    Yay Me!!!

Woo Hoo! Love NSV's like this!

    Yay Me!!!

An awesome NSV for you! And before surgery even!!!
  3. I lost 70 pounds doing southbeach two years ago. I came to a revelation that might help you. Plus size clothing is different than regular sizes. I can wear plus sizes for a differentiation of like 20 pounds, but my skinny friends need new sizes within a 5~10 pound difference. You need to focus on other nsv. How do you feel? Can you sit more comfortably, say in an airplane seat? You're doing amazing, you will drop sizes shortly.
  4. I can still distinctly remember having that fear of not fitting in a desk at school going back as far as grade school. This is indeed a monumental NSV! Congrats!
  5. Yay!!! What an awesome NSV =) I am so happy for you!
  6. Today was a milestone for me... I have used a motorized chair off and on for 5 years ..but all day/every day (24/7) for the last 3 years...Reason: i have had 2 back surgeries (have some disc fused) & have arthritis in my back, hips and knees (to name a few) ...Doctor wants to replace both my knees, but that's another post. Since my WLS, i have tried to walk a bit everyday...at first, just around the island in the kitchen... Then from one end of the house to the other... Last Monday i added short, slow walks outside with my husband...(he would ride in my motorized chair in case i needed it). The walks gave me the confidence i needed... Today, when i woke up, i said, "lets see how long we can go today without using the chair." well, i went from 5:45am to 5 pm...i was so happy, i cried when i told my husband after he got home from work... (he thought i hurt myself...sweet man, so caring) Physically, I am very sore....but mentally i feel GREAT! Thank you for listening
  7. Really? NSV already? So I've been stuggling with the Protein powders, but I think I've got that whipped with the Isopure RTD. However, my husband made a comment about my jeans getting baggie last night so I thought tonight I might check my measurements since I hadn't checked them in 2-weeks Here goes. Neck 17 - 16-3/4 Waist 51 - 50 Hips 55 - 47...yeah, I lost 7 inches off my hips! So, with these numbers I decided to see if I could get into my old size 22 100% cotton Levis that I would not get rid of for the last 3 years. YEAH BABY! They fit!!!! With that great feeling I pulled a pair of 18's my sister-in-law gave me. First, I could never get them over my thighs. Not tonight! They are up and although I cannot button them, I was able to get them all the way on! I'm feeling frogy! :-) Oh, and down 8-lbs in 7-days. Woo Hoo!!!
  8. I am exactly 5 months post op today, and am doing great! I'm not the biggest loser, but my loss has been fairly steady and I'm happy. So far I'm down 64 pounds since surgery (105 total) and a total of 40 inches since surgery (including 7 from my waist). Still a ways to go to get to goal, but I'm committed for the long run. NSVs I am walking around 2 miles most days. Pre surgery, I could walk but was in pain from arthritis and tendinitis after a very small amount I went hiking last weekend and did 6 miles pretty easily I've outgrown pretty much all my old clothes, even the "small" ones from storage My arthritis pain is significantly lower than it was I am not exhausted and falling asleep on the couch in the evening. (when we are allowed, I'd feel good enough to go out and do things on weeknights) I have my 6 month appt (via phone) in about 3 weeks and I'll get my blood work done before that, but I think things should be well since I'm doing well with food, fluid, and vitamins.

    So Freakin Psyched!

I guess this is a combination of a fitness post & a NSV. Did a 5K on Sunday, well, my version of "wogging" .... a combination of fast walking and slow jogging. Managed to not only PR with a time of just under 40 minutes, but it was also my very first sub 13minute mile pace!!!! Ok, ok, not MUCH under a 13mm, but it started with a 12 and that is all that matters, right!?!?! Yay me!

    Nsv How I Love Thee!!

What is NSV? Still new to all of this.

    When did people notice?

Ditto ... People on BP claim they see a huge change in my photos two months apart. I fail to see anything in the pics. My NSVs, OTOH, give me a smile ... trouser waist down from 152cm to 138cm (or 60" to 54"). My body fat down from 47.8% to 42.6%. My lung capacity up from 18 seconds holding breath to 44 seconds. Was walking with a cane for support in June. Not using a cane now as my exercise extends past two hours per day. (Exercising 13 days per TWO WEEKS!) Averaging 22500 steps/strokes on the Vivofit 3 wristband daily in December ... up from 3500 in September!
  12. I accidently uploaded my current progress photo to facebook. My friends and family wrote such nice things about how I look, it made my day! I decided to print it out so when I have a bad day I can read about what a hot smoking mama I am...hahaha. It is like taking the compliments you get while losing weight and bottling them up to use when I need them.
  13. So, I went to our city rec center today to play some racquetball with an old friend. I had to give it up several years ago because my knees suck and they just couldn't handle the quick starts and stops. I had to renew my ID card. The gal asked me if I wanted to take a new picture and I said naw, I'm good with the one I have on my old ID. She said, "You should, you lost a lot of weight". WOO HOO! Gotta love it! tmf

    My First Nsv(Non-Scale-Victory)

Congrats to you! That is an awesome NSV
  15. Renee, How close are you to TOM? Lots of ladies notice a couple of pound increase just before because we are retaining Water, then most see a loss immediately afterwards. That three week stall is a booger, isn't it!? I was so worried about mine, but just kept doing the water, doing the Protein, and then I had a big drop, 4 or 5 pounds, IIRC. I hit another one at the end of my 2nd month/beginning of the 3rd month, so I upped my walking and gained a pound. My regular doc told me that I wouldn't lose until I backed off the walking for a few days. I rolled my eyes when he told me that muscle weighs more than fat, but he's right. And, during that second stall, I lost inches in a hurry! That's when I dropped the second pants size, so always check your measurements when you stall on the scale. Also, always look for those NSV's (non scale victories). I've had tons of them lately and I make sure to keep my eyes open for them. Something as simple as being able to slide into a booth in a restaurant will thrill me, although I might not say anything to my dining companions. I was thrilled to be able to buy a belt...and then it was too big the first time I wore it! I had to adjust my car seat because I not longer need to sit way to one side so that the seat belt latch doesn't dig into my tush. Those are all somewhat silly, but they are the things that make me go YEAH! Good luck to you all!
  16. Congrats on your NSV!!!!!!! I can't wait till someone calls me skinny!
  17. And it didn't take an amazing amount of effort to swing my leg over my other. It didn't feel like my legs were going numb for holding them in that position. It was amazing and made me feel like such a "normal" woman.

Unexpected NSV - I'll take it!

Whoop, there she goes! That is funny! I totally get your CAT5 remark, because I feel that way sometimes too, what an amazing NSV, you go Madame R, you are an inspiration to us pre-op'ers!
  19. Hello! My name is Jennifer. I am 39 years old and I'm a happily married mom to 5 children. I am 5 ft tall and weight 270. My BMI is 53. I have tried to lose weight for years but I keep gaining. I have thought about wls for years but have always been afraid. My sister in law got a sleeve about a year ago and has lost over 100 lbs. she looks awesome and says its the best thing she ever did. So, I've been researching and have decided to do it. I have an appointment with her surgeon on September 11. I have the same insurance as she has b/c our husbands work at the same place. So I know they cover the surgery but there are requirements I have to meet. I have BCBS of WV. I guess I probably won't be able to have surgery for 6 months or so because of the required diet. So I'm kind of bummed. At the same time, I'm scared! I've been reading a LOT of posts on here and have been brought to tears at some of your progress and NSVs. I'm so happy for you and sad for the person I have become. I cannot wait until I am less than 200 lbs... And to think I might wear a size 8 again is almost unbelievable! I'm scared of surgery still but I think NOT having the surgery is probably scarier! I know myself though and I'm worried I will freak out at the last minute and chicken out. I know I have a few months to prepare but just wanted to introduce myself and become a part of the community. :-)

@@Inner Surfer Girl This is a wonderful and enjoyable NSV. Very happy for you Congratulations!
  22. I noticed a few NSVs last night/this morning, and I'm just so happy I had to share. So, here they are. 1) I had to tighten the strap on the mask for my CPAP 2) I've noticed that I've started taking better care of myself and have generally been feeling happier 3 (and my favorite)) Today as I was leaving for work, my husband hugs me and said, "You've lost so much weight, I can hug you more completely". Guys. He can finally get his arms the whole way around me. I have been smiling about this all day.

    One Year Bandiversary

One Year Bandiversary Well, I’m about here. Next Friday will be my one year mark since receiving the band. <O:p</O:p In this first year, I achieved 77% of my weight loss goal, going from 307 to 244 pounds, for a total loss of 63 pounds, leaving 19 more to go. The weight loss period is not over yet. Since I still have up to 2 years of potential weight loss left to go, I am confident I will get that last 19 pounds off, and realistically, had I followed all of the Bandster rules religiously, I am sure I would have already taken those pounds off, too. <O:p</O:p How did the year go? I went from abject terror prior to surgery, full of fear from reading the various threads and claims about successes and failures, to an immediate sense that “everything would be alright” on the morning that I awoke from my really, not very invasive surgery. Sure, the incision from my port hurt a lot for the first two weeks. And the nausea I experienced for the first 10 was so monumental, that the memory still stays with me. But after that initial recovery period, I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to receive this life saving device. <O:p</O:p Other than the occasional bout of having food that I shouldn’t eat, or that I ate to fast, come back up, I don’t have any side effects at all. <O:p</O:p How did life get better, and what are those NSV’s that are always asked for at the one year mark? I have had many, many more than the ones listed below, but here are the ones that come to mind: <O:p</O:p 1) My wife and I delivered a healthy baby boy 2) My blood pressure went from around 154/100 to about 121 over 75 3) My pulse went from an average of 110 to about 65-70 4) My painful, swollen feet which were so bad that I couldn’t walk in the morning, are no longer swollen or painful. In fact, they’re just fine. 5) My shortness of breath, which left me red and stressed and gasping after walking only a few blocks, is completely gone. Now when I go running with my dog, the dog runs out of energy well before I do. 6) As my weight fell away, my physicality picked up to the point that I am much more active in my favorite sports, (i.e. karate, skiing, walking and running.) I can ski for 6 hours straight, and the only reason I get off the runs, is because the lifts close, not because my legs are tired, and not because I can’t breathe. Now I am planning on rock climbing, hiking, and biking. I would have never considered this before, and now I really look forward to it. In fact, I feel like I have to do it, because my other exercises seem to fall short in terms of trying to get my heart rate up, and trying to really get a good workout. 7) My knees no longer hurt. 8) At night, I used to gasp, and feel like I was suffocating. I had to lean up in bed in order to breathe. I used to snore really loud, and my dear wife just had to deal with it. Now, I don’t snore, and I don’t have any problem sleeping at night. In fact, I probably went from the worst, loudest snorer in my whole family, to the least, if at all. 9) My waist dropped from a tight 46 to a tight 36. My shirt size went from an XXXL to an XL. I can now go to any store, and am still flummoxed when I select clothes, that I pick it from the MIDDLE of the range of sizes, rather than searching for ANYTHING that might be big enough for me. It also means I can now buy a pair of walking shorts at costco for $15 rather than paying $65 for an inferior quality pair at the big and tall store. I can go swimming with my kids now and be seen with my shirt off, and not feel embarrassed. 10) My friends and co-workers tell me that I have never looked better. Old friends know that I look better now than I did 25 years ago. <O:p</O:p Most of all, I look forward to what I hope will be a longer, healthier life, that I can share with my family. And it just keeps getting better. <O:p</O:p My thanks to Doctor Layton Alldrege at the Sandy Medical Center</ST1:p, and to Vivienne Sullivan, his fill nurse, and the rest of his team. He has the most amazing practice, staff, and follow-through. I am thankful that I was fortunate enough to have chosen him and to receive his care.

    Trying to figure this out

Looks like I need to be baaaad (*make that sound like a sheep*). I think I can stretch to be naughty just to break this plateau. I was having my own pity party last night thinking that I am probably in a spot where I have been many times before. In the past when I have been on diets I have always lost around the same weight or got to a certain time after starting, only to let the bad habits creep back in again. I have eaten small portions of chocolate occasionally, not enough to have not lost and not gained weight though! I think without knowingly have done it, I have become bored with it all.. But now I don't know the funk I am in! I am having difficulty moving beyond the head hunger stage now. However, food no longer rules my life and that's my most important NSV so far. Today I had porridge and a banana for breaky, 100g tin tuna and a cucumber with 200g yoghurt and probably some spag bol for dinner before I go to netball. I think this is still too much, as I am still hungry with a small amount of resriction. What do you think?
