  1. I apologize I isolated the word anger from your post, you do strike me as angry about it, my bad. It clearly bothers you and I am confused why. I didn’t even know needing a revision for GERD was even a thing until I read about it last week. This sh*t is hard, everyone knows how hard it is to lose weight and keep it off. If I needed a medical revision, I would be scared, frustrated and hope for support. I also would be very proud of my weight loss.
  2. I'm not even sure if I feel really angry about this or not or if I even have any particular feeling about it at all. However, I think sometimes I have some kind of a WTF-expression on my face when I read about someone getting a revision and emphasizing that it's not because of "weight". Like "You're getting a revision because of some serious sh*t and it's that important to make clear it's not because you've gained weight?!". In the end, what does it tell about a community when its members feel the need to make absolutely and 110% clear in advance that they're getting their revision not because of "weight"?
  3. Getting a revision based on medical necessity (severe GERD) is a very important distinction and is helpful for everyone to be aware of. Secondly, everyone knows that revision surgeries are generally less effective when weight regain is involved, therefore the outcomes will be different. There is no expectation of weight loss. You might want to contemplate why this angers you.
  4. This is something I read ever so often: "I'm getting a revision - but NOT because of weight REGAIN!!!!" Like, users on here are so very eager to point out and make sure everyone knows that they're not getting their revision because of "weight regain" or "insufficient weight loss". So, in a "supportive" community people needing a revision make sure to let everyone know in advance that it's because of reflux or other things but NOT because of weight issues. Wow. Don't get me wrong. If someone is getting a revision it's absolutely fine to tell people why if you want to. In fact I think it's indeed very important to talk about revisions because of complications like reflux etc. since having surgery is no piece of cake and **** happens all the time (e. g. look at what happened to Alex only recently). However, what rubs me the wrong way is this "but NOT because of weight issues", as if that would be something... dirty or naughty or something to look down upon. I'm not even sure how that makes me feel exactly. Angry? Sad? Pissed? Disgusted? Anyway, I can't help but being struck by the sky-high judgement level within the WLS community when it comes to struggling with weight/food issues after surgery and needing a revision because of weight regain or because of not-making-it-to-goal-weight (goal weight being of course BMI below 25). Very curious about the reactions coming my way now.

    Revision of RNY

I am headed in for my revision surgery today. I am not sure the DS was offered to me. Instead, he is going to reduce my pouch and my stoma size. Ia m so looking forward to being in your boat with progressive weight loss after. It is great to hear you have zero complications after. How long was your revision surgery?

    Revision of RNY

Have you considered revising to a modified duodenal switch? I had a RNY revised to this procedure on June 21st with no complications. I have lost a over 15 pounds since surgery and am doing everything to make good choices because it's a lifelong commitment. I have suffered the battle of the bulge also for years and was thankful to meet a revision specialist. Good luck and i hope you find your peace whether it's surgical option or non. 10. Hi, in the intro section I explained that, after 19 1/2 years, I am going to have a "tune.up" Revision details in my other post This is my third time with bariatric surgery, and I am ready this time. I am working, hard, on my three major obstacles to a healthy post bariatric life. 1. Small portions I had my friend, Annoying Jan, come and stay with me for two weeks. She is 70, looks like senior Barbie, is incredibly active and is always dishing out advice. I decided to listen to her for a change. She spent time with me looking at portion control, frequency of eating, dealing with the evening hunger that has always defeated me. I told her "F Off!" A few times.... but she was patient. The first week was hell. The second week I began to eat like Jan, Small breakfast, Small lunch, Small dinner and a very small evening snack. Very wonderful food. Organic eggs, fresh veggies and fruit, nuts, beans, low fat cheeses, soups, guacamole. We had "tapas" for dinner. Small portions of delicious things. Thought I would die at night, but I got into the swing of it. I tripled my water consumption and took a lot of walks and completed a lot of tasks on my todo list. Also went to bed early. Its been two months and I have stuck with the routine. I am still friends with Annoying Jan. She made me walk up hill two kilometers last week. I did it, much to my surprise. Having a friend that believes you can do something is so helpful. She came with me to the surgeon consultation and is so supportive. She has not had bypass surgery, she is just really aware of what she is consuming and she has been studying me for years, trying to coach me. She believes in the surgery after doing research. Its the best for me and she will support me. I love Annoying Jan. 2. Timing drinking and eating Target: No food after drinking anything for at least 20 minutes. I am going for 30. More difficult: No drinking while eating. Most difficult: No drinking for at least 30 minutes after eating. I am targeting 45 minutes. "OKay Google... set timer for..." is my most frequent phrase. 3. Getting the nutrients in What a difference 20 years has made! I have planned for and ordered the special bariatric vitamins and minerals. I am setting up reminders on my phone to alert me to take my pills. I have been reading labels and testing protein powders for the past two months and have ordered everything I need. I have ordered several books, recommended on this forum site where I can find recipes to make nutritious smoothies and soup. I was 10 years old on my first diet. I am 62 now. I am blessed with no serious health issues, a strong body and a couple of really good friends. And now, I have this wonderful community to come to for inspiration. I feel that all this pre surgical work, on setting up routine and dealing with night hunger is going to help me long term. I have gone through some serious health issues in the early years post my first by-pass, and turned my health around and that took about 10 years of work. I maintained most of my weight loss. now, I am ready to get the last 50 off. Some of you might have an annoying friend who may be your biggest supporter if you are willing to accept their help.

Round 3: Revision planned for July 31 2019

A similar stomach revision is called a StomaphyX. There are several that make the stoma between the stomach and small intestine smaller.

Round 3: Revision planned for July 31 2019

Yes, I know. My Dr. thinks that he may, after fooling around with my stomach, improve things in regards to the reflux. Here is a link that sort of shows what he is going to do with my stomach, https://www.wlshelp.com/stomaphyx.html The Dr does not know what he will do until he gets a good look. The objective is to keep food from moving too quickly from the stomach to the small intestine, make the stomach smaller and (hopefully) do something to help with the reflux. Next, he will revise the bypass. So, I am not your typical person. I donated my kidney to my brother over 35 years ago. I really take care of my kidney health and the medication used for controlling reflux can damage the kidney over time. I also have a thing called MGUS that also can result in kidney damage as it progresses. So, if I can get off the meds.... that will be one for me. I avoid animal protein as well. Glad there are so many great plant based protein products now. That will also help. My kidney is perfect, and my brothers is still working very, very well. I just want to keep mine that way. The family is now out of spare kidneys.
  14. I have to admit to being very confused as to what type of revision this is? I am also wondering what is being done that will help with the reflux.

Round 3: Revision planned for July 31 2019

Oh. I am not familiar with all the terminology. The surgeon wrote "revision" on the quote. I assumed it just meant, change. So, he will be making the opening between my stomach and small intestine smaller. He will examine the stomach and see if it can be smaller if necessary. Secondly, he will modify the existing RNY. The purpose will be to bypass a greater distance. So, it's a two part procedure.
  16. so you're revising from RNY to VSG? I haven't heard of that one - although some people revise from RNY to DS, which has a sleeve stomach. That's a super complicated surgery, though (RNY to DS), and not many surgeons perform it. RNY is actually a stronger surgery than VSG, so I'm a little surprised you're doing that - but best of luck to you!
  17. Had revision in February due to GERD and narrowing esophagus. Absolutely no acid reflux anymore. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. 1998: Went to Sweden for a Gastric Band (Disaster... but I did not know until....) Woke up with a 10 inch scar on my stomach. What? Why? Never got a real answer 1999: Band was to be maintained in Washington State. The Drs said there was something wrong. I felt a lot of discomfort and could not eat anything. 2000: Band removed (I think) and RNY performed. Medical notes mention the band was wrapped up and twisted in scar tissue. I only read that years later. 2000 to 2010: I did not follow any instructions, rarely took my vitamins, never monitored vitamins. I was an idiot. Ended up with Osteoporosis and needed iron transfusions. Actually had to go for a blood transfusion in 2009. Oh... and a fractured pelvis. 2010 - 2019: Worked on learning to eat better, take better care of myself. Went to see a therapist about my issues and made some small and big changes. Began an off and on relationship with the gym, kayaking, paddle boarding. Became healthier, reversed the osteoporosis and brought my iron up to good levels. I struggle with my weight. Up and down, 209 high, 175 low. Back and forth. Driving me insane. Too many clothes in my closet in three different sizes. A friend, an 82 year old woman, told me about Dr. Lopez in Guadalajara and how he completed a revision for her. She finally lost that final 50 pounds. She looks fantastic and feels great. I met two other people who had Gastric Sleeve surgeries with Dr. Lopez. I made an appointment and now I am scheduled for a revision. It will cost around $6,500 dollars. I am really working hard in scraping the money up together. Gave up going out and doing anything the last three months and will whip out the charge card (4% extra). I am excited and I have been working hard, reading books, watching videos, recording everything I eat. Testing out protein shakes and working on smaller portions. I will have had 6 weeks of this before I begin the 2 week pre surgical diet. I have been working out four days a week in the gym. I am strong and happy. I feel beautiful, having once weighed much, much more than I do. I have no pain, and no physical or medical problems such a High BP or Diabetes. I just want to settle on ONE SIZE and feel a little more comfortable on my bike. Oh.... and get off those stupid pills for Acid Reflux. I swear, I am going to do that and Dr. Lopez will help me. I am crossing my fingers. So, I am 62 years old and I weigh 199.999999 pounds (Ha, just made it under 200 this morning). I hope to be at my goal weight of 145 by this time next year. Heck, I will settle for more. Just want to fit in to my "skinny" wardrobe (175lbs) and give away the rest. My closet broke this year!
  19. Since my revision my diet is far healthier. I can eat chops and steak and chicken and they don’t get stuck. Salads and fruit are easy. I eat off a small side plate and that is enough to satisfy me. When I’ve had enough I feel it as full ness in my stomach not a disgusting pressure in the throat and chest. To me the way the bypass works and the sensations when eating are what we all believed it would be like with a band but we all know the truth about that. It gives me the ability to be able to eat small amounts of healthy foods and be satisfied.
  20. Happy Birthday Im surprised that your team required a preop diet for your revision especially as you are at or close to goal. I didn’t have to do one when I revised from band to bypass, I just got told to stick to clean eating

    Disappearing lapbanders

I can completely agree , I am so suck of it I am now considering revision surgery to bypass ! I had the band as less invasive surgery but it's not been without it's problems , when I had 5mls in this time I had major problems even with fluids , very frightening and wouldn't wish to repeat . The band for me has been very temperamental which causes stress itself which then affects it , vicious circle .

    Are you happy?

I revised from the Lapband to the DS two years ago. Since that time, I have lost 80 pounds. Besides there being a whole lot less of me, yes, I am happy and would do it again. I can eat pretty much what I want and have maintained my weight loss due to the malabsorption component of my surgery. You will find that many sleevers have regain issues. As far as the bathroom goes, no one's poop smells good. I have more gas in the evening and looser stool than I used to, but this is a small side effect and not a deal breaker to me. I went from a size 2x to a medium top. A size 18 pant to a size 8. No one eating next to me would know I had weight loss surgery because I can eat a normal portion. Protein first, veggies next. Drinking lots of water. My joints and feet don't hurt like they used to either. I wouldn't let a little more gas deter you from considering the DS. It's a good, solid, data-proven weight loss intervention. Out of all of the weight loss surgeries, the DS has the best proven track record for keeping the weight off, even over bypass surgery. Ask your surgeon. My short answer: Yes, I'm happy.
  23. hi all i had a gastric band fitted in nov 2012 and have had numerous problems , fills and defills and even a period of 18months with nothing in my band , i decided to start again in april this year and have fills but having got to 5mls have had to have two defills putting me now at 4mls . i never know from one day to the next how my eating will be , one day i can be pretty ok and the next i may struggle with a yoghurt . i have after some time enquired about revision surgery from my band to the gastric bypass and have plucked up the courage to book a consultation to discuss it properly , i am also seeing my gp this coming tuesday with a view of mentioning it to her amongst other things . i have struggled with my weight pretty much all my life and not a day goes by when it is not in the forefront of my mind , i also suffer with depression , weight being a large part of that since being subjected to bullying re my weight at senior school . So sad am i my favourites tv programmes are about weight loss , especially dr now ! can anyone tell me of their experience with revision in this way , what type of things do you manage to eat ? do you struggle with salads and fruit like me ? is it a case of you plate is a side plate size or smaller but no food groups are a major issue like with me , sorry if this all sounds silly things to ask but i struggle with the heathiest of things which is just miserable and mad , any tips , experiences and advice would be most grateful . thankyou x
  24. Good luck hope it goes well but there are many ppl now having to revise from sleeve to bypass

    Lap band failure

My surgeon advised that the best option was RNY. Less risk of reflux. Less risk of more damage/ issues to the oesophagus. I also know a lot of people that have revised to a sleeve or had a sleeve as an initial surgery who have not lost or have had massive regains. I decided to go with my surgeons recommendation and had my revision in Jan. I am very happy. My diet is much healthier than with the band, I don’t spend hours in restaurant toilets throwing up and I have reload the weight I gained and am sitting at goal.
