  1. Well I was doing good there for awhile by getting down to 170.0 pounds when I weighed myself on December 16, 2020. Then I got all the way up to 175.4 on February 10, 2021, when I weighed myself that day. Today, I weighed myself and am now at 172.2 pounds. All I can say that COVID, regular work stress and work stress related to COVID did NOT help matters. Hoping with the warmer weather coming that I can shake some more weight off before I see the surgery team for 1 Year Appointment and Surgery Anniversary.

    This Pre-op diet is a b$@!:

Thank you, it will definitely pass. I actually just receive an email with a new surgery date of 3/10. I should just stick with the liquid diet till then.

    Bariatric multivitamin

The BariatricPal Multivitamin One vitamins are the best-priced bariatric multivitamins I've seen. If you buy the ones with iron, you might not have to take a separate iron supplement. They have a yearly subscription for $99.99, which is $8.33/month. You can buy them in smaller quantities (which I recommend doing to start to make sure you like them), but the more you buy, the lower the cost per vitamin. They do have a chewable one that you can take right after surgery, but I didn't care for the taste (I took Barimelts for the first two months, but they are pricey). You can take normal drugstore vitamins, but you have to take a double dose, and if you do that, the BariatricPal subscription is cheaper than most of the drugstore vitamins. You will have to take a separate calcium citrate supplement (make sure it's calcium citrate, not calcium carbonate). I LOVE the BariatricPal Belgian chocolate caramel and French vanilla caramel soft chews -- they taste like candy and make me look forward to taking my calcium. They are the lowest-priced calcium citrate chews I've seen (and they go on sale often), but you can get calcium citrate tablets for a lower price (about 1/3 of the price of soft chews per dose). I buy Caltrate petites and take those 1x per day (2 pills per dose) and soft chews 2x per day. You will also need vitamin B-12, which you can get as a sublingual tablet, injection, or nasal spray. I buy NatureMade brand sublingual tablets from Amazon. They are very inexpensive -- less than $10 for 50.

    This Pre-op diet is a b$@!:

Hello, new here. I was scheduled for February 18th for surgery, but due to no power and water in Houston it was canceled. I was on my 4th day of pre-op liquid diet, but stopped b/c of the cancellation and all the things going on right now. I’m going to start back on it tomorrow so I can be prepared when they reschedule my surgery. By day 3 I was okay, but the first two days were hard. It would be nice to lose 10-20 lbs before surgery. We got this, is just temporary.

    65 yr olds with bypass

Hi there. I was 65 when I had the RNY bypass. This April 28 I will be four years out and in September I turn 70. I am 4ft 11” tall and weighed 248.9 when I had the surgery. I wore a very tight and uncomfortable size 22. I suffered from asthma and needed a Cpap machine. I lost one half of myself. At 124 and between a size 4 or 6 depending on how its made, I have enjoyed many shopping trips to replace my wardrobe. I remember standing in front of a full length mirror in size 16 jeans and staring at my reflection with tears running down my face for at least fifteen minutes. I couldnt believe the difference. I didnt know the person I was looking at. While that was important the very best that happened was that my asthma is gone. Totally gone and I dont need to hook up to the cpap machine any more either. I have crazy energy. I opened a store at the end of 2019 and went to Legoland with my daughter and grandchildren and kept up with them and fit in the roller coaster seat with the bar all the way down. I feel better gaining on 70 than I did at 45. My only regret is that I didnt do it sooner. I missed so much before surgery. Here is my advice to you. Read everything you can. Get out of bed after surgery and walk the gas out which moves the pain out. Follow the diet you get from the nutritionist. Go into this with a very positive attitude and let life fill your heart and soul. Enjoy every day of your life and keep a diary with honest statements of what you are seeing and feeling. It will get you thru when you finally realize that person staring back in the mirror is really you. Good luck.

    Canada? Anyone?

Hi! Wow, 7-10 years is a long time! I had my sleeve done with Dr. David Starr in Toronto...but through provincial insurance, so I didn't really pick him, he was assigned to me, and had no complaints. He's lovely. I don't know what his wait times would be for self-pay, though...I'm assuming it would be quicker, so long as his case load is not too heavy.

    Canada? Anyone?

Hi! I'm from Alberta and looking to self pay for surgery in toronto as the wait here is 7-10 years. Who would you recommend using?
  8. I weighed 10 lbs more when I got home from the hospital 2 days after surgery! But by 1 week post-op, I had lost that plus another 8 lbs! Be sure to drink your fluids and it will come off, I promise. I echo Sue about the pain - call your surgeon.
  9. I started a period diet with on dec 4 at 329.5 on the day of surgery Jan 25 i was 300. Now on feb 19 I am at 273.2. So 56 lbs total. I’ve been losing 3-5lbs a week post op. Small portions is key for me. Did stop taking blood pressure medicine as it was making me light headed when i stood up. BP is maintaining normal.

    Allergy?

I got WLS on 2/10 and I quickly started quitting big itching red areas around the incisions and I’m not on day 9 or 10 post op and it got worse I’m allergic to the glue I took it off like the doctor told me and put cold compress but I’m afraid of the mark it could leave. The one thing I loved about WLS is the small incisions now I have big red spots of allergic reaction on all of them.

    February 2021 bypassers?

Hello everyone, I had my surgery 1/28. So today I started my soft food phase, eggs for breakfast, turkey slices for lunch with apple sauce. Dinner was some chicken strifry. It was great to eat again and funny to be full after 8 or 10 bites. Just reminding everyone that the restricted diets do end and things return to slightly normal. The end result is worth it to be down so much weight. Good luck on everyone's upcoming surgeries.

This pic is not from today, but from 1/10/21. My sis was recovering from Covid on Xmas, so we had to postpone it until then. This is me, down 75 lbs. and 5 sizes. I feel great, and it was good to get dressed in something other than sweatpants. Hubby did a "photo-shoot" when we got back home. The sweater was given to me as a Xmas gift from my parents. I am Greek/Egyptian, and I love all things Greek Key print.

    This Pre-op diet is a b$@!:

I am on the 10th day of my liquid diet. I have to do 2 weeks. Surgery is Tuesday the 23rd. I am fed up with broths so I have moved onto orange Power Ade Zero. Mixed with my protein powder it tastes just like an orange creamsicle. The sugar free popsicles I have too but they taste tart to me. Good luck on your journey. The smell of food will be overwhelming for you but then the thought of eating it will disgust you and then you will feel SO proud of yourself!! In 10 days I am down 23.6 pounds!!

    February 2021 Sleeve Surgery

If you don’t mind me asking why was yours postponed? I always have abnormal ekgs for everything. I’ve been to a cardiologist many times and they say my heart is fine. Now the ekg is showing changes and they did not make me see one prior and waited until now to tell me. I have a family history of heart disease as my dad died from a heart attack but I am still fairly young. I know that doesn’t mean anything. For now I am just frustrated. I had the lapband for 10 years and did so well with it and had it removed in an emergency surgery right before covid. Between those two things and losing my job I put on a lot of weight in a year. It’s a discouraging situation right now.

    Food Before and After Photos

WOWWWWWWWW! That came out absolutely perfect!! Seriously! You can really tell the meat is super soft, and that skin .... my mouth is watering just thinking about it 🤤🤤 Using pineapple on the pork reminds me of Cuban style pernil where they use sour oranges. I need to try making one this way! Was it sweet? But you're right, its a ton of work just because you have to keep an eye on it. I believe the last time I made one I through it in the oven covered for 7 hours and then uncovered for about 3 so I can only Imagine what 19 hours did to it ❤️ Cant wait to see how the estofado de res comes out!
  20. I'm a sleeve to bypass revision and I've lost 40 pounds since my bypass surgery on 10/29/20 (17 weeks post-op). Since my surgery was for GERD and not officially bariatric, I didn't have as much to lose to get to my goal weight. But I want to lose a few pounds more just to give myself some "wiggle" room once I'm past the honeymoon period. I know that weight gain is possible, and very likely probable, after the 1st year. I wasn't really prepared for maintenance after my sleeve surgery in 2014 and gained almost 50 lbs. in the 6 years following surgery. I want to be better prepared to maintain a normal weight since I've been given a second chance to truly change my relationship with food!
  21. HI Everyone New to this But so glad I found it because I’m all alone on this road. I lost 10 Lbs pre-op and I’m at 8 weeks since surgery, phase 5 on the food plan. I’ve lost 55 lbs total up to now but I’m just moving from 2 oz to 3 oz of food 3X a day so let’s see how it affects it.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

I’m brand spanking new. In fact, hit sign up after I read your post. I’m March 10 as well! I am 3 weeks with 5 protein shakes per day. As a vegan, I am on the Vega brand premade.
  23. Update for everyone my coordinator called me today to ask if I knew how much I had to pay for surgery at my pre-op. I told her yes 10% of the procedure since so am in coinsurance phase. She told me that didn’t sound right and to call the hospital they would know for sure. So the hospital said I have the best insurance because all I pay is 300.00 everything else is covered. A little lost I called my insurance asked to speak to someone high up and they too confirmed only 300.00. Like wow! I haven’t even met my out of pocket yet. So thankful I decided to get the more expensive policy for 20 extra bucks a month.

    Sleeve to RNY

I also had a revision from sleeve(early 2017) to bypass (dec 2020) due to GERD and some weight regain. Happy to say that I no longer have GERD. I’m just over 10 weeks post op and I’ve lost 20kg. May be ‘slower’ then some but I’m so so happy with this progress. Slow and steady :)
  25. Lost 26 lbs in the pre-op liquid diet phase, then post-op: 26lbs in 30 days, 44 lbs in 60 days and 63 lbs in 90 days. It then slowed down from there.... I lose some 8-10 lbs per month now.
