This diet will help to make your liver smaller which makes it safer and easier for your surgeon to perform surgery. Start this diet 2 weeks before your surgery date. Every day during the pre-op diet, you will do these 2 things: Follow the instructions in each box. For boxes A, B, C, and D, choose 1 item to eat or drink during the day. For Box E, consume 1 meal. Drink at least 64 ounces of sugar-free beverages (water, Crystal Light, Fruit2O, etc.). With 1 item from each box, you will have 5 eating events per day. Box A Choose one protein shake: SlimFast Advanced Nutrition (RTD shake only, not powder) Pure Protein (35 gm can) Premier Protein Atkins EAS Advantedge Unjury (in water) Syntrax Nectar (in water) Syntrax Matrix (in water) Designer Whey (in water) Quest Protein (in water) + Box B Choose one protein shake: Syntrax Matrix (in milk*) Unjury (in milk*) Glucerna Hunger Smart Core Power Light EAS Myoplex Lite Boost Glucose Control Boost Calorie Smart Designer Whey (in milk*) Quest Protein (in milk*) + Box C Choose one snack: 1 cup non-starchy vegetables + 2 Tb salad dressing or guacamole ¼ cup unsalted nuts ¾ cup low-fat cottage cheese, ricotta cheese 6 oz Plain Greek yogurt 2 eggs (any style) 2 oz turkey + 1 string cheese 1 protein shake from Box A + Box D Choose one snack: Nature Valley Protein Bar Pure Protein Bar (190-200 calories) Detour Whey Protein Bar (170 calories) Fiber One Protein Bar 1 serving fruit + 1 TBSP nut butter 1 protein shake from Box B + Box E Eat one meal: Meal should contain: 4 servings of protein 3 servings of non-starchy vegetables 2 servings of fat *Can choose skim (fat-free) or 1% milk, lactaid milk, or plain soy milk. Eating every 3-4 hours and drinking plenty of fluids in between can help to prevent hunger. You choose the order of your items. Food Before and After Photos

@SueperGaland @MIZ60 Thank you for the comparison photos. Just what I hoped to see. I'm glad you mentioned that the Thai food was 1 cup (your order) because I was only able to see a difference. A description of what was in the omelet was helpful also. I'm only guessing about the yogurt. The shot is a close-up so I don't really know how much that is. (I usually make my own yogurt, so I'm not familiar with most of the commercial sizes.)

    Food tolerance

So far no intolerance to anything but I think i'm going to heed everyones advice and comments and stick to diet plan. Difficult to remember to drink my 2 protein shakes a day as well being as you're not really hungry. FYI pure protein - vanilla & chocolate are DA BOMB and started low fat vanilla greek yogurt today it was absolutely delicious and super cheap from walmart - I got the walmart (great value) brand it was fantastic

    Food Before and After Photos

Container dannon light and fit Greek yogurt with 1 tsp slivered almonds, 1 tsp unsweetened coconut and 1/2 tsp cocoa nibs. Sometimes I get full 2/3 of the way through. This morning I ate the whole thing.
  8. Not sure what stage you are on but i was eating soft foods: - Greek yogurt - cottage cheese - eggs with cheese, mild salsa, hummus, avocado, finely diced ham - rotisserie chicken with low sodium gravy - baked salmon - soups with added protein powder - tuna, egg, or chicken salad with Greek yogurt and mayo - beans, black and retried - banana mixed with PB2, and protein powder - baked sweet potato - roasted squash or zucchini - FairLife milk (13grams protein per cup) & SF chocolate syrup. My plan allowed a lot back in around a months time. So def follow your plan. Just remember that actual food adds up more calories than shakes. Snacks are OK too. I ate 5-6 small meals for the longest time. Still manage at least 1 snack now.
  9. Hello I am sorry your having issues with getting in your protein. Some ways to add protein to your diet is to add some unflavored protein to it. I have used UNJURY unfloavored powder. I added in anything I could to boost protein. Additionally look for protein water, peanut butter, ricotta cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs, nuts and beans like others have suggested. As for the vitamins if you can’t swallow them look into liquid ones. I couldn’t swallow them still can’t 8 years out. I use the chewable or liquid ones. They help a lot. Hope things get better.
  10. Avocados and nuts are packed with calories and are very healthy foods that go down very easy. Consider protein bars, greek yogurt, refried beans, baked potato with lowfat cheese on top. All good early foods. Good luck!

    Weightloss and Curves

As it happens...I just took a poo...and hit goal:) LOL! I've already talked to my nutritionist about stopping the loss (knew goal was coming in the next week or two and discussed it last week). Will up my calories to 1400-1600 and see if that doesn't do the trick:) Still planning on eating really healthy, but it will be nice to have an extra calorie budget for more whole grains, fruits, healthy snacks after work outs. Will not be slowing up on my activity. Have started running again, and I'm addicted. Feels so damned good to be able to run again!!! Bring on the oatmeal with dried cherries and pecans for breakfast! Throw a little more avocado in my BLT wrap:) A yasso frozen yogurt bar after dinner? Don't mind if I do:) Will still keep my refined carbs under 75 calories per day, and will eat tons of beans, nuts and delicious stuff. LOVE my forever diet:)
  12. As I understand it, everything you’ve listed are known “sliders,” meaning they go down easily with little to no restriction. Solid food will definitely be different. I can easily down Greek yogurt but 2 oz of thinly shredded chicken salad in lite mayo fills me up!

    Let's compare!

Let's see--I am three months out on Friday. I very rarely get my 64 oz in. I usually get to 50 oz (i don't count my shakes as fluid, as my NUT told me not to). My calories are between 600-900 a day. I stay below 60 carbs, and I do actually get all my protein in, at least 60 grams per day, but usually I am over 80 grams. I have issues with stomach upset and GERD so I still get most of my nutrition from protein shakes and protein powder in greek yogurt. I forget my vitamins often.
  14. Just wanted to let you know that Muscle milk isn't lactose free. As per their website. http://www.musclemilk.com/learn/ DO MUSCLE MILK® PRODUCTS CONTAIN MILK OR DAIRY? The term “dairy” on a food product, pertains to foods such as milk, cream, half and half, yogurt, ice cream, and custards. Since dairy is a regulated term, to qualify as a dairy product you need to contain fluid “milk” or certain “dairy” ingredients conforming to the federal standard of identity for “milk“ or “dairy”. Key Points: MUSCLE MILK® Ready to Drink Protein Shakes are derived from milk (calcium caseinate, sodium caseinate, milk protein isolate, milk protein concentrate and/or whey protein concentrate, depending on product.) Since these ingredients are more refined than milk, (reduced lactose, cholesterol and fat content), it is not the same thing as milk. So technically speaking, MUSCLE MILK® Protein Shakes are ‘non-dairy’ and are labeled on the bottle as such. An example of another ‘non-dairy’ product derived from milk ingredients is non-dairy creamers. MUSCLE MILK® Ready to Drink Protein Shakes do contain milk proteins and therefore should not be consumed by persons with milk allergies. MUSCLE MILK® Smoothie Yogurt Protein Shakes do contain milk in the form of Greek-style yogurt and added whey protein concentrate. MUSCLE MILK® Protein Powders, similar to Ready to Drink Shakes do contain proteins derived from milk, but in a powdered form. It's important to note that Whey is made from Milk, and not all Whey protein is the same. Whey Isolate has a greatly reduced lactose content and that's what makes it easier for those with lactose issues to tolerate, but no Whey is 100% lactose free, since it's derived from Milk.
  15. I'm one month (almost) post-op and having NO issues with drinking my water or my shakes. I'm easily getting in about 100 ounces of fluids per day and 80-90 grams of protein. Greek yogurt (4 ounces yesterday for dinner) and jello aren't an issue either. That being said, this "ease" concerns me. I haven't felt restriction really at all. I'm looking ahead at the eating plan, and I'm afraid the 1 ounce of meat won't cause any restriction for me. I start the puree stage next week.
  16. Go out for coffee! Or brunch and have oatmeal/yogurt/cottage cheese/scrambled eggs.

    The regain posts

Different people have different plans and even for people with the same plan different things work. I can’t eat a lot of carbs or I want more carbs. Plain and simple. My surgeon is OK with people adding carbs back in at goal IF they can maintain with them. I gain if I open the door too wide. You will have to figure what works for you. For me it’s no bread, pasta (except for chickpea or edamame pasta once a month or so) no potatoes (white or otherwise) no rice (white or otherwise). If I’m running 6+ miles I have have some fruit or oatmeal. I can sprinkle a tablespoon of cocoa nibs or unsweetened coconut on my yogurt or some berries. But yeah, low carb. I have beans or ancient grains maybe once or twice a week. A cookie or few bites of cake or a couple of French fries a couple times a month. I’m not that rigid but they aren’t a regular part of my diet. I didn’t “add them back in” they are a very once in a while treat.

    Fiber insoluble vs soluble

I buy chia in bulk and put in a shaker, sprinkle it on everything. Salad, soup, yogurt, baked into things both sweet and savory, spaghetti sauce, salsa, scrambled eggs . . . . . They have no flavor, just texture and you get used to it. New habits, like we all haven't been doing enough of that! 😀 If I try to give my 4yr old yogurt w/o chia he will get upset "Where are my black sprinkles!?"

    Time to be honest!!!

My pre-op diet is shakes for all three meals and I’m allowed two snacks per day of broth, fat free low sugar yogurt (1/2 cup), fat free cottage cheese (1/2 cup), sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, calorie free drinks like vitamin water. And no caffeine.
  20. They did stay down, but I can't eat much of them, I think I can manage 2 oz. now, eaten really slowly. I definitely recommend adding something to make them more moist, like yogurt or low-fat mayo.

    July surgery

Mine was 3 protein shakes a day with about 4 oz lean meat, 1 cup veggies, and 1/2 cup greek yogurt also included per day. I only had to do the pre-op diet one week prior to surgery but I started about a week and a half out.
  24. Well, it's back to real life tomorrow. I'm returning to work. I wonder if anyone will notice that I've lost weight? I'm going to have to get a new routine down to get my walking and meal prep in. I think I'm going to take egg whites with cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese tomorrow for my meals and see how that goes. I should be able to get a half hour walk in for my lunch break as long as I go early to beat the heat. No issues with any foods still. Starting next week, I can do exercise other than walking. I think I'll start out slow with a Jillian Michael's weight lifting DVD and maybe do some jogging intervals during my walks. I can also move to the next stage in my diet and start incorporating more foods! So I was trying to figure out whether I had anything nice enough to wear to an interview, just to be prepared since I've started applying for jobs. I can't believe how many shirts are too loose already! Not that I had many shirts that would work anyway, since we can wear casual clothing at my current job. I did end up ordering a new shirt to wear from Kohls, but I got a good deal on it. I also had to order a pair of close toed dress shoes but got a great deal on those too. I have a couple Lularoe skirts that will work with my new shirt and shoes, so hopefully that will tide me over until fall. I just don't want to have to scramble to find something that fits last minute if I get a call for an interview. My cousin actually is friends with a manager at one of the places I applied, so I'm pretty confident I'll get an interview there. I really hope so anyway!
