    Friday Morning Weigh-in, April 24th

I am 2 lbs (almost 3 but I don't record the decimal) down this week. I am doing the Happy Dance. That is the best week that I have had since September. I think recording my food on MyDailyPlate is really helpful. I am also working out more and harder. I did a frontal workout yesterday with a Jillian Michael's DVD and I am sore from the waist up today but I think that is great. I also had an NSV that is significant to me. My 16 year old daughter is slightly overweight and has Pervasive Developmental Delays. She has lost 10 lbs (down to 170 from 180) since I got my lapband. She is not really dieting but we are all trying to be wiser about our food and exercise choices and it is paying off for her.

    Motivate Me

im not trying to be bitchy, but really ... 99% of the successes on this board exercise. it not only helps with health, it helps mood as well. you can do this!! Question, When does the scale MOVE? I have been so good since the day I got home from being banded, food & Exercisce wise.. Gave up my chips, martinis, cake & diet cokes ., and replaced with exercise 5/6 days a week. I was banded the same day as DH, so the house is completely swept of crap food / drink to avoid temtation of any kind. I bought us gym memberships last Feb when we decided to go with the band, and I didn't enter back until 4 wks out of surgery. I'm getting a little frustrated with the damn scale not moving. I'm not starving, don't over eat, eat healthy high Protein 3 meals a day, drink more Water than a camel should need and I'm ready to SCREAM. Not going to give up, just like the motivation in the scale variety. I go for my third fill next wk, maybe that will kick drive things? I recognize NSV in clothes / face etc.....just like to see the lbs start to fall off faster - How long did it take most of you exercising / dieting for the weight to melt away? Appreciate the feedback, off to the gym and the trainer from hell (thankfully he's cute:)) Lulu

    Motivate Me

lulu, are you logging your food and exercise? i find when i dont log, i dont lose. i literally log everything that goes in my mouth - even if it is one Herhsey's kiss, one cracker, etc... give me an few samples of what you eat, how hard and long do you work out? how many times a week do you REALLY break a sweat? i was 402 pounds when i started, so the weight did come off fairly quickly in the beginning, but now it's a struggle. i am seeing the inches, but not the pounds.. dont discount NSVs!! those are my saving grace when i dont see the numbers on the scale move. keep it up.
  7. So my new NSV that I would have never thought would change... Being at 474 I used THREE pillows to sleep comfortably... All underneath my head... Well at 84 lbs lost, I realized my neck was killing me, removed a pillow and I've now slept two nights in a row with only two pillows and I'm so happy and comfortable! It's the random little things! Happy Friday
  8. I don't use as many pillows as pre-op, for sure. Congrats and keep looking for those NSVs!!!

    Best NSV yet

My daughter is an actress. We live in Boston, so there arent many opportunities for movie roles, so she does alot of community theatre and student films. Yesterday she was called to be an extra in the movie "The Departed" which is starring Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Martin Sheen. They said I could bring my older daughter too cause they needed about 70 people for a church fair scene. They picked me to do two scenes, one was with my kids (and about 100 other people) and the other is walking along a pier. They matched me up with a guy to walk down the pier with. Now pre surgery I would have never done the big scene and I am sure if I hadnt lost 50+ lbs they wouldnt have asked me to be in the 2nd scene. They were looking for average people. I guess I look average now. I am still morbidly obese, but I was shocked that they picked me!!!! Plus I bought a pair of size 22 jeans to wear to the set and I had to bring them back cause they were too big!! I grabbed a size 20 and they are even a bit roomy, size 18 here I come for the 1st time in 20 years....WOO HOO!! Patty

    Minor victories

Your minor victories are pretty awesome! These are called NSV's, Non-Scale Victories (in case you didn't know).
  11. So....I stopped by the hospital this morning, to have my 3-month post-op labs drawn. When I started this process, my fasting glucose was slightly elevated (111)...in the "pre-diabetic" range. My HgbA1c was also slightly elevated (6.5)...also marking me as "pre-diabetic). Today's results?? Fasting glucose - 78!! HgbA1c - 5.6!! Both perfectly NORMAL (as were all the other tests performed)!!! I'm SO thrilled with this!! One of the major reasons I decided to have surgery was to avoid being diagnosed with diabetes...its truly a vicious disease, and I wanted nothing to do with it. NOW...just 11 weeks after having my surgery done...I am exactly where I wanted to be.....NORMAL!!! To be honest, this feels better than being able to say I've lost 100 pounds...because these numbers matter, in a real health sense, ya know?? WooHOO!!
  12. I love this. Seriously. I was feeling all full of angst and irritation at some of what I read on here and then I open this thread and it fills me with joy. This is what it is all about. Awesome NSV, Gman, awesome.
  13. I went to work for my nephew who has a Deck and Dock business here in Tampa, Florida. He needed help packing Water retainers in 2 backyards. The job consisted of a dump truck dropping a huge mound of dirt in the driveway, the dirt being shoveled into heavy wheel barrows and wheeled to the backyard and dumped into the form, and then tamped down with a heavy tamper....all day. I worked 6-7 hours a day, Monday- Wednesday with 2 guys in their 20's in 93 degree humid Florida air. My young fellow workers complained the whole time and took frequent breaks, even took off to McDonalds to "go to the bathroom". Old Gman just kept plodding along only stopping for water and a Peanut Butter sandwich. I told them stories of my long life and had great fun with them. It's been a year and a half since my surgery. I have lost 85 pounds since then, 115 all together. Before the surgery I could barely walk up the stairs. I have been working out for the last year, stepping up the intensity every chance I could. I didn't know if I could do this job, working out is quite different from working all day in blazing hot sunlight and stifling humidity. I stood the test. I am 64.
  14. Hi Gang, So, I had to hop on a plane yesterday to attend a conference in New Orleans. This is my first flight post-op. Guess what? NO EXTENDER NEEDED!!! This is where the heavens open up and angels sing, because not only in addition to being big, I am tall and due to my weight, I have not been able to sit in the exit rows for many years. Now I can again - yay! Flying will no longer be as uncomfortable. Also, the shorts I wore on the plane were 44" - last December when we flew I wore a 52". My jacket/vest is an XL and it zips up! Wow, that's a lot of exciting stuff!!!!
  15. My brothers and I don't get together very often but we were all there for our Mum's 70th birthday. My older brother has always been a very big man but all I have heard for a couple of years is how much weight he has lost. My younger brother has always been tall and whippet thin. well, this time (and forever more) I was the skinnier sibling! Yay for my band.
  16. my best "normal" new NSV????..... feeling and looking terrific every day. ........... waking up every morning happy looking forward to what the new day will bring me

    NSV anyone?

Went to the car wash before Christmas and I usually wipe off my windows and mirrors when I get out....but this time I had no napkins in my car!!! Not even one!!! I realized it's cuz I have not gone through a DRIVE-THRU since before the surgery!!! (NSV) I've decided to keep a roll of paper towel in the trunk! :-) No more drive-thrus for me!!! Nancy*

    NSV anyone?

I had one this weekend, for years I have always wanted to be able to shop at stores like Gap, OLD NAVY,etc. This weekend I was able to buy a skirt at the GAP that I can fit into now. I opened the door of the dressing room to show my husband and I stood there crying a like a baby. I got the funniest looks by people walking by. I wanted to tell everyone in that store why I was crying. These little NSV's are great. My husband bless his heart he just hugs me and tells me to keep going and there will be more of the NSV's. I love him so much without him I don't think I could have gone this far.

    NSV anyone?

Ok ppl...I have another NSV! Just this morning I slipped on a pair of my hubbys Levis! Wowie, what a thrill! It felt so D**n good to walk around the house in those pants for a few. I wanted to see what his reaction would be to me wearing his jeans and I did want him to notice me so I sashayed myself into the living room where he was. He noticed me right away...made me feel good cause he could'nt keep his hands off me then. Being toppless might of had something to do with his reaction... LOL..LOL.. Oh geoood life is so fun now...being banded is the best!
