin it. So if you can eat pudding or yogurt, try this. If you can have more of a pudding/yogurt chaser, the better! ------------ I had to do this for a lonnnnggg time, part of bandster hell. But it worked.----------------if your doc says to crush, HE must have a reason, always follow your Doc's orders. From what I hear, you don't have to do it long. Yay! Just ask your pharmacist about cutting or crushing any pill. I'm joined at the hip with MY pharmacist, we have a great relationship.------------Good luck on your exciting journey!

happilysleeved replied to kerbarrett's topic in Food and Nutrition
Hi kerbarrett, I am also 7 weeks out today and pack my lunch just about every day. Some days I am bringing some boiled shrimp, a few pistacchios and cottage cheese. I have also been bringing good ham with a piece of cheese rolled up in it and some spicy brown mustard to dip it in. I also am doing lots of eggs, tuna, cheese and greek yogurt and cottage cheese just like everyone else!! I did get on the world accoding to eggface (my most favorite blog) this last weekend and make 2 batches of her protein bites, one was ham and cheese and the other was bacon and swiss. They are the perfect size to eat 3 at lunch and are yummy! -

90 Days Out - Menu Ideas?
Meryline replied to GinaLola's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now I'm eating 150g (5oz) Skyr (high protein yogurt) with 20g of flaxseeds and a nectarine in it. In about 3 hours I'll have a 5 oz portion of stew (lean meat, potatoes, carrots and celery root) 3 hours later I'll have ground chicken fajitas with bellpeppers (5oz total), a little cheddar and some sour cream (No tortilla) 3 hours after that I'm having 100g of smoked salmon on a piece of Protein bread and humus And for an evening snack I'll have 1-2 mozzarella sticks That is around 1100-1200 kcal 112g of protein, 53g of fat and 46g of carbs A normal day for me is usually 1-2 cold meals and 3 warm meals. I meal prep and always have my freezer stacked with 3-4 options of pre portioned 5 oz meals to take to work and heat up. Without it I know this wouldn't have worked. Almost always when I make dinner I make a larger portion, so I can freeze the rest -

High protein foods: cottage cheese, cheese, tuna, haddock, salmon, chicken, turkey, chili, meatballs, greek yogurt, shakes with high protein soy milk. I also love roasted veggies: broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, red peppers, rutabaga, green beans, asparagus these keep well in the fridge and you can just take out a portion as needed. Calling all November Sleevers...
kinkymoo replied to snog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was Monday 11/9. Doc said it couldn't have gone better, but i had real difficulty keeping pain meds down on tuesday, so they made me stay for another night. One incision is crazy painful, the rest I don't feel at all. It took 4 staff and an ultrasound machine to get a line on me, so I look bruised and battered. Because of my uncontrollable painkiller induced nausea and vomiting, I could only keep Water down. The hospital food was naaaaaasty. They released me yestersay. Today I've had cream Soup and yogurt. My tummy is making lots of gurgley noises, and it hurts to cough, sneeze and laugh. -
I move to week 2 post op tomorrow and get to transition from Clear Liquids to full liquids (Soups, yogurts, milk, Protein shakes) What is your favorite week 2 food? I am so excited!!!!

I tried the danon light and fit Greek today and I loved it. I do not like Greek yogurt at all but this was really good.

Hard time eating on the pureed stage
teacupnosaucer replied to Martinichic's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
this sounds exactly like me when I ate too fast, or a texture I wasn't ready for yet. I would get a terrible chest pain that took a moment then passed. never nauseous or regurgitated anything, it just HURT right in the centre of my chest. here are my suggestions to you: 1. buy yourself a smaller set of silverware and a small plate to help you adjust to eating small bites. I've heard the size of your pinky finger tip. sometimes you just have to trick your brain with an optical illusion to help you relearn what size bites are really right for your stomach. 2. use a timer to time your chewing. Baritastic is an app that has a "chew chew chew" timer built right into it. use the timer and make sure you are chewing that entire time, even if the sensation starts to be kinda gross. you will eventually be able to chew a BIT more normally, but for now you really need to destroy everything that goes into your mouth. 3. PUT YOUR FORK DOWN between bites. do not chew, swallow, put more in the your mouth, because you'll think you're taking your time but you may be eating wayyyyy faster than you perceive yourself to be. (this is especially true of moms or teachers or nurses or anyone who has had a lifetime of needing to eat fast and get onto the next thing ASAP... those habits die hard lol!) take a bite, put your fork down, chew, swallow, sit and breathe... then take another bite. If you are chewing slowly and small bites and still getting that sensation, take a break from the food that causes that sensation and try something else. the first time i got it was from some mashed potatoes. I stopped eating them, had something else, and didn't try them again for another couple weeks (since they're not that great of a food for you anyway). for something like eggs that fits well into your post-op diet, try them the next day or two days later maybe. you can also try cooking the eggs a different way. some people can't do scrambled eggs but can do poached, etc. tuna, if you haven't yet, try mixing it with some kind of sauce, whether that be light mayo or yogurt or vinaigrette or whatever else you like. I had mine with light miracle whip. -
If you're on liquids, stick to liquids. It's not a fun stage of the diet but it'll pass. Get creative and switch it up. Milk, Soup, Jello, pudding, smoothies, etc. I wouldn't try Cheerios, honestly. I think it will really upset your stomach. I'm about 7 weeks out and tried to eat some cereal the other day and had a few spoons and chucked it. It just wasn't sitting well. And I can eat pretty much anything at this point so that's saying something. You need to stay pretty strict this first week at least. I started trying more "substantial" liquids/purées in my second week... Like greek yogurt and refried Beans.

Tips n Tricks- Snack Advise Please?!?
monkeymama replied to mrslamica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with others about the Protein. I keep a Protein Bar in my purse all the time for "emergencies" and I also keep Protein drinks at both of my offices. When I do snack (which isn't often- I was a grazer preband so have to try to not snack) some better choices have been: trail mix (nuts and a little chocolate), cheese sticks, 100 calorie snack packs, a spoon of Peanut Butter and yogurt. I have made bad choices too-everyday is a learning process for me. -
Hello every1! Just want to share that today I went to see my surgeon an everything is GREAT! In 9days I had lost 11lbs, he ordered me to star on the Phase II diet which is PURE FOOD! So today I went grocery shopping and bought cottage cheese, sweet potato, eggs, yogurt, oatmeal and more Popsicles to add to this new phase diet. I'm very excited b/c everything is going so well, haven't vomit at all, no nauseas I meant I think I been lucky or my body loves this surgery. I tried cottage cheese for the 1st time in my life and geezzz I never knew it taste that good lol. I hope to hear from all of you, and I hope everyone is doing great as well! Regards, Yodelania

I'm on soft food until my first fill, November 16th, so I know exactly what you mean--I began with a general plan of what each day's diet would consist of and now in the second week after liquid, I too am running out of options. My biggest issue is with breakfast: have never cared for eggs but have been eating eggbeaters every day. Today I tried baby oatmeal and it was just bland, even with sweet n low! May have to go back to yogurt (1/2 6 oz. container) Went to the grocery store the other day and just cruised the aisles looking for something that would be good and simple and mushy: best thing I found was a small can of cranberry jelly! Have done mashed potatoes for dinner and have some canned veggies I plan on whipping up. I have been dreaming of mashed cauliflower and so may buy cheap frozen and cook it down and mash it up! But like you, my main dinner in two weeks has been refried Beans with shredded cheese on top. Soon we'll be able to have a small amount of regular--yum-m-m!

No, I was on pureed diet one week out. At 12 days, they told me I could have 1.5 oz protein and 1 oz. fruit or veggies per meal (3) with a yogurt for dessert. I have gotten nauseous twice ( not even able to eat 1 oz protein and forget fruit/veggies) I went back to purees. Trouble is, now all the protein powders make me gag.

My tummy is so small that I am not getting all my Protein or Calories in?
Amanda626 replied to judy79's topic in Food and Nutrition
Protein skake w some Greek yogurt blended in boosts me to 40 grams for breakfast. This helps me a lot -
Since about a week or so out I have used Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt. I still eat it almost everyday. It is a bit thinner and I get the Vanilla. 80 Calories and 12 grams of protein in the whole container. I never had an issue with the sugar and my Dr was OK with me eating it. I started out really slow and was fine.

I was told the point is to drink liquids/shakes. The liquid process is for the liver to shrink, so that they can perform the surgery more effectively. Additionally, to train you to survive off of liquids post-op. I was told that even though you are on a liquid diet you should still try to drink as close to 1,200 calories as possible. so 3 shakes at 160=480cal. And last thing they also told me that I can have some limited things; like vegetables (once a day), yogurt, cottage cheese. oatmeal, everything has to be plain. no butter, seasonings, salad dressing, sugar, etc. I got a lot of info from the internet also. Search "shrink liver" Lastly, NO soda or caffeine.

Going back to work and eating schedule for pureed food.
BigAussieGirl replied to TeresaBlount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yogurt? Kept in a chiller. Or shakes -
I'm trying to stick to 3 meals a day, but it is hard. I can't eat a lot in one sitting. So, I'm eating 3 protein items and if I snack it is fruit or vegetables. I'm still trying to figure it all out. I eat yogurt and 1 T of pumpkin seeds and 1/3 cup granola. I eat this everyday. Lunch: chicken salad, tuna salad or snack tray of protein Dinner: steak most of the time, sometimes chicken. Broccoli last night Snacks might be a few cherries and 1oz cheese I also, buy vegetable trays and eat cauliflower or broccoli. I also eat a pickle here or there. My challenges are making better choices. I like Starbucks and I need to stay away. I choose the lower calorie drinks if I do get one.
