    The WORST Loser

Hi! New to this but hoping this forum will help. I am 3 mos post op VSG and I am the worst loser! My starting weight on surgery day was 286 lbs (my heighest weight was 312 lbs). At 8 weeks, I had lost 16 lbs. That doesn't seem like much? I did have a 10 period of constipation that put me in the ER for 7 hours one day. And I didn't eat anything at all for 3 days during that time. But since then, I've actually gained 3 lbs at my 3 mos. checkup last week. My surgeon was genuinely disappointed and surprised. One of my problems is that NOTHING bothers my stomach - I can literally eat anything. And quantity seems to be a non-issue as well. And I've definitely fallen off the wagon tracking. SO - I need to get back on track NOW. I didn't do the surgery to allow this to happen to me. Any help is appreciated!!
  2. Hey everyone. I had bypass surgery on 7/28 and am almost 3 weeks post-op. Lost 30 pounds from surgery date to first appointment afterwards, only 10 days! Handled clear and full liquids pretty well, finding it challenging to get enough fluids, however, just not that thirsty. Anyone having trouble with cravings? I'm not hungry, so it's clearly in my head. Any tips on keeping it off my brain? I have no problem during the 60+ hours away at work, it's just at home. Thanks!!
  3. Hey hey. Just found out this morning that I got a surgery date. 10/9/17!! I'm super excited. I started my liquid diet yesterday because I received my insurance letter on Sat with an inpatient date of 9/28. When I spoke to the scheduler she said they had to put an arbitrary date for insurance but will call them and update it. I can't wait to be on the losers bench. I'm staying positive that these next two weeks on liquid only will fly by. Question...are we allowed to chew sugar-free gum during the liquid diet?? Any feedback will be appreciated. Thx

    PRE-OP DIET....

OK OK I CHEATED!!!! I feel so guilty, I have been on this diet now for 10 days and I have been doing everything I am suppose to be doing and then I got really nervous and started talking about all the stuff I am not going to eat anymore then it happened we went out for dinner and I ordered steak fajitas I didn't eat the beans, rice, sour cream, or guac. but I did eat some steak, green peppers, tomatoes, and of course tortillas!!! I only ate about 1/4 of the meal but I felt so guilty afterwards. I am starting to doubt myself.... Can I really do this?! Am I cursed to being FAT forever?! I am praying for strength!!! 4 days until surgery!!!!

    Self pay loans

Watch the fine print on all loans for your surgery!!!! I had the option of a refinance, home equity loan or capitalonehealthcare. My doc. gave me info on capitalone......you go online and select "cosmetic" to apply. They offer (through some doctors) a temporary 0% = 18 months are 0% if paid off...you have 48 months to pay BUT...if you are not paid off in the first 18 months...you owe 19.99% for ALL/EVERY BIT of the original loan amount!!!!!!! A home equity (if you have a home and equity) is a higher intest rate than a refinance--but usually is shorter term. I hope to pay off the 0% interst loan in the first 18 months...and if I think I can't.......before the 18 months, I'll then do home equityloan to pay the rest of it off!!! That means...I get ZERO INTEREST for probably 17 months, and then pay off anything left from that first loan, with home equity at less than 10% for however much longer I need (don't cut the 18 month deadline too close or it may cost you a bundle). I would rather pay another 18 -19 months at 10%, than all a full 36 months at 19.99% if it takes three years to pay!! YOU may be able to pay it sooner or later than my example?????? If it will take a long time for you to pay, and you don't want the hassel-capitalone also offers a plain " low" interest plan.........they can let you know in minutes if you are accepted. These are only a few ideas...the possibilities are endless...depending on your circumstances.

  8. Hello Nancy, I was banded on 01/18/2012 Live san francisco so I am down 11 lbs, at 49 yeasrs total weight started at 184 lb old. I am back at work and my co-workers love food aswell as I do, Not a very suppoerted group are maybe, it's they just do not understand at this point putting just a little bit in my band is the favorite quote Most important thing I really need someone to understand my joruney. I'm still carrying a lot of my post- surgery weight so Im still in my healing process I can walk a mile now without abdomen pain my surgeon think I should be doing more to make me sweat, however I'm not really sure of any excercise thats done without invoving the core. I am looking for to when I can get back into the gym, My warm up will be my to the gym to zumba class 4 days a week.... Welcome. TRA
  9. Almost 10 months out and 102lbs down with about 50 to go. Started the gym about 5 weeks ago and haven't lost a single lb since. I religiously log every day and eat about 1000-1200 calories to day and burning about 800. So I'm netting about 200-400 calories per day. Should I be eating some of those calories back?

    New UK Pre Op

Thanks Molly. I had the band in 2010 and can't say it worked in any great way. We could never reach a fill point between nothing going down then being sick and anything being able to go down. I'll be glad to get it out to be honest. I was offered the sleeve at the time but I thought it was too extreme! Now I realise I need all the help I can get to keep it off, the losing bit is the easy bit. I started Lighter Life at 19 stone and got down to 10 stone 4. Once I'd finished the 'diet', despite every week trying something to keep it off; the 5/2 diet, counting calories, going back on Lighter Life, nothing worked and I've put 6 stone back on. I'm very hopeful that with the bypass, this issue may not dominate the next 40 years as it has the last 40 :-) Lainey x
  11. A guy friend just sent this to me..... Women, Pregnancy, and Estrogen PREGNANCY Q & A & more! Q: Should I have a baby after 35? A: No, 35 children is enough. Q: I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move? A: With any luck, right after he finishes college. Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex? A: Childbirth. Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's borderline irrational. A: So what's your question? Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labour, but pressure. Is she right? A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current. Q: When is the best time to get an epidural? A: Right after you find out you're pregnant. Q: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labor? A: Not unless the word "alimony" means anything to you. Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth? A: Yes, pregnancy. Q: Do I have to have a baby shower? A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly. Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again? A: When the kids are in college. A little motivation

    I can’t read it either - but here’s a list I cut and pasted: 1 lb = 4 sticks of butter 3 lbs = a half gallon of milk 5 lbs = a bag of sugar 7 lbs = an average newborn 10 lbs = a bag of rice 15 lbs = a larger bag of dog food 20 lbs = a car tire 25 lbs = an average tuba 30 lbs = an adult male southern koala 40 lbs = a bag of mulch 50 lbs = a bicycle 60 lbs = a kayak 70 lbs = a mini-fridge 80 lbs = a full 10 gallon aquarium 90 lbs = a jackhammer 100 lbs = a large male deer I’d like to loose 2 large male deers - but would be just fine with 4 bicycles.

    So dissapointed!

Curvy, Was the CPAP an insurance requirement? Or was this ordered by your doc because of a condition? I have sleep apnea that has been untreated for years I'm talking 10 plus years. Surgeon required new sleep study which confirmed I have obstructive sleep apnea. I was required to sleep on it for 3 weeks prior to my surgery or no surgery.Plus having the sleep apnea helps with the WLS approval as well because with most insurance companies sleep apnea is a comorbidity. Well I know u know that already being a utilization review nursing professional lol. Had I known earlier I would have worried u sick everyday asking u " do u think they r going to approve me" lmbo. They came back with an approval in 3 days so that was awesome.

    Deciding

I saw a brochure for a lap-band seminar, and for the first time considered that losing my 90 pounds of "baby fat" might require more than yet another do-it-yourself diet. My doctor happily gave me more information, and I also researched AIGB on-line. A few days later, my 300 lb diabetic husband and I visited a support group, and both made the decision to go for the band. We already knew from talking with his co-workers that his insurance would pay 100% for qualified patients to have the operation. I went for my diagnostic visit, where I was told that I had to come back for four months of counseling, testing, and evaluation before surgery next spring. They also told me that I'll have to pay 10% up front, plus my co-pays for each visit, and $100 for each fill. Doesn't sound like 100% coverage to me! My husband is going back to his regular internal medicine doc Tuesday, and I plan to tag along to ask questions.

4 days post op, drinking too fast?

I hope so, but it worries me a little. I certainly am not gulping, but I'm taking sips and not having to wait much time at all for the next sip. I just don't want to damage anything. I had around 8 oz. of chicken broth tonight at dinner and felt like I ate at a normal pace. It took me about 10 minutes to finish it.
  17. Hi everyone.. I was sleeved on Monday the 19th.. I'm home now and feel so sore everywhere. The pain meds are not helping. Is this normal? Any other advise.
  18. welcome RNY April 10
  19. I've got much farther to go, BMI about 55. I have lost 19lbs on the supervised diet so far. My insurance BCBS MN covers almost everything, but requires 6 mo supervised diet. It seems a bit longer than is really needed. But it has given me time to learn, adjust and realize that the Chinese Buffet is not ever a good choice, and something I CAN live without long-term. I have had to go through Pysch, Gastro, sleep, and PCP clearance, and finally Cardiac. It has not been too bad, but you really have to want it. I have seen more Drs in the past 5 months then in the previous 10 years.

    Need newbie goal/challenge ideas

Definitely sign up for a race! That's what really moved me from running a bit to lose weight into becoming a runner. My first was 4K, then I did a 7.5 six months later, then a 10, then a 14. I mainly stick with 10's now, that tends to be "my" distance, if I run more than that regularly I tend to get niggling injuries. 10's enough to keep anyone fit! But definitely having the goal gives you the motivation to get out and push every week. If you're anything like me I did NOT want to walk during the race! If you're more of a walker, that's fine, enter the race and set a time goal for that and gradually work towards time/distance. I think athletic goals are really really helpful, and there's NOTHING like the self esteem you get from winning a physical challenge - to me it beats actual weight loss hands down.

    Tomorrow Makes 1 week

Yes its normal to be able to feel it, more so in the mornings and just after youve eaten/drink, after a while you wont notice it, but in about 4 more weeks if it still feels weird talk to your doctor, they may need to adjest it, if you hve any worries always talk to your doctor, but you should be fine once you've completet healed. and 10 pounds is still a lot, remember its a process thats going to take months even years to reach your goal and maintaine it, good luck to you and be proud that youve taken the first step to the new you.
  22. Congrats ladies! My date is official just got word that my insurance company approved me! 10/10@12:00
  23. I am 10 months post op and took a vacation to celebrate my weight loss (92 pounds total) for the first time EVER I felt comfortable in a bathing suit and it felt amazing! Keep up all the hard work guys because the end result is so worth it physically and moreso mentally!!
  24. I kept losing during year 2, but it slowed *way* down (and I had a lot of stalls) after I was 10 months out or so. I was worried that my body was "done" in the 180s or 190s, but no, it kept going - just V-E-R-Y slowly....
  25. Hi luvksu, Well Dr. Hoehn is doing my Surgery on 11/19 think we both are excited. On that day I will see him first. P.S. My consult was 10/15
