  1. I did not have a stall at 3 weeks and honestly have not had one yet and I'm a few days away from 6 months. My weight loss has been slower compared to my group (the people I had surgery with on the same day, from same surgeon), but it has been a steady 8-10lbs per month and I'm good with that. I do have to say I travel about once a month and during those times I make the best out of the food choices (sometimes willingly don't lol), so my slower weight loss can be attributed to it too. Stalls are normal and part of the process, so I understand that one will hit eventually.

    Food funerals

You have been so successful in the preop, congratulations! I did not have a food funeral, I did eat out once due to a birthday but I only ate 1/3 of the meal. I do feel sometimes if you taste something you have not had in a while, you may get cravings so I just try to avoid the trigger food. You have been doing it for 6 months now, and although I think you may have missed some of the food, it was not strong enough to deter you of your goal. I would keep doing what you are doing and hit your personal goal. Also note that because of the amount of weight you have lost prior to the surgery, your first few weeks may be slower while you are recovering, so you would have a head start on your weight loss journey.
  3. I've read on here that being cold all the time can happen for some, but this early? I'm just over 2 weeks out, and I'm freezing all the time. I sleep in my winter slipper socks and a fleece shirt, and I'm still cold. Blankets on all day. Heat turned on in the car. Is this normal this early?

    2 1/2 Weeks Away

I completely understand how you're feeling right now, just a few weeks away from your surgery. It's been a long journey for you, with research, funding, and changing options along the way. It's natural to have doubts and worries when you see others experiencing complications or when logistical challenges arise. But it's wonderful that you found a new surgeon and that you're now scheduled for surgery. Even though there have been reschedules and unexpected hurdles, it's important to stay positive and focus on the fact that you're making progress towards your goal. I can imagine the mix of excitement and disbelief you're experiencing. It can be hard to fully believe that this life-changing surgery is about to happen. However, you've gone through all the necessary steps, received clearance from different tests, and had your psych consultation. These are all significant milestones that bring you closer to your surgery date. As you navigate the challenges of balancing college classes and family responsibilities, remember that you're stronger than you think. It's not uncommon for life to throw us curveballs, but you have the determination and resilience to overcome them. Try to embrace a positive mindset and visualize waking up from surgery with your sleeve. Visualizing your desired outcome can help you feel more confident and prepared for the journey ahead. Remember, you've come a long way, and this surgery is the next step towards a healthier and happier future. Stay focused on your goals, trust in your medical team, and believe in yourself. Soon enough, you'll wake up from surgery with your sleeve, ready to embark on a new chapter in your life.
  5. @Possum220 @Blessd1 hi new friends, I’ve spoken to my surgeon’s secretary and vented my frustrations. No reply! my appointment is tomorrow with my surgeon so I’m going to show him everything plus the fact I’ve lost nearly 5 stones in 13 weeks is too fast! I am providing him with my food diary and fluid diary for the last 4 weeks too. It does not make for happy reading BUT typically over the last 3-4 days I seem to be more comfortable. I’ve been to the toilet every day and opened my bowels properly. I’ve had nausea and tummy pain but not as severe so I’m out of bed today. I’ve managed to get on top of household duties and paperwork (mummy’s work is never done). my flu attack seems to have eased so I feel better. drinking is upto 1000ml per day. I can’t eat regularly and one small meal is all I can manage a day but it’s stated down and not caused agony. I really hope this is it, I’ve had an awful recovery and now things will run more smoothly. Fingers crossed 🥰🥰🥰🥰 how are you getting on? im desperate for some tasty recipes - know any flavoursome healthy recipes? X

Puking my guts out today :(

I couldn't have eaten steak at six weeks out - it would have been too hard on my stomach. I'd stick with softer foods for awhile longer. Maybe things like canned tuna, flaky fish or ground meats.

Puking my guts out today :(

Thanks for your reply, Arabesque. Funny thing is, I had the same exact meal yesterday with no ill effect. Started out as thick food sludge. Foamies happened towards the end, then I was fine. It just scared me how long it took to clear and be able to drink water again. Hours. And yes, I was cleared to eat fresh fruit and veggies including skins at 5-week follow-up with nutritionist but I'm going back to soft foods for a while after this fiasco. No reason to rush it. Thanks again.

    May 2023 surgeries

Hi Ladies, my surgery is May 22. My first doctors visit was only 2 months ago (March 23rd). I had no idea that it would be this quick. Ish just got real…now I’m nervous as heck! I went to my pre-surgical class today. I start my 1-week liquid diet tomorrow. 🙏🏽 😊

    S L O W Weight-loss 2 Months Out

Some people are slow losers & some are fast. Nothing wrong or right about how fast or slow you lose. You’ll find lots of stats about weight loss but they are just averages & will give you an idea of what you might experience not what you definitely will experience. But 21lbs in about 5 weeks isn’t slow. Excluding your initial 7lbs, you’re averaging about 3lbs a week. That’s about what I lost & my surgeon & dietician were happy with my progress. Don’t know what your starting weight was but were you expecting to lose 40 & 50lbs in your first month? That only happens for those who began at very high weights like on My 600lb Life. Oh & how fast or slow you lose doesn’t affect how much you lose. You’ll be fine. Just stick to your plan.
  10. I started my journey in December and I am less then 3 weeks until my surgery date. My program requires you to lose a certain percentage of body weight before surgery. My surgery goal was 21 pounds and so far I’ve been able to lose 43. Now I’m so close to surgery day and I have this overwhelming desire to eat all my favorite crappy foods one last time. Yes I know eventually down the road you can indulge from time to time. I realize that it’s not like I will never get to eat pizza ever again. I also really want to lose another 7 pounds to hit 50 before surgery. 50 pounds before surgery was a personal goal I had set for myself. I need a way to shut off the part of my brain that wants to eat all the junk in the next few weeks.
  11. On a regular diet now at 6 weeks post op and up to this point avoided getting sick. Today that changed. I had leftover grilled steak and a bit of baked sweet potato, plain. I stopped when I felt the restriction. Waited 30 minutes to sip water and the pain. Uhhh! Immediately threw up. Thought great.. got rid of it. Sipped again.. pain. Threw up. That's been going on for the past 6 hrs. It's almost like my pouch's stoma was blocked and the water just kept backing up so I continued to try drinking, hoping to bring up the obstruction. Finally water is going down so have to play catch up. Don't want to dehydrate. So is it possible to block the stoma with steak or potato skin or food in general? Will the food eventually just pass or has anyone here ever had to have food fished out before? I did eat slowly, took small bites and thoroughly chewed. Lesson learned though... just because I can eat it doesn't mean I should. I'm swearing off heavy meats for a long while... cuz that really sucked and was a bit scary. 🤢
  12. I started at 209 and weighed 201 the day of surgery. Today I am 8 weeks post, 5’3” and 183. So I’ve only lost 18lbs since surgery day (26 since I started). Like you, I feel like it’s going super slow. My body is sensitive to EVERYTHING. If I don’t poop on schedule, I stall. If I don’t drink enough water or get enough protein or get a cold, I stall. If I have artificial sweeteners, I stall. I suppose one good thing is that my skin has a chance to bounce back. I’ve not been to the gym, but I haven’t been sedentary either. Just have to keep at it and make sure I’m measuring everything. Hope to get to my first goal soon (170). Crossing fingers.
  13. My doc advised me to cut back on my B-12 to once a week. The problem is I have several bottles of the bariatric pal one a day multivitamins that have 1000 bit B-12 included. I will need to take a different multivitamin. Does anyone have any suggestions on any bariatric vitamins that don’t have the B-12 included? I appreciate your feedback! 🙂

    May 2023 surgeries

I was there last week. I almost cried. Find a tv show, take a walk, eat a popsicle..it will pass.
  15. I am just curious.... I had VSG on 03/09/2023. This is supposed to be the HONEYMOON PHASE! But I am turtle losing. Doing all the right things. Eating my calorie limit, hitting water and protein goals. I have lost 21lbs since 03/09, seven of those pounds was the first week after surgery. Anyone else a turtle loser too?
  16. I had my surgery 10/4/2022 and my surgeon is amazing! The whole team at the office is great and very helpful. Dr. Semeret Munie was my surgeon and now I mostly see the nurse practitioner, Kelly Columbus-Kline who is amazing as well. Dr. Munie made all the right calls when it came to my care and helping me select the right surgery for me. I was approved for gastric bypass until my pre-op day the week before I was scheduled. At that appointment we chose to change my procedure to gastric sleeve because my iron levels were so low she was afraid I may become infusion dependent on iron. I'm glad she didn't go ahead with the bypass and paid attention to my bloodwork so closely! The person I've had the most contact with through classes, appointments, and support groups is the dietician, Marsha Copley. She has been SO helpful and has helped me feel less guilty about being human regarding some of the choices I've made and has definitely steered me in the right direction with her guidance. I love them all so much. I didn't see any posts about Dr. Munie on here so I wanted to write one so that people can find this information about them.
  17. I am sure there are people who didn't but I feel like the majority of us did stall between weeks 2-5.
  18. Hi- just wondering if you didn’t experience the infamous 3 week stall, when did it show up? And I’ve read it can last 1-3 weeks. Any variations on that out there?

    Manage Sleep Apnea

I’m 3 weeks post op for RNY and had moderate sleep apnea, using a cpap for 2-3 years. I no longer snore according to my light sleeping husband! It’s really odd but even my nasal breathing and air intake is smooth and silent. I still keep the machine in case but down 40 lbs since pre op diet and the apnea has vanished. What prompted me to remove my head gear one night was my discomfort from surgery and getting up to use the bathroom etc. one night I forgot to put the head gear back on and woke refreshed. I asked my husband if he’d heard me snore and he said no. The second night was an experiment- silent as the snow! - and I’ve not gone back to using it as long as I’m not snoring and waking feeling fresh.

Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs

I am 4'10" and my high weight was 245; I was 220 on the day of surgery. After six weeks I had lost about 40 pounds. It took me 13 months to reach my goal weight of 110; I am now attempting to maintain but apparently I am not eating enough because I've managed to shrink my way down to "nonederland" at 97 pounds, and I'd really like to gain about 8 pounds and get back to 105. The biggest period of loss I had outside the first 30 days was around the spring following my surgery as I finally had that "burst of energy" and became MUCH more active, mostly by riding my motorcycle which is a surprisingly good workout on the arms and core! I lost 50 pounds between May and October last year.
  21. I just got word that Syntrax Roadside Lemonade is BACK IN STOCK!! We will have it available for purchase at The BariatricPal Store within the next week.

Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs

Ah, this is probably the difference. I'm on real foods and have been since week 5. I'm low carb, but I am on a regular diet. And yeah, I've got 20 years on ya, lol.

    Mental breakdown

Yep. Went through the same thing last week. It gets better, but man, it sucks in the middle of it. Communicate with your at home support. My husband had a hard time knowing how to respond. Plus, he was really overwhelmed already from the extra responsibility on his shoulders. We've since talked through it, and have come to a great understanding.

    Mental breakdown

normal. Many women experience weird hormone-related things the first few weeks or months after surgery (screwed up menstrual cycles and emotional weirdnesses). This is supposedly because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and during rapid weight loss, that estrogen is released. It'll eventually stabilize and you'll be fine..
