Congratulations! NSV's are just as exciting (sometimes more exciting) as watching the numbers go down on the scales. Great job! -
"Out of the mouth of babes"! Great NSV!

So Friday night I had two of my granddaughters overnight. One is 13 and the other is 9. Well I took them out to dinner, as grandma's house does not have much food! While sitting waiting for them to eat, I did not eat there, but my 9 year old granddaughter Jessica piped up and said "Grandma your butt's getting smaller!" After I got through laughing I thought well that's cool because kids speak such truth. My guy friend had told me I was losing my fine white a@@! But when my granddaughter commented I knew it must be!

How about some NSVs!?!?

I have a funny NSV...I was shaving my legs and when I ran my hand over my thigh I felt something hard and thought I had some kind of mass. Upon further inspection I realized it was just muscle! I wasn't use to having hard, muscular thighs...I was use to soft flabby ones! Surgery: 6/26/13 HW 370 SW 331 CW 276 -
YES, THAT's a great NSV!

It is amazing to me that at nearly 3 weeks out the changes I see already. Obviously the initial loss, the clothing getting loose, more energy etc... But something that I have noticed is the decrease in my resting heart rate, before surgery high 70s to low 80s was my norm, when I would be up doing stuff I would find myself in the low 120s, which always created an out of breath, sweaty mess. I am a regular pulse checker.... And there's an app for that. So I do keep track. I now sit in the low to mid 60s and when I am up doing stuff... The 90s. Amazing what a 10% decrease in body weight can do!

How about some NSVs!?!?

My driver's license weight initially had the first two numbers transposed. I was 238 at the time, and they put 328 and didn't want to print a new one. I had this feeling like someday it would turn out to be true and I really would be that heavy. I was right. And then some. Can't wait til I need a new license now, though. My NSV today was pulling my pants off without unbuttoning or unzipping them lol. Just a short time ago they were so uncomfortablely tight I stopped wearing them for a while in favor of dresses. -
My first ever before and In progress Pics
moonchild1968 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, here I am at 5 months out. The first picture was taken at a ladies mountain retreat in October 2012 (6 months before my band-to-sleeve revision.) Pic 2 was taken in early May 2013, about 2 weeks after surgery and pic 3 was taken yesterday. It's happening! I'm feeling good and enjoying my sleeve. I think it works like the band was supposed to work. I have restriction now and I haven't had any food get stuck since surgery, so I'm no longer looking for the nearest restroom in case I have to make a run for it. I tolerate every food that I've tried, except caffeine. I get caffeine jitters after only a few sips now and it just doesn't taste the same, so I don't bother. I'm proud of how far I've come. It feels so good to sit and bend comfortably. I am excited about losing the rest. There are so many more nsv's to uncover as a I continue on this road to recovery. I'm still working on the emotional eating, reducing my fat intake, and getting in enough Protein and exercise. It's still a lot of work, but it all feels do-able now. I am a work in progress. -
At 3 months out I have lost 62 lbs: Starting weight: 240 Current weight: 178 I still have quite a bit to go (as my height is 4' 11"). I'm so happy with this progress! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my sleeve. I've learned and lived through quite a bit in the last couple months.... THE GOOD: - Doing 175 squats will not kill you - I can see my clavicles! (This was a very happy NSV for me) - Eating at restaurants and parties is more manageable than I thought (just remember: protein first) - While shopping one day, I looked down and realized I couldn't see my belly, just boobs - I reached my surgeons first goal on 7/22/13, which gave me even more motivation to keep on track - NSV: I can wrap a bath towel around me! - I entered ONEDERLAND on 7/31/13 - This, to me, is by far the most exciting... My resting heart rate went from 120's- 130's down to the 70's!!! THE BAD - "Hunger" during your time of the month: oh wow, I feel like a monster! Lol. Just a tip: don't weigh yourself during your period, it'll just lead to frustration that isn't needed!! - I've come to terms that negative people will be negative. No use in trying to please or understand these people. THE UGLY - CONSTIPATION... Def never had this as an issue before surgery. My norm before was a couple times a day. Now, a couple times a week. Um, ouch. But I recently starting taking Colace. Hopefully that'll help. - Hair loss: Ok, I knew hair loss is a side effect, and it usually happens around month 3 or 4, BUT I wasn't really prepared for what it'd actually look like... Like a horror movie! It's quite disturbing to look have hand- fulls of hair while washing it or to look down in the shower and have a hair ball the size of a chinchilla near your drain! I'm lucky I have such thick (and long) hair to begin with, which is why I think it looks so disturbing. WHAT I'M DOING: Well, what I'm supposed to be doing. Protein first, lots of water, low carbs, and exercising. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I find following this plan pretty simple. I don't feel deprived and I rarely feel hungry. It requires work, but the results are so worth the sacrifices. Just working towards and hoping for continued success!!!

How about some NSVs!?!?
Princess Sarah replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is one month from my surgery date and I'm considering this to be my first nsv and that is I actually weight the same as what is says on my drivers license. May sound silly but I haven't been this weight in years! -
I have been trying to get about 700 calories daily. (At six weeks out, my initial goal of 800 was too ambitious.) I use MFP to track and it’s interesting to see how I have this cycle of more hungry followed by less hungry. I think “normally thin” people perhaps eat like this. We keep hearing them say, somedays I eat a lot and then the next day, I eat a little less to accommodate for the treat from the day before. I’m not sure I understood that before, because when I tracked my calories, I was always trying to stay under some ridiculous minimum that left me hungry all the time so I ate every one of the calories I allowed myself. But now, letting my hunger dictate my caloric needs seems to be producing this nice up and down curve (A sinusoidal curve, us geeky statisticians would call it). But it’s sweet nonetheless. Another NSV! Listening to my body and feeding it appropriately. Are you guys seeing the same thing?

I started my sleeve journey on May 8th, that was the day my band to sleeve revision was done. Today I put on a pair of size 12 jeans from the Disney Store, from years ago. My husband and daughter bought them for me for Christmas, I was doing the yo-yo dieting back then, and they bought the largest size available to encourage me to keep up the diet exercise I was doing. Well today I put them on and they FIT. And if I do say do they looked amazing!!!

Upset - very low weight loss - please help!
jfc193 replied to grmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a reason why they call it a journey. My wife and I were banded on 9/12/07. At first I lost much quicker than she did she had frequent times when she would lose and gain the same 3 pounds. I lost most of my weight the first 8 months then I slowed way down. Six years later she weighs about 25 pounds less then I do. I have lost over 100 pounds and so has she I am still losing slowly she is staying about the same weight. I focus a lot on NSV and the fact that I do not take any medication for diabetes. Just stay the course and do not compare yourself to others. -
Yay!!! the NSV's are the best!

NSV = I can wrap a normal sized bath towel around me without any of my giblets hanging out. w00t.

I cannot believe reality. five months ago i was near my highest ever 285, today i broke through to 199!! I have not been under 200 since my 13th birthday. I am 57 years old, that is a hell of a long time. I dont feel that light, i dont see myself that light and it all feels delusional. I have been consumed by food and weight and diets for nearly fifty years and now several miracles have happened, i am not hungry, i dont think about food, I actually lose weight when i dont eat. The very hard work is not even a problem. I just finished a five hour flight in the middle seat and i was more comfortable than i have ever been on an airplane. NSV's all over the place. thanks all for the support I find here.

Loved your story! I think everyone here can relate to the loss/ regain scenarios you described and the frustrations it all entails. I just wanted to tell you that I can tell from reading your post that I really think you will do well and I look forward to the day when you can come back on here and post a NSV (non-scale victory) about being able to glide under one of your race cars to fix something with little or no blocks needed because you were so thin! My little brother loves race cars also. Don't ask me what kind but if I were to guess I think they are Sprint cars. He goes to Indiana for some national event there every year. Best of luck to you!
