  1. Hi- just wondering if you didn’t experience the infamous 3 week stall, when did it show up? And I’ve read it can last 1-3 weeks. Any variations on that out there?

    Manage Sleep Apnea

I’m 3 weeks post op for RNY and had moderate sleep apnea, using a cpap for 2-3 years. I no longer snore according to my light sleeping husband! It’s really odd but even my nasal breathing and air intake is smooth and silent. I still keep the machine in case but down 40 lbs since pre op diet and the apnea has vanished. What prompted me to remove my head gear one night was my discomfort from surgery and getting up to use the bathroom etc. one night I forgot to put the head gear back on and woke refreshed. I asked my husband if he’d heard me snore and he said no. The second night was an experiment- silent as the snow! - and I’ve not gone back to using it as long as I’m not snoring and waking feeling fresh.

Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs

I am 4'10" and my high weight was 245; I was 220 on the day of surgery. After six weeks I had lost about 40 pounds. It took me 13 months to reach my goal weight of 110; I am now attempting to maintain but apparently I am not eating enough because I've managed to shrink my way down to "nonederland" at 97 pounds, and I'd really like to gain about 8 pounds and get back to 105. The biggest period of loss I had outside the first 30 days was around the spring following my surgery as I finally had that "burst of energy" and became MUCH more active, mostly by riding my motorcycle which is a surprisingly good workout on the arms and core! I lost 50 pounds between May and October last year.
  4. I just got word that Syntrax Roadside Lemonade is BACK IN STOCK!! We will have it available for purchase at The BariatricPal Store within the next week.

Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs

Ah, this is probably the difference. I'm on real foods and have been since week 5. I'm low carb, but I am on a regular diet. And yeah, I've got 20 years on ya, lol.

    Mental breakdown

Yep. Went through the same thing last week. It gets better, but man, it sucks in the middle of it. Communicate with your at home support. My husband had a hard time knowing how to respond. Plus, he was really overwhelmed already from the extra responsibility on his shoulders. We've since talked through it, and have come to a great understanding.

    Mental breakdown

normal. Many women experience weird hormone-related things the first few weeks or months after surgery (screwed up menstrual cycles and emotional weirdnesses). This is supposedly because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and during rapid weight loss, that estrogen is released. It'll eventually stabilize and you'll be fine..

@irreverentgamer I understand where you are....but you will be fine & do great! I was the same way...and my BP showed it😳🤕 but now I am 1 week post surgery. Praying for you & can't wait to hear about your success.
  10. They brought manufacturing in-house and it’s been taking them longer to get things going. All flavors will be available within the next few weeks.
  11. Does anyone know when Syntrax Nectar Protein Powder will be available, specifically the roadside lemonade flavor. It has been out for several weeks, maybe a month or more? I noticed that other flavors are out, too. I am wondering if the company is having supply issues, or if it’s being discontinued.
  12. I went to buy new shirts for work last week because the ones I bought two months ago became baggy and loose. I started with size "M" first which was still big and finally got size "S" slim fit shirts which fit me like a glove haha. I've never thought that this would be possible 🤣. Here is me in my new size "s" shirt and 31" pants. I need to lose some more weight from my thighs.
  13. How long should I expect my abdominal area to be swollen? I also find that it swells throughout the day. For example, I put on my jeans in the morning, and they fit great. By the afternoon, they are tight. Same with the band on my bra. My RNY was May 1st, so almost 2 weeks.

    May 2023 surgeries

I definitely gained weight. When I left the hospital, I was still 5 pounds more than before surgery. With all the liquid.s they pumped into me, and being bloated like crazy, it was pretty obvious. But a week and a half later, I have lost almost 20 pounds from that point, and dropping fast.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

I had my sleeve done on March 22. Also had a 3cm hiatal hernia repair at the same time. About 7-8 weeks out. Food tastes different sometimes and the vitamins make my stomach ache.
  16. Congrats! I’ve only lost 24 lbs at 6 weeks!! Why!?

    Manage Sleep Apnea

like someone above, I was also diagnosed with mild sleep apnea during my pre-surgery sleep study. The technician (or whoever it was who called me with the results) suggested that I get a CPAP machine, but when I mentioned it to the PA at my bariatric center, he said it was up to me, but it was pretty likely the sleep apnea would be gone after I'd lost about 20 lbs or so. I didn't have a repeat study after losing the first 20 lbs, but I was in a research study a few months post-surgery that involved three sleep studies (they were studying brain waves), and the pulmonologist who ran one of the studies told me I did not have sleep apnea. So yea - my weight loss "cured" it.
  18. I'm 6 weeks out and have asked my doctor the very same thing!!! He said it was a major surgery and it can take "awhile." I'm a little disappointed in that answer because I feel like a bump on a log. Doing simple things is draining and I feel so foggy all of the time. I'm supposed to study for boards but I feel like I can barely think straight! I'm sorry you're experiencing this but I'm glad you mentioned it because I thought I was going crazy!
  19. It sounds to me like you are severely dehydrated. Did they give you fluids in the hospital? About two weeks after my surgery, I developed metabolic ketoacidosis, high heart rate and was admitted. They gave me what they called a banana bag of fluids and nutrients. Severe dehydration can cause your high heart rate, vomiting, and diarrhea. Your high heart rate can also be atrial flutter brought on by dehydration. I had that, and the heart rate that is approximately double normal is a key symptom. As Jeanniebug points out, you should also be checked for blood clots and a CT scan for leakage. I was checked for both while admitted. They thought they saw a small clot, and I was placed on blood thinners as a precaution. Please get with your team ASAP and get this checked. Your team should have someone on call from their answering service. Mine did, and I was admitted on a Saturday. Be persistent. Consider the ER if required. Lastly, don’t worry about stool color as you go through a rainbow until your system settles and you get into a normal routine.

    Manage Sleep Apnea

My snoring changed 5 days after surgery I barely snored. From snoring over 60% of the night I now snore 10 minutes max a night and I’m only 2.5 weeks post op. It’s some kind of miracle I’ve only lost 19lb so far! You won’t need it in the future it will only improve!

  22. Very common. Your digestive system is pretty sensitive & will be for a while while you are healing. (Just like a cut is sore & tender for a while healing but this is on a much bigger scale.) You will be swollen internally too. Expect some quirky & unexpected random reactions to eating & drinking for a few weeks. Try warm drinks as cool/cold drinks can make your tender tummy cramp/spasm. Warm drinks are often more soothing.
  23. I’m 10 weeks post op have lost 45lbs. I started surgery at 200lbs and am currently 155lbs. I’m 5 feet tall.
  24. Sorry for signing up and then immediately posting something TMI. I've been lurking for a while but signed up to ask/vent about this issue, since my bariatrics office is closed on weekends and I can't talk to my surgeon until Monday. So I had my sleeve done on the 2nd of this month. All went swimmingly. This past Monday I had my one week post-op and again, everything went swimmingly -- except for my pulse. My pulse measured 143 and I was admitted to the ER and eventually placed inpatient as it was determined I'd developed acute metabolic acidosis. Okay, that's my bad, thought I'd been consuming enough water but I guess not. Once my bicarbonate levels were normal again I was discharged, on Thursday. My issue started after that. Since coming home, I've been struck with severe nausea and stomach cramps, and since last night have been vomiting and having diarrhea frequently. I can't drink anything, and I've been trying desperately to keep hydrated through this. Any time I drink, within five minutes it's leaving my body again. And, to be extra TMI, the diarrhea is... yellow. As if there's excess fat in the stool. Which there shouldn't be, since all I consume is water and... well, protein water. I tried OTC medicine like Kaopectate, but it didn't help at all. I was wondering if I'd picked something up while in the hospital, but if it was bacterial, Kaopectate should've helped right? All the way leading up to surgery I was told over and over about preventing constipation, so this is kinda the last thing I expected lol. Has anyone else dealt with this after having a sleeve? Did you find any way to alleviate it? I'll be talking to my doctor on Monday (and crossing my fingers I won't have to go back in the hospital for a third time this month...) but man I'm really not looking forward to another day of going back and forth between the toilet and the bed.
  25. Five-week follow-up for gastric bypass and now on lifetime food plan. No restrictions.  In all that time I was fortunate to get sick only one time, week 1, on Easter. Chicken broth...go figure.
