So I had a protein shake and it was about 8 ounces and took me about an hour to drink. I'm 8 days out and very fearful that I drank to much because I felt so full. I just am scared I could cause myself a leak. I feel like I push liquids to the limit.. all u ever hear is people saying liquids go right through. But do they? I don't have pain but I'm working myself into a tizzy thinking a may have caused a problem. Help me get my sanity

I am sorry for your loss. We all slip up and fall into bad habits. So journal your food and feelings and get back on tract with protein water and distraction when you feel the need to find comfort in food. I too have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Can u go to the a ymca for water arobics or just to swim around. Remember God is always up 24/7. You got this! -

It's ingrained in my brain. I cannot stop focusing on it either. I'm getting ready to do my passport. I've been researching sugar free chewable Vitamins. Protein boosters. Powerade Zero. Gas-X Strips. My plan is to buy my surgery clothes: sports bra, plain roomy undies, loose fitting elastic waist pants, roomy tshirt, and slip on shoes for travel. My BFF is getting married at the end of August and I'm her MOH so I'm trying to picture myself 6 months postop at the beach in NC. Sigh... Amanda Rae -

kellyw74 replied to kellyw74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I don't do Protein drinks. I agree that it seems to be anything I eat or drink and not just one thing in paticular. I guess it is just the little stomach and the air maybe. I agree tho that it is foul-smelling! LOL Kelly -
6 Mos Out, Stopped Losing, What Can I Expect For The Future?
clk replied to sgraff47's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I stalled for a while around six months (for nine weeks) and lost in fits in starts the entire time. So it might just be your normal. Weight also comes off much more slowly the closer you are to goal. Everyone's dietary needs are different and I'm not trying to sound harsh. I ate over 2,500 calories a day before surgery, too...and I was gaining at a rate of a few pounds a month. That doesn't mean it was normal or good for me! If you're male and quite active your diet sounds right. If you're female, I'd say you're already eating like you're in maintenance. One thing we need to shed is all of our old "dieting" info that's stashed in our brains from years of struggling with our weight. No, we aren't going to starve to death or destroy our metabolism with a lower calorie diet, even though doctors have beaten the "1,200 calories" into our heads for years. For some of us, even the 1,200 was too much. If it wasn't too much for some of us, and if dieting really were one-size-fits-all, Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem would make every American skinny on the first go-round. So, if you feel your diet needs work, change it and be more strict with yourself. I don't advocate paring carbs to nothing and eating 500 calories a day, though it undoubtedly gets results. Track your food religiously and see where the line is. If you trim your calories by 20% do you lose at the same rate or does it pick up? If it stays the same, it's just that you're a slower loser and you can eat as you are now. But if it picks up, you know the answer lies in your diet. I was slow and steady the whole way with two nine-week stalls. It took me 17 months to lose 107 pounds. I've kept within four pounds of goal with very little effort. I eat like a person in maintenance and consume 1,400 or so calories a day of whatever I really want, but I aim for 90 grams of Protein each day. Only you really know how you're doing. If you're unhappy with your rate of loss and your diet or exercise can improve things for you, you're silly to waste the opportunity. If you're just a slow loser, join the club. Make sensible choices and keep moving and you'll get to goal. ~Cheri -
6 Mos Out, Stopped Losing, What Can I Expect For The Future?
Lissa replied to sgraff47's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I slowed way down after 6 months, but I've lost several sizes in clothes during that time. Now is when you have to get real with yourself and make sure you're getting in your Protein and Water, watching your carb intake and eating normal size portions. It's also a great time to add exercise, if you haven't already developed a routine of some kind. Your capacity is probably increasing. It's up to you to make sure that you're using that capacity for the benefit of your body. I joined a gym, added my fitness pal and bought a fit bit. I've also upped my exercise routine to include at least 30 minutes of cardio 7 days a week. I'm still losing, slowly, but steadily. However, I'm watching myself shape up, which is fun! Good luck!! -
Am I not suppose to eat fruit?
lsereno replied to miangr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's program is different. Mine allowed fruits after week 2, and I ate tiny amounts of them. I got my Protein in first and that very little room for anything else. Measure your fruit. The best way is to weigh it. 100 grams ( a little over 3 oz.) has 46 calories. Only exercise I got at a month out was walking. I wasn't cleared for the gym till after week 6. Stay on your eating plan and the stall will go away. Lynda -
I had my surgery on May 23rd and today is my 4th day post-op. I was extremely calm before the surgery. I wasn't feeling any anxiety or fear at all but ooh boy, then it hit. After I was sitting home trying to gulp down my disgusting protein shake, I just started to sob. What have I done? I love food and now I can't touch it. Will it ever get better? Logically I know that it will but when I get like this I feel so helpless. Then of course my mind starts to wonder - I'm 30 years old, single, no love prospects. I broke it off with my boyfriend on my 30th birthday because I was tired of the drama yet here I am, wondering if I dial him with my caller ID off will he know it's me? So ridiculous! It's amazing how the beginning of this journey is bringing so many emotions that I thought I wouldn't have to deal with. I just want to say that reading the forums has been a tremendous help. You guys are some of the most positive people I have ever come across and you're truly an inspiration. I know you don't know me from Adam but you've been a tremendous help. And for that, I thank you.

PS---the Unjury brand of protein shakes are also good, I've had vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, and they are all good.

Before And After Questions About Meals And Protein
iPrincess replied to wishfulaimee's topic in Food and Nutrition
Congrats we have the same surgery day. There is a forum I think in pre op for protein and there are a lot of suggestions there. I had ordered samples from injury just google it. I like the premier shakes from costco I think they have them at SAM club or the website. Friday I ordered sample packs for chike and nectar. They have a variety in the packs so you can try without buying the whole container. Vitamin Shoppe have some samples and the single ready to drink shakes. I have gone to the the gas stations they have rtd shakes I found syntha 6 and that was good. I have my pre op nutrition class Tuesday. I know after surgery my dr office have shakes called Z pro 25 that you have to drink. But Tuesday I might get a sample and try it. I hope this help. -

Week 5 . Am I getting in my nutrients
ejmom86 replied to Ezinne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm just starting full liquids today so I don't have a lot of experience to give but I plan on using protein shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt and possibly trying out protein pudding. I was able to get in about 6 tablespoons of protein shake this morning before I felt really uncomfortable. I think it's gas/period pain but I didn't want to push it. I've had a few sips of water over the last 45 min and the pain seems to be subsiding. My advise would be to stick to easy proteins and try things like chicken in a week or two and see how it goes. It's almost like feeding a baby food for the first time. Doesn't always go well, try again after some time has passed. Good luck! Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app -
So looking forward to Monday Afternoon! Little nervous of what the doc may say. hoping that he doesn't say no, or some other negative response. I am busy planning my strategy and discussing options of when to have it done. it's her b-day on the 17th Jan and i would like to do the surgery after so not to interrupt any celebrations. She however wants me to do it before. like as soon as possible at the beginning of the year. so she can look after me :-) So i will need to take this into account. She's a Teacher (south africa) so our school year is different to the States & UK. but she will still be on holiday until +-16th Jan. Really appreciate all her support. I Will let you all know what the doc says,

Tapioca pudding In the Crock pot 2 qts. Milk (skim) 1 c. sugar (or splenda measure) 1 c. small pearl tapioca (not the minute box kind) Mix in crockpot and turn on high .. cook for 3 hrs (stir once about ½ way thru cooking) Beat 4 eggs and add 2 t. vanilla (I use pure vanilla) Take a small amount of tapioca from crockpot and stir into the beaten eggs (so they won’t curdle when added to hot mixture) and mix well. (I use a wire whisk). Cover and cook on high for another 20 mins. I take the lid off the crockpot, and take the liner out, setting it on hot pads to let cool. Then chill in fridge. This is really good .. here is the nutritional information as I typed it in to food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate. It makes a 3.5 qt crock pot full so you will have to determine how many calories per serving. You may cut it down if you like and not make as much. Cals 621, Fat 18g, Cholestral 870mg, Sodium 495mg, Carbs 71g, Sugars 33g,Fiber 0g, Protein 41g.

BigLuv Between you and me, I sure he would rather have you skinny than to not have you, right?! I don't get banded until Jan 25. My husband was against it as well, dead set. I didn't want it to become a thorn in our marriage, so I prayed about it. He came up to me one day and we had a conversation about how he felt and he is on board. There are different consultations that you have to do in order to get approved.....ie...psych, nutrition and things like that. You might want to set those appts up and ask your honey to come with you to gain knowledge about it. Make an apt with the surgeon and get as much information about it in front of his eyes so that he can "see" that this is the best option for you....for him. Ignorance keeps a lot of people from being the great people that they were intended to be. With love, help him understand. Be encouraged, life is precious. Best of luck, Amy

It takes a while for your body to adjust. You are still healing. chicken can be tough so avoid it for a little while. Stick with softer foods for a while if you need to. I had to for a long time. What kind of Protein drink are you using? Premier Protein ready made drinks are only 11 oz and 30g protein. If you haven't tried those, give them a try.

It sounds like you are having at least some problems with capacity - chew like crazy and keep portions smaller. As far as the firmness of chicken, the supermarket should have ground chicken and ground turkey, and you could make for example chili with that and kidney Beans and/or black beans, which have additional protein. Another thing they might sell is pulled chicken, which is shredded chicken breast in BBQ sauce.

Plateau ALREADY????????
citygirl4616 replied to tinaf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you are experiencing is very common and completely normal. There is a pretty good chance that you will not lose any more weight (and may gain a little) until your first adjustment. Many doctors put the band in empty, so you are probably getting little to no restriction right now. Also, the first 6 post-op weeks are really for healing, not necessarily for optimal weight loss. Consider any weight loss a bonus. In the 2 weeks after my surgery, I lost 16 pounds. Then in the next 2 weeks (soft food stage), I lost nothing. Then when I added regular food, I gained 2 pounds! Finally, at the 6 week mark, I got my first adjustment, and within 4 days, I was down 3 pounds. Whew! This seems to be a pretty common pattern, so don't sweat it! Just eat as healthy as possible for now...lots of Protein for healing, and wait patiently for your first fill. -
hi everyone, I am a recent sleever, currently living in Thailand. I had my VSG on the 18th of February by a wonderful surgeon, and I am receving tremendous support from my nutritionist as I work through the post-op diet. I had minimal complications (that I am aware of), and I as home within 2 days after surgery. I decided to join the forum for some moral support, as Thailand currently does not have the neccesary support system post-op, yet. I have a question I am hoping someone could help me figure out. I started the whole journey at 104kg, and lost 6kg pre-op, left the hospital after surgery at 100kg(I did not urinate much for 1000mg of IV for 2 days) and went down to 92kg within 2 weeks(I think it was all Water weigh, though) I've been on the post-op diet regime for the past 3 weeks, eating average of 600-700cal and 50-60gm of Protein per day. I've also recently gotten back to the gym for light cardio. However, it seems I have not lost any weigh for the past 1 week! It just seems strange to not lose anything with such low calories consumption! Have I hit the starvation mode button on my body? Any help, thoughts, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I like a chocolate mint Life Choice bar. It has 20 grams of protein. It is kind of chewy so you need to like chewy things. I get them at WalMart.

It took me 6 months to get restriction so this could take you a while. Buy a digital scale and measure out your protein when it's gone no seconds. The rest of you meal should be veggies.

I travel a lot with work and have a two main survival tips: 1) Pack emergency foodstuffs. Since you're pre-op you could pack some nuts and single-serve Peanut Butter, sugar-free jell-o or pudding, in addition to staples like Protein bars. Since many hotels also have coffee / tea service, you could also pack oatmeal (e.g., Quaker Weight Control is full of protein!) and use the coffee service to heat Water. In a pinch, you can use a coffee cup to fix up the oatmeal, but a disposable bowl is good to have too. Don't forget to bring a spoon. 2) Visit restaurants with large menus. Diners are great for this. Explain that you are on an extremely restricted diet and you only want XYZ. If you can find something on the menu that's close, order that and modify it. Otherwise, pretty much anywhere can bring you 3 oz of plain grilled chicken and steamed vegetables if you ask for it. Most places are very very good for this. Don't forget to leave a big tip in gratitude. Hope this helps!

You might ask your company if they could pay you per diem for travel. Then go to a whole foods or a good grocery store to buy the good stuff. Even if they won't pay for it, you will be better off. Also- pack protein drinks, oatmeal, protein bars etc in your travel bag. You can skip dinner with coworkers - if they insist, meet up with them for a drink afterward and get water with lemon or a juice or something. Hard for even me to say it, but work needs to take second place for a while.
