I too hate the taste of plain greek yogurt! But, I use it so much now and it is for sure a staple in my fridge! My favorite thing to do is use it as a base for dips.... One of my old guilty pleasures was ranch dressing and I found that you can buy the ranch powder (I like hidden valley brand) and mix it into plain Greek yogurt and it tastes pretty similar, well... good enough. It's a good protein boost for snacks! I like this dip with carrot chips, which are just fresh carrots that are mandolin cut into chips (I buy them in the produce section at Tom Thumb). Another thing I have found is Greek yogurt cucumber dip! Just some plain greek yogurt, pureed cucumber, a bit of dried dill and lemon juice makes a really yummy Mediterranean inspired sauce for chicken and steak! Lastly, if I'm craving something sweeter I'll mix in some sugar-free pudding mix (vanilla or cheesecake flavored) into the yogurt and dip strawberries into it for a sweet snack or even dessert! Some idea's for spicing up the yogurt itself if you like it plain would be fruit, granola, and sometimes I like agave nectar! My favorite brand is Fage and I usually purchase the large container at Costco for pretty cheap! Hope this helps! Best of luck!

Head Hunger Considered Less Legitimate?
sillykitty replied to sillykitty's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lol ... I get it! You don't want to see the days I'm traveling. Seriously who wants an egg white omlette when there is biscuits and gravy on the menu! Actually yesterday I did have some physical hunger. I was in my HQ office, I got tied up and missed lunch. Was hungry and scrounged around for some healthy snacks. I got home late and was hungry again, so I had the yogurt to get my protein in. -
Head Hunger Considered Less Legitimate?

I mean, zero offense, but I just don't know how you have a 400 calorie day. I just cant fathom it... I would be super curious to see what you eating? and I'm not making mockery of you, I just can't see less than 200 calories in a each meal. Sometimes, I even go over that, rarely, but still. Therefore 200 calories per meal, is minimum of 600. Unless I skip breakfast, which is never going to happen LOL. And of course I'm typing this as I'm eating carrot sticks and greek yogurt veggie dip. -
Suggestions for new Pre-ops?
Kimbero replied to JessieGrace319's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Jessie welcome to the group I am almost 6 weeks post-op had the gastric bypass and I absolutely love it I was also told by all of my doctors my surgeon my nut my primary care physician that I was a perfect candidate and that I would be very successful at it. So far I'm over 50 lbs down and thankfully has no issues with sickness, dumping, was in the hospital one night had surgery about 1 in the afternoon was home the next morning by 10 I have an office job so I took less than a week off my doctor said as long as I did not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk I would be okay all of my wounds have completely healed and I have little bitty scars that you can barely see I have one scar that is a little larger than the other four. My suggestion is listen to what you're told read up on everything that you can and take it real slow I ask my surgeon why there were so many people that had issues whether it's be being able to keep food down keep water down not feeling nauseous and he just said that if you listen and don't overdo it you should be fine I am now able to eat soft stuff so mashed potatoes yogurt tuna ice cream anything that can pretty much dissolve oatmeal and about 2 to 3 bites and I'm full good luck to you on your journey and sorry this was so long Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Head Hunger Considered Less Legitimate?
sillykitty replied to sillykitty's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yep, I absolutely do this. On days when my head hunger is the worst I allow myself to graze, but healthy options only, and all tracked, jerky, cheese, cucumbers with low cal dip, sf jello w yogurt etc. It's a compromise with satisfying the desire to eat, but keeping it under control with smart choices. It's a bigger challenge when I'm traveling. Head hunger is raging and I have a menu in front of me, it's tough to choose the rotisserie chicken over something less healthy. -
I made the switch from regular yogurt to greek yogurt years ago. Now, regular yogurt is just too sweet and runny for me. Of the greek yogurt brands on the market, by far my favorite is Fage. I like the taste and texture, plus I can add as much or as little of that little section of sweetened fruit as I like. Meaning, I'm in control and not at the mercy of the manufacturer in terms of sweetness and flavor. Lately, I've switched over to Skyr. To me, I can't tell the difference between it and greek yogurt. The brand I prefer is Siggi's. It's low in sugar and carbs and still packs the same protein kick. In fact, I'd say that it's LESS SWEET than Fage I usually beef it up a little with: 1TBSP granola, 1TBSP Unjury unflavored, and 1tsp chia seed. It gives me some crunch and texture, plus I get a little protein boost from the unjury. Sometimes I eat it for breakfast, others I eat it as an afternoon snack.

I will tell you, if I was eating a puree of chicken, green peas, and pumpkin--I'd be a Starvin' Marvin all the live-long-day. Rinse and repeat. I was starving after my RNY despite pretty strict adherance to my diet--until I was able to advance to soft food/purees. And then I still didn't feel full until I was able to progress to more dense proteins. BUT, I did not add insult to injury like I see so many on here do. I did NOT eat refried beans, nor mushy peas, nor pumpkin/sweet potato/butternut squash/lentils or any other legume. Had I done that, my insulin (which was still in the teens--way too high) would have stayed up and my BGs would still have been bouncing all over the land. Instead, my soft diet mostly consisted of these items which helped keep my BG spikes to a very small even keel. I COULD tolerate eggs--we are all different. My pouch is called Iron Will. 1. Flaky white fish (cooked in foil or softly pan sauteed in olive oil)--think tilapia, pangasius/basa, sole, haddock, John Dory, red mullet, haddock, pollock, cod, salmon 2. Canned salmon, tuna, chicken whizzed in a small mini chopper with Greek yogurt and a tiny bit of mayo/mustard and dill relish, s/p/gran garlic 3. Poached eggs/soft scrambled eggs (scrambled eggs that are cooked past 160 but are not set-up and rubbery) 4. Egg salad with cottage cheese 5. Cottage cheese with a dollop of greek yogurt and some peanut butter powder (low carb, low fat), and Walden Farms blueberry pancake syrup (zero cal, zero carb, zero fat) 6. Chili/soups made with slow cooked ground turkey and low glycemic veggies (no potatoes/root veggies/beans or legumes) 7. Veggies: Roasted smashed cauliflower (to replace mashed potatoes), frozen broccoli steamed until mushy then mushed with a wedge of Light Laughing Cow Cheese, green beans cooked with onion and chicken bouillon, sliced avocado, seeded and peeled tomato, frozen spinach cooked until mushy and then combined with a little Light Laughing Cow Cheese or low fat cream cheese or chevre Those were my foods for the "puree" phase until I was able to eat a normal diet at 4 weeks. My BGs were routinely in the 80s and low 90s after eating. They never spiked more than 10points after a meal from pre-prandial numbers. And my hunger was kept to a minimum. When I HAD to eat something I would drink fluids and that would help meet fluid intake and keep from snacking. I ate every 2-3 hours, just a tiny amount until my tummy could handle more. I had 6 meals a day spread about 3 hours apart. I supplemented with only 1 protein drink per day and got off of them as soon as I could--that's what my doc wanted. I still have 3oz of protein drink in coffee each day. Now I eat 3 meals + the protein coffee a day. If absolutely necessary to make a protein goal, I will add a snack in--or if it's a random Starvin' Marvin day. I do have those--usually right before a big losing phase. But they aren't every day. They are very random. Otherwise, I have little hunger and eat by my scheduled planned meals. Hope this helps. Your hunger is partly cuz your blood sugar and insulin is still crazy and cuz you then inject MORE insulin into your body. You're on the BG roller coaster from hell. The only way to break it is to reduce your bg/insulin response to meals and bring that into control. You can cut your insulin in half the second you decide to live that kind of life, then continue to reduce it until you're off of it. It may only take 2 weeks. Your hunger also comes from trying to transition from being a carb/sugar burner, to being a fat burner (which normally happens as a result of us going so low in calories (and often carbs)). Your hunger is ALSO coming from the types of food you are putting in your body (last night's meal) AND because you are not eating dense proteins yet. If you give it half a chance, this surgery will work for you and will help limit your food. But you are still in control of your choices of food. The surgery is only a mechanical limitation. You're smart and rationalize like nobody's beeswax. So if you want to figure out how to fu*k your new tool, you WILL succeed and either quit losing or regain to beyond starting weight. Then you'll really be fu*ked. -
Post-surgery, artificial sweeteners can make foods that were okay or semi-okay now taste all funky. Have you tried plain yogurt and then tried added your own pureed fruit? I make my own yogurt which is much better than anything from a store. At least you tried brands of a higher quality. Gelatin-based yogurts can barely be referred to as yogurt. What about sugar-free yogurt pops? Are you wanting to include yogurt in your diet for variety ... or for the benefits of the microflora?

I don’t like the taste of yogurt either but I do like it in my shake. I bought the Oikos Triple Zero yogurt and a few of the latex ice trays and filled the ice trays with the yogurt and froze them. When I make my shake I add a few cubes. Gives it creamy texture, extra protein and since it is frozen it makes my shake supe thick and cold without it being watered down.

I am not a yogurt person! I have bought some fat free Chobani & FAGE brands and can’t seem to eat more than a spoonful, taste is too bitter. So I am curious as to how you all incorporate your Greek yogurt into your meals. I am 6 weeks post up and starting to incorporate new textures. any suggestions.

I had bypass on Monday. I also had lap band removal and my gallbladder out. I left the hospital Tuesday around 6 pm. I stopped pain meds about 6 am Wednesday and have been up all day today. The pain meds we’re knocking me out. I’m having two protein shakes a day, sf popsicles, yogurt and chicken broth. Getting water down is easy for me but probably because I’d been drinking that way with the band. I drove to the mall today and took a short walk. My upper stomach is so swollen and numb. Do you have that? I’m lucky I didn’t have gas pains this time around because it was awful in my shoulder from my band. Ohhh and I was so happy to poop yesterday and today too. =) -
magpie26 thanks!!! i went to doc today. Congrats on your 93 lbs WL! I do know what I am 'supposed ' to eat. When I feel so hungry I would eat my foot or whatever is close to hand. I use the low fat Greek yogurt from Pricesmart brand which does not have much sugar or carbs at all. We have a pricesmart in Barbados I am breaking 25 years of food addiction and its been about 5 months now of changed eating. But its not easy at all. still difficult at times even after surgery.....God help me...……. When I am able to eat meats again (without blending) I will likely follow the keto diet which is what I had started to do a couple months prior to surgery -

Curious what you are drinking instead of Water. - I drink water with no sugar flavoring, a vitamin pack and protein powder that has calories but no sugar or carbs. You need lean Protein, fresh or frozen vegetables and a liberal amount of healthy fat. I do not think pureeing the meats in a blender and adding broth and plain yogurt to make them doable would be wrong. - that is what I have been eating Did you see the photo of my dinner tonight? spinach, pumpkin, peas with blended chicken. All of my 'meals' are organic and fresh vegetables except the bloody dark chocolate which is 80% and very little sugar Commit to 7 days of no sugar, no fruit, no processed junk food and veggie carbs, protein and healthy fat only and you will feel less hungry. I would stop the insulin for now since being a bit high is much safer than low with Type II diabetes and continue to monitor. It will be rough for a few days but you can do it. - I committed to 4 weeks of that lol I do eat some fruit in my smoothies which I have only just started to do. banana, beet, spinach etc in them. Not in huge amounts either but to make it nutrient dense. All kinds of exercise on YouTube or tapes/discs that do not require leaving the house. Post on here several times a day for support and encouragement. - I am a week behind when I was to start exercising. Hopefully the guy will get my relatively in good order treadmill working tomorrow. I went to start it yesterday and it would not start but the screen did light up! I started to scout out YouTube videos today and book marked them -

I'd be hungry if I ate what you are eating too. We all have different carb tolerances. Mine is quite low. When you eat carbs your insulin goes up, then you get hungry when it goes down. Low carb keeps it from spiking. I strongly recommend you start doing research and learning about low carb foods and recipes. You will have to experiment to see how low you have to go to help with the hunger. I have been experimenting for over 2 years and am at a point where I basically do high qualilty proteins (chicken, fish, beef and veggies (a lot of greens), and some berries. I did a lot of cheese, milk, greek yogurt (watch the sugar here, plain is better) in the beginning. Now more meat and low carb veggies. Lots of eggs and egg dishes also. You can do this and enjoy it. But you have to try different foods until you find what you Love. I also recommend you check out Paleo and Keto (DietDoctor) and the book The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung. -

A lot of great advice here but you have to do your part and make the decision to change TODAY---get rid of all the processed, refined crap you are eating. You do not need it, your dogs don't need it and it is so bad for you. You need lean protein, fresh or frozen vegetables and a liberal amount of healthy fat. I do not think pureeing the meats in a blender and adding broth and plain yogurt to make them doable would be wrong. Curious what you are drinking instead of water. Crystal Light and others are okay but juices and sodas are not. 64 ounces per day minimum and actually more is better. Make sure your protein shakes are low carb and IMHO smoothies loaded with bananas and berries are not appropriate. Commit to 7 days of no sugar, no fruit, no processed junk food and veggie carbs, protein and healthy fat only and you will feel less hungry. I would stop the insulin for now since being a bit high is much safer than low with Type II diabetes and continue to monitor. It will be rough for a few days but you can do it. All kinds of exercise on YouTube or tapes/discs that do not require leaving the house. Post on here several times a day for support and encouragement. -
I had my sleeve done June 26th so I’m still on the liquids diet. I physically cannot do it anymore. I can’t take another bite of yogurt or pudding. I can do my protein drink, drink some liquids, and have maybe half a yogurt and a scoop of cottage cheese throughout the day. I’m drinking some liquids but I keep forgetting to drink constantly. Additionally, I haven’t lost a single pound since surgery. I know ppl will say “oh your body is in starvation mode”. For ten days? And not a pound? I don’t think so. I feel like this surgery literally didn’t work for me and I’ll starve and be fat forever. Anybody else feeling his way?!

It sounds like you expected the surgery to do all the work for you. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. I wish it did. We have to work to reach our goals. You are eating a lot of carbs and things that don't fill you up, so that's why you're hungry a lot. I eat almost all protein, and I eat 800 calories a day, on average. I'm almost never hungry. I'm a little over 3 months post op. Drink protein shakes that are low in sugar and carbs but high in protein. Eat meats, yogurt, cheese, etc... Stay away from carbs. I eat no more than 30g of carbs per day. A few questions for you too: Are you tracking what you eat? Are you getting in at least 64 ounces of water? Are you eating/drinking at least 60-80 grams of protein every day? Are you exercising? Are you taking your supplements? All of the above will help you in losing the weight. Another thing, you've got to change your attitude. You keep saying that you can't do this and you're going to fail, well, yeah, you will with an attitude like that. We're all rooting for you and want you to succeed, but we can't want it more than you do. -

Hi bajansleeve! I haven’t had my surgery yet but will by the end of the year. From all of my research in and out of these forums, you should just really re-think your diet plan. Check out the new weight watchers diet, I’m not saying join but just a peek at what it’s like. HIGH protein LOW carb LOW sugar is all of us as WLS patients goal diet. As my surgery is approaching I have cut all rice, noodles, bread and pasta ( they simply turn to sugar). Try mixing it up with oats, quinoa, barley instead. Focus on protein, your shakes, Greek yogurts, cottage cheese, etc. Don’t feel discouraged you still have lots of time to make use of your sleeve! ☺️ do some more research on the desired diet. -

Late to the party, I feel the pain of being actually hungry (y'all have seen me say in so many times in sure). I'm 11 weeks post op, I've been hungry since practically coming home from the hospital. I've scanned through this thread, and I'm giving my 2 cents. After my liquid phase was over I decided to go gluten free, I don't do any bread or crackers or anything like that, gluten is an inflammatory substance and I have arthritis in my hands and knees from Lyme disease so no thanks. I'm not diabetic though. Anyway, I'm hungry A LOT. I've cut out most carbs, sugar and I've found (PS, I had a wicked sugar/carb addiction and being severely depressed doesn't help) I don't crave carbs or sugar anymore. I eat my meals, which are protein and vegetables I rarely eat fruit because of the carbs berries I do eat occasionally. I do not give in to the hunger, I have one snack (maybe) a day which is protein. I drink water or decaf unsweetened tea if I feel hungry between meals. I keep my calories under 1000, I just don't give in to that hunger beast. There are days I will sit with the cabinet open but then shut them. I have 2 teenagers and a stick of a husband and they all are adapting to no snacks, I also have 3 dogs that get dog bones. I keep a food journal and have the calorie king book my nutritionist have me. I will not eat bread or any sweets. I eat low-fat cheeses, I make my own Greek yogurt, honestly I'm sick of almonds. I've lost 53 pounds so far, I have to really start exercising, but you can do it. I lived off toast, crackers, coffee, peanut butter m&ms and cigarettes forever, oh and Coca-Cola. Use this tool and kick some ass! -

Try binging on healthy stuff though. Cottage cheese or greek yogurt and fruit. Chicken salad and a few whole grain crackers, etc Once you get the carbs/sugar out of your system, you will not crave them like you do now. Foods with protein are very satisfying and almost impossible to overeat. Continuing the carbs will keep you hungry and craving them. Empty carbs are not filling. Instead they increase the appetite and make us crave more. -

I have found that the key to eating eggs (for me) is to make sure that they are cooked soft or have some type of sauce on them. They must be moist in order for me to eat them. I mash up 2 hard boiled eggs with a bit of greek yogurt and it works very well. -
How to find a good surgeon - this is delaying my entire process :(
kdveri replied to Assya's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m glad that you’re going to look into them! Post surgery has been good. Not going to lie, the first day it felt like I got punched in the stomach a couple hundred times but then around Day 2-3, the pain was manageable for me (my main struggle was the nausea over the course of the first week). My doctor prescribed me pain and anti nausea meds and I didn’t end up using the pain meds because I didn’t feel like I needed it, but I know everyone is different. As for my diet, I’m currently in the puréed stage right now and will move on to soft foods on July 18. For a break down of Mount Sinai’s post op diet: Day after surgery (Clears): Water: they try to get you to drink about 4 little medicine cups full of water in the first hour and 8 in the second hour. If you can keep that down with no problem, then you are sent home. Week 1(Full liquids) Starts when you get home from the hospital: So during that time period I was drinking broths and protein shakes. It was a struggle for the first couple of days but I was able to get into the swing of it around Day 4-5. Week 2-5 (Puréed foods): I’m in this stage now. So far so good. I struggle to get to my daily water (64 fl oz) and protein (60g) goals for the day. I usually eat a Light and Fit Greek yogurt (12g of protein) and add some unflavored protein powder (Genpro: 30g a scoop) for breakfast but I can only take a few spoonfuls in a sitting and may or may not come back to it. For lunch, I periodically drink a Premier protein up until dinner. And then for dinner I have a cup of pureed soup. Week 6-9 (Soft foods): Haven’t got to this point yet, but I’m looking forward to it because I miss chewing :) Week 10-onward (Slowly reintroduce ‘regular’ foods) Overall this process has been good so far. I was really nervous right up until day of surgery thinking the worse. But afterwards, it turned out way better than I thought it would be :) -

I find it laughable when people say the hunger is not real. I know the difference between emotional eating, binge eating and comfort eating. I feel very hungry I am not sure if its hormonal or connected to the diabetes. I should not be this hungry even though my glucose levels are not fully controlled they are not as bad as they used to be. I am concerned that if I increase my insulin shots that I may get hypoglycemic so I have been conservative with the amount I take I eat greek yogurt. I hate cottage cheese. I do eat string cheese. I really hate refried beans. I eat nuts/almonds for protein as well. high in calories but not in carbs. These were items that were left in the house prior to surgery that I ate. does not mean I will buy more to replace them
