I have my second sleep study tonight. Yes, I said my second. I did one last year and did one at home about 4 or 5 months ago. Yet, I have to do it again. I'm not looking forward to it. I don't like sleeping somewhere besides my own bed and the fact that my two teen age children will be alone for the night doesn't really do anything to help matters. Oh, well. It's just another step in the process I guess. I realized something today. Its been about 2 weeks of the high protein, low fat, low carb diet and while eating dinner i ate the protein, then some vegetable and took maybe two bites of the scalloped potatoes ( which i would normally pig out on) and said "I'm full yet again!). Proud of myself for not eating everything that was in front of me. It's taking time but the way I eat is changing. My daughter, who will be 16 in August said it looks like I am already loosing weight. I have no idea as I haven't been weighed in a week. I hate the scale. It is NOT my friend but one day will be! I am eating my small meals as told. I now eat breakfast, something I haven't done in years and snack on string cheese, yogurt,or peanut butter. Baby steps... and I will succeed!

considering going vegetarian, need some advice
BLERDgirl replied to pookybear's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I am vegetarian and deathly allergic to seafood. Highly processed foods tend to trigger my allergies. My Protein comes from Beans, tofu, seitan, dark green veg, grains, nuts, dairy (mostly cheese and yogurt) & eggs. I don't drink/like cow's milk, but I do eat greek yogurt. I prefer FAGE 0%. I also supplement with whey Protein powder. It takes being creative, but I have no problem keeping my protein between 85 - 100 gms. My carbs are often high, but as long as they aren't coming from "white" or heavily refined sources I don't worry about them. I am also allergic to artificial sugars and stevia. I don't often add sugar to my foods. I do eat fruit several times a week. When I do add sugar use either real sugar or raw honey. At 10mths I keep my calories between 800 - 1000 a day and work out 5 - 6 days a week. @@pookybear - You could try having Meatless Monday's with your boyfriend. Look for meaty textures like portabello mushroom and filling grains like quinoa and farro. -
2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?
minniegirl replied to Slimsoon1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So clearly we are all very different in what we are advised to do and also with the amounts we can tolerate. From day seven I was allowed purees, Soups, cottage cheese, tuna, scrambled egg & yogurt. I could eat 2-3 ounces depending on what it was. 2 tablespoons? wouldn't have cut it for me. Now I am 5 weeks out and can eat 2-4 ounces depending (more dense Proteins are more filling) but generally I weigh my meals to between 3-3 1/2 ounces and usually finish it. My surgeon says he makes his patients sleeves slightly larger than the norm, so this may be why I can eat a little more. I have had virtually zero issues, no nausea, vomiting or severe pain/discomfort that I was so terrified of before surgery. I am certainly NOT suggesting that you go against your program, but I do agree that your protocol seems pretty conservative. Maybe your surgeon makes his sleeves on the smallish side, ONLY you will know what feels right once you start. My NUT gave me a piece of advice that is so simple yet brilliant. She said " if you REALLY listen to your body you will not go wrong". -
Worried about prescriptions - antidepressants

I had my dr. switch me to the tablets to crush. The pharmacist said this was fine for the short term. I plan to crush and mix into a small bite of yogurt or protein shake. -
2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

Talk to your nutritionist. Goals/nutrition needs will vary not only program to program, but also for men vs women. For the record you are eating what I probably couldn't eat until about 4 weeks out. Even at 6 mths my calories are probably lower than most. That is an odd requirement. I have always eaten yogurt. If my nutritionist told me that we would have to have a really long conversation. I agree, I prefer Fage as a dessert over a pudding with artificial ingredients and fake sugar any day of the week. -
2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

I'm approaching my third week post op. Everything had been going well. I have been on a liquid diet for the three weeks. I've been taking in my liquids just fine. Today was my dietitian appointment. I was skipping to my appointment because I knew today is the day that she would allow me to eat mushy food in addition to my liquids. She said I can eat refried Beans, substitute eggs, cottage cheese, and yogurt. But I can only have TWO TABLESPOONS of it per meal. My mouth dropped. I assumed that I would be able to eat up to 2-2 and a half ounces. But is the two tablespoons normal at this stage? -

I was eating more than 2 tbsp of yogurt in the hospital. Just really slow. Also I was able to have 1/2 to 1 cup of Greek yogurt for a meal. I just ate really slow. You're eating about like I'm eating and I'm sticking to my doctors and NUTs menu to a T. So ni, don't worry, we're just fine! -
2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

That doesn't sound right. Yogurt was considered a "full liquid" for the purposes of my diet stages, so I was allowed to have as much of it as I could tolerate. -

That doesn't sound right. Yogurt was considered a "full liquid" for the purposes of my diet stages, so I was allowed to have as much of it as I could tolerate. That's what I thought too from reading everyone's responses over these past months. I thought that yogurt would be one of the foods that I could totally eat. But she limited me to 2 tablespoons. I asked again to clarify. She said take two bites of your yogurt and put it back in the fridge. -

Hi Refried Beans are a good source of Protein I love Mexican so this works well so one of my meals the I make is refried beans, cheddar cheese warmed together then I add plain greek yogurt to the top. this meal gives me 22 grams of protein Plain greek is a terrific substitute for sour cream. I also eat mashed potatoes and mix them with milk and shredded parmesan cheese and greek yogurt. I also add unflavored protein. Cottage cheese egg salad are pretty good too and I add unflavored protein Hope this Helps -
I was banded on Oct 1 and am just starting to get the hunger pains you are describing- I am also drinking Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch with light Snacks like yogurt as a filler. But, I have stalled in my weight loss, lost about 45 pounds since starting the pre-op diet- I asked my surgeon last time I was in (for my first post op appt) and he explained that I may not see any pounds come off right away, but more inches. I didn't want to hear that- but it has been true- I have lost 4 pant sizes since starting the pre-op diet. I am hoping that my first fill gives me more restriction. Don't eat anything that you aren't supposed to- you can really hurt yourself- so even if you think you have no restriction, you do and you won't find out until its too late....

Ate a whole 5oz cup of yogurt
SnohoGal98296 replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on Day 4 and I ate about 6 oz of yogurt today too - I took me quite a bit a longer, but for about an hour afterwards I felt as if I had eaten a big meal - I had my husband walk me around the yard, it really helped - walking helps with my tummy rumbling and swallowed air pain. But - I was still surprised that I could consume the yogurt - it took about 30-40 minutes total. I do have to say that today is the first time where I feel more human again. The first 3 days (surgery day being day 0) had me feeling pretty wifty in the head, I couldn't drink anything more substantial than water with a splash of G2, I did find that Unjury Chicken Broth really helped me to be able to consume some protein because I was really worried about how little actually calories I was eating. But today is a new day and I am feeling so good that I am not too concerned about the yogurt. Day 14 is when I transition to Soft Foods. -
Ate a whole 5oz cup of yogurt
Forsythia replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the most part, yogurt goes down fairly easily. a 5 or 6 oz container is pretty easy to eat. 2.5 oz of chicken salad and a half ounce of cheese will fill me up quite quickly. The chicken is much more sold and therefore takes up more space, even when I am doing my best to chew chew chew it down. Its been almost two months since the procedure. If someone saw me eating a container of yogurt, they would never realize I had any surgery. Seeing me portion out the chicken salad though makes you realize how small the stomach really is! -
Isopure Unflavored. You can add it to the yogurt and the soups you like. It won't change the flavor at all.

At what point in time is this ok to try and eat?
-
Try Greek yogurt with pineapple in it, it will curve your craving !

No I. Don't think it does. A drop in Greek yogurt shouldn't really be an issue. I think for those of us like my husband who are sweetening everything they drink and half of what they eat...well, whole different ball game

I know it's been so much easier than I anticipated. I'm feeling very blessed for that. My program doesn't have me starting protein until tomorrow. I won't have any problems because I love Greek yogurt, protein pudding, genepro flavorless powder for soup. Are you already doing protein? I am doing cream of wheat in the morning though. I hope you're doing better tomorrow. Are you on Pepcid?
-
I've been worrying about that too... I'm still on full liquids and don't have much restriction at all... and everyone says well wait till you get to the puree stage... but in my head, pureed food isn't much different in consistency than pudding or yogurt, so I don't know how I'll feel then (I do have more restriction with those things than with clear liquids, but really not a whole lot).
-
Today I had cream of wheat with a little agave. Propel water, protein pudding, cup of half broth and half cream of mushroom soup strained of course, added my genepro flavorless powder, water, 1/2 Greek yogurt 1/2 applesauce. So far I'm at 55 grams of protein. I'm happy.

Hi - I too was banded on 4/28/08! During my pre-op testing it was discovered that I had many gall stones, as well as a hietal (sp?) hernia. Had to have the gall bladder removed, hernia repaired and was banded all at the same time. I'm on liquids as well as soft foods (shredded cheese, yogurt..); not hungry at all. Judy

i usually bring cold cut rollups, meatballs in sauce, grilled chicken breast, hard boiled egg with salt and pepper, mini babybel cheese or a cheese stick/string cheese, a greek yogurt with a teaspoon of sf chocolate chips to add some "dessert like quality" - could add almonds or nuts too, i'm just not cleared for those yet). so long as you have a fridge available, of course!

Post Op Week 1 And Hungry, But Not Head Hungry!
deb_fox replied to IwantTHATshu's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved on 6/11/12. My Doctor gave me a prescription for Prilosec to fill before I went in for the surgery so that it was at home waiting for me. He has all of his patients take it for 6 months after surgery. I never had reflux in my life, but I don't want to take chances, so I open the capsule everyday and add it to my crushed medications and I eat away with my yogurt or applesauce. By the way, my Doctor also says I have to crush pills for 4 months This makes me gag when I eat it. -
Not doing good with foods!
FitnFabfor2014 replied to sweetjam69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try eating less. Maybe a tablespoon is all your body can handle right now. Believe me any less and I would be eating air. I have found that some of the foods I loved and could tolerate before DO NOT agree with my body. I have to stick with water and lowfat, no fruit yogurts for now. The sugar content in most of those Greek yogurts are ridiculous. I haven't touched those. My sugar intake should be less than 10g. I ate a small amount of butternut squash Soup and I can already feel that's not gonna work for me either. By the time I'm done with this pre-op diet I will be on a whole different diet. Not complaining, actually excited to see where this will go. I will find a whole knew way of eating....goodness knows I don't need to go back into old eating habits.
