What is your on the Go Protein?
GreenTealael replied to zbradburn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep premier shakes handy as well as string cheese, yogurt and nuts. Just found Parmesan crisps and they are amazing. If I'm somewhere that no good options exist I try to search for a GNC and but a snack there -
What is your on the Go Protein?
orionburn replied to zbradburn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Plain chicken gets boring, but I eat a ton of chicken salad. I add a variety of things to it like dried cranberries, walnuts or pecans, celery, and I use Greek yogurt rather than mayo. My on the go quick-fix is a small whole grain/wheat tortilla with chicken salad. I usually end up tossing the last bit of tortilla away (and probably not an option for you at this point). Otherwise beef jerky and nuts are a go to while out on the road. I'll also keep a scoop of protein powder in a shaker bottle and add cold water when needed. Another good option are the flavored tuna packets from Starkist. They are about the perfect serving size, low on cals/carbs and pack a good shot of protein. I always kept a few of those in the pantry or at work. Eating tuna by itself isn't the greatest thing in the world but the flavored packs are good. -
I am almost 4 weeks out and I find the easiest way for me to get protein is by eating the high protein energy bars any thoughts on this?

What is your on the Go Protein?
Ladybug2659 replied to zbradburn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the go I have New Whey Liquid Protein bullets that are 3.8 oz 42 grams protein, zero sugar, zero fat, 2 carbs. It’s syrupy so I take small swigs. Lactose free, gluten free, caffeine free. Found out about it via YouTube body building video so I ordered it from Amazon. Comes in a variety of flavors, better yet refrigerated. I don’t have time for long drawn out meals sometimes, nor do I want that full feeling/legarthy when I am running errands. -
@@ClarityHill Protein Bars are absolutely delicious they have plenty of protein as advertised which is great carbs "can" be high so as with many things you need to check the label many/me too, find the Quest bars delicious - yum yum you can buy them at for example GNC - other stores too but not by me probably online this/that being said............... i rarely buy protein bars because they are very addicting for me can easily eat tooooo many over a day Protein Bar is good to throw in your purse or glove compartment when you know you might be unable to grab lunch or if you are really hungry - better a protein bar than a container of ice cream four weeks PO - and you are still alive to talk about it!!! keep up the good work i know you will enjoy the ride to your healthier, happier longer life good luck and best wishes kathy

Sometimes dairy and sugar cause issues very early on so things like protein shakes custard yogurt and apple sa use. I was like that. I then blended chicken and veg soup to a thin consistency and that was fine. Obviously you are best to follow your Dr. But just providing and idea it could be your sleeve doesn't like the above I mentioned like mine at first. All the best.

Lia M replied to wpierce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are about three weeks out, depending on what your doctor suggests, I was on puree type food then. So, refried beans were a nice go to for me. Cottage cheese has a ton of protein. Or try getting protein power unflavored. It all has somewhat of a flavor, but I put some in everything. Soups, Coffee , Cream of Wheat. -
Alot of places have options besides seminars. Online classes and one on one consultations. With your age, that might be more comfortable. I would research the heck out of the doctors in your area, call your insurance and see who they will let you use and talk to your parents (you will need them).

No Restriction
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to princessheather213's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the band is a plastic thingee they put around your stomach. once fills start, it will help you eat less. its not a cure all. so dont wait until those first fills to (feel restriction). that is diet thinking. you are not on a diet. you need to change what you eat, (choose healthy options) and most important, change the attitudes to (did i make a mistake) to yes, i am doing well. until that happens, you need to eat like you have restriction. i do not have any fills and am right now eating as if i do. (i do not go over 1 cup of food at one setting). i am sure if i tried, i could eat more but why did i bother to get this surgery if i was going to eat like i did before? eat to live, not live to eat. -
clear liquid diet
ChristenOnAmission replied to srh3136's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try some Isopure. You can get it from GNC but it is much cheaper on Amazon. It is a clear protein drink. Make sure it is very cold that helps with the after taste. -

Quest Hero Protein Bars - Warning
James Marusek posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Several months after surgery I began using protein bars instead of relying on protein shakes. I found Quest protein bars to be an excellent choice. They had high protein, low sugar and high fiber [to help with constipation issues]. They also tasted good and came in a variety of flavors. They came in handy in getting in the daily protein when I was on the go and couldn't drag around my Ninja blender to make my protein shakes. So a few minutes ago I received an email from GNC saying they were giving away free Quest Hero Protein bars for today only. So I thought this might be good information. But then I pulled up a food label on these new protein bars. They contain 12 grams of sugar. That is way too much sugar. Comparing that with the original Quest bars that contain only 1 gram of sugar. -
I've found 2 that I like - 1st place: Premier Protein chocolate shake - 2nd place: EAS carb control chocolate I like them even better with a scoop of powdered chocolate protein thrown in. I like my Protein shakes kinda thick. I bought a bag of chocolate soy Meal Replacement mix at Sam's Club and have been putting a scoop of it in my shakes. Sometimes they feel a little "grainy" but they always taste good. No chemical aftertaste. AND cheap, just over $1.50 per shake. You can get EAS at Wal-mart - 4 for $5. The Premiers, I had to buy a case of 12 at Sam's - 12 for $19.

I have been getting myself mentally prepared and my husband is excited for me. I just purchased a Blender Bottle from ebay... Now time to start trying out different Protein to see what I like and what I dont. OK So about the doc visit... He put me on 1500 cal and 10k steps per day. I just can lose about 30 pounds before I am in danger of my bmi getting too low for my ins. Wish I could sleep for a whole month till time for my first visit with my surgeon!!!!!!

Sincerely, Alex Brecher Founder, BariatricPal Hearty and Healthy Menu to Say, “Thanks, Dad!” What does Dad want? If he’s the stereotypical guy, he’s pretty simple when it comes to food. Some comfort food can be the most direct way to letting him know how much you love and appreciate him, but you are not doing him any favors by serving up high-fat, high-carb, high-calorie fare. These great-tasting ideas can help you get a Father’s Day meal on the table fast while keeping your weight loss surgery diet in mind. In the Center: Steak A fatty steak can be a diet breaker, but Tender Flank Steak is not. It is a savory and satisfying dish. Preparation only takes minutes; just remember to leave four hours to marinate the meat. Double the recipe, using two pounds of beef, and you will have 8 total servings, each with 26 grams of protein and less than 1 gram of carbohydrates. Guy Bonus: Leftovers! A big steak can do double or triple duty in the coming days. Leave Dad with some large lettuce leaves (instead of bread) and sliced avocados for steak wraps for tomorrow’s lunch. On the Side: Pureed Cauliflower If you’re a meat and potatoes guy, you have to have your potatoes…unless you have Mock Mashed Potatoes. You can make it with frozen cauliflower, or try a blend of cauliflower and cooked carrots, parsnips, or turnips. This is another great recipe to double. Serve it with Instant Chicken Gravy made Cream of Chicken Protein Soup. Guy Bonus: Midnight noshing! When Dad has the late-night munchies, he won’t do much damage by finishing up the “mashed potatoes” and gravy. For Dessert: Grilled Fruit You can get your quality time with Dad if you keep him company while he grills up a healthy dessert in the form of peaches, pineapple, or watermelon. Slice the fruit and grill it plain or with a bit of cinnamon or balsamic vinaigrette. You can put a small amount of goat cheese or another soft cheese on the fruit before serving it. Guy Bonus: The grill! By letting Dad make dessert, you’re help him feel useful and in control, and that’s what dads are for, right? Weight Loss Surgery: A Guy Thing or Not? If you are a weight loss surgery patient or you have been looking into weight loss surgery, you may have noticed something: there seem to be a lot of women! It is not your imagination. About 80 percent, or four out of every five, WLS patients are women. Why the Difference? Why are men so much less likely to get WLS? It is not because men are skinnier; obesity rates are almost the same between men and women. Reasons for the WLS gap may include: • Differences in perception of health, as women may recognize health risks earlier than men. • Cultural factors, as women tend to feel more pressure to lose weight than men. • Perception of need, as men may be more likely to feel that they can do it without surgery than women. More than women, men may feel that WLS is the easy way out, or they may be embarrassed at the rapid weight loss that their acquaintances may notice. They may also feel more out of place ordering WLS friendly fare at restaurants or eating “diet foods” in public. Should You Break the Trend? Male or female, the same factors should determine whether WLS is for you. • Have you tried multiple diet and exercise programs? • Do your BMI and health status make you a good candidate? • Are you ready to commit to a lifetime of healthier choices? If your WLS goes well and you embrace the changes, you can expect the benefits that can make life better. You can lose weight and get back your energy. Better yet, you can spend more time with your kids now and in the future. Get Motivated with Some Together Time At the end of the day what matters are the people you love. For Father’s Day, whether or not you are with your dad, honor the ones you love while you promote healthy behaviors together. Cook Up a Storm Dad may not truly dislike cooking. He may just not know how to cook, especially when it comes to WLS friendly foods. Whether it is father or grown-up child who is the WLS patient, both of you can benefit from preparing some high-protein, low-carb quick fixes as you spend quality time together. • Layer yogurt with Protein Cereal and berries to make an elegant breakfast parfait. • Transform an infamous doughnut burger from a heart attack on a plate into a weight loss special by swapping Protein Pancakes for the doughnut and turkey burger for ground beef. • Toss Protein Pasta with Low-Carb Sauce and spinach or cooked broccoli or other vegetables. Get Active Now and Forever One reason to get WLS is to be able to keep up with the family. To keep up the motivation, try scheduling a family hike or other activity, such as a trip to the beach. Notice how good it feels when you spend the time being active together – or think about how good it would feel if you could all keep up together. It’s a good time to remind each other why the hard work is worth it. Whether you are a dad, a future dad, or a product of a great dad or father figure, we want to wish you a Happy Father’s Day! i feel really bad about what i ate today
juliegeraci replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Jachut. Make sure you eat your protein first followed by vegies then starch. Your diet doesn't look too bad if you would just add in a vegie or 2. -

Day 2 since surgery....

Thank you all so much for your heartfelt support. Yes, I need to sip more Water. I think I only got a total of 16 oz in yesterday. I will try harder today. I did get 30 grams of Protein thru my one Premiere Protein shake but since it's liquid, does that could towards 'liquids' too? If so, that was another 11 oz I got in yesterday. Plus a popsicle. I have to share this....what I find is funny is that everytime I sleep, I've been having dreams of EATING! LOL! I was just napping & in my dream I was having some almond flavored cake shaped like sea shells. Haha! I'm not even dreaming of eating cake in real life. Gimme Pasta or chicken parm or steak with pesto sauce slathered all over it! Enjoyed all your messages...thank you so much for caring enough to respond. xoxo -
Sounds like an allergic reaction. I would switch to a different type of protein shake. Or even go with the no sugar carnation instant breakfast for a day or so. Call your doctor see what he/she says.
