    Regrets

Not happy with it at all. I have 1 cc of fluid in my band and am having trouble eating yogurt and tons of different foods. Went to have fluid taken out and the doc tried to put more fluid in. I hate the band. I wish I would of gotten bypass but I was to chicken to do it.

    Change in tastes?

honestly nothing so far! i'm only 8 days out though...but i'm already eating yogurts, puddings, jellos, cream Soups, shakes. the only thing i notice different is that after i have a Protein shake, i have a very sweet taste in my mouth for quite a while until i drink some Water. didn't have this pre-op. i've done the finger dunk thing on many occasions when cooking for the family. yesterday i made Pasta and did the finger dunk into the sauce and taste it for seasoning. also licked my finger after moving bbq from a platter at a party last weekend. really this has been very subconscious but nothing seems different so far...i reported it to my nut but she wasn't too concerned thankfully!
  3. This is my first time on a website like this and I am excited to meet new friends who are going thru what I am! Today is my 5th day of liquids pre-surgery and I have researched several different meanings of the pre "liquid diet"... my doctor is Dr. Eric Pham and i am scheduled for surgery on July 19th, 2012. I am extremely excited to have my surgery and am committed to do whatever it takes to be successful with the Lap-Band. How I understood the "liquid diet" was to have only Protein shakes, Water, Vitamin water, clear broth, liquid yogurt and sugar free Jello. I have mostly stuck to chocolate Protein Shakes, lots and lots of water and have added (4) multi-vitamins and (2) potassium and (1) Iron to my diet, as well as Emergency 1000 and Zipfizz which are extra sources of additional Vitamins in powder form (easier to add to my water/vitamin water). Can one of you please respond and let me know how you did on your 2-week "pre-surgery" liquid diet? Can you please give me some pointers as to what you did and how much weight you lost pre-surgery? Thanks so much!! xo OCPrincess
  4. After two weeks liquid diet, surgery on Tuesday and a couple of days not being able to eat at all.... Today is the start of my pureed diet. I had 1/2 cup yogurt at breakfast. And lunch I had 2oz tuna and 2oz. Mixed veggies pureed. All I can say is canned tuna never tasted so good. I'm glad I can keep food down. Dr did fill me a little at the time of surgery so it does take about an half hour to 45 minutes to eat. The wait has been worth it. Also I got really sleepy after eating, anyone else experience this?

    Help! Weird Symptoms (slip?)

Thanks for watching over me. This feels like a big slip. The restriction is at my sternum. I burp and it comes from much lower. I am getting reflux. I am down to full liquids so I'm eating soft Soups and yogurt. Soup is soothing. I had two questions: 1. Is repairing a lap band (with insurance) covered under the intial surgery after-care time period or is it something i'm going to have put in a seperate claim for? 2. Could I have done this to myself by starting Ab crunches two weeks ago? I am still pretty overweight so my crunches are'nt very huge, but I am doing simple ones and cross one where I attempted to touch my elbow with my opposite knee.

    Any vegetarian breakfast ideas?

Baked egg dishes are great - and you can do them in muffin tins for smaller portions sizes. You can also add any veggies and cheese you want. Juevos Rancheros are awesome - I take about 1/4 c of black Beans (canned - I rinse and drain them to get off a lot of the goop and salt) heat them up in a pan with about a tablespoon of chopped onion, a tablespoon of chopped bell pepper, and a tsp of chopped garlic (you can add some jalepeno too, if you like it!) then I crack an egg on top, turn the heat onto low, pop a lid on and cook it for about 10 minutes or so until the egg is cooked through. You can put some cheese on top too. For a quick Breakfast, you can make homemade bars (we're working on a recipe for one that's high Protein, low carb and actually tastes good ...) or yogurt is always good too.
  7. Hello BandLand!!! First I wanna say I hope everyone is doing great and I am glad we have this forum because everyone has the opportunity to inspire someone else throughout there journey. I am getting a lil discouraged though... Today makes 1month post-op for me and I am only down 20lbs... For the 2wks the scale is just not moving. I am staying around 1000-1400 calories but on most days I am at 1200cals. I am starting to feel very hungry again. I will be getting my first fill this Friday the 18th. Currently i have no Fluid in my 14cc band. I just wanna know how has everyone's journey been? Any regrets? Anyone doing any vigorous exercise right away? Also for those out there who understand carbs... I need help!!! On a daily basis, I am trying to stay at 1200cals, 60-80g Protein, & under 100g carbs... I just dont understand how people say they stay under 30g of carbs when there are carbs in just about everything we eat including high protein foods also. If I eat yogurt for Breakfast, thats 20g carbs just from my a.m. snack... Can someone please explain carbs to me? I have been avoiding Pasta & rice and minimal bread but I do have a bagel thin or english muffin once or twice a week. Any help or advice would be great!!! Thanks Everyone... Below are some additional questions. Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks... HDC 1. (Women only question) What do you do for cravings and appetite when it's that time of the month? Does your weight fluctuate during this time as well? 2. Because there are carbs in almost everything we eat, how do you determine what is a good amount of carbs per day? My fitnesspal says 249g is a go number. 3. What kind of exercise do you all do and how much and for how long? 4. Any ideas on things I can do as a truck-driver that works nights? I will be going back to work in a couple weeks and snacking is how I use to make it on the road. I need ideas or even some healthy snack choices to get me through my nights at work driving down that lonely highway. 5. Are sunflower seeds bad? 6. So far I have been eating 1200 calories of less per day, along with 80g of protein and trying to keep my carbs under 100g. Is this ok??? I'm really unsure… Just still so confused and need some words of wisdom on certain things. Bandsters please share any advise or tips to help me through my journey. I appreciate all comments and I accept all the supportand encouragement I can get. Thanks a lot lbt…

    Pureed

I've made: chicken curry puree Chana Masala (chickpea curry) puree An Italian Puree (cottage cheese, parmesan, sauce, crumbled soy sausage, spices/herbs) Turkey Meatballs and gravy puree Hummus Indian Yogurt Soup (kadhi) I've found that pureeing foods that I like anyway really helps to keep eating interesting. There is no way I can eat the same thing over and over...and I hate using pre-packaged foods or "diet" foods.
  9. The hernias, heartburn, and small issues are easy to deal with. You never have to worry about meal planning if you have yogurt, cottage cheese, rotisserie chicken, smoked salmon, tuna, veggies, PB2, Proteins, etc. on hand. I love this simple life after a lifetime of cooking hearty meals. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-Op Diet

I did broth, yogurt, sf pudding, sf Popsicles, muscle milk, vitamin water, sf jello
  11. Mashed potatoes are on my stage 3 (after full liquids) diet and are good mixed with plain greek yogurt (tastes like sour cream, but has a nice bit of protein!) Also, I know you don't like cottage cheese, but if you mix 1/4 c cottage cheese with an egg and a little cold water and beat it up and scramble it, it's very tasty (seasoned to you liking) and really doesn't taste anything like cottage cheese.

    List of things to get

Hit the food/recipe forum for the place to order samples of Protein powders. As for stuff to take to the hospital, I believe in packing light, but to have some essentials to make the stay more enjoyable. 1) Chapstick, Blistex, lip balm of some sort (I know you're a man, but believe me, chapped, dry lips suck) 2) comfy undies, and lounge pants to wear home 3) I took my own slippers to walk in, non-skid bottom 4) I took some lotion, shampoo/conditioner all travel size 5) Toothbrush/toothpaste/mouthwash I didn't take books or magazines, nothing to keep me occupied. There is typically a tv, and you'll be walking, sipping and sleeping so no need for all that other crap in my opinion unless you really like that kind of stuff. As for stuff to have at home, it kind of depends on your diet progression. sugar-free popsicles, broth cubes (so I could control the taste), Gatorade G2, those flavored herbal decaf teas were lifesavers for me, warm fluids worked so much better. Cream Soups, greek yogurt, sugar free pudding packages (not the pre-packaged stuff, the powder stuff in the box) Here's a link I send to everyone in the pre-op/prep stage: http://vsgfaq.wordpress.com/ A heating pad is pretty awesome for the gas pains, as is Gas X strips. Best wishes ! ! !
  13. my pre op is harsh !! 2 litres of milk 2 litres of water one muller lite yogurt and a bovril stock cube !! Only one week tho , day four tomorrow and it's not too bad ..... ?!

    So I Guess I Failed Already ......

I'm on all liquids still, my kids are home eating popcorn by the truck full. It is driving me crazy. I grabed a hand and was eating it til my husband notice hit it out of my hand. He yelled "liquid- not popcorn!" I had to go hide in my room so I won't steal any more popcorn. I want my post op visit to be soon then it is 1/5 so maybe get a fill. , scared that I won't. Can't wait to kids go back to school and stop munching on everything. I wanted to eat thing today I don't even like, just to I could chew I think. I ran to store and got more greek yogurt and ate it very slowly. Hang in there we got this!

    So I Guess I Failed Already ......

My suggestion is prepare lots of " your foods" I bought 2 dozen small plastic containers and filled them up with jello or jello and yogurt parfait, green pea soup, onion soup, and today making black bean soup and maybe some squash soup and it will be at my fingertips. Yest I took 4 of these and my milkshake on my shopping trip etc and my kids bought me a nice lunch bag- and I ate the same way I would have fed my babies 40 yrs ago, every 3/4 hours. I think preparation helps.

    Super hungry!

I will be 4 weeks postop tomorrow, I'm hungry too! I went to Walmart Grocery store today and finding protein rich foods without it becoming monotonous is a real task. I found some egg bites premade with cheese and Turkey sausage, I don't eat pork, but they had bacon as well. I found a large container of Oikos Yogurt which is 12 grams of protein per serving, egg whites, cream of wheat, oatmeal, Sargento cheese snacks, milk for protein drink mixes and few other items for my family. I miss having ftuit, vegetables, salads, fish because my body is rejecting my favorite protein. I'm also feeling tired of sweet liquids, not being able to drink plain old fashioned water without an enhancement to tolerate it, I want cold cereal, I want cashews and pistachios for a healthy protein boost. I miss some of my favorite healthy staples that would satiate my hunger, but Ariel aka my stomach is still healing and I have to respect it. I'm hungry too.

    Monday I can EAT!

I really wished I liked yogurt. I have tried SO many flavors and they are all so tart at first that I don't even taste what flavor they are supposed to be life would be much easier if I could eat them!!!
  18. Ive always found a solid 45 minutes to an hour of hard exercise (think running, spinning, bootcamp rather than walking, zumba, recumbent bike) is necessary for wright loss. - and now maintenance. And i did find i lost weight totally unfilled. But thats nothing to do with starvation mode. Its because a diet made up of fruit, vegies and wholegrains has less calorues than one full of sliders like shakes, yogurt, Cookies ( the ultimate slider for me). But i could only keep it up for a few months, the temptation to eat up grew over time.

You're lucky....i cant have ANY solid food.. ALL LIQUIDS and i can only have two protein shakes a day.. .unlimited jello and popsicles (sugar free of course) and i can have a serving of yogurt, cottage cheese or milk up to three times a day and that's it for ten days. I started my diet today my surgery is on the 15th! Good luck!

    What are your portion sizes?

Tomorrow is 5 weeks and I can only eat 1 scrambled egg or table spoon of cottage cheese, or a table spoon of greek yogurt. I have no appetite or hunger pains so I just figure as long as I continue to drink my water and keep up my meal replacements and protein requirements rather not eat. as of May 9 had lost 40 pounds. haven't weighed myself again yet but I can tell how my shoes are starting to slide around that I have lost some more. everytime I try to eat something I regurgitate it. The way I am able to get my meal replacements in now is because I have a g-tube and will have one for 3 more weeks per my doctor. At first I was sad about having the g-tube but since i am also tired of the smell of the meal replacements. the only advantage i have is I can put meal replacements mixed with water only and crushed meds through my g-tube. Since I am meeting my protein and vitamin goals no need to eat. Think I am going to hate when my doctor says time to take tube out. hope by then I can deal with mixing the meal replacements with fruit to take the smell away.

    What are your portion sizes?

I think this surgery for everyone and myself is discovering how to use ur food as fuel instead of comfort. If ur body is hungry actually hungry u put fuel in it. I think everything's gonna click with u like mine has. I now go thru a grocery store in 20 mins and don't read lables bc I already know 90% unless it's new then I have to educate myself. I personally love salad. I will do like a vinegar dressing instead of cream based. One thing we have to watch tho is sprouts becareful with them they carry salmonella and u can get sick from em. I personally love them but I don't like praying to the toilet lol. Snacks for me I will do turkey pepperonis and string cheese I like those or I will do a small cup they look like yogurt cups of cottage cheese and I will put a few chunks of fresh pineapple on it with bannana.

    What are your portion sizes?

I am the same with the yogurt i can slowly eats a 4 oz cup yogurt with no issues. Thought it was strange but I guess it is probably normal. Thanks for sharing
  23. It's good to hear the liquids are helping. I just discovered something called keifer, it is a pro biotic (kinda like a yogurt smoothie) and has some live cultures in it. I am on a very strong antibiotic and it has helped to protect my stomach. Might be worth checking out, I got mine in the dairy section right beside yogurt. Dannon makes it, so does lifeway. I bought the lifeway, it was cheaper had more in it and came in more flavors. Maybe that will help to coat your stomach and also boot the immune system. ~Mandy

    Do you bake for family?

I didn't bake for probably a year after surgery. My husband was on board because he really wanted to be as helpful as he could with helping me on my weight loss journey. If he wanted a baked good, he went out somewhere and bought it. I do bake sometimes now (I'm almost seven years out) - but I use artificial sweeteners, use Greek yogurt or unsweetened applesauce to replace the fat, and use something like bran to replace part of the flour. And I usually add unflavored or vanilla protein powder, too.
