When Did U Feel 100%
Glassfuser replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, sweetie, me too! I am constantly fighting heartburn and I dread eating. I'm almost a month out ( July 9 surgery). Soup is a lifesaver, but it still hurts. I take Rx omeprezole or Prilosec daily and that really helps me at night. Try some frozen Greek yogurt. Helps with the heat and you get more protein. It's new in the ice cream case at the supermarket. Just know that you're not alone in feeling poopy. I don't visit this site too often, but I came here because I'm feeling the same way. I'm afraid almost of eating and I hate that. I really believe we will feel much better soon! Other things to try...a slug of pepto bismal before you eat or drink, hot drinks in the am, and sorbets or icecream sprinkled with tasteless protein powder. Just watch out for killer yeast infections with eating sugary stuff what with your immune system low. Acidophilus milk should help with that a bit, as I had to remind myself yesterday. We're going to be okay. Right now just kinda stinks. I'm afraid this will last forever, but I'm down to 218 from 248 so it helps. And my brain knows it cant last forever. We can do this! -
When can I know that I'm not gunna have a leak?
JoiaRox replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That long on liquids?! Yikes! I was on "clear liquids" for the first three days post-op, then on "full liquids" until Day 14 - and even that included yogurt. Day 15 brought the transition to purees - so, essentially, I can eat anything that doesn't require chewing. I'll be in this stage until Day 29 (beginning of 5th week post-op). I've been advised that as I move through the stages, continue to go slow when introducing new foods and consistencies to see how your stomach handles them. Honestly, my doctor said any surgery complications were gone within the first 48 hours, so it's unlikely I'll "bust a gut" at this point (3 weeks post-op today). However, taking it slow and introducing foods slowly (and one at a time - in case any problem develops with digestion, I know what caused it) is the key to recovery. My doctor *did* say that weeks 2-3 were the most critical for recovery. I guess I'm past that now! My recovery has been textbook and my doc has been quite pleased at the two follow-up appointments I've had so far, so I must be doing something right! -
When could you start to eat solid food
shalotta1974 replied to ashleybrady87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello I'm 2 months sleeved and my food intake is still a struggle the protein shakes make me sick now. Eggs don't agree with me so so I try to at least three spoons of yogurt when does it get better. Chicken agrees sometimes mu nausea is terrible and most of the time I throw up mu food. Any suggestions or recipes... -
@@genise82 - It's taken me 4 mths to find a Protein powder I like. I finally tried Isopure Naked whey. Also known as unflavored protein. The only ingredient is whey protein isolate (26 gms per scoop). I mix it in my hot tea, in my soup, in 50/50 diluted apple juice and in my greek yogurt. I even mixed it in Water. It made it cloudy but didn't change the taste.

No energy, no motivation
ShelterDog64 replied to Luvmypouch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What's limiting your ability to eat a full diet? Is it nausea, or do you vomit? And the same regarding liquids...do you have physical symptoms or do you just not drink enough? I 'struggle' with my liquids every day, but the struggle is getting my head to remember that I need to drink, not that water bothers me. I find myself wanting to eat easy foods and repeating the same foods over and over...it takes effort to say 'no, not having yogurt for breakfast, cook an egg'. You really need a visit with your surgical team/dietician to get you moved on to a wider range of foods. Your labs may be WNL now, but your body is telling you that you're not fueling it appropriately. -
Need help with how to eat for long weekend get away
BLERDgirl replied to Hello new me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also have these GoStak Twist & Lock Storage jars I sometimes carry with me. It can be used as a stack or broken down into the individual pieces. I used this when I had to attend a breakfast meeting that only promised continental breakfast. I carried my Vitamins and some unflavored Protein powder. I mixed half the protein powder in my coffee and half in some yogurt. -
2 week post op and worried I am not doing it right!!!
Bozzj replied to Csplash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'd check with your doc because mine doesn't allow oatmeal or chicken salad yet. i have to be on mushies for 2 weeks before i can have it. i've been eating cottage cheese doubles, yogurt, campbell's select Soups, mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes and creamed spinach from boston market, pastina (not filling though so i only had it once), runny scrambled eggs, farina, Water based Protein shakes. -
I never had any issues with continued dizziness or anything. I could tell when I was not getting enough fluids in, and was dehydrated, I would get very lethargic, and grouchy!! I used Zero carb Isopure drinks 40g. protein in each bottle, I would try to drink half in the morning and half in the afternoon. I bought them at GNC, they are good for while you need clear liquids the first while following surgery, before you can do the shakes. I also ordered the unflavored unjury powder, 20 g. per scoop, and used it in broth, even mixed it up in my jello...you can use it in anything to boost your protein.(www.unjury.com) I also take a chewable vitamin, and the viactiv calcium chews. As for the new job...it sounds to me like perfect timing! It will keep your mind occupied, giving you less time to think of food!! Plus you mentioned worrying about not eating in the cafeteria...from the begining, you can be eating healthy around these new people, and then as you lose weight, they will attribute it to that...nothing else. They have not seen you go up and down in weight...they will see you eating your container of yogurt, or a salad, and as your weight drops...it won't raise questions. Or at least it wouldn't in my mind. Sounds ideal...Good Luck on the surgery, I am thrilled with mine, wish I had done it years ago!!! And good luck in the new job...sounds like you have a whole new life to look forward to!!! Kat

I Want My Band Removed Now!!!!!
austinglobe replied to yazmarrero85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had a lot of challenges with the band, but I think I can offer you some support. I think what you are experiencing is normal. RIght after my surgery, I could not eat more than 1 6oz yogurt and it took me all day to eat it. I got through it by drinking apple juice mixed with water. By the end of my first month, I could eat exactly the same way I did pre-banded. I had no restriction at all after the swelling went down. I hope you start feeling better soon. -

Also she said to eat more Snacks because i was only eating about 900 cals per day. She said this might be why im hungry. She also yelled at me because last month she told me to increase my cals to at least 1000. I did try. I added low fat granola to my yogurt and 1oz pretzels as a snack. Both she said are simple carbs and to NOT eat them. Ok ok i get it. Off the shopping list. She wants me to add another yogurt, cheese stick instead of the granola and pretzels. I am already getting anywhere from 90~115 g of Protein daily. Ughhh...... -
Hiccups and burping after I eat....normal?
loovie replied to loovie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi joatsaint! Your video was so helpful - thank you so much! I must be overdoing it. I have just started eating a little more regular food (not just liquid and yogurt!! finally!!) and I must be eating too fast and too much. It is so hard after having a habit of doing both for so long! I guess that will be something I need to learn quickly. I like the tupperware idea - I have been eyeballing about 1/4 cup of food at a time - but it is too much for my tummy and not the right foods. I hope I haven't ruined my small stomach already!! Thank you again for your seasoned wisdom - I really appreciate people like you out there to help!! -
Okay all..I had my third fill on Thursday. This is the first time I can actually tell a difference. Question is..how do I know if I'm right or filled too much. Before, I could eat pretty much anything. Now, I am having to drink protein shakes in the morning and I can feel them going down and bubbling as they go down. I tried to do some yogurt but it didn't want to go. As the day goes on, I am able to eat more. Meat is very tricky. Right now I'm trying some turkey for lunch and bite one is still sitting there. Let me know if I'm where I'm supposed to be.

I didn't puree anything. I couldn't think of anything grosser. I've stuck with foods close to puree: protein drinks, yogurt, fortified pudding, ect. Once I got to other foods, I just took very small bites and chewed really well. That included scrambled eggs. Personally, I'd rather chew to pureed consistency, rather than drinking a "food shake." My gag reflex would take over otherwise. That's just my opinion though, so that and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

I Was So Excited About Surgery But Now..
Katie713 replied to ladiJ's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think there is a balance to having some healthy carbs that will help level you out post-op. What you experienced is more than likely a type of withdrawal from years of consuming a lot of carbs. Do some research into low glycemic carb values so you can have some healthy carbs, perhaps in yogurt, fruit, nuts and Beans. This is sort of a gradual process withdrawing from carb addiction, and boy don't I know it since I was on that wagon a long time. Now, I watch my carb intake at less than 50 most days, but some days I do eat more. I enjoy cottage cheese with canned fruit. Strawberries and plums are naturally lower carb, or I have a Oikos yogurt with fruit to start my day off. lunch might be a small salad with grilled chicken or shrimp, fruit or nuts & cheese for a snack, a Protein shake, protein & veggies for dinner and an evening snack. I have lots of small meals to stay on an even keel - but the meals are very small and not heavy in carbs. Your body will adapt. -
I've tried several different bars, including Atkins, but think of Protein bars as more of a treat than a meal or healthy source of protein. I'm dubious about the hidden carbs and sugar alcohols except in moderation. Of course, you should follow your surgeon's orders, but I'd opt for real protein sources and eat the bars in moderation. I also love making 'powder pudding' with Protein Powder, sugar free pudding, and greek yogurt. Pudding isn't the greatest food on earth, but it's a wonderful treat. I understand they can be frozen also, but it never lasts that long.

A question for those that are 6 months out and more.
orionburn replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know these people exist, but for me I can't see having any issues hitting those kind of numbers at 6 months out. My doc wanted us on 3 meals a day and that was it - no snacks. There was no way I could do that. I had to aim for 3-4 meals plus a protein shake to hit my 60g for a day. I probably average 1600 calories a day being a year out. Truth be told I could easily be over 2000 if I wanted to. It's all about what you eat and how often. Yes, my portions have to be smaller, but if I wanted to graze all day long I could and easily rack up the calories. Even with healthy options like cottage cheese or Greek yogurt those are easy to get down. Really it isn't anything you should be overly concerned about IMO. -
Today, I am 3 weeks out from band to sleeve revision. My 3 week stall started at two weeks out, and I haven't moved since. I am a lightweight (didn't wait to gain all my band weight back when that went down the crapper) and only have another 20-30 lbs to goal. How long did your 3 week stall last? I wonder if I'm done losing already? If I am, so be it, my most pressing need was to make sure that I didn't keep gaining. Also, for reference, I'm eating mostly mushy foods, just starting to work in some actual meat. Yesterday I had turkey lunchmeat for the first time, today I had shredded chicken for the first time. Otherwise I'm doing yogurts, cottage cheese, string cheese, tuna salad, that type of thing. I generally get in my 60-64 oz of Water, and am usually in the 55 -60 g of Protein a day, without using any Protein shakes. Thoughts? How did other lightweights fare?

I noticed that my tastes changed with yogurt. I use to love love love me some yogurt. When I had to eat it on my full liquid stage, I HATED the taste of most of them! I was so upset! I haven't been able to eat much to see what else I don't like, less than a month out, I willl have to see what the future holds! Kelly -
Has anyone tried Meridia to help lose weight prior to lap banding?
GayleTX replied to RKidder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Those carbs you're getting in the carrots and yogurt are simply promoting more carb craving. Sorry! Try muching on hi Protein (dense protein....like meat, Beans, etc)....it'll stay with you longer. And protein supplements are wonderful for keeping you satisfied and for keeping your energy level up. Try to get about 100 grams a day along with lots of liquids while you're going thru this. You might as well get started now.....because you'll need to keep up that regime after banding if you are going to be successful at losing weight. Best wishes to you!! -
Welcome to restriction land, Shelly!!! I'll tell you what works for me... The first thing I'd have to say- DO NOT WAIT TO EAT if you are hungry. You'll end up eating too fast or the wrong thing, etc. The rules have changed, now...I can't do that "I'll eat after I..." thing anymore. I end up drinking most of my Water at night now- I have much less restriction, and I get the munchies at night, so I drink a few- probably three- bottles of water before I go to bed. I'm very ready to go to the bathroom in the morning, needless to say. But, I get it in... Breakfast is the hardest...I've found that I can't eat eggs anymore, even cottage cheese is tough- so I eat that Kashie Go Lean Crunch Cereal with milk....or a yogurt, or a Protein shake, or I'll have something non breakfasty that I know will go down- like tuna. I have a sip or two of my sister's soda once and awhile...and I"ve even had a fountain soda with my popcorn at the movies...but it's not pretty after. I get the burps so badly it's hilarious. Plus, giving up soda is a very freeying thing. It save you money, and it's not the greatest thing to be putting in your body. But you already know all that... As I'm writing this, I've been eating a soft taco from taco bell (fresco style, of course) and I realize I should not have taken that last bite. Another tip- that as you can see I don't always follow- is to ONLY eat. Don't watch tv, drive, write emails!, even talking to people makes it harder. Pretty soon you'll notice that you have a sense about what's going on in your stomach and you won't have to focus so intensely. Plus I find I actually taste my food and enjoy the many flavors so much more. Great questions, and I'm so glad they finally figured out what was happening with your band... Megan

Hi Beverly, Welcome to LBT! Of course the answer to your question is "follow your doctor's instructions"! In my experience, though, if you're already on protein shakes that means you're in the "full liquids" phase. That would include pretty much anything that goes through a straw--soups, smoothies, yogurt, puddings--things like that. To my mind that definitely allows for putting a banana in a blender with liquid. So what do your doctor's instructions say?

1) band holds 4cc + the tubing for your port will hold more - maybe as much as 3-4 ccs 2) YES - you still need to drink lots of Water. Water is required for your body to burn fat. Sometimes JUST drinking enough water in combination with your reduced intake will be what you need to start losing again. 3) Be sure to eat solid foods. Solid Proteins like chicken or beef will satisfy you sooner than yogurt or cottage cheese - which just slide on through. This is particularly important at night - when most bandsters have the least restriction. 4) Chewing, particularly solid proteins, is the most important thing you can do. Count the chews, if you can't figure it out on your own. 30x is considered enough. 5) If it's CRUNCHY it is not your friend. Things like cheetos or crackers - when chewed - turn to a lovely liquid/mushy form and slide right past the band. If you want crunch - eat a vegatable. Sadly, the band is not a cure-all. Some correct choices will be required. You don't have to be a saint - but you need to be making good choices the bulk of the time in order to lose weight. I urge, even BEG you - do NOT assume that "I am not losing" = "I need a fill." There are numerous hazards with having too much restriction. Sometimes "I am not losing" means you need to make different or better food choices, you need to get more exercise, or you need to drink more water. While the Band makes it easier, you still have to diet to lose weight. You may not have to SUFFER, but you still have to eat good, wholesome food in small quantity and burn more calories than you take in. Good Luck and Happy Band Trails to All.

Starting the process
Creekimp13 replied to Tysheena84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, eliminating all processed sugars and white flour...had an immediate impact on my weight loss. I lost like crazy just doing these two things. I still ate a ton of carbs, but I ate good whole carbs with dietary fiber...beans, potatos, chickpeas, nuts, whole grains, whole fruits and veggies....and stayed away from white bread, processed foods, stuff with added sugar and no fiber like juices and jellies. I also eliminated processed products with fats, fried stuff, and fatty meats. Learned to put low fat plain yogurt and salt and pepper on my baked potatoes....replaced butter and animal fat in cooking with extra virgin olive oil. Everyone has a different diet they prefer...I tend to follow Mediterannian or Mayo Clinic diet. Getting your steps is brilliant and will get your metabolism going like crazy. I started at 5000 steps a day and gradually increased in little baby steps to 12,000 a day. I get 20,000 some days now because I really enjoy walking and being active...but most days are 10 to 12,000 now. Being active will help you so much. Best wishes! You got this!
