    Dry skin...

I believe that good skin happens from the inside out. Hydration, nutrition etc. Slathering on a bunch of lotions helps in appearance and prevents the loss of water in the outermost layer of our skin. Does dry go away after Bariatric surgery? IDK, I'm only six weeks out but hopeful.
  2. Congratulations 🎊🎉. I am the same as you! I hate waiting-especially when it’s something I’m really looking forward to. Thankfully the approval process wasn’t long. On May 1st my navigator informed me she’d be submitting my request that week. On May 11,2023 she called and said that I’d been approved. I was able on that Wed to see the approval in my BCBS app. On 5/15 the secretary called to schedule me for 6/5/23. I started this journey back on 2/21/23. It was rough lol. My navigator said she at one point thought I was about to give up…. She was right lol 😂. But here I am!!! I’m following this to see your surgery date!! It seems like we’ll be really close in dates!! Congratulations again

    Dry skin...

Yes, blame it on the hormonal change. I was never one to use lotions etc but after the surgery I try to. I got the rinse body lotion so I use it before getting out of the shower and do not forget. I also have very dry scalp, I use coconut oil once a week but I heard castor oil is also good for hair loss. Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I think that the straw that broke the camel's back, was not being able to get into ketosis, despite fasting and eating very low carb for three weeks straight. I figured that my metabolism was broken at that point. I was diabetic, had high cholesterol, and my blood pressure was slowing creeping up. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
  5. Hi Folks! I've been browsing the community for awhile now, but with my sleeve scheduled in two weeks (May 30), it's time to dig in. Does anyone have any recommendations for resources (articles, videos, books?) for partners/spouses/family members who might benefit from a bit more education (or, reality check?) about what they can expect as a support person for a sleeve patient? I have tried to explain as much as I can to my husband and I believe he wants to be helpful, and he's taking off the first week to help me recover and deal with the kids and household, BUT I would love for him to understand the sheer gravity of this life change. I feel like hearing this information from someone besides me would be really valuable. Like, I am not going to want to cook meals for the two of us the way I used to. He may be on his own for meals A LOT, especially the first 6 months to year. I've told him this, but I wish he could hear it from another source. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
  6. I know of some people who had it done in 2022, so I was intrigued but continued to try to do it on my own and failing. A week before I called the doctor I went to the Grand Canyon, and among the pictures my husband asked why I was posing a certain way. I wasn't. It hit me that I was no longer 230 but nearing 290, and I had no control of my body. I was sleeved 2 months after that day. Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post op pain

I’m 2 weeks out as well and yes I have the stinging feeling near my belly button. The NP said it’s from swelling and advice I take ibuprofen 4 hrs apart from Tylenol.
  8. Little bit about me... Had the lap band in spring 2007 after hitting a high of 450... dropped down in to the 320s... stalled, had some different life issues cause some emotional issue... needless to say I bounced back up nearer to the 380s at one point. Settled in around 360 and decided to go get a revision to DS... which was Friday. Weight at surgery was right about 360. Stepped on my home scale this morning... 338.4. It's a lot in a short time. I feel like a million bucks, though. I've taken minimal painkillers other than tylenol in the last couple days. Woke up with some pain in the center of my back and couldn't really get comfortable after that... so I took one of my happy pills this morning at 8. I've done a good job staying hydrated, slightly under protein target but working on it. I've been able to move around the house (up and down stairs as well) without much issue. All the internal plumbing is working. Follow-up is tomorrow morning with the surgeon. Should I be waiting for the other shoe to drop? Am I doing *too* well to expect this will continue? Is reality going to kick my butt in the next few days?
  9. My husband went on a camping/hiking/biking trip with his buddy. While he was away, I got caught up in my feelings, wishing that he and I could do something like that as a couple, but knowing that I wouldn't be able to keep up, would be uncomfortable, tired, sweaty, etc. I started googling, found a surgeon who was having an initial class for potential patients, and signed up for the class. A week later, I picked up my husband from his camping trip, and told him I was going to have WLS. I was scared to tell him, but he was so supportive, and I knew I'd made the right decision. It's been a dream life ever since!!! We still talk about the day I picked him up from his trip and announced my surgery! LOL!!
  10. I’m a side sleeper too. I found a binder or spanx helped. It took about 2 weeks to feel comfortable sleeping. It turned out stomach sleeping was most comfortable.
  11. I’m 3 weeks post op RNY and am now beyond the period of post op pain etc, feeling physically good. But the mind work has been on-going. A friend asked me what my final straw was given there are injectables out there etc and I had to think about it. I didn’t have a crushing moment- it was more a collective of discomforts and feelings of being on the outside looking in, always. It was not finding clothes that fit, turning down invites bc I felt uncomfortable in my body, never wanting to eat in public (like strolling with an ice cream) for fear I’d be called out- essentially the meanness that I encountered on a daily basis. The scrutiny by me on myself was far more viscous than anything anyone might throw down but I didn’t like the wall I’d built up to protect me from the world. Did you have a moment or was it a slow unfolding that brought you to going forward with surgery? Thanks for your candor and vulnerability on this one ❤️

Puking my guts out today :(

When I went to sip my water 30 minutes after the steak meal, I knew something was wrong. It hurt when it hit my stomach then came back up. I waited and tried again. Same for the next few hours. I guess I could have laid down and tried to let it pass but read steak can sit in your stomach for a long while? Plus, I reasoned if it's blocked, why not get rid of it naturally instead of paying a doctor to go in and fish it out. Hopefully vomiting didn't do any damage 6 weeks post-op and I knew I needed my water, so I kept drinking every 30 minutes, till it went down. Water would always initially cause a small pain after a solids meal for me, so sometimes I'd wait an hour before drinking anything. But it was usually only that first sip, then things would pass through. I'm ok now and back to eating softer foods for the time being. I'm in no hurry to go through that again. And yes, I agree. If not being able to sip water without it coming back up had continued, I would have called my doctor or headed for the ER.
  13. Can't say I avoided it. The stall hit me hard & it lasted almost 4 weeks
  14. I slept on my back mostly prop on 2 to 3 pillows at first, but little by little I was trying to sleep on my side. I would mimic the side position with my legs even though my torso was straight lol. I started doing a towel rolled and sleeping at an angle, by 3 weeks I was sleeping on my side peacefully.
  15. I'm a side sleeper as well, but I think it took about three weeks before i could comfortably sleep on my side again. Until then, I had to sleep on my back (ugh...not used to that..)

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

You are absolutely right the only thing about this is that liquid diet thing. Can I handle this for 2 weeks prior to surgery that's why I'm getting started, but yeah I've cut out a whole heck of a lot of things preparing for this, breads, pastas none of that I eat, not even soda, and then dealing with it after surgery I wish I can stay in the hospital for a week after surgery at least that way I know things will be done right

    Taking Ursodiol for Gallbladder

I took that for the first few months (3? 6? can't remember), but I think it was a tablet - and it was just one per day. I don't remember the mg, but it was likely equivalent to your three capsules. Yes - just call your nurse and ask (ursodiol is a generic - so whatever version you have must have come from a different company than mine)
  18. I was prescribed 600 mg a day of ursodiol to prevent gallbladder problems beginning today at 3 weeks. Each capsule is 200 mg. If you had similar RX, did you spread out taking throughout the day or take all at once? Just wondering if my pouch can absorb all three capsules at one time. Thank you for any advice on this. I’ll call my nurse today but it often takes them a long time to respond.

    May 2023 surgeries

So good to hear from you Gabbie! I was the same, pain and nausea. It gets better quickly. I just take a preventative tablet for reflux now, a week out. I'm living on broth lol. It's half my daily fluid intake. I also have a protien water, flavoured ice stick and jelly. Getting about 64 ounces with that. Going home is the best! Take care.
  20. It took about 2-3 weeks before I could lay on my side. It'll get better, hang in there.
  21. Try a body pillow or regular pillow under your tummy. I went from using a wedge pillow to sleep in more of an incline, to the body pillow, then a regular pillow. I've been sleeping fine on my side for about a week. My rny was may 1.

5 days Post op and cheated

You won’t be alone in doing this but do remember all those sutures & staples holding your tummy together. The staged return to eating solid food is in place to protect your healing tummy & support your recovery. I found the shakes awful too. I’d have a diluted one in the morning but then had cream soups (strain so no lumps or fibrous bits) & broths (bone is very good but can be salty). Make your own yoghurt drink by blending yoghurt (plain Greek) & milk. You can add some protein powder too. Just keep everything thin so it goes down easily. It’s only for two weeks. You’ll get through it.

    I’m back after 13 years!

I was banded Nov.2011. I was 375 got lowest 170...Started over on my journey having gotten too relaxed and bad eating habits. Acid reflux has been my enemy few times having fluid removed and by the time life hit with deaths in family .Up and down weight. 2023 came and had to have gallbladder removed and diagnosed with diverticulitis. Started over with lap-band and eating extremely different. Back on liquid and protein..Starting over is scary 260 last week..this week 256...uugh!! I know one day at a time ...learn from mistakes also and I got to do better...
  24. Wow ! Congrats ! I’m almost 2 weeks post surgery and still bloating and haven’t lost any weight since surgery. Hopefully I’ll finally drop some in the next 2 weeks
  25. I’m on a 4 week pre-op liquid diet! Yikes!
