1. Hey all im in a weird head space after being in whats called a stalled state and gaining. Sleeved 7/13/16 weight 275.0 1st Week follow up 7/21/16 wt 255.0 6 Week check up 8/24 wt 245.0 I have stayed here in the 242.2 To 247.0 Range 8/24. I walk 2 miles a day and burn off between 150-200 calories. im without a doubt not over eating maybe even under eating..... Not getting the 64oz of fluids in and pretty sure the Protein is not 40-60gm either im off track mentally and I can't digest the multi Vitamin makes me hurl even on a full stomach the smell alone makes me gag. so I don't take it either. I've tried every Protein shake know to man don't like any of them but im pretty sure I should be drinking them less and less by now and learning how to eat normal food correctly again and finding my protein in food. feel like I need a support partner terribly to push me and help me I've short of given up and I know mu body has the potential to still loose another 50lbs. Please NO judgement I didn't join the group to be beat up on. Just need to know what others did or are doing because I can't be the only one that has been through this. What did others do or are doing to push through Find what to eat How much of it And Alternatives to Vitamins Can anyone offer me a template of what you are eating daily? Breakfast lunch dinner and Snacks? Im looking for ppl who have done this and success with it. I Need Help!!!! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

August 17th Banding Date

Well in two days I will be banded. I am looking forward to it, but am wondering about all the complications I have read about. My husband says you wont' know until you try. I will be self paying $11,000. I have been busy the last two weks entertaining dlegates from our Sister City in Japan. They just left yesterday, so I haven't had much time to think about it, which is good. Aslo our daughter had a baby on Saturday, August 12th. she was just 5# 12 ounces and a real cutie. I have been taking care of our 4 year old granddaughter so her parents can make the adjustment to two. We drove today 30 minutes to Blackfoot to pay for the surgery and to find out when I am supposed to show up at the hospital. I learned today that I am suppose to be there at 6:30 am. My husband works in Idaho Falls just a half hours drive further north. He will drop me off and then come back to se me later in the afternoon. I will spend the night at the hospital and then do the barium swallow the following morning to see if the band is placed correctly. Then I will be back home to recover and begin to learn about my new band and how it will react to foods. I have been on high protein and low cabohydrates these past two weeks. After surgery I will be on 2 weeks of clear liquids and then 2 weeks of other liquids and then 2 weeks of mushies.

I feel hopeless!

It sounds like you are doing great. Are you tracking your food? What are you eating? Are you getting in all of your Protein and fluids? Are you avoiding starches, added sugars , and fried foods? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements? Are you exercising? Have you talked to your NUT lately about your concerns? Without more information it is hard to offer suggestions.

How do I give up Food?

Hi there. I am 5 months post op...I had similar feelings and concerns. I think that's normal. For us, food has/had a hold on us. My life revolved around food - I mourned with food, I celebrated with food, I ate when I was happy and I ate when I was sad. I can tell you that now, at 5 months post-op, food no longer has a strangle hold on me. I eat for nourishment now. I still enjoy food, just much, much less of it. As far as the "no-no's" in your post...bread, Pasta and candy. I do eat some bread, but not a lot because I don't feel good when I eat a lot of it. (I was a breadaholic pre-surgery.) Pasta - I can eat it and do, but not like before...I'll order a pasta dish with chicken and eat mostly chicken with a few bits of the pasta. Candy - I can eat it, but don't because I really don't crave sweets any more. I had a piece of carrot cake at Easter - I ate 4 small bites and gave the rest away. I didn't feel deprived - I ate what I wanted. There will be sacrifice on the front end - pre-op diet and immediately after surgery. Once you're cleared for foods, you can start opening up your diet, staying within the guidelines your doc provides. My doc doesn't outlaw food - she preaches moderation and keeping within my Protein requirements daily. Best of luck to you! This is an amazing opportunity - I was scared in the beginning, too. It's normal.

Stuck Again

I tried a couple of things to get me out of the slump but the increased exercise was key for me. I heard people that increased their Protein and that got them out of the slump.

I wake up with pain every night?

I was banded on Aug 10th. Initially I slept on 3 pillows, pretty much sitting up while I slept - not the most restful. Then a fellow bandster suggested sleeping on my side with a pillow wedged on my side - voila! this has worked like a charm. You only need to test which side works best for you; I realized that the left side hurt like heck, so the right side it is. I also take a stroll outside w/a Protein Drink before bed this helps me get rid of some of the trapped gas. I'm actually starting to feel more like myself. By the way, the 4th and 5th day after surgery appeared to be my worst - pain, gas, fatigue... then the 6th day it was like someone flipped a switch and things were brighter. I'm still a little tired but I guess that's to be expected since I barely get 500 cals in a day. I plan to speak with the doc about the fatigue Thursday when I return for my follow up appt. Hang in there...

Hey Rox...there are liquid protein drinks out there. To me, they taste lots better than the powdered versions. Your doc may have a brand preference, too.
8. I have been on a Protein shake and raw vegetables diet for 2 months I added chicken and fish to my diet and was fine. It's a struggle but you will be fine you can do it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
9. Omg, that is awful. I have gotten stuck before, or so I thought, until this morning. I was driving back from texas this morning and wanted to get something quick that didnt have alot of calories, so I got a sausage burrito from mcdonalds. Figured I eat half of it. Took a small bite, went down fine. Took the next and tnat was it. Thought I would die, had to pull over and finally had to force myself to bring it up. Yuck. Never want to do that again. Should of know better than to have that anyway, and to do it while driving was not the smartest move. Ended up with just a protein drink for the rest of the drive.

Just curious...

Pre-op -1) have a serious introspective session with yourself about why you are having the surgery and how that will impact the rest of your days. Fully understand your relationship with food and eating. Be ready to make a serious attempt at changing how you go about life and how eating impacts your daily living. Don't have the surgery if you aren't willing and fully commited to make significant life altering changes. 2) Develop a good working team, including your surgeon, your nutritionist and your PCP. These are the people that can get you through the first six months without tons of anguish. If you don't have access, to a nutritionist, find one. It is worth every dime you invest. 3) It will be painful, it will be, at times, unpleasant -- deal. Understand that you might have to drink a nasty tasting Protein drink or eat mushy peas for a few weeks. You are adults, whining won't make it one bit better. 4) Get your butts in gear, if you sit on the couch watching Ellen and the View, and never elevate your heart rate except when you go to the fridge, then you are going to have a much tougher time post op. Be able to at least walk one half mile without getting severely winded. The more you do, the better you will do post op. 5) The pre-op diet is given to you for a reason. It isn't "guideline". Yes it is tough, but by following it, you end up doing much better on the back end. Post - op 1) It hurts.....probably not the worst pain that you will have, but it still is pretty uncomfortable at least for the first couple of days. 2) Recovery time depends on you. The better the physical shape you are in, the better your recovery will be. If it takes weeks and weeks to recover from this surgery, then you really need to work on some serious physical conditioning. 3) Follow the plan. It sucks to be on liquids, or purees or mushies, but you have to let the stomach area heal up. Once it does, then you won't even realize that you are missing 85% of your stomach...well mostly. 4) Everybody is different. You may lose 50lbs in the first month, you may lose 10. You aren't doing anything wrong, every BODY is different and the weight certainly didn't climb up on your ass last Tuesday, it isn't going to fall off a week after surgery. 5) Don't get dehydrated...your life will absolutely SUCK, if you do. Don't complain about Water tasting like dreck, drink it anyway. It tastes like water. Oh you only wanted a couple right....sorry.

How many bites per meal?

Nearly 5 months out and I can eat 1 to 1&1/2 cups of food (8 to 12 oz) at my evening meal. So I must select good Proteins and veggies. I avoid most carbs and no simple sugars. Don't know how many 'bites' but I do still eat with a baby spoon (cute eh?)

Lent and Fasting/No meat

I can eat fish but I think the shakes will be fine since only for a short time. also if you can have dairy-the ricotta bakes and refried Beans are a good Protein source as well as cheese. just so you can have SOME options.
13. I'm almost 6 weeks out and my sleeve is on the tight side so I get about 600 calories a day. My doctor wants me to get in at least 800 but more like 1000 to help keep my energy up. Moving to soft foods is definitely harder because the bulk if the protein fills you up much faster then the liquids. At 600 cals a day, I feel like poop. So my advice would be to keep tracking and swap out a shake or two for your soft foods and keep cals around 800-1000. Hopefully you will feel fantastic AND keep losing weight! Good luck to you!!

15. I've been on this liquid diet for 5 days :frown:. My urine is starting to smell like chicken broth :frown:!!!! But, I have lost 10 pounds, so I guess chicken broth is not a bad price to pay........LOL. My starting weight was 239, and today I weighted in at 229. I guess I don't miss the chocolates too much:sad_smile::wub::sad_smile: Can someone please let me know when I'm to start the Protein shakes, and if there is one in particular that you love?? Thanks, and next time I sign on, you'll see less of me:thumbup:
16. that's what i do! 4-5 ounces of skim milk, 4-6 ice cubes, 1 heaping scoop of peanut butter chocolate body fortress protein powder, 2 tablespoons of pb2, mix in blender. mmmmmmmmmm (i'm alergic to bananas, or else i'd probably try to sneek a 1/4 banana and only 2-3 oz skim)
17. Seven months out here. I am in the several small meals rather than 3 meals a day camp. Breakfast/first meal in the morning I usually do a Protein shake. Sometimes I will do a NF cappucino and then have a Protein Shake later in the day. Then I have 3-5 other small meals that typically consist of one of these things: Greek yogurt (Chiobani 100, Dannon light & fit or Fage) 1oz turkey Jerky Sharp cheddar made with 2% milk String cheese Thin sliced cold cuts Poached chicken breast 1/3-1/2 of a pure protein or Quest bar Raw veggies with Fage mixed with ranch dressing mix 1oz almonds or cashews 1/2 c Turkey chilli 2 turkey meatballs w/marinara I will usually pair one or two of these small meals with a carb like 1/4-1/2 cup berries, melon, plums, apricots Hummus with veggies Roasted root vegetables Sliced tomatoes with balsamic and olive oil and basil Small salad with full fat dressing Flat out low carb wrap (1/2) or a low carb tortilla (1/2) A couple of times a week I will splurge and add in something the family is eating or eat out. I don't deny myself a bit or this or that including.... A few French fries A cheese won ton (had this today!) Half a slice of thin crust pizza Insides of a street taco Popcorn at the movies Chick fil a grilled nuggets A few bites of almost anything my husband or kids order I have completely stayed away from bread, rice, sugar drinks including juice, Pasta...other than that I don't have any forbidden foods....including a very occasional dessert. I eat around 800 calories a day, typically 70g protein (60+) less than 60 carbs (usually less than 40).

Food 1St Week

They started me on protein shakes on day 2. I currently am 10 days post-op and just now able to get two 11 oz Premier protein shakes in. A lot of dr will tell you to focus on hydration for the first week and then move your focus to adding protein in week 2. Just take it easy and sip, sip, sip! You will be able to build up to it. Also, if you have questions give your NUT or surgeon a call for clairifaction. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!!

Food 1St Week

I had to have protein before I even left the hospital. It is crucial to the healing of your wound. I had to get in 60 g of it starting at day 1 post op.
20. Today is Thursday & I hady surgery Tuesday. I have been drinking water, crystal light, chicken broth, eating jello, popcyles & ice. I feel slightly hungry. Not satisfied. I am not taking in any protein. Wonders of that eas the problem. My doc said to do protein drinks the second week. Jus wondered if anyone did protein drinks the 1st week?
21. I'm currently in the middle of my two week diet before surgery. The center that is performing my surgery sets you up with an eating plan with Meal Replacements they prescribe... Plus a sensible high Protein with vegetables meal... Like an expensive version of Slim Fast! My LORD am I hungry. It wasn't as bad last week while I was at work, because I stay busy... but, this weekend has been torture. I'll make it, however. Eye on the prize. I've finished getting all my supplies for the surgery and at least the first three weeks after surgery. It's funny, because all these folks who have been so supportive this past month are starting to freak out on me and I think they want me to freak out also... I'm gonna smack the next person who tells me, "Well, if you can do this two week diet.. why don't you just keep doing it and lose weight?" I'm going to smack them on both sides of the head, I tell ya. But, I'm still looking forward to the surgery. It's like a big jumping off point! Had to rant.
22. I am at the point when Protein Shakes give me nausea. Now most Bolthouse Farms products only have soy Protein but this has both whey and soy and they say tha this is a great balance because the different rates of digestion and benefits. Anyways most importantly this tastes GOOD. Not the cheapest but affordable on any budget.

Newbie!!

good for you! take it easy with the exercise, you are still healing. I am glad you have had weight loss already, helps keep the excitement up! You definitely made the right choice, you do not want to die at such a young age! Keep protein in mind for all meals and success is yours!!
24. This is very brave to put yourself out there, yes you need to refocus. I can see myself doing the same thing as you, I am only 4 days out & I am very hungry for some real food. You are at the point that everyone refers to as "bandster hell" - right around 6 weeks. Your healing up nicely, and you haven't had your first fill, you have no restriction, so you are able to eat what you want & everyone that goes thru this asks themselves "what did I do this for?" Just be easy on yourself. Eat a all of the Protein (high Protein shakes & lean meat) you are supposed to, that often keeps hunger at bay. Good luck!
