Hi! Wow, 7-10 years is a long time! I had my sleeve done with Dr. David Starr in Toronto...but through provincial insurance, so I didn't really pick him, he was assigned to me, and had no complaints. He's lovely. I don't know what his wait times would be for self-pay, though...I'm assuming it would be quicker, so long as his case load is not too heavy.

post op wound pain and weight gain
Crick replied to punte's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I weighed 10 lbs more when I got home from the hospital 2 days after surgery! But by 1 week post-op, I had lost that plus another 8 lbs! Be sure to drink your fluids and it will come off, I promise. I echo Sue about the pain - call your surgeon. -
How much weight did you lose the first 90 days ?
Texas Pete replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started a period diet with on dec 4 at 329.5 on the day of surgery Jan 25 i was 300. Now on feb 19 I am at 273.2. So 56 lbs total. I’ve been losing 3-5lbs a week post op. Small portions is key for me. Did stop taking blood pressure medicine as it was making me light headed when i stood up. BP is maintaining normal. -
I got WLS on 2/10 and I quickly started quitting big itching red areas around the incisions and I’m not on day 9 or 10 post op and it got worse I’m allergic to the glue I took it off like the doctor told me and put cold compress but I’m afraid of the mark it could leave. The one thing I loved about WLS is the small incisions now I have big red spots of allergic reaction on all of them.

February 2021 bypassers?
Orig Ironman replied to TreeTrunks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello everyone, I had my surgery 1/28. So today I started my soft food phase, eggs for breakfast, turkey slices for lunch with apple sauce. Dinner was some chicken strifry. It was great to eat again and funny to be full after 8 or 10 bites. Just reminding everyone that the restricted diets do end and things return to slightly normal. The end result is worth it to be down so much weight. Good luck on everyone's upcoming surgeries. -

This pic is not from today, but from 1/10/21. My sis was recovering from Covid on Xmas, so we had to postpone it until then. This is me, down 75 lbs. and 5 sizes. I feel great, and it was good to get dressed in something other than sweatpants. Hubby did a "photo-shoot" when we got back home. The sweater was given to me as a Xmas gift from my parents. I am Greek/Egyptian, and I love all things Greek Key print.

This Pre-op diet is a b$@!:

I am on the 10th day of my liquid diet. I have to do 2 weeks. Surgery is Tuesday the 23rd. I am fed up with broths so I have moved onto orange Power Ade Zero. Mixed with my protein powder it tastes just like an orange creamsicle. The sugar free popsicles I have too but they taste tart to me. Good luck on your journey. The smell of food will be overwhelming for you but then the thought of eating it will disgust you and then you will feel SO proud of yourself!! In 10 days I am down 23.6 pounds!! -

February 2021 Sleeve Surgery
ashd13 replied to LifelongJourney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you don’t mind me asking why was yours postponed? I always have abnormal ekgs for everything. I’ve been to a cardiologist many times and they say my heart is fine. Now the ekg is showing changes and they did not make me see one prior and waited until now to tell me. I have a family history of heart disease as my dad died from a heart attack but I am still fairly young. I know that doesn’t mean anything. For now I am just frustrated. I had the lapband for 10 years and did so well with it and had it removed in an emergency surgery right before covid. Between those two things and losing my job I put on a lot of weight in a year. It’s a discouraging situation right now. -

Food Before and After Photos

WOWWWWWWWW! That came out absolutely perfect!! Seriously! You can really tell the meat is super soft, and that skin .... my mouth is watering just thinking about it 🤤🤤 Using pineapple on the pork reminds me of Cuban style pernil where they use sour oranges. I need to try making one this way! Was it sweet? But you're right, its a ton of work just because you have to keep an eye on it. I believe the last time I made one I through it in the oven covered for 7 hours and then uncovered for about 3 so I can only Imagine what 19 hours did to it ❤️ Cant wait to see how the estofado de res comes out! -
How much weight did you lose the first 90 days ?
mae7365 replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a sleeve to bypass revision and I've lost 40 pounds since my bypass surgery on 10/29/20 (17 weeks post-op). Since my surgery was for GERD and not officially bariatric, I didn't have as much to lose to get to my goal weight. But I want to lose a few pounds more just to give myself some "wiggle" room once I'm past the honeymoon period. I know that weight gain is possible, and very likely probable, after the 1st year. I wasn't really prepared for maintenance after my sleeve surgery in 2014 and gained almost 50 lbs. in the 6 years following surgery. I want to be better prepared to maintain a normal weight since I've been given a second chance to truly change my relationship with food! -

HI Everyone New to this But so glad I found it because I’m all alone on this road. I lost 10 Lbs pre-op and I’m at 8 weeks since surgery, phase 5 on the food plan. I’ve lost 55 lbs total up to now but I’m just moving from 2 oz to 3 oz of food 3X a day so let’s see how it affects it. -

Did you have to pay anything with insurance?
Chantrella replied to Chantrella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update for everyone my coordinator called me today to ask if I knew how much I had to pay for surgery at my pre-op. I told her yes 10% of the procedure since so am in coinsurance phase. She told me that didn’t sound right and to call the hospital they would know for sure. So the hospital said I have the best insurance because all I pay is 300.00 everything else is covered. A little lost I called my insurance asked to speak to someone high up and they too confirmed only 300.00. Like wow! I haven’t even met my out of pocket yet. So thankful I decided to get the more expensive policy for 20 extra bucks a month. -
I also had a revision from sleeve(early 2017) to bypass (dec 2020) due to GERD and some weight regain. Happy to say that I no longer have GERD. I’m just over 10 weeks post op and I’ve lost 20kg. May be ‘slower’ then some but I’m so so happy with this progress. Slow and steady :)

Lost 26 lbs in the pre-op liquid diet phase, then post-op: 26lbs in 30 days, 44 lbs in 60 days and 63 lbs in 90 days. It then slowed down from there.... I lose some 8-10 lbs per month now. -

How much weight did you lose the first 90 days ?
Guest replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Tim! I lost 19 lbs in the pre-op month. I'm 76 days out from surgery, lost 68 lbs since then for a total of 87. I was heavier than you, so that's definitely a big part of it though Edit: sorry, you asked for sleeve specifically. You guys drop as much as us in the beginning, though, so it's all the same -
Thanks so much! Deep down I know it's for the best and that missing food shouldn't be a barrier to get this done. I'm glad your journey has been a good and thanks again for the recommendations! I follow people who are pretty much new into the journey but I haven't seen much people commenting about their journey after 6-10 years but I know there must be some out there!

I used to have curves in all the "right" places before I started teaching. I gained about 10 pounds each year and have been teaching for 9 years now! I am really excited to lose weight. My breast are HUGE now and I hate them! BUT I really don't want to lose all my curves. Anyone tips/tricks/ or stories anyone wants to share?

Hi! I totally forgot about this thread, I used to post on it regularly, thx for reviving it! Anyone have ideas for greater calories per ounce, without resorting to junk food, until I can accommodate more volume? When I reached goal, I stressed about stopping weight loss...it was a bit of a challenge (both mental and physical) to change modes to get more calories in. I didn't want to up my carbs, nor eat "junk food". And my restriction didn't really allow more volume. So I resorted to avocados, nuts & nut butters, full-fat everything, olive oil. I also ate alot of chicharron (i.e., pork rinds/cracklings), yeah, its not the "healthiest" and is really high in fat, but its relatively high in protein, was sorta a slider for me, and I wasn't worried about my fat macros (I never really was). It took me about 3 months to figure out what my maintenance cals were, and I lost a further 10+ lbs in the process. What are you maintainers' macro mix? I'm currently about 40% carb, 25% protein, 35% fat. At 1900 calories, that's 190g carbs, 119g protein, 74g fat. Or do you not track macros so closely in maintenance? During weight loss phase I did ultra-low carb (i.e., less than 25g NET carbs a day), 60g protein, and let the fat fall where it may so long as I was below my calorie goal. In the very beginning maintenance, I still aimed for 60g protein, and allowed myself 50g NET carbs. Now at 2+ years out, my carbophobia has greatly decreased, and I only care about total calories. I do try to reach 60g of protein, but I only probably reach it 60-70% of the time. Any thoughts from those more experienced than me would be appreciated. Ok, the following is just my opinion/experience, and may not be for everyone, but it is what it is: I don't consider myself a vet yet, as i'm only a little over 2 years out, so this may bite me in the ass later, but so for it works for me. YMMV. I've come to the realization that the ingestion of carbohydrates makes little difference in weight (for ME). What it does do is make a difference in how I look. When I am low carb-ing, I look leaner. This is good for my body cuz I can see more muscle definition, but bad for my face, as I look skeletor-ish. In terms of weight, all that matters (for ME) is total calories. Regardless of what my diet consists of, so long as I stay around 1800 calories (given my current activity level). I will not gain nor lose weight. Of course, If I eat 1800 cals of butter tarts all day, I may not gain weight, but I'm sure I would be doing some sort of damage to my overall health. With that said, i do eat "junk". Not in such large amounts as pre-surgery, but junk nonetheless (I also eat "healthy" stuff of course), but I prefer to keep my cals at 1800-ish no matter what I'm eating. My restriction is still alive and kicking (as is my dumping response) so I don't really eat a lot at a time. BUT I can definitely pack more in than I did when I had just reached goal (which was VERY little). I've been maintaining my current weight (give or take 5 lbs) for about 1.5 years. P.S. my latest labs (taken in November last year) came back satisfactorily, so I must be doing something right. 🤷🏽♀️ P.P.S. sorry this was so long
