Please don't feel like you are failing. It's to soon into the process for that! Regroup and realize that this is a long journey, it's not going to be easy, but quitting is not an option. It meant enough to you to see yourself healthy that you had surgery to ensure it. Now just trust in the process. You will be able to eat regular food. I personally can eat everything I did before the surgery, just alot less of it. If the protein shake seem to thick or heavy do some thinner liquids, just make sure you drink enough so you don't get dehydrated. It isn't as much of an ending of everything, as it is the beginning. You can do it!

shrinking your liver
mwestcons replied to Vandylin hughey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein protein protein! Severely limit your carbs, sugars and fats! My hospital put me on a pre-operative diet of 3 Protein shakes a day (50-70g protein/day) and a small meal consisting of 4oz of meat, a 1/2 cup of a starch (potato, rice, etc.) 1 tsp fat, one small fruit, 1 dairy serving. 2 weeks of that and my liver didn't need to be resected allowing them 4 "holes" in my tummy instead of 5 - which I am sure greatly speeds up recovery time! -

Liver Reducing diet failure.....
reachbree replied to oceangirlpc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is your surgery date? I am in the exact same situation as you except I was on liquids yesterday and had one healthy choice frozen entrée (veggies and meat only, 4 carbs, 27g Protein, 1g sugar) and of course my Water and Protein drinks and a 30 min walk. Woke up this morning to gaining almost 3lbs. I have NO idea why this is happening to me! it happened last week also, very restricted diet and I gain weight. When I first started 2 weeks ago I quickly dropped 4lbs...then it just stopped. I am going straight liquid today and might have to until my op. My surgery is next Thursday 6/16....6 days from today and I am devastated that my weight is going in the opposite direction when it should be going down, has me thinking if this surgery is even going to work for me if my body is going to be so stubborn. Hang in there! I truly believe that if we can stay strong and breeze through this part of the process, will make the early weeks after the surgery a lot easier on us. -
Did I Stretch My Stomatch?
KeileeWilliams replied to KeileeWilliams's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I forgot to mention for the first 2 weeks after surgery I was dehydrated because I didn’t drink protein shakes because I couldn’t get them down. I wasn’t drinking at all, barely a few sips of water a day. So when I got on the purée stage is when I started to eat and drink again. -
Please give your review of Unjury cheese sauce.

Thanks for all of your replies! I suspect there are more who dislike it than like it, so I will pass on ordering it and just get regular cheeses sauce and cheese. After all, regular cheeses have a lot of Protein in them! I do like their Protein shakes as well, but they are sweetened with sucralose and I am trying to stay away from artificial sweeteners. I'm sticking with stevia sweetened protein and plain for now. The Vitamins, are awful. My daughter tasted one and said it tasted like fruit loops and broccoli! I'm going to use them up, but I won't reorder. The D3 is not bad, but the multi and Calcium are not very pleasant, to say the least. -

The taste was ok for the cheese sauce. Just like some Protein powders are only ok. But I actually found it was more calories than I wanted to use on something that's just ok. I gave it to a relative that has a toddler that is currently not eating meat. She mixes in with other cheese stuff and says the whole family doesn't notice. But again that would prolly be more calories than I would want to eat. For the poster that said the chicken broth was salty, I found that if I mixed it with 10 oz of Water (or even veggie broth) instead 8 oz I didn't notice the salt. I also used it as a broth base for other Soups and as long as I didn't add any additional salt I thought it was fine. As for their chewable Vitamins, you're not going to get around that taste. They have a lot of Iron and that is just gonna taste like a Vitamin no matter what. But of all other comparable vitamins, I still think they are best in taste and offer the most vitamins. -

You might want to ask if you can just try a couple of pkgs. I recently tried them & I feel like I was missing out - their shakes are really good. I am not a fan of protein shakes, but these were honestly good -

I was wondering about the Unjury Cheese sauce. I have the plain and chicken soup. I was attempting to add some options that weren't sweet. Thanks for the reviews! -
Gaining control of my eating...
Bullwinkle commented on Bullwinkle's blog entry in Bullwinkle's Journal
Yesterday was a great day eating-wise. I think I'm getting things under control now. I've lost a few pounds (water weight) since Monday. As usual, I had my coffee with half-n-half and Sweet-n-Low in the morning, then I sipped on a diet orange Faygo until noon. For lunch, I had a generic SlimFast shake, and a Lipton cup-o-soup, chicken noodle, and when the cup became half empty, I'd fill it with more hot water. I did that a few times until the chicken broth tasted more and more like just hot water. It filled my stomach, so I wasn't hungry for food. Then I drank Diet Snapple the rest of the afternoon. It was very tempting about 3:30pm to eat one of the tootsie rolls from the candy dish in the office, but I didn't. At home after work I had my usual 16-ounce cup of instant coffee. Dinner was a little polish sausage and sauerkraut, and a slice of Swiss cheese. Later I had a low carb tortilla with some home made chicken salad on it (chicken, boiled eggs, mayo, onion). I also had a protein bar with 3 net grams of carbs. So, I was fully satiated yesterday and can only say that I experienced hunger once all day long. I know that I cannot make a habit of having protein bars AND food in the same meal, so I'll work on that today. Onward..... -
Disappointed with myself
Katy517 replied to Tally23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance didn't have a pre-op weight loss requirement, but my nutritionist really worked with me on incorporating eating habits that would help after being banded. Things like choosing lean proteins, eating proteins first, chewing my food thoroughly and not drinking before, during or immediately after mealtimes. Just those changes enabled me to take off and keep off five pounds prior to the pre-op liquid diet. I'm grateful for it and encourage you that it's not too late to make positive changes that will make your transition to being banded that much easier. Good luck. -
One year band anniversary today!!!!!
Froggie D replied to esv2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it is all about controlling my hunger and cravings. I know that carbs are the issue I have to watch. I try to avoid all starches like bread, potatoes, rice, and all sweets by not having them around. If I eat them, my appetite, especially for them, increases dramatically. I try to stick with lean meats (chicken, turkey, diet lean burger, shrimp, pork tenderloin, etc.) low carb veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, zuchinni, green Beans, peppers, mushrooms, cucumbers, salad greens, etc), occasionally beans of all sorts, and limited fresh fruits. If I am hungry I bump up my Protein with Protein powder. That way my hunger stays in better control. I was banded April 7 and have had two fills so far and have 2.5cc in my band. I am looking forward to another fill next week. My band is great, but what I put in it makes a world of difference. I am better when I stay away from heavy carbs. The band has helped tremendouly but my chioces make a lot of difference. Good luck wiht your exercise and food choices. It is not easy, but can be done! -
@@Spooney Ha! I had that same question! I don't think I ever really got an answer, seeing as how they are a liquid that's how I treated them. The not drinking water is in part to help not push the food through so fast to where you can eat more so protein drinks won't be an issue....I don't think.

Who shares my Happy Band Day 10-29-07?
victoria52 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So we are officially 1 week post op. How are ya'll doing? I am pretty darn good, and going to work tomorrow for the first time since surg. Still am having a little feeling of stomach swelling from time to time, but overall way less sore. Lost 13 # on my less than 2 week high protein, low carb diet and have lost 3 more since the day of surgery. I'm happy about that, still on full liquid diet, I think for 1 more week. Good luck to you all and I wish you a speedy recovery and great success. -

I hope you dont mind but I thought I would share this on your thread. I know we all want to get in that protein and eggs are a good way then with the holidays people have problems getting those pretty peeled boild eggs to share and dont know why.. here is a tip or two:Its getting to be that time of year when we boil those eggs. Do you know how to boil a egg? Don't boil them. Put your eggs in the pot of water, add a spoon of salt and bring it to a rolling boil then turn them off and cover then with a lid. Let them set for about 15 minutes. They will be hard boiled and the yellow wont be that green color. For easy to peel eggs used older dated eggs. Just because the date is on them that don't mean they are no longer good past that date. Some a few days to week past that date will peel much easier for you. Cool them then roll the egg on the counter top then it should come right off without tearing the egg all to pices.

Muscle Milk light. 20g Protein, 160 calories. chocolate flavor is my favorite. They come premixed, ready to drink or they also have powder form. If you're having trouble getting in enough, there is a "New whey liquid protein" 42g protein and 180 calories at GNC and elsewhere I'm sure. I don't like the taste of these, but they are small quanity, maybe like 4oz or so. Lots of protein in such a small volume. -

I suggest EAS Soy Protein powder from Walmart. It is vanilla and when mixed with milk tastes like vanilla pudding (somewhat). I've been putting a spoonful of Peanut Butter in with it for added protein and flavor. Yummy! -

I'm having protein shakes but even just two a day is tough! I need to just suck it up and do it. It will make me feel better I'm sure. -
Funny I am the opposite. I am doing high protein, low carb right now, surgery is June 25th. I figured I have eaten anything I have wanted for so long, that I need to start training myself to eat correctly before surgery so it is not such a shock to my system!

I have been on WW many times over the years. A good friend of mine is even a WW leader! When I was in my 20's, I lost 25lbs' on WW, and thought I could do it again. But as the years went on, my eating became more compulsive, I became obese (although only a 35 BMI, it was bad enough.) Many co-morbidities reared their ugly heads. I watched friends eat and exercise worse than me and lose, while I stayed the same weight. I spent many weigh in's near tears. I had this surgery to get healthy. Now my blood sugar is under control, and soon I expect to see my sleep apnea and high cholesterol disappear. You may have thinning hair for a bit, your stretched-out skin may sag, but you will be PROTECTING your health. If your BMI says you are clinically obese, you need to consider seriously what staying obese means to your health. Try to think beyond appearances only. Only you can decide if this option is right for you. Personally, I would NEVER go back!

You do not have to go chewable, there are some very quality liquid options. I use Max Effect, got it from Vitmin Shoppe. Great profile and it tastes very good. http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=U9-1003#.UR6-AWfyB8E

What Kind of Protein Bar Do You Perfer?
ksc1965 replied to enjoythetime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Power Crunch bars taste really good. Fewer grams of Protein than the bar you bought but still "good" as bars go. And like I said, you can't beat the taste. Have only been able to find them at Wal-Mart and Meijer. chocolate, vanilla and Peanut Butter. For chocolate bar. .. Calories= 205 Fat=13g Carbs=10g Protein=13g -
I'm only 2 weeks out and my body just can't tolerate the protein shakes I think because of the milk content, it's making me feel sick. I am having 5-6 tiny meals a day plus juice or water. I eat like a baby. Like Terrylynn, I eat when I'm hungry. I don't count calories since the amounts of food I am eating a so small and low in fat anyway. I would suggest you experiment, that is what my surgeon here in Australia suggested and it is working well for me - remember we are all different and what works for one person may not work for you.
