Hungry All The Time After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
clk replied to jayzer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well the first question we always ask is are you on a PPI? The biggest culprit for causing that "I'm hungry" feeling is acid and for many of us, once we're on a PPI we're fine. If you're on one, talk to your doc and adjust your dose. You might need more or it might not be an acid problem at all. If you Water is cold, try drinking it at room temp. I had trouble with water for a long while. I had to add something to get it down or it made me feel nauseous. Try Real Lemon or Real Lime packets, room temp water and even a packet or two a day of Crystal Light. If you can get those down, you're fine. Are your meals made of dense Protein? Eat things that make you feel full - protein and Fiber together pack a wallop and should leave you feeling satisfied for a few hours. Evaluate what you're eating - if you're eating yogurt and feeling hungry later, well, that's probably because yogurt slides right through. Try eating dense protein first, then moving onto fibrous veggies and finally onto a few bites of your soft carbohydrate like mashed potatoes. Try to set an eating schedule and limit yourself to set snack times. If you must graze, try to track your calories and log all of your food so that this doesn't become an ongoing issue. I tend to "forget" to log food I graze on, and then I fall off track and stop losing. This is a bad habit and will impede your success. And, I suppose it could possibly be bad news. If you try everything here and still feel hungry after two weeks you might be one of the very few who never lose the actual, physical hunger. This is bad because the lack of hunger makes the surgery easier. However, it doesn't mean you can't succeed. You still had 85% of your stomach removed and will still have a great deal of restriction. If you force yourself to follow good eating habits you can still lose your weight. My opinion is that the hunger feelings will fade. They are almost always tied to acid or diet. Good luck! ~Cheri -

Halo Top in Protien Shake??
Dalrae replied to shalove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try adding non fat Greek yogurt to the protein you like and that will add on extra protein -
Does anyone else feel really limited by the "Protein, protein, protein" rule? I'm in this mind set that the only thing I can eat is protein filled meat and vegetables, which is sort of true. What do you guys do to mix it up? What other kinds of things besides meat do you eat to cover your protein? Also, I'm not a big fan of greek yogurt. Also, really random question. Does anyone plan on taking their band out after they've reached their weight goal? Or do you plan on keeping it forever?
-
Thanks for the advice. I usually do try to mix it up but I was just giving her a generic run down of what I was having yesterday! I do mix turkey instead of chicken and tuna. But, for me, just so that I do eat Breakfast, I stick with the yogurt or eggs. Nothing else stays down. So, that I don't skip, I change flavors of the yogurt and Protein. That's all the variety I can take right now. Any other suggestions for a breakfast that will stay down or that will go down? Bars are a no go. oatmeal made me vomit before banding, I can only imagine now. I do work and need it to be quick as I'm on the road by 6:30 am.

Clear liquid diet...SUCKS!!!
bayareanan replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just finishing up my 2 week post of liquid diet(I also had 2 weeks of Clear liquids before surgery). My Dr didnt allow yogurt or sf pudding. The closest to normal I got (besides the clear soup) was sf Jello and sf popsicles. My next phase is 4 weeks of pureed/mushes. I have to admit I am thinking of staying on liquids another week because I have made slow but steady progress while on liquids only. The first few days are the worst, but after that you accept the limitations and make due. -
Clear liquid diet...SUCKS!!!
tabatha lynn replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Alot!! Best of luck to you as well. I drank the EAS Carb Controll Shakes from Wal-Mart. Mixed them with some crushed ice, a little bit of milk and plain yogurt in the blender and they were pretty good. Now its no mac n cheese but after all mac n cheese is what got me here.. They are low in carbs and sugar. Plus when you add the milk and plain yogurt that gives you a little more protein. Hope this helps.. Keep us posted on how your doing!! -
Not only do I have the lap band but I work in surgery and see patients all the time have this procedure done. I have run across old and new threads about all three being months post op. Well here is the thing and I hate when people get frantic because they dont know what is wrong and want to take their band out or get the by pass done just sayin. I am 10 months post op. I often had and have shoulder pain but shoulder pain comes from over eating. Everyone has a nerve in their stomach that runs from the stomach to the shoulder when you have over eaten and the band presses on that nerve you will have pain. If you are havng this problem then whatever you are eating cut it in half. You also might have inflammation in your stomach so give it a rest of 72 hours. Go back to the diet you had when you came home from the hospital and start over. For gas and bloating my culprit was cinnamon in my coffee and spices and talking while eating, chewing gum, after I stopped all that the gas and bloating stopped. Also start drinking some probiotics dan active, eating activia yogurt, and use gas x until the symptoms stop. You probably are going back to your old eating ways at some point and you just cant. We have to stay on the diet, follow the diet or else you start having side affects you didnt have before. But dont talk about taking out your band until you have tried what you were doing before all that started. Hope it helps I really do.

I feel like I can eat too much for 2 weeks Post Op
GummyTummy replied to Loristi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lori, You won't really feel much restriction with anything liquid. Your stomach is basically a funnel right now for Soups, and shakes. The same holds true for yogurt. The reason you feel full with the egg is it is slightly more dense. =) You are doing fine, just keep in mind as you move to soft foods to keep that slow pace you are using on the yogurt -
Scared I wont be able to do this
Chele H replied to AliciaRenee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly.....I use no special recipes and don't stress over it. I make dinner for my family and only eat the protien and veggies. If I make spaghetti and meatballs, I only eat the meatballs. chicken, green Beans and potatoes for dinner....I just skip the potatoes. For lunch I usually eat rolled up deli meat, tuna or egg salad or lentil Soup. Breakfast is a Protein drink or greek yogurt. Once you get to solid protein you will feel full on a small amount and if you do not drink to quickly after eating you will stay full for quite a while. You will be fine. -
I would love yogurt! But, my doc said the liquids have to be clear the first week. I can start yogurt and pudding in a few days though...I hope!
-
they said 1/4 cup--i tried a bacon and bean strained soup---yuck!! it was so salty--i think i may try yogurt next! i am in need of something else!!!

My is week 1 & 2 full liquids: protein shakes, cream soups(no chunks) and yogurt Week 3-6: Soft foods Then i start adding in regular food. I am on week 2
-
I did the pureed for the first 2 days of my soft foods. Mashed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, sugar free applesauce, pudding, and Greek yogurt. If at any time you have trouble with soft foods you can go back th o full liquids for a day and try again. I haven't had to do that yet. Good luck.

Sleeved on Jun 20/2013...lost & sad.
Damaris67 replied to karenoconnortx's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Boiled eggs are a waste of calories and sleeve space. Not enough protein .Research before you put anything in your mouth. I live on greek yogurt 14-15 gr of protein. Tilapia, chicken, red meat. Cottage cheese is high in protein. Special K PROTEIN PLUS cereal 1/2 cup with 1/2 cup Carbmaster milk. I don't have space for veggies or bananas in my sleeve. No protein? I won't eat it. Water? Yes, but not as much cause I forget to drink it. I take my Bariatric advantage vitamins and 1 iron pill every day. I am not doing ANY excersise but to walk from my cubicle to the mail room a few times per day. I've lost 35 lbs in 8 weeks. Ps: I take Wellbutrin. What is depression again? You gotta take something. See a doctor. Get serotonin levels up baby. Check your thyroid levels. You'll feel great. -
Im An Idiot And Ate Mushies Too Soon
ready4change2 replied to BreBre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am able to eat scrambled eggs and mash potatoes one week post-op. They said as long as tolerated. I am not a week post -op yet. I must be swollen still because i do feel restriction. I can also have cream of wheat and yogurt. You should be fine. -
@@QueenBx girl I want Chipotles. But I have to admit that I'm liking mushy. I'm in Texas and there must be like 4 bbq spots not far from me and I like to get the smoked chicken thigh (no sauce), it's tender and gets mushy easily, plus the flavor is amazing. But I can only eat about half before I get full. Are you expermenting with your food? I was bored at first b/c all I ate was yogurt, cottage cheese, Soup and canned tuna. I just odered me a pressure cooker, I'm going to try to make my own healthy version of soft mushy Protein and veggies. Are you getting your Water? I'm still having trouble! Any ideas please share.

I'd just stick with what does sit well in your stomach for now. I've been officially cleared to try any food, still focusing on protein first of course, but it's been easiest to just stick with soft foods for the most part. Lots of tuna, chili and yogurt. Good luck, it isn't easy that's for sure!

soup is a liquid and goes right through you. Yogurt takes a little longer, but not much. You'll start to really feel the restriction when you get to the solid food stage.

Now That We Got Here How Do We Get Past The Ice Cream Demon
Alexandra replied to NY LAPSTER's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey there, I'm the original ice cream addict!! I have totally come to terms with my addiction, and embrace it as part of my personality. It has not gotten in the way of my weight-loss goals, although certainly I realize that indulging will slow me down. But a world without ice cream is not a world I want to live in. I have some form of frozen dessert, I'd say, five days a week. We keep ice cream in the house and though I try to buy the no-sugar, no-fat variety that's not always the case. At ice cream stores I'll often go for the sugar- and fat-free frozen yogurt, but again, not always. I never really pigged out on ice cream the way I've heard others admit to--eating a whole pint of anything has always seemed like A LOT to me, and now even more so. My servings are typically more like 8 ozs. It doesn't feel like something I'm fighting, because I consciously gave up the fight. There's a balance that lets me maintain or lose weight and still have ice cream in my life. If I decide I'm not losing fast enough or whatever, I'll know the reason why and know that action is within my control. You've lost 80 lbs in what, 6 months!?!? Holy cow, man. I think you deserve some ice cream!! There's no rush to kick a habit that will cause you distress to quit; we're not in this to feel deprived or depressed or cheated out of a normal life. If you're truly overdoing it, just try taking it down to a better level. I'd worry that if I were to try kicking it altogether I'd just find some worse thing to adopt as a vice. So I've settled with the demon and call him "friend." -
Sounds better ! Personally I would ask for liquid Antibiotic, but that's up to you! If it's going down, and your fine with that....... That's your business. I would stay on Liquids for a few days, because your still hurting. Popsicles, yogurt, sugar free pudding, Etc... Even try small spoons of cottage cheese, maybe tomorrow. Just thinking about the throat hurting, a little cold might help that. Just don't chill your stomach. The Pepcid is chewable, so if you need it in the future ! Shirley.

Chicken Salad has become a huge staple of my diet since bread went out the window. I usually replace my mayo with half mayo half plain greek yogurt and sometimes cottage cheese just to cut the fat of full mayo. How do you make your chicken salad??

What do you do when you are a picky eater, and now you dislike most of the things you need to assist in your weight loss?
tiffanyt replied to BostonStrong617's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 5 weeks post op and am finding myself in a similar boat. I just don't really like anything anymore. I almost gagged with tuna, and enjoyed it before. I mix unflavored protein powder with my yogurt, retried beans, pudding, etc to get my protein in. -
Surgery on Aug. 30th - - anyone else?
jillw8 replied to LovelyLyric's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. I was also sleeved on the 30th. It amazes me how different the diets are from doctor to doctor. By week 2 I was allowed yogurt, pudding, eggs, oatmeal, and soup. I just hit week four and was allowed to add in meats, that are soft, Peanut Butter, toast, and crackers. Regardless of te diet I think we all have that mental thought....I need to (or can) eat more. I'm trying to learn to really slow down and listen to my body. Which is new for me. For years, I have just mindlessly ate and ate. Not anymore. It sounds like you are healing well! Good luck! I am down 27lbs! -
Surgery on Aug. 30th - - anyone else?
LovelyLyric replied to LovelyLyric's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. Your progress is amazing! I wish I could have Peanut Butter and bread. I'm in week 4 and still eating baby food and yogurt. I want to do my best to follow the doctor's orders but it is a little discouraging to hear that other doctor's have allowed their patients more options than mine in week 4. Nonetheless I will continue to follow the rules because I don't want to set myself back or cause any complications. Wishing you all the best with your recovery.
