I just went shopping in my own closet. I've had friends who have lost weight before me and gave me tons of clothes in smaller sizes. I can finally fit into them! Went from a 26/28 down to a 20. I know that's still big, but I'm thrilled to have new clothes. I'm also thrilled to pass my larger sizes on to a friend who is starting her journey. There is so much power in knowing you'll never be that size again and never need those clothes. Our daughter is getting married in June and when we went to get her dress alterations yesterday, she saw a Mother of the Bride dress she wanted me to try on. I got the size 24, doubting it would fit because those bridal shops always have size smaller than what the actual size is. I was FLOATING in the 24! I went to a 20 thinking, "I'll never get this on." But you know what? It fit! In fact, even that was a little large! I was thinking that being in a 16 for the wedding at the beginning of June would be a pipe dream. I'm actually thinking I could make it! I was so excited I just had to share. I know other people have NSV's similar to this and everyone gets excited for them. It's just such a relief after all that time doubting that I really CAN do this. I really CAN lose weight. I really CAN be healthy. I really CAN fit into a 20!

I think the preop diet will hopefully help with postoperative cravings because we are getting through them now. NSV: On my fourth day or diet, I went to a Mexican resteraunt with my brother's fiance and sipped water while I watched her eat and drink a margarita!! Yay to everyone who can hold against cravings!!

Five days out after surgery
Miss Mac replied to sassyone854's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wowser...what a great start! I am proud of you. i am 63, and agree that it will enable you to enjoy your grandkids more. I have four small ones, 7, 4, 2, and 3 weeks. It used to be that when I went to my daughter's house, I could only sit and hold them on the sofa. After I lost my first fifty pounds, I was limber and flexible enough to get down on the floor and play with them, and then get up off the floor without assistance. You won't believe how many NSVs (non-surgical victories) you will have that you did not know were coming. Enjoy your grandkidlets and your new life. Congratulations! -
Congrats to you, way to go. I am looking forward to some nsv's of my own soon. You are doing great!

welcome to the philosophy of the NSV! Huzzah!

Post Op visit NSV, anyone have a NSV to share?
honk posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so I am not sure whether the nurse made a mistake or not but my BP today was 110 over 70 (She was doing a manual reading). At my PCP they have a digital version and I am usually 117 over 75. Back in 9/08 I finally broke down and went to the doctor about severe knee pain. Admittedly I was in a lot of pain at the time but my BP was like 160 over something high. -
:dance:Fabulous NSV! Congrats!

What Co-Morbidities Have You Gotten Rid Of?
Catherine55 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I'd put up this post to see what co-morbidities people have been relieved of since their surgery. As for me, I had compartmental syndrome (issue where my fascia on my calves would squish my muscle if I ran (b/c muscle would want to expand, but there wasn't enough room) such that my nerves would get pinched and my circulation would get cut off. Now that I'm 50+ pounds down, I don't have any problem with this at all. In fact, tonight, I ran 3 miles on the treadmill without stopping or slowing to a walk, and all was just fine! What a major NSV!! I had been worried that if someone was ever chasing me that I wouldn't be able to run to safety! But now, that problem has completely disappeared! Thank you, Band!! Catherine -
5 fills very little weight loss and frustrated!!!
Lana24 replied to dragonfly34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I can totally feel you guys on this one. I had sugery 05/21/08 and to date I have not lost very much weight. 26 pounds to be exact, the first year I was hurt and frustrated but I kept in mind that I was exercising and eating right so something at somepoint has to change. I have had about 10 fills my last being last month, I finally have a decent amount of restriction. If not for the NSV I would have seriously dove into a cupcake and taken up residence, but since I didn't I can cleary see that my body has changed. My cloths fit better, I am a lot...I mean a lot more comfortable. I can exercise comfortably without feeling like I'm going to die. Everything in my life is better since I had the band placed. But I still look at the numbers and wonder if I'm really failing. -
When did people notice?
Rainbow_Warrior replied to YummyMummy303's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ditto ... People on BP claim they see a huge change in my photos two months apart. I fail to see anything in the pics. My NSVs, OTOH, give me a smile ... trouser waist down from 152cm to 138cm (or 60" to 54"). My body fat down from 47.8% to 42.6%. My lung capacity up from 18 seconds holding breath to 44 seconds. Was walking with a cane for support in June. Not using a cane now as my exercise extends past two hours per day. (Exercising 13 days per TWO WEEKS!) Averaging 22500 steps/strokes on the Vivofit 3 wristband daily in December ... up from 3500 in September! -
NSV: I was going to buy some new beach towels the other day
spoiltmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
but then I remembered, a regular towel will actually wrap around me now and cover me up:) It's been years since that's happened. I decided to skip the beach towels. -
great discovery!!!! as time moves on you will find other NSVs to help mark your progress. Cheers on your journey

This evening I did something I haven't been able to do for 3 years--I was able to put on my wedding rings! Not on my pinkie where they had been but on the ring finger! I took them off about 6 months into my pregnancy and hadn't got them back on until now. Makes me feel great. Now my husband can't tease me about not being married.

Hate shorts. No nix that. I love my new size 14 shorts. My legs have lost weight too and the fat hanging around my knees is looking so much better. And the don't cause muffin top. I'm actually fitting all of me in a 14. Here I was getting used to my 16s.

Great NSV! And you're "I don't think so" answer probably really has her wondering what's going on. LOL

I don't feel I look the way people say I do...
54Shirley replied to KMO22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what you are talking about. I lost the weight and I do see it, but I don't. So, I can't band my Brain ya no ? So I am going with the numbers I see in the size of cloths, the NSV's that happen through my journey, (LIKE TODAY WAS THE FIRST TIME I CROSSED MY LEGS IN YEARS !) Giving my cloths to someone else that needs them as I lose weight, looking forward to onderland, and every now and then, a glance in a Full Length Mirror, and I find myself saying Dam Shirley, your starting to look better. That's the critic in me, never good enough for me, So I still keep working on this for life. Someday I might look in the Mirror, and see that skinny person, but I guess I will just keep working at it, and have to wait and see. So don't let it get you down, cause your not alone at all. Shirley. -
I just tried too. I now have a new NSV for my list!

Friday Morning Weigh-in, April 24th
tutornmom replied to BDS_Geologist's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 2 lbs (almost 3 but I don't record the decimal) down this week. I am doing the Happy Dance. That is the best week that I have had since September. I think recording my food on MyDailyPlate is really helpful. I am also working out more and harder. I did a frontal workout yesterday with a Jillian Michael's DVD and I am sore from the waist up today but I think that is great. I also had an NSV that is significant to me. My 16 year old daughter is slightly overweight and has Pervasive Developmental Delays. She has lost 10 lbs (down to 170 from 180) since I got my lapband. She is not really dieting but we are all trying to be wiser about our food and exercise choices and it is paying off for her. -
im not trying to be bitchy, but really ... 99% of the successes on this board exercise. it not only helps with health, it helps mood as well. you can do this!! Question, When does the scale MOVE? I have been so good since the day I got home from being banded, food & Exercisce wise.. Gave up my chips, martinis, cake & diet cokes ., and replaced with exercise 5/6 days a week. I was banded the same day as DH, so the house is completely swept of crap food / drink to avoid temtation of any kind. I bought us gym memberships last Feb when we decided to go with the band, and I didn't enter back until 4 wks out of surgery. I'm getting a little frustrated with the damn scale not moving. I'm not starving, don't over eat, eat healthy high Protein 3 meals a day, drink more Water than a camel should need and I'm ready to SCREAM. Not going to give up, just like the motivation in the scale variety. I go for my third fill next wk, maybe that will kick drive things? I recognize NSV in clothes / face etc.....just like to see the lbs start to fall off faster - How long did it take most of you exercising / dieting for the weight to melt away? Appreciate the feedback, off to the gym and the trainer from hell (thankfully he's cute:)) Lulu

lulu, are you logging your food and exercise? i find when i dont log, i dont lose. i literally log everything that goes in my mouth - even if it is one Herhsey's kiss, one cracker, etc... give me an few samples of what you eat, how hard and long do you work out? how many times a week do you REALLY break a sweat? i was 402 pounds when i started, so the weight did come off fairly quickly in the beginning, but now it's a struggle. i am seeing the inches, but not the pounds.. dont discount NSVs!! those are my saving grace when i dont see the numbers on the scale move. keep it up.

So my new NSV that I would have never thought would change... Being at 474 I used THREE pillows to sleep comfortably... All underneath my head... Well at 84 lbs lost, I realized my neck was killing me, removed a pillow and I've now slept two nights in a row with only two pillows and I'm so happy and comfortable! It's the random little things! Happy Friday
