  1. I think the reason my hair loss wasn't that noticeable is that I have VERY short hair. Hard to have handfulls falling out when the hair is only an inch or so long... get a haircut?
  2. Other than chop off all my hair to a pixie cut around 3 months post, absolutely nothing. New growth started sprouting around 6 months post, and by 2 years post all those chicken hairs were the same length as the rest of my hair which i was regularly trimming (my hair was just below chin length by then) Good Luck!❤️
  3. Be patient, take your vitamins and eat your protein. The vitamins and protein won't stop the hair loss, but it is good for when it comes back. Which it will. I lost so much hair but it is now growing out.
  4. I read about it before, everyone said it would happen... I didn't think it would be such a big deal, but OMG, hello???? Fistfuls of hair in the shower drain?! Like, what EVEN?????? So any solutions? What did you do about it???? (And don't tell me to buy a better shower drain...😵) HHHHEEEEEELLLPPPP!!!!!!

    Advice and encouragement

It is so, so important to remember that stalls are a completely normal, expected part of WLS. Nobody loses weight at a set pace the ENITRE time and then magically just stop when they reach goal. Weight loss is not linear - it is an up and down, start and stop, stall and restart process. So you need to make peace with the fact that you will not lose weight every week, when you do lose weight it will be variable, and that all of this is normal and healthy. That being said, a true stall is usually considered 3+ weeks, although this definition varies amongst doctors/dietitians. Regardless, a week or two with no movement, or even a slight gain, is NOT a stall. Most people's weight fluctuates 5ish pounds day over day - meaning you may weight 2lbs more today than you did yesterday and in reality, didn't actually gain any weight. I would suggest not weighing everyday. Its not helpful or healthy and can actually lead to some really unhealthy habits. Pick a set day each week to weigh - I weight on Tuesdays because I had surgery on a Tuesday so I'm tracking week over week from my surgery day. Also, take measurements and pictures. While you may (often) not see the scale move, your body WILL be changing. Keeping tangible data helps remind you that there is still progress and gives your brain concrete evidence. Lastly, you just need to give it time and trust the process. WLS is not magic, it takes time and consistency. This isn't just another diet we can give up on, this is the rest of our lives. Hang in there, you are exactly where you are meant to be.

    Advice and encouragement

Many people think they are a "slow loser" but in fact they just have unrealistic expectations from shows like My 600 Lb Life, which features people who lose "fast" because they are much bigger than your average WLS patient. You may still be a slow loser; I can't tell how much of your 33 lb weight loss was before surgery, but I lost about 9 lbs on average per month for the first 6 months after surgery, and my surgery center said I was doing great! Try to focus on things you can control, like eating and drinking and exercising the way your surgery center recommended, and don't worry about the scale. You might also focus on how your clothes fit or other "non-scale victories". You might also consider reaching out to your surgery center to make sure you're on track, and consider seeing a bariatric therapist. Good luck!
  7. Omg TWELVE months pregnant…that would be a sight to behold 😂 Yay on the stall breaking and boo about the hair…but like u said, its all par for the course, so hang in there. P.S. Keep an eye on the fish oil intake it may cause lower blood pressure (among other things in high doses) and with the already lowered blood pressure due to surgery and weight loss, you may get woozy. Good Luck! ❤️

    Bowel Movement after Sleeve

it can take a week to have the first BM. And it's often a doozy! A lot of us take stool softeners to ease the "passage"... just so you know, chronic constipation is a common issue after weight loss surgery (but usually not as bad as that first post-surgery one). Many of us take a capful of Miralax or stool softeners to stay on top of it.
  9. You know i tried something similar. So weight loss surgery is excluded for me. So i spoke to the insurance to see if i was diagnosed with severe gerd, would they cover gastric bypass surgery since its basically a cure to it. They straight up told me no. I was like of course thats just my insurance.
  10. It’s been 14 days. No issues getting water or protein. I’m actually not as hungry as the first few days but when I smell food I was certainly like a bite Only 1 issue with nausea. I had some green tea with no sugar from Starbucks. I drank about half, and that came up. TMI Weight loss has been great but I’m sure still primarily water but still 18 lbs I have started heavy weights and that went well but tired quick. I’ll stick with one muscle group per day. Good luck everyone.
  11. Its the small things that count! I don't look like I'm 12 months pregnant anymore. Good news the stall out that was happening, is finally over after 5 weeks! Finally dropped 3 more pounds, I'll take it. My hair is falling out like there is no tomorrow. Like a handful every time I brush. I know this is normal, I expect after the first 6 months it will lighten up. I'm at 4 months. Take all my vitamins. Even take a fish oil supplement because it works so good for my dogs fur, thought I'd try people fish oil. The jurys still out.
  12. Has anyone else used Found for prescription weight loss? And if so, were you able to obtain records to use as documentation of of failed weight loss with your insurance provider? I joined Found sometime last year and was prescribed Naltrexone and Wellbutrin to lose weight. Dr.s review your information and prescribe the medication and you're given a coach that hounds you daily. You do weekly weigh-ins and are given tasks and specific ways of eating based on whatever the coach decides you need to do. Needless to say, I used the "service" for about 3 months and made no real headway after spending $100 a month so I cancelled. Just wondering if that's enough, or am I going to have to do something else? My insurance guidelines state, "A thorough multidisciplinary evaluation within the previous 12 months which includes... documentation of failure of weight loss by medical management...", etc..
  13. Too funny! All the hair had disappeared from my nether regions until I lost weight. It's back now. [emoji51] Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sore shoulder?

a lot of people take a capful of Miralax every day to keep on top of it (I think it's the same as Movicol in the UK). There are others who take stool softeners every day - or magnesium tablets - whatever works. Chronic constipation is unfortunately a common issue with weight loss surgery patients.
  15. I am not sure this is a "victory" but, sooo much hair in my butt crack! To elaborate: I don't mean my butt has grown hair. haha When I shower, there is always a wad of hair stuck between my butt cheeks. I assume my ass has gotten smaller so the crack is not squeezed a tightly shut allowing for hairs to be grabbed on the way down. hahah (PS: I have not been loosing anymore hair than normal, so I know it's not that)
  16. I’m a shopaholic and have donated a lot of my clothes to a church nearby. They actually posted a woman lost her clothes in a house fire & needed 3x. Most of mine were 2x, but I figured some would work. I’ve taken some dressier stuff to a consignment store & will admit I love buying size large &12 in pants, but I don’t want to overshop until I’m really done with weight loss. I buy either great sales or some from Sam’s/Costco due to low prices. Easier for my telework days, and have found the closest outlet mall for in office days. I have noticed I look at my new clothes sometimes as I’m getting dressed and think “no way does this fit” and then it does! It’s like I switched bodies with someone 80 pounds smaller!

    Stall out and depressed

That's true, stalls are just terrible. I am feeling so disconnected from my weight loss journey because the number doesn't move every day or every two days anymore. I am going to contact my dietician if I don't get below 245 in 2 weeks or possibly next week if I choose to weigh myself again. Idk I need to come up with some strategy. I've lost 60 lbs post op about, 30 pre op. I do get nervous because my surgeon said you can expect to lose 100 lbs, what if this is it? Mann, I'd be upset. But yeah, I will be patient and keep making good decisions, getting my water in the best I can and protein. Thank you.

    Stall out and depressed

Yeah, I guess this is my first real stall. None of them have lasted more than 2 weeks. I do find odd things like a pair of jeans that didn't fit me at 235 lbs in the past fit me now at 250. I don't understand that. The number can be so devious to me. I just wish it didn't make me depressed. I need to find a way to detach my value from my weight. I have been doing pretty heavy exercise, running again and lifting weights at the gym in fact this weight loss stall seemed to have started when I started the heavy exercise. Exercise has definitely increased my appetite. I'm in between a rock and a hard place because I want to be fit and build muscle but I don't want to feel hungry. I will call my dietician if this lasts longer than 2 more weeks.

    Stall out and depressed

if you're eating 1000-1300 kcal/day and exercising and weigh 248-291 lbs, you're not in maintenance - you're stalling. Unfortunately, stalls are very common. And a 91 lb loss at this point is amazing. You're losing a lot faster than I did. Stick to your program, and quit weighing yourself so much. The weight is going to come off as long as you stick to your program, whether fast or slow. I was close to a year out before I'd lost as much weight as you have, and I continued losing for almost two years. Be patient and just stick to your plan.

    Stall out and depressed

Your profile says you have lost 91lb in 4-5 months. Consider that amazing. Most take longer to loose that. and stalls happen. I am 2 months post op and i have had 3 stalls. they can be depressing but you will get over it and loose again. as you start to get closer to your goal weight and get more months past your weight loss will slow down. just stick to the program and you will continue to loose some.

    Stall out and depressed

Stalls happen. You can experience several of them while you are losing & they usually last - 3 weeks but sometimes more. They are part of the process. Your weight loss will never be a steady decline but will have ups & downs & flatlines. Your body needs time to play catch up with the changes - weight loss, dietary changes, etc. - & your weight loss stalls. (Someone recently posted a link to a surgeon who described it as a pause which I like.) You have been putting it through a lot. Many find that while the scales don’t move they notice their clothes are still getting loser. But yes they can mess with your head. If it persists, contact your dietician. Your diet may need a small tweak or you may need to shake up your exercise (though moving house will keep you very active). Usually they will pass just following your plan.
  23. I know this is posted on here time and time again but I'm so frustrated. I'm getting ready for a cross country move. I really imagined that by this time I'd be in the 230s. I have stalled out for the last 3 or 4 weeks and am so frustrated about it. I keep going in between 248 and 251. I don't know if this is maintenance because im only a bit over 4 months post op from gastric bypass. I have definitely increased my calories but am eating in a deficit. My BMR is around 1900 and I'm eating in between 1000 and 1300 a day plus exercise. I have been slacking in water and have not been having protein shakes at all because I'm getting a decent amount through solid food and don't want the extra cals. How do I get past this? I'm going to stay off the scale until the end of next week but I'm still feeling really down and bad about myself. I feel like a disgusting fat mess honestly. I haven't had these feelings since pre op and I just need to vent about it. I was experiencing a period of mania a week ago for a good 2 weeks straight (I'm bipolar) and missed some of my meds. I think I might be crashing and going through a depressive state. It's not super bad but the weight loss stall is making me have a lot of negative self image and feelings of failure. Should I just get back on liquids for a week or something? I'm losing my mind and getting depressed as hell. I'm taking my meds regularly again. I really only missed like 3 or 4 days and I take a small dosage. So I'm hoping to even back out soon but the stall is messing with my brain and confidence. What do you do? Backing out

I am 9 days post op and I felt just like you. I had done massive amounts of research and as the day drew closer I worked to find reasons why I shouldn't. My support system was great, they just supported me and made me make the decision myself. My biggest fear was the loss of food enjoyment. I sailed through the surgery. I had zero complications, very little pain, no nausea, the hardest part has been not being able to eat like I want to. In all of my research before surgery and since, I have not found one person who regrets it. Not one. I look at YouTube videos, I visit this site and it gives me the encouragement to press on. I have lost 16 pounds and that feels so good. I remind myself that it isn't always going to be like this. It will get better. I am excited for what lies ahead. The preop was hard, but you did it. The recovery is hard, but you got this. Please don't give up too soon.

Eating and Drinking 30 Minute Rule

My surgeon and nutritionist said that I could drink right up until eating, which I have done consistently for the three years since surgery. It didn't seem to affect my weight loss at all. They also said that no drinking for thirty minutes after eating is for life, and I have followed that religiously. And yes, I do get extremely thirsty at times. It's a small price to pay to be at a normal weight.
