My heaviest weight was 370. In 2010 I had the band installed (such a mistake, waste of time, money and effort IMO) March 10th, 2018 at my Pre-Surgical check in I was 310. March 21st, 2018 at check in for surgery I was 294.4. I had the band removed and revised to the bypass. Today, January 23rd, 2019. 308 days after surgery... I hit a number that I haven't seen in more than 20 years Onederland. I'm down 95 lbs since surgery, 110.6 lbs from pre-surgical. And a staggering 170.6 lbs from my heaviest weight. I need to thank so many people that if I tried, I'd forget someone and then we'd start with the hard feelings. So I'll go with this. Thank you. If you've helped me through this in any way, shape, or form, Thank you.

Well on Monday 7/30/07 @ 7:30 am my band is officially leaving me! I found out on 6/1/07 that I had a slip with some errosion and was trying to hold out for my insurance to cover a revision from Lap Band to RNY, but my stomach will not let me wait any longer. The reflux is so bad and the esophogitis is really painful even being on 3 different meds to try and help settle things for a bit (nexium, carafate, and reglan). My paperwork went in this afternoon for my revision surgery and it was a total joy to have to do EVERY little thing over from scratch again (cardio, psych eval, pulmonary, dietary, support group, endoscopy, colonoscopy, abdominal sono and primary care MD). So unfortunately I'm going to have 2 surgeries now :car: I'll probably have the RNY revision after 8/27 when I get my daughter settled into her freshman year at college. So this is my tale of woe for now Jane

What Was Your Bmi When You Were Sleeved?
M2G replied to kimmr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There is a member here named Jax who was a band to sleeve revision who only had about 15lbs or so to lose. I know she lost the 15 plus a few more so I'm sure she had a relatively low BMI when she was sleeved. And she has been easily maintaining. -
I am scheduled for 5/28 ( next Monday). I chose Dr. Ortiz cause a friend had her revision surgery ( from band to sleeve) w/ him @ OCC 6 mo. ago. She was VERY pleased w/ surgeon, staff, facility and had no complications. She will be going with me when I go. BTW -- SHE LOOKS AWESOME! MY PCP is aware I am going to MX. She did say she would do labs / normal health care but wouldn't treat anything to do with the surgery. I have not told my boss. I may send him an email prior just to advise I am having elective surgery while out on PTO (vacation).

Anyone had surgery with a BMI of 33 or lower?
Rev Me Up! replied to razn4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, My BMI was 31. I was a lap-band revision, so my situation was a little bit different. No way insurance would have covered my surgery - I wasn't sick enough, heavy enough, and I was not in imminenet danger from my band. In total, I had to lose 60 pounds from the day of surgery. I am one month out and have lost 16 pounds. It's hard for me to say if my experience has been any harder or easier than someone with a higher BMI - the recovery is tough no matter who you are. If you are trying to go through insurance, it will depend on their obesity guidelines. However, there are a lot of great surgeons who will do the surgery at your BMI - you won't be the first, and you won't have been the smallest! Lara -
Almost 7 years post op - gained half back. Recommiting
Itsgood2Bqueen replied to loridee11's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I had a 2nd slip last year and the doc did a revision (first time it slipped I had a doc who didn't believe they worked even though I had lost 72 lbs in 7 months -I started at 237- so he simply emptied it without doing any imaging to see how bad it was. I agree that it isn't the same. Doesn't mean it won't work if I go back to basics. I too have gained half of it back. Saw these posts and decided it was time to start logging food and exercise. Keeps me honest because I weigh, measure and put it in writing. Good luck to you. You aren't doing this walk alone. -
I'm sorry. . I guess it's better to be safe than sorry but that won't make you feel better. What a bummer. I did just see someone who had to go back for a revision 6 months out of their sleeve because of scar tissue. This might save you a different complication later. Still, I'm bummed for you!

My Doc said the same thing. In fact she said she almost cringes when some opt for the band because she has done so many revisions. -

Possible revision from lapband to bypass..LOTS of questions!
flygirl022812 replied to marieze's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Had my Surgery 6-4-15, best decision ever, don't regret it at all. I had the lapband in 2010 and revised to RNY in 2015. I only lost 30lbs with Lapband and over the years had issues with the band, I'm so glad I revised to RNY I've lost 58lbs so far and still slowly dropping SW 230 CW 172 GW 150 or whatever looks good to me -
Sleeve or band
UsernameTaken replied to CrissyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had the band for 9 years and am scheduled to have revision to bypass in 2 weeks (omg!) I cannot weight to get it removed and I would also not recommend anyone getting it. Yes some people were successful with it and love it but it seems most are not, I was never a fan of having foreign item in my body but I was too scared to go with bypass the first time around, I wish I did though. The decision is yours but I would not go with band. -
I was banded in 2012. I have not had any success with it at all. The first 6 weeks I lost 20 pounds but every since it's been a struggle. I am now above my start weight and miserable. I am wanting to do a revision surgery but I don't even know where to start. I don't really like my doctor but I guess I am going to have to start with him.

7 week Sleeve to MGB before/after pic
NuHorizons replied to NuHorizons's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Here's the link to my testimony after my surgery. Please read it. If you have any more questions let me. I'm down 64lbs total since my revision. My weight loss is much better than when I first got my sleeve in 2010. I plan on giving a detailed update next week around my 5month post op. -
How long did it take to get a revision from band to sleeve if it slipped
skinnyminnieme posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just wondering, i have Medicare and Medicaid in mass and wanted to know how long it took the insurance company to approve for a revision. -
I'm so glad I got my revision! I love my new stomach! She's doing great by me but she doesn't like ice cream or anything too sweet!

So I am just over 5 months post op revision to Bypass and I am coming to a block/stall/halt..... whatever it may be in my weight loss. I only lost 2.6 lbs last month. I do great during the day but in the evening and night my cravings and hunger/head hunger are out of control, which makes me snack and crave sweets. But, I really think that the sugar free tea that I am drinking in the evenings is causing my cravings to be worse. I only have water during the day, but after work and at night I drink this tea (which I have a bit of an addiction to) It is sugar free, calorie free, carb free, but when I drink it I seen to have really bad cravings for sweets and sometimes salty snacks. I believe it has splenda in it. I don't know if it is the time of day that is my issues or the tea triggering an issue. So lord help me I am going to go cold turkey. No tea for one week and see what happens. I dearly love my sugar free tea so I am a bit panicked but I have to get the scale moving again!!!!!

I'm 28! Im new to this whole thing. I currently have the band, but am scheduled to have the band to sleeve revision on Dec. 31st. Im a bit nervous. Anyone have any advice?

MPW09, I too had a sweet tooth and also had type 2 diabetes and on the lap band was able to keep eating sweets as the healthier foods never would go down for me and I would PB. My diabetes worsened with the lap band because of that. I didnt know all the junk food would still go through the band I only thought something like ice cream or sugar drinks would be an issue. I'm much older than you and was at the point where I couldn't even lose weight anymore, forget the keep it off part and due to my health I had the lap band removed and eight months later revised to RNY. I'm fairly new at it and know the effect sugar will have on me now and it's not pleasant. I also don't crave it like I used to (knock on wood)when I was banded and before and am off my diabetic meds completely. I know it's not a "popular" view here at LBT but thought you might as well hear the other side of it from someone also. Good luck to you which ever surgery you choose. Nancy.

Why do so many struggle with the band
sleeve_sister replied to Fiddleman's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I too was a bander at one time. I worked in a hospital and there were 5 of us who got it including my husband. In the beginning we all had success, however, for me it was short lived. I only lost 24 lbs and gained almost 50 back. After a few years my restriction was getting worse and I decided to look into the revision. I found out several things...my band was placed too high (by a different surgeon), when he sutured the band to my stomach the sutures punctured my stomach in two places, and my band was ulcerated. I had to first get my band removed to allow the ulcer and my stomach heal and then three months later went back for the sleeve. My husband established care with a surgeon a few weeks ago only to find out that his band was "too tight." Which resulted in weight gain from almost two years of eating slider foods. As for the other 3 women who had the band in 2009 and 2010 when we did, NONE of them are happy with their bands and two are looking into revision now that they've seen my success. Yes, the band was the craze several years ago, however, the surgeon who did my sleeve...his practice is no longer doing them because of all the complications and failure rates. Also, the sleeve is not as "new" as some believe. Back when the bypass began 20 plus years ago, they used to do the sleeve on super obese patients as a first surgery to get their weight down to minimize the risks of the bypass surgery. A lot of these patients lost so much weight and never bothered going back for the second part of the surgery. If you look under anniversaries...a few weeks ago I seen someone celebrating her 20th year post op. It's believed that the sleeve will have better ratings than the bypass, but since it hasn't been an exclusive surgery as long as the bypass it will take several years for the statistics to show it. As for your SIL, the sleeve is very different than the band and she will be thrilled with the success compared to the lack of with the band! -
Please help! Infection at port area

PAID POSTERS!!? Too bad the AZ OH boards aren't reading about what he's doing to this poor woman. They should know about this. This person should report him to the medical board. I am wondering why didn't he didn't give her antibiotics in the first place for that size of an infection? Ignoring internal infection is very serious - people can die from infection! In fact, TJWOOD hasn't posted lately and the last message said she had 103+ fever!! Interesting that his office told TJ that the doctor wouldn't be in the office until Tuesday. I just looked at the AZ OH board for fun and someone whose profile name is "Lizzie" just posted on her profile today that he performed revision surgery on her LAST Friday, Nov. 21st! So, apparently, he WAS in town! But, I guess he was only available for new patients! $$$$ TJ, please give us an update! I'm concerned! Even more so because your doctor's office lied to you! This is awful beyond words! -
Please help! Infection at port area
WASaBubbleButt replied to TJWOOD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Schlesinger??? Oh Lord... I had no idea. I wish I would have seen this sooner. Schlesinger has more paid posters than any other AZ doc, not here but on OH. It's sickening to see them in action. Check out the revision boards on Obesity Help - Weight Loss Surgery, Obesity Support Groups, Obesity Forums, Surgical Procedures and you'll see what I mean. If anyone writes anything the least bit negative about the doc on the patient testimonials the paid posters dog pile them. OP... you seriously need to have an upper endoscopy to rule out erosion. When you have a port infection the bacteria can often times travel up the tubing to the band and cause erosion. This is a big deal. Are you in AZ? If there is anything I can do to help please let me know. Stay on top of this, don't let any doctor pooh pooh this, this is a big deal. You can lose your band over something like this. As for Simpson... he's okay. I don't like that he doesn't follow his patients after surgery, the rest of his staff do. There are several very good surgeons in Phoenix and surrounding areas. Burger and Aldridge in Flag are good, St. Lukes docs are good. OP, if there is anything I can do to help please let me know. -
I had my surgical consultation today for revision, but on the off chance that it is not deemed medically necessary for revision, I do qualify for bariatric surgery in general, repeating all of the requirements as if it were a new procedure. My question is regarding Cigna coverage. Most plans require a monitored 3, 6 or 12 month diet/nutrition/weight loss management through PCP or somewhere similar. Cigna's policy says NOTHING about this, only that "a statement from a physician other than the surgeon, that the individual has failed previous attempts to achieve and maintain weight loss by medical management" - it gives no other requirements or indicators. I called Cigna today to inquire and they couldn't tell me anything more about this. So, for those of you that have been approved in the past few months (Cigna's policy requirements look to be effective 10/9/18 through 7/15/19), what did you provide for this? I have to have a letter from my primary anyway that recommends bariatric surgery. Would this be the same letter or separate? And what did you submit/have your PCP write to say that you had failed previous attempts? Thanks in advance for your help!

Reno or N. Nevada Bandsters out there???
girlygirlz replied to Success in lapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Dawn welcome! You can get your fills right here in Reno! We have an excellent Bariatric practice which is made up of four surgeons called Western Bariatric. They are a American Society for Bariatric Surgery Center of Execellence and my surgeon has talked about doing revisions for people who have had surgery elsewhere so I would think they will do fills too. Their phone # is 775-789-9192. -
Sue, Per my doctor's orders I was on liquids the first day and then could eat normally again after that. Just told not to go crazy. I didn't revise at the time and had no complications either. Good luck to you, Nancy.
