Thanks, y'all. I know my weight loss is a lot less than others at six months, but the NSVs keep me going. As does reading this board.
  2. my best "normal" new NSV????..... feeling and looking terrific every day. ........... waking up every morning happy looking forward to what the new day will bring me
  3. It's been almost 3 years and my 'top 3' haven't changed. 1) Waking up to a collarbone! 2) Having a sales lady call me small (Me, is she serious??!!! That's what I was thinking) 3) Trying on a size 6 GAP jeans and realizing they were too big. I got a size 4 and inside I was squealing like a four year old!!
  4. These posts are very encouraging to me. I've been stalled for 4 weeks now and am trying hard to stay un-discouraged! I did have an NSV - I was able to get back in some size 16 jeans that I haven't been able to wear for 6 or more months!

  7. I just got back from a couple of weeks of beach camping. I had a cool NSV that I wanted to share. The beach we were on was 3k long. So perfect for a 6km jog in the mornings. I find it easier to run on soft sand in my trainers, rather than bare feet. One morning I got caught by a wave coming in, I tried to dodge it, but got some water in my shoe. This caused some wet sand to gather up in my sock. I could feel it rubbing against my foot, but I didn't think it was a big deal so kept running. I took my shoe off back at camp and I had a massive blister, under the arch of my foot. It got a little infected so I went to the local Dr to get some antibiotics. Pre surgery I had no co morbidities, but my blood pressure had started to creep up. It wasn't at a level that I needed medication, but that was only around the corner. The doctor, who I'd never met before took my blood pressure, while I told him about my blister. My blood pressure was 105/60. The Dr said "Your blood pressure is nice and low, but I'd expect that from someone fit and who exercises regularly". I sat there while the nurse bandaged my foot feeling like I was going to explode with pride. I've had heaps of compliments from people that I know, including staff at my Dr's and my surgeon's office. This was different though. I didn't tell the Dr about my weight loss or surgery. It wasn't even a compliment really. It was just a comment from a Dr I didn't know. It made my day, so I thought I'd share. I hope you're all well, Deano

    Name Your NSV

I was a size 28. Today, I'm wearing my size 22 jeans. I keep looking at my "goal" jeans-- a pair of black leather size 18 jeans I bought over ten years ago (!!) when last I was at 205. Thirty pounds to go before I dare try them on. Today was a strange NSV. I'm having a garage sale this weekend. A gentleman older than myself walked up while my DH and roommate were inside. The customer was a flirt! With me! I froze like a scared rabbit for a few moments until he started teasing and I knew the answers to his riddles! Then my husband came out and the sweet thing had the most disappointed look on his face. Someone flirted with me. I'm still in awe. It's been thirty years since a man flirted with me.
  10. I'm 11 weeks out, I've lost 43 pounds and 2 sizes in tops and 1 size in pants. I had some complications so 13 pounds of that, I had to lose twice. I can do fast paced walking..haven't done in years. I'm sleeping better, more motivated,,etc. You have to look at the little things,,the nsv's (non scale victories) How much have you lost? If your clothes are fitting looser, you are probably losing inches!

    6/27 buddies?

I was also sleeved on the 27th. Down 20lbs since surgery 43lbs since starting the 2 week preop diet. I feel good. If I sit for too long my incisions are sore. I am going to start seeing a therapist that specifically deals with WLS because I have a lot of struggle with head hunger and emotional eating. Hope she has some ideas on how to curb that! My mom noticed I had a waist and that was a pretty awesome feeling and NSV for me!! Good luck to everyone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I was updating my blog this morning and realized that my BMI is now under 30 for the first time in probably 25 years. I am no longer obese and just overweight. I still have about 33 more pounds to lose but no longer being statistically obese is a big deal for me. My next goal is being at normal weight and out of the overweight catagory.
  13. I've always had "deep veins" and I've always been pretty sure this is nurse-code for "fat". I used to squick and squirm about getting IVs or doing blood draws, but eventually I learned to just calm the f* down and everyone's life is easier. I have coached people through which veins might hold, which veins blow easier, where to try looking, and a lot of "no it's ok you can keep poking." I've stopped having to ask for a pediatric needle as I've gotten better at telling people where to look, but it's still a chore. Can't ever find the one in my elbow - always gotta go with my hand.... My surgeon sent me for my 100-lbs-lost blood work (85+ since pre-surgery diet but 104 since my first visit!) and I went to the lab, took a deep breath and said, "I'm pretty patient about getting stuck, so if you can't find a vein right away, it's OK. My veins are hard to find." "No, I see it, it's right there," said the tech. I looked. Sure enough I saw a little glint of blue in the fossa! "Your veins are great," she said. "Great veins"?!? I have NEVER had "great veins"!!! But losing some of the thick fat in my arms.... Now I have great veins. WHO KNEW.
  14. I did "ok". I ate some crackers w/brie. Potato's. I fell down with dessert... I ate a piece of cake with pineapple, sf vanilla and coolwhip. The important thing is I didn't eat any candy! That was a major NSV .... We'll see tomorrow when I get on the scale..

    Question Bandster Family??????

Don't worry about Bandster hell! I don't consider that I have gone through it and was banded in 08. The worst part was right after I had surgery, then again after I had a fill a few weeks ago where I thought.. what did I do? I got over that right away, and frankly do not want to be without the band. I have PB on Occassion since I got the recent fill, but never before. I have found that feeling sad or mourning food choices is the worst of it for me, but I think about how fast I started to feel better and any negative thoughts go away. I think alot has to do with the way your looking at it. There is little you cannot have in moderation when you think about it, take it one day at a time. You will find that when you go to bed you will wake up wondering what subtle changes your body has done... at least that is how I think about it.. think of the NSV... not all of it is on the scale!

    I Miss My Food

I am right there with all of you. The first 6 weeks or so was hard. My family loves food and, while they felt somewhat bad about it, their eating habits didn't change so I was constantly surrounded by their fast food, garlic bread, Pasta, steak, all the things I loved that I couldn't eat. Once I got to the solid foods stage I would try to incorporate some of my old favorites and I quickly realized that my taste buds had changed. I don't know if it was the sleeve or the fact that I went so long without it but food that I used to LOVE and overeat daily I no longer found appealing. So, I started giving in to my cravings with the underlined understanding that I probably wouldn't like it, and it worked. I craved a McChicken sandwich from McDonalds. Pre-sleeve I could have easily eaten three of them (PLUS a large fries) so I went and got one, took one bite, and was done. It tasted HORRIBLE. I haven't craved McDonalds since. Same thing with Taco Bell, french fries, and fried fish. I used to eat all of those things ALL the time, and I haven't touched them since. Not because I'm forcing myself not to but because I no longer find them appealing. They tasted bad, I don't want to eat them. Every so often someone will eat something that I want, especially at baseball games. I'm a huge Texas Rangers fan and I go to a lot of games. I smell garlic french fries, nachos, cheese fries, etc. Same thing. If I REALLY want it, I'll try it. I tried cheese fries. Blech. Huge waste of $8. I try foods that I used to love and I haven't hurt my sleeve (I did another barium swallow recently, my sleeve is perfect) and I've lost 100 pounds in 4 months. It may work for you, it may not, but its a constant learning process. You'll find foods you love that you can eat. Egg drop Soup is my new best friend. I loved it pre-sleeve, I love it post-sleeve. It's easy to eat, it's delicious, and it's full of Protein. Don't get discouraged. This is the best thing we could have done for ourselves and as that weight starts to fall off, all of those NSVs will start rolling in and you'll never look back. Good luck!

    Poll: What is your goal?

I'm 5ft 3in. Heaviest weight was 292lb. I was 262 on surgery day on January 12th. Today I'm at 208. My goal is 140lb as it's the heaviest i can weigh with a healthy BMI. My goal may change further into my journey. So far my NSVs have been things like tightening up my belt on a plane, being able to rest my head on my knees, being able to shop in something other than the plus size section... I can't wait to see what else the future has in store. ☺
