  1. My husband went on a camping/hiking/biking trip with his buddy. While he was away, I got caught up in my feelings, wishing that he and I could do something like that as a couple, but knowing that I wouldn't be able to keep up, would be uncomfortable, tired, sweaty, etc. I started googling, found a surgeon who was having an initial class for potential patients, and signed up for the class. A week later, I picked up my husband from his camping trip, and told him I was going to have WLS. I was scared to tell him, but he was so supportive, and I knew I'd made the right decision. It's been a dream life ever since!!! We still talk about the day I picked him up from his trip and announced my surgery! LOL!!
  2. I’m a side sleeper too. I found a binder or spanx helped. It took about 2 weeks to feel comfortable sleeping. It turned out stomach sleeping was most comfortable.
  3. I’m 3 weeks post op RNY and am now beyond the period of post op pain etc, feeling physically good. But the mind work has been on-going. A friend asked me what my final straw was given there are injectables out there etc and I had to think about it. I didn’t have a crushing moment- it was more a collective of discomforts and feelings of being on the outside looking in, always. It was not finding clothes that fit, turning down invites bc I felt uncomfortable in my body, never wanting to eat in public (like strolling with an ice cream) for fear I’d be called out- essentially the meanness that I encountered on a daily basis. The scrutiny by me on myself was far more viscous than anything anyone might throw down but I didn’t like the wall I’d built up to protect me from the world. Did you have a moment or was it a slow unfolding that brought you to going forward with surgery? Thanks for your candor and vulnerability on this one ❤️

Puking my guts out today :(

When I went to sip my water 30 minutes after the steak meal, I knew something was wrong. It hurt when it hit my stomach then came back up. I waited and tried again. Same for the next few hours. I guess I could have laid down and tried to let it pass but read steak can sit in your stomach for a long while? Plus, I reasoned if it's blocked, why not get rid of it naturally instead of paying a doctor to go in and fish it out. Hopefully vomiting didn't do any damage 6 weeks post-op and I knew I needed my water, so I kept drinking every 30 minutes, till it went down. Water would always initially cause a small pain after a solids meal for me, so sometimes I'd wait an hour before drinking anything. But it was usually only that first sip, then things would pass through. I'm ok now and back to eating softer foods for the time being. I'm in no hurry to go through that again. And yes, I agree. If not being able to sip water without it coming back up had continued, I would have called my doctor or headed for the ER.
  5. Can't say I avoided it. The stall hit me hard & it lasted almost 4 weeks
  6. I slept on my back mostly prop on 2 to 3 pillows at first, but little by little I was trying to sleep on my side. I would mimic the side position with my legs even though my torso was straight lol. I started doing a towel rolled and sleeping at an angle, by 3 weeks I was sleeping on my side peacefully.
  7. I'm a side sleeper as well, but I think it took about three weeks before i could comfortably sleep on my side again. Until then, I had to sleep on my back (ugh...not used to that..)

You are absolutely right the only thing about this is that liquid diet thing. Can I handle this for 2 weeks prior to surgery that's why I'm getting started, but yeah I've cut out a whole heck of a lot of things preparing for this, breads, pastas none of that I eat, not even soda, and then dealing with it after surgery I wish I can stay in the hospital for a week after surgery at least that way I know things will be done right

    Taking Ursodiol for Gallbladder

I took that for the first few months (3? 6? can't remember), but I think it was a tablet - and it was just one per day. I don't remember the mg, but it was likely equivalent to your three capsules. Yes - just call your nurse and ask (ursodiol is a generic - so whatever version you have must have come from a different company than mine)
  10. I was prescribed 600 mg a day of ursodiol to prevent gallbladder problems beginning today at 3 weeks. Each capsule is 200 mg. If you had similar RX, did you spread out taking throughout the day or take all at once? Just wondering if my pouch can absorb all three capsules at one time. Thank you for any advice on this. I’ll call my nurse today but it often takes them a long time to respond.

So good to hear from you Gabbie! I was the same, pain and nausea. It gets better quickly. I just take a preventative tablet for reflux now, a week out. I'm living on broth lol. It's half my daily fluid intake. I also have a protien water, flavoured ice stick and jelly. Getting about 64 ounces with that. Going home is the best! Take care.
  12. It took about 2-3 weeks before I could lay on my side. It'll get better, hang in there.
  13. Try a body pillow or regular pillow under your tummy. I went from using a wedge pillow to sleep in more of an incline, to the body pillow, then a regular pillow. I've been sleeping fine on my side for about a week. My rny was may 1.

5 days Post op and cheated

You won’t be alone in doing this but do remember all those sutures & staples holding your tummy together. The staged return to eating solid food is in place to protect your healing tummy & support your recovery. I found the shakes awful too. I’d have a diluted one in the morning but then had cream soups (strain so no lumps or fibrous bits) & broths (bone is very good but can be salty). Make your own yoghurt drink by blending yoghurt (plain Greek) & milk. You can add some protein powder too. Just keep everything thin so it goes down easily. It’s only for two weeks. You’ll get through it.

    I’m back after 13 years!

I was banded Nov.2011. I was 375 got lowest 170...Started over on my journey having gotten too relaxed and bad eating habits. Acid reflux has been my enemy few times having fluid removed and by the time life hit with deaths in family .Up and down weight. 2023 came and had to have gallbladder removed and diagnosed with diverticulitis. Started over with lap-band and eating extremely different. Back on liquid and protein..Starting over is scary 260 last week..this week 256...uugh!! I know one day at a time ...learn from mistakes also and I got to do better...
  16. Wow ! Congrats ! I’m almost 2 weeks post surgery and still bloating and haven’t lost any weight since surgery. Hopefully I’ll finally drop some in the next 2 weeks
  17. I’m on a 4 week pre-op liquid diet! Yikes!

One week post op today, down 4kgs which is crazy. I'm not focused on protein during the liquid stage, just hydration. Next week it'll become a focus. I've tried adding protein powder to my broths and it's just not working. I don't need pain meds now, I haven't slept well the past 3 nights though needing to change positions. Hopefully as incisions continue to heal that stops. I ordered an instant pot at 50% off yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive so I can meal prep for the next 2 weeks. Ordered lots of containers too. I can't wait to eat again, don't care that it's pureed lol.

    Daily chronicles

    I can relate. I became a recluse the last few years of my life. Rarely left my home and found excuses to avoid any type of social events. Now, 6 weeks out from surgery, I have a new sense of hope. So I'm trying to change my mindset. Not sure if you exercise but doing so will help increase endorphins. The feel good chemicals in the brain. I made myself leave the house and walk outdoors in the sunshine today. First time in years.. Only a little over a mile around a lake at a local park. It was a first for my little Rat Terrier too. I think she loved it even more than I did. When done... tired but felt like a million bucks. I have a few edibles lying around too and my vape but saving those for a future rainy day;) Hope you get to feeling better soon!!! {{hugs}}

  21. Hi here is my story I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy in 2014 with hiatal hernia repair with the intent to loose weight to boost my fertility as we had been trying to have a baby for almost 2 years. I found myself pregnant 3 months later. It was not my intention to get pregnant so soon after surgery but we were thrilled. I did end up loosing about 120 pounds over all. Here I am 9 years and 3 babies later However I got back up to 286lbs. I am 36 years old and we decided we are done having biological children so I wanted to try and start my weight loss journey again. Reached back out to my bariatric office, and they scheduled an EGD to check out my sleeve and investigate as I do have heart burn. They found I had some gastritis and a hiatal hernia. In addition the top part of my sleeve had expanded above my diaphragm. So on April 27, 2023 I had another hiatal hernia repair and partial gastrectomy. He said that had more efficient ways on fixing my hernia than they did 9 years ago and that the partial gastrectomy would be kind of tightening up my sleeve at the top that expanded. I am at 270lbs today so it is nice to see the scale go down but I find myself frustrated that the weight is definitely not coming off like it did the first time around. I know it takes time and that I am doing well but the scale just will not move from 269-272lbs over a week and I hate it and just wanted to vent. I'm currently doing puree and I'm trying to make sure I get in all of my water and protein. I am not overeating for sure. I don't feel hungry at all and I have to remind myself to eat. Well that's the gist of my story and I just wanted to put it out there and see if anyone can relate and maybe we can help encourage each other, thanks for reading.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I just had my last dr visit. Getting cardiac clearance today bloodwork in three weeks. Dr office is applying to my ins for pre approval. I’m holding my breath. There’s no reason for them to decline it but they gave me a hassle about getting endoscopy and had to appeal three times for that. Crossing my fingers I’ll be able to keep june22 date
  23. I’ve just had my 3rd week weigh in and lost 2.6lbs but I’m ready and prepared for a stall to come at some time soon!
  24. Hello everyone! I thought I should share my story. I am 42 years old. I Was never really overweight when I was younger but in my early 30s weight started to creep on. To the point that I went from 125 lbs at 31 up to my highest of 245 lbs at 39 years old in 2020. When I got to that point I started trying everything to lose weight. But to no avail. Nothing seemed to work. In April 2022 I went to a seminar to learn about different weight loss surgeries. I then decided to do it. My first appointment with my surgeon I decided that the gastric sleeve would be best for me. My surgery date was 11/30/22. I had gotten down to 217 from 245 by then. Now six months later i am officially 100 total lbs lost! 72 since surgery. I am 145 today which puts me in a normal bmi range. I only need to lose 15 more to get to my goal! I am no longer diabetic, my A1C was 7.1 in October. Got it tested last week it is now 4.9! I no longer have high blood pressure and I feel great! If anyone reading this is considering surgery, don’t be scared to get it. It was the best decision I have ever made! Thank you for reading this! ❤️
  25. Good morning Bariatric Pal Community… I am writing this post to take a poll of sorts. A little background: I am 43 years old and 2.5 years post op; maintaining healthy eating and fitness habits. I am also training for my first Ironman Triathlon in September- how cool is that?!? Three years ago when I was 360 lbs, I never would have conceived the possibility of a triathlon. Anyway, the cool benefit of making all these positive changes is it has me thinking about different options professionally. I have a successful career currently but to be honest my heart just isn’t in it anymore. My real passion is health and fitness. Which brings me to this post… I am thinking about becoming a Fitness Coach/Life Coach geared towards the bariatric community. I would like feedback on the following questions: 1. In your journey, do you think having a coach would be helpful? 2. If so, would working with someone who has been in your shoes provide a credible perspective? 3. Would you be willing to engage with a coach virtually if in-person wasn’t an option? 4. What would you expect from a coach? Thanks in advance for your help!
