  1. I Have a BMI of 45. I cant believe this has happened again ( the weight gain). Behavioral & spiritual methods have worked, for a while. I'm on the presurgical diet from north Fl surgeons. Surgery is scheduled for 2weeks. I'm hopeful & nervous. I'm on the liquid protein drink/bar 4 a day plus a broiled chicken breast, or tuna without mayo. My first day today. I'm doing this for 2 weeks for the sake of a safe surgery. Thats what they tell me. Im trying to think positive, but I find myself crying a little bit. Positive Positive. I'll make it through. Can someone respond w/ inspiring words, or not. A response would be helpful to me. Thanks. :crying:

    I love being overweight

Congratulations. You are awesome!!! And I know what you mean--- I can't wait to be overweight. Isn't it amazing that a size 8 can be considered overweight! I started at 22/24/3x just like you. Got to 1x presurgery. I still have my postsurgery weight gain (just got home from hospital yesterday) and will be ecstatic when I get to size 8. Way to go!!!!
  3. I'm a RN, I think you have been misinformed. This medication will probably help in your weight loss efforts! Untreated hypothyroidism leads to weight gain in many people and once people start the medication weight loss is likely!

    Weight gain!

Hey everyone, well my lap band baby is 8 months and I gained about 35 lbs during pregnancy. I had a lil trouble after the baby with tightness but it got better after going on liquids for a couple of days. Now I feel like I've totally lost control and have gained an additional 15 lbs since giving birth. This is my third so fitting in workouts is hard and squeezing them in at night is sometimes discouraging since I'm so off track. I can eat large portions and when I eat small portions I am hungry an hour later, if I eat the wrong things like bread I still pb. I am still nursing so I don't know if I should get a fill. Any advice on getting back on track, I feel like a total failure!
  5. I was always larger than my best friend - not by much but that's the way it was. It didn't bother me, I never felt like I was competing against her. Sadly, she felt she was competing with me. Around the time I got banded, she was put on medication that prompted weight gain, so I was going down while she was going up. She told me I would die from the band. She printed out information off the internet (from questionable sources) outlining all the bad things that would happen. She went so far as to tell me to get it removed merely weeks after I got the surgery. I honestly thought my best friend would be there for me but she changed completely (or maybe she was always nasty deep down). I eventually told her to get lost and we haven't spoken since and that's fine with me. I'm not here to be anyone's 'fat' friend.
  6. Where did you get that Synthroid causes weight gain?!? ABSOLUTELY false! HYPOTHYROIDISM causes a drag in the metabolism. The disease causes weight gain. The drug props your thyroid up so it can attempt to function properly. If you don't take it, your thyroid may likely continue to deteriorate. I suppose it could slow down any weight loss you want from the sleeve. I wouldn't be surprised if a neglected sick thyroid would run a higher risk of developing cancer, though I haven't researched that because I never miss my Synthroid. If you are hell-bent on avoiding Synthroid, I'd suggest finding out if you should prepare for cancer in a few years. I don't mean to sound harsh.... Truly. Just learn all you can. Ignorance begets fear. Fear begets anger. Conquer it. Learn all you can. Managed with one tiny pill daily, Hypothyroidism is one of the mildest long-term chronic conditions one can face.

    Anyone eating Nuts

When nuts are available, I have trouble resisting them. Even worse, I keep going back for more until they're done. And THAT'S dangerous! During the first 18 months it didn't seem to matter, but in maintenance, it may cause some weight gain which then needs to be handled. Almonds are more filling, and easier for portion-control than peanuts. Bottom line: nuts are okay if you can keep them in moderation, but that can be difficult.

    I was denied!

I think they denied you because you hadn't done the 6 months of nutritional meeting alone, I don't think it had nothing to do with gaining 2 lbs. That would make no sense, maybe once you've completed the 6 months of meetings it will be a different outcome. I mean people gain weight all the time I hardly doubt the 2lb weight gain played a factor in their decision

    Two days into post op

I felt the same as you right after my surgery. The weight gain is from the iv's that you had. This gain is normal. I could not lay on my left side for several weeks (not sure if that irritated the port or what). However, with each passing day, I felt so much better. Eat your liquids, try to go for short walks to get some exercise, and stay positive. The weight will come off. Best of luck to you...you are just beginning your "new" life.

    depressed

Lelafox Like me, you're just starting on this journey. You know when you take your walks, you probably have to walk some hills before you get to the end. Those hills can be steep and hard but you have to keep walking to get to your goal. Remember, those hills eventually reach a peak and then you start going down. Just keep trucking up and working hard and when it seems you can't make it any further do it anyway and soon it will feel like a breeze. Be grateful for those hills because they make you stronger and more ready to tackle the next one. Vacations and minor weight gains are just a blip in the whole weight-loss journey. In a year, when you've reached your goal, you'll realize that. You'll be the one encouraging others on this site to keep on fighting and working through those difficult times. I've got a couple of trips coming up in the next couple of weeks and I'm not going to stress over it. If I gain a little, that's just the way it goes. Vacations are so difficult because you lose a certain amount of control, your routine changes, and your body probably is responding to the change in diet. You know, last week I was a little depressed because I didn't lose any weight for the first time, but this week I lost 6.5 lbs! I just had to remind myself what the rules were and follow them. Good luck to you. I've sent up a little prayer for you.

    Puff The Magic Dragon

Sunday I finally saw something I had been waiting years to see....199.2 on the scale. I was so excited to finally be below the 200 mark, which I am sure most of you can understand. Flash forward to this morning 201.8 - the wonderful water weight gain. When I woke up this morning I knew instantly I was retaining. My eyes and face were puffy, my hands felt tight. According to by BC pill pack next week is my TOM. Even though I haven't had a period since surgery (no, not pregnant) I still have the water weight gain and the wonderful moods. Right now I ache, my back hurts, my face hurts - how in the world did I manage to pack on that much water over night? By band is NOT happy about this- I barely got my special K down this morning. Frankly, I am getting reflux from my water this morning. So it's all liquids today until this water gets out of me. Anyone got any ideas how to flush the water out aside from fluid pills? I don't like being Puff the not so magic dragon.

Yes I agree try to get documentation from your doctor saying the reason for the weight gain... When I appealed and my appeal stated that I gained weight due to medication they denied it and in the letter it stated I didn't have any supporting documentation so a letter from the doc would be good
  13. I agree with everyone about going back to speak with your surgeons office and getting your fill adjusted as necessary. Sweets and slider foods are a risk for every one of us. It is easy to bypass the band. Some of us, like me, are also carb/sugar addicts. If I eat some, I need more and more because of the highs/lows in blood sugar. If you really want to get in control of your weight again, some good first steps would be: 1) Make an appointment with your doctor concerning band and fills. 2) Cut out the sweets - they are jeopardizing your health and causing weight gain. You can start with small goals as in, "I will only eat Proteins, vegetables and whole grain non-sugary carbs today," and worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes. 3) Recommit to banding - you can always go back on your post-banding diet to get yourself back in the "banded state of mind." There is also a really good option called the 5 day pouch test (you can google it and it was created by Kaye Bailey). This is a diet plan that tests the capacity of your pouch and helps with rapid weight loss and getting you back in the right frame of mind over a very short time frame. This is excellent for R&Y or banders who need to get back on track and I highly recommend it. There is no cost involved and the diet plan is clearly detailed on the website. 4) Start charting what you eat every day. If you have 1 bite of cheesecake, document it. You can use fitday, the daily plate or a whole host of other resources. Even a pencil and paper can help if that is more your style. This will help you to analyze what you are really ingesting daily. This can also be something to share at your doctors appointment in step #1. 5) Get some support through posting on this or other support forums regularly, meeting other bandsters in your area, maybe even getting your family involved if possible. You can get back on track and we are all rooting for you. It is hard, but very possible. You found success before, you can find it again. Best of luck to you.

    Questions And Issues About Lapband

First of all your tired from smoking pot. Secondly you can drink if you want but its just empty calories and no you dont get drunk quicker with the band because it goes right through to the bottom part of the stomach. Dont you think that smoking pot is the reason for your weight gain to begin with. If you want to smoke and drink whats the point. In answer to your question yes you can drink and smoke but really whats the point of having surgery.

How did everyone do at Thanksgiving?

I had a really enjoyable Thanksgiving, but thank goodness its over....at least the food part! I didn't do nearly as bad this year as years past but I still ate more than I should have and had a 2 lb weight gain....OVERNIGHT!! I'm sure that it will fall off in a couple of days though, I'm not terribly concerned about it. I didn't even attempt the turkey cuz turkey is usually a bit dry even for the un-banded so unfortuantely everything I did eat was of the soft, slider-type foods. What was weird about the the whole day was I checked out everyones plates to see how mine measured up (they are all "normal" size people, I'm the only overweight one in the entire family) and their servings were HUGE,,,,much like mine used to be. That made me feel good that my servings were so much smaller than the "normals". Hope everyone had a great day!!
  16. To make my long story as short as possible. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol in 2008 the onset was an extreme weight gain that I had no idea how to control. So I started going to mediplan weight loss clinic got me some diet pills too curb my appetite and a B12 shot. I began to lose weight but after awhile the weight began to come back even though I was working out regularly but the pills no longer suppressed my appetite. I kept trying different diets but nothing seemed to work. So in 2010 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the age of 25. So again I changed my eating habits continued to workout but the pounds kept adding up until I was almost 300lbs. My diabetes was completely out of control so for the next 5 years I stayed in and out of the hospital battling my diabetes and my weight would drop 20lbs and I'll gain 20lbs back. Until November of 2013 I was crying because I had been once again hospitalized for my diabetes and I was truly afraid I wouldn't live to see the New Year and it was right around the corner. I went to see my PCP for a follow up visit and was talking to the nurse and she suggested weight loss surgery to me she said it would help with getting all of my medical problems under control. I began to do research on WLS, I talked to my mom about the benefits and risk of WLS and my mom told me she'd rather see me trying to do something about my condition instead sitting around waiting to die because she was not prepared to bury another one of her kids. That conversation with my mom encouraged me to go through with WLS. SO I went to two different weight loss seminars that informed me about the Lapband, Gastric Sleeve and the Gastric Bypass. With both seminars I knew right away that the Lapband wasn't the option for me. So I was left to choose between the sleeve and the bypass. I heard so many good things about the sleeve and so many scary things about the bypass until I chose the Gastric Sleeve. Which was really the wrong choice for me. I was sleeved May 2014. So I'm now 14 months out from my original surgery date and has been very unsuccessful with the gastric sleeve. The morning of surgery I weighed 268 and I'm now 215lbs. I've followed my diet exactly as it is in my binder. I've been dealing with a lot of vomiting and my acid reflux is 10times worse than before I was sleeved. My diabetes is still a major problem. After 14 months of struggling with my sleeve my doctors have now just decided to scope me to see why I'm having issues with my stomach. I still exercise 3-5 times a week and I have yet to have a significant weight loss my sleeve hasn't helped as promised. Now I'm looking into a revision to the RNY bypass hoping it will fix my issues and assist with my weight loss. My gastric sleeve was an epic fail..... Am I the only person that hasn't been successful.

Congrats on making the decision! I too made the decision back in October, the time will pass very quickly. You touched on some of the emotional aspects of weight gain and weight loss, I have read many great trheads on this subject here. They really opened my eyes to the person I have become and to the road that I am about to travel. Good luck on your journey and dont be a stranger. :frown:

    Birth Control and Surgery

I have an IUD - Mirena. However, I am 37 and have had my kids and am married. Talk to your OBGYN about what your options are. There are a lot of choices. But most do have a side effect of weight gain.
  19. Anyone gain weight? I'm a little more then 3 weeks out. Off purée food and eating soft foods for a few days now.. I just weighed myself and I gained a little more then 2 lbs. shouldn't I be losing? Sent from my iPhone SD - 1/28/13

    GASTRIC SLEEVE and HERBAL LIFE

I feel like you are in a really good place right now because you've gotten past a really first important step - you know an issue that could be causing your weight gain! A glass a wine is not going to untie everything you've done, but if you're like me - some things are not acceptable in moderation and should just stay away from. You still are reaping the benefits of the decision you made, you still look really good! So, do what you can and manage the alcohol consumption. If you're still having issues, that can be dealt with too!

    Muscle or fat?

A few months ago, I changed up my workout routine. I now do 10 mins each recumbant bike and treadmill then various strength training exercises, working most every muscle group. I do this 7 days a week with very few exceptions. Recently I've noticed a 1-2 lb fluctuating weight gain and my pants seem really tight on my thighs. How do I know if I'm gaining lean muscle or fat?
  22. Congrats on a successful surgery. The weight gain post surgery is a bummer, fortunately I had read other posts of people ranting about it so I knew what to expect. What helped me with the burp relief post was looking straight up stretching my neck and taking deep breaths. Sometimes through my nose worked better but sometimes through my mouth was. It would let that know feeling in my chest escape and I felt much better after. Good luck on your recovery!!!

    Day 3 after Plication

So glad you're doing well! I'm sure the weight gain is just the fluids like you said. Do you mind my asking what your pre op diet was and for how long? I am doing this nine day liquid protein only thing and its killing me. I am having trouble understanding the point.
  24. For me, this has been the best thing ever! I have been struggling with weight gain for the last 8 years, and was finally diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago. This surgery is working so well for me. I have done every diet known, only to lose a few pounds and gain it back + some. Since surgery, my energy levels have increased tremendously, I haven't needed any diabetes meds, I just got taken off BP meds, and after another blood test in 3 months, I may be taken off cholesterol meds as well. My periods have already become "normal" (shorter and less heavy) and on time! I feel like a new person already!

    Keto vs. No Keto

Hello, everyone! It is great to be back, I haven't seen you all in almost two years. I had the sleeve in 11/2015 and to date, I've gained 40 pounds. I'm not happy with the weight gain, but I'm thankful it isn't a huge amount to lose. I had one bite of cake and you know the story, I was back in that crap routine of eating, crap. I'm focused now!! Alright, the point of this post. I'll get to it. ☺️ Keto or no Keto. Last October, I had to get my gall bladder out and since then, whenever I go overboard on fats, I know about it within hours. Therefore, 100% Keto isn't for me. HOWEVER, I read about Dirty Keto. Have any of you tried that and if so, what are your thought? Also, I downloaded Carb Manager, but I can't seem to get the numbers where I want them. This is what I'm aiming for: New carbs: 35 Fat: 23 Protein: 80 Calories: 80 Because this is set for Keto, it isn't letting me hit the numbers exactly. Do you think MyFitnessPal, would be a better fit? Thanks so much and again, it's great to be back! 🤗
