    Big mistake

"NSV" is a "non scale victory", like a complement, or seeing yourself in the mirror or (and I can't wait) crossing your legs...

    Big mistake

That's a great NSV, TwinsMama! I was smiling reading your post. I love how self-aware, confident, and realistic you are--I am sure those are assets during this journey.

    Nsv

I started at size 24/26. Surgery was 9/3/2013. Today I tried on 2 different outfits in a size 20...and they FIT!!! OMG I am beyond excited!!! It's been sooooo long since I have worn that size!!! I honestly didnt even think they would fit!! I was extremely shocked and oh soooo ecstatic!! :D
  7. Hi juzme, what you are feeling is completely normal. I'd be surprised to find a handful of folks who didn't feel even a little nervous going into surgery. It's a scary thing! Especially since all of us have chosen to do this ourselves - not because the Dr's told us we had to or else. Which in my opinion it should be the case. The sleeve has quite literally saved my life! Knowing this, It's just my opinion that I HAD to have this done. Do your best to keep your mind occupied on other things. Maybe bury yourself in a good book to get your mind going off in a completely different direction. Then when you get out of surgery and are lying around wondering what you will do with all your time, you can finish up the story.. LOL Also, maybe you can go clothing shopping online or in the store. Buy yourself a goal outfit!! Then one day when you fit into it and you realize it was sooner than you expected, you will have a really nice NSV to come here and tell us about. I know it's fun because I did this!! I had to go back out and buy the same pants two sizes smaller for a new set of goal pants. Wishing you well on your upcoming surgery!!!
  8. Well my topic is self-explanatory. I keep hearing about "sliming" and I would like to know what you guys mean by that and what exactly it feels like. I know what being "stuck" means but I never heard of sliming until I came to this forum. I'm a noob. Also, I've been trying to find an FAQ section for the terminology used but I haven't found it yet. I've come across some other terms too that i'm just not familiar with yet- like NSV. So if someone could like me to another post where these terms have been addressed or something that would be wonderful! Thanks in advance!
  9. Mandy, what an awesome story and inspiring NSV! I laughed about the mirror. I would have been thinking the same thing!
  10. But they were a litle loose 16s will be coming up soon. Excited since day of surgery I was in 24s and couldn't shop in old navy.

200lbs from goal / body issues

I can very much relate to your struggle. I started with around 240 pounds to lose. Although I finally lost slightly more than 100 pounds I still regularly feel like I am so gross. I hate myself for letting my body get to that point. I struggle with the fact that I am already seeing significant loose skin. I feel like my body is just "deflating". The weight is coming from all the good parts first...butt, boobs, etc., but sticking to my belly & face. I feel like even when I'm at a healthy weight that I'm going to look just as gross, if not worse, with a tone of hanging skin. I don't say all this to discourage you, but to let you know that there are other people sharing in your struggle. This weight loss journey can be very emotional. The sleeve allows us to start taking off weight that we couldn't in the past. Some of us (I definitely mean me) used to use food as a coping mechanism. Now that we can't use food, our personal or emotional issues that we had pushed to the back burner start to boil over. I know that there is therapy, support groups & my surgeon's office has a psychiatrist on staff to help deal with patients post-op just as much as pre-op. They recognize that this is psychologically demanding & draining. I also have not taken advantage of these opportunities. I think about going to get some help often, but am too nervous. So, there are a couple things people in our situation can do. One is Celebrate any victory you can. 80+ pounds is awesome! The fact that you are continuing to do what you can to take care of yourself is wonderful. Realize that this is not a race. We will get to our goal in our own time. Some people fly right through other people (me again) slowly inch our way there. Let's try to keep on working towards what we know is ultimately better for us & stop beating ourselves up & nit picking at our perceived imperfections. Also, try to focus on some NSV. That can be key when we have so much to lose. Some for me have been fitting in a restaurant booth again, my car steering wheel doesn't dig into my stomach anymore, etc. Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts & feelings. I also have been struggling, but have been trying to put on my happy face. Your post has given me courage to share on the board here which I will do today. In the meantime hang in there sleeve sister!

    Sad Nsv

A couple of days ago I went through all of my clothes and put aside everything that was now too big for me. The pile filled one of those HUGE leaf bags. (the bag went to a friend of a friend's who is one or 2 sizes bigger than me but who is losing weight and would love to have the clothes - not a wls person). So, in that sense it felt really great knowing I was "paying it forward" and someone would get good use of my clothes. Admittedly, I have/had some very nice things so someone hit pay dirt for sure!!! I know, I know...it all sounds like a great NSV, right? And logically I know that it is a good NSV. BUT... Located within that pile was my all time favourite sweater (that I only even had for one year). It was a beautiful "nordic" like ski sweater ...pull over with a few of those nordic buttons at the neckline. BEAUTIFUL colours weaved throughout. I just loved this sweater; I had always wanted one but was never able to find one in my size (until I came across this one last year). When I tried it on, it hung on me so laughably there was no way I could ever wear it. I know some sweaters you can wear even when they are too loose..and it's not so bad etc...but this one looked horrible; really horrible. So, into the bag it went, as I promised myself I wouldn't keep anything that was obviously too big. Plus which by the time next winter comes around it will be even bigger on me (*knock on wood*). So, it is also a sad NSV for me. bye bye sweater. I know I can eventually get a new one (& I probably will next winter)...but nevertheless, I have mixed feelings about his NSV.

    Sad Nsv

I've worn clothes so big they went from tightly hugging the upper portion of my butt, to nearly hanging down to my knees! I still insisted on wearing them though, only in the house Three years ago I wore a size 12 or 14, now I'm a 24, but I still have some of my favorite size 14 clothes hanging in my closet. I'm VERY sentimental about my clothes. I have bags and boxes sitting in every empty space of my house, so many that I even had to stick one in my son's room, under his desk. None of them are ever going away I don't have a point, it's too early lol. Congratulations on your bittersweet NSV!

Brand spankin new - SIPS surgery March 10 2016

That's great! I'm 4.5 months postop now, and I'm halfway to my goal weight. I'm down 115lbs now, and about a month ago I got on a plane and did NOT need an extender. I won't lie - I cried. Very emotional and a proud NSV, for sure. You'll get there soon enough and it will be fabulous, just like you!

    First NSVs

gotta love the NSV !!! congrats....
  17. Thanks to everyone for their support and advice. I am constantly learning things about myself and my habits as I go through this process. One early learning was that I am compelled to finish what is on my plate. Somehow I just can't leave food that is available. So I bought small bowls that are just the right portion size and that helped there. The other learning is that I like the feeling of having a full mouth. So these little bites just don't yet provide the satisfaction I need with eating. But they will have to eventually. But I had a NSV today. A month before the surgery we went away to Italy to Celebrate my 50th birthday. I needed to buy some bigger clothes to feel comfortable on the trip. Today I tried them on and I cannot be seen in public with them or they will fall off my tuch. Yippee!

    Happy Valentine's Day

Man, my family brought chocolate covered strawberries and different assorted cheesecakes! It's hard but it's not impossible. I can open the tray, smell it- the sugar, fake chocolate and preservatives- and close it and eat a slice of turkey deli and feel fine. NSV!!!!!!! Oh yeah! Before the sleeve ALL of that food would have been "missing" around 11 am. I'm just saying. OH and it's my favorite cousin's birthday who I love like the sister I always wanted Happy Valentine's Day   :grouphug:
  19. What an awesome experience and thank you so much for sharing it with us. The closer I get to surgery the more I need reassuring and comforting stories to keep my mind balanced. I understand all the risks, I understand there are complications, I understand that it's not easy and I may be one that has complications, I am so aware of them and am going into this with wide eyes, but hearing positive and uplifting stories that some day things will be better, makes me so happy. I hope you have a great NSV every day!!!

    Bellydancing NSVs

Well, tonight I make my semi-professional debute again! We had our dance department dance review Wednesday night, and pix will be forthcoming. We were great, several people told us that we were the best group on stage, so that was awesome! I went out on stage, in front of an audience of maybe 300 or 400 people, and I OWNED the stage. I wasn't the slightest bit nervous, and I'm quite amazed at that, believe you me! I made eye contact with many of the audience, and I had the biggest smile on my face the whole time. Not only did I look like I was having a great time, I WAS having a great time! The next NSV is my costume... my top was a crop tant top that I've added bead work too to make it sparkle. But the important part of that sentence is CROP TOP! Yes, that's right, I was wearing a belly shirt on stage, exposing my ample belly to the public, with my surgery scars clearly visible! And I did it on purpose! Okay, this next one isn't an NSV, not really, and it properly goes on the "Skniny Bitches" thread, but here it is We had just come off stage after doing our two numbers and we were all still amped up on adrenalline. We were talking about how we had done, bla bla bla. A group of ballet dancers were there, I mean, right there and one of the skinny blond said to another skinny blond the snottiest comment I've heard in a long time. Okay, all the ballet dancers were skinny blonds, but that's besides the point. She said, in a loud voice "well, at least we weren't shaking our Bon-Bons." In the snottiest possible voice mind you. So, I simply said, with sugar in my voice, "well that's because you can't shake your Bon-Bon." And then I smiled so sweetly at her. (then she said that I was probably right, and the group of them walked away) So, I suppose that makes me a fat bitch, but I just decided that I wasn't in the mood to take crap from anyone. So, the next part of the Bellydancing NSV is that I'll be dancing againg tonight at a local restaurant, and yes, I'll be dancing for tips, so Big Paul, you'd better leave now so you get here in time, and yes, you'll probably need to take out a second mortgage So, finally, I'm doing this when I weigh 240 pound and not waiting until I get closer to goal. I'm doing this at size 22/24 and not when I get to my goal of 12/14

    5 months

Yesterday marked 5 months post op for me! Down 93 lbs in those 5 months and 130 since I started my WLS process. My favorite NSV is buying shirts anywhere; concerts, festivals, souvenir shops. ETC. Shirts, more my personality rather than the plain ones I bought because they fit. I don't measure myself too much. I did the night before surgery and have 1 other time I think 2 months ago. I carry most of my weight in my stomach so the only number that really changed was my waist measurement. I will again, but it is not a big deal to me because I can see a drastic change (most days) some days I do still the extra chunky me but most days I easily see the new and improved me. I am so grateful that this has been so smooth, really haven't had any issues at all. I hope everyone is doing well, KEEP CHUGGIN! ❤️

Congratulations! This sounds awesome. I grew up in the mountains, but it has been decades since I have been able to hike up hill. This is an NSV I am looking forward to!
