    John's heading out and . . .

Thank you so much DeeDee and everyone else as well. . . Y'alls word mean a lot to me. I was able to eat a little bit tonight for dinner. I took Caysen out for fajitas at our local mexican joint. I ate a bunch of carmalized onions, and about 2oz of fajita chicken with sour cream. I just hate that my stomach is so irritated. It's one of those things I didn't really think about, but I would almost venture to guess this contributed to my eating issues and nausea through the recovery phase of my revision. I have the most emotional sleeve in the world.

    FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS

Great idea! I'm just so full as I write this because over the last 10 months, I'm down 108.7 lbs. I had a revision from the lap-band to SIPS and I couldn't be more happy. I did have some complications in the beginning which required a month long stay in the hospital, but even with that, I don't have any regrets! My life is on TEN!!! Even though I have not shared publicly my WLS experience with friends, people seem to be genuinely happy for the new me. I've always socialized, but I'm even more eager to hang out with my friends, go on couples dates, business social settings, etc. because I can easily find something to wear and feel even more confident in myself. I'm feeling great physically. No more back and knee pain. Off of all meds (blood pressure, cholesterol, symbicort breathing treatment) and off of CPAP machine for sleep apnea. Also, since having the lap-band removed as part of the revision, I no longer have acid reflux. While the vanity is great, the health benefits have me over the moon ecstatic! I'm sooooooooooo happy!
  3. Not sure from the title of your post whether or not you have GERD? If you do, the sleeve is likely not the best procedure for you. Check with your surgeon on this. The sleeve can make GERD worse resulting in a revision to bypass. It is the reason i had bypass, I had my heart set on the sleeve and then was told it was not the best solution for my health issues. I had my RNY over two years ago. I am 53. I had type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, severe gerd and worst of all stage 3 kidney disease. I also have psoriatic arthrits, Osteo arthritis and hypothyroid. Within 3 months my diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and severe gerd were completely GONE. My kidney disease was in remission and liver function went back to normal. Within 12 months my sleep apnea was gone. I was off all medications for those issues with the exception of my thyroid replacement and biologics for my Psoriatic arthritis. I of course now take calcium citrate, a multi Vitamin, Vitamin D, vitamin b1 and vitamin b12. It is alot less expensive for me, I lost all of my excess weight and other than my lousy back, I feel fantastic. Years younger......prior to losing my weight i felt like I was dying every day. Try not to worry, just educate yourself. Get on line, go to support groups, talk to those on forums like this. It will help you know everything you need to know to get healthy and stay healthy. Best of luck to you!
  4. I had an issue, which I've written about here, that the tubing of my port was sticking out of my stomach in an extreme fashion, so I had to have an additional procedure done to fix that. After the second procedure, which was 16 days ago, I started having very strong pain at the port site, which I didn't have after my initial lap band surgery. It's not a steady constant pain, but it hurts badly when I touch it or something bumps into it, lay in bed on my stomach or my right side, and when I make certain movements like bending etc. The pain is very strong and stinging, and it's unlike anything I've experienced after my first surgery. I can only sleep on my left side, otherwise the pain is unbearable. It hasn't gotten any better in the last two weeks, it's been the same level pain since the procedure. I saw my surgeon today, and he said that the pain isn't something out of the ordinary, and since he has had to reposition the port and had to resurture the port to the abdominal wall, and he claims he made it tighter this time so the tubing wouldn't come out of place again, he claims that as far as the port site is concerned, it's as if I've had lap band surgery all over again and the pain is normal. But I'm very skeptical of him, and I have had too many issues already since surgery. So my question is, if it's normal to experience sharp pains at the port site for a prolonged period of time after surgery? And is it normal to go a few weeks without any reduction in said pain?

July is When my new life begins

I'm scheduled July 18 for a Lapband to sleeve revision. Im terrified bc of the problems I had with the Lapband. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  6. I had the revision to the sleeve on November 18 it was called a Duo Denal Switch and only lost 25 # so far. You should talk to your surgeon about it because the same thing happened to me. I lost 50 pounds and gained 15 back. The new surgeon advised me my sleeve was not done properly. I am happy now except my dr told me to eat 6 times per day and I find this very hard to do because I don't know what to eat anymore and I find when I don't eat 5-6 times per day I don't lose weight but when I do this consistently I lose a pound per day.
  7. I lost 130 lbs since 2009 but after 2 revisions and years of struggle had it removed before yesterday. The band started eroting in my stomach, created a hole which was repaired. YAY! I'm now ready for a new beginning. It'll be so strange not throwing up all the time, no stomach pains or acid reflux. I developed anemia through my journey due to lock of iron. It was difficult to even swallow a pill at times...ANYWAY even after all that I'm still thankful for the lab band, it helped me loose so much weight...I now just have to work hard at maintaining. I'm very excited to start a new healthy chapter of my life. From size 24 to size 2-4 goodluck everybody
  8. I'm considering a revision with Dr. Aceves and am also considering going on my own. Do you think that would be OK?
  9. Same boat here but with a twist - I'm going solo to Mexico for my surgery. I was going to stay here and use the doctor who did my band years ago, but switched (and it actually wasn't all about the $). Anyway . . . . this doctor keeps his revision patients for an additional 4 nights locally with daily visits which is a bit of a relief as there's actually more care given! But, once I get home I'm totally solo. My house looks like I'm a hoarder with all the Protein drinks, Vitamin waters, etc. I've only got really one friend locally who will pop in if I need her. One of my friends out of state was with me for my band surgery and stayed with me for several days after (that was outpatient). I actually could have done that one solo as well, except for driving myself home of course. We almost could use our own forum --- Solo Surgeries or some other cutsie sounding group name.

    Tried soft foods... Totally bummed

It makes me sad when I read that people r having to give up whole food groups forever. Never dieting again is the reason I had wls in the first place. I must have a sleeve of steel cuz I can eat EVERYTHING. The first few months ice cream gave me tummy cramps and diarrhea but now I can eat it just fine (5 1/2 mths post band revision). I would be very sad if someone told me that after surgery I could never have beef, pork, or chicken again. Good luck!

Good luck! I have seen a lot of people have these types of revisions on here with a lot of success.

    Help! VSG or Bypass

Definitely a good choice having the bypass especially if you already have issues with acid reflux. I’m getting ready to have a revision from sleeve to gastric bypass because of the terrible reflux I have.

    Help! VSG or Bypass

These are my thoughts, coming from a patient going through a revision from Lap Band to Bypass... If you ultimately go with Sleeve, you may encounter complications like GERD years down the road. This is due to the Sleeve being a high pressure system. The high pressure created in the pouch puts pressure on the esophageal sphincter and causes it to fail, which results in GERD. It often takes years to manifest, and when it happens, it ultimately forces your hand to revise to Bypass. That's my current situation. When I got Lap Band, I was scared of Bypass. But as I've investigated more about Bypass, I understand now why it is the Gold Standard of weight loss surgeries. It's been around longer than other weight loss surgeries, so it has been perfected over the years. I wish I would've chosen Bypass from the beginning and saved myself a lot of unnecessary complications and I never made it to goal weight either. As for being self pay, and Bypass costing more... imagine a few years down the road having untreatable GERD and having to have a second surgery. So think of the increased expense of Bypass now as an investment if you choose to go that route. If you're having doubts about your PCOS causing cravings, Bypass might help to keep your eating on track, if you're a patient that gets dumping. I'd say you should trust your instincts. Best wishes on your journey!

Why do so many sleevers get GERD?

I didn’t have GERD/ acid reflux until after the sleeve. I ended up with 4 ulcers in my esophagus. I just had revision surgery to the gastric bypass on Monday.

Why do so many sleevers get GERD?

This was a concern of mine too. Especially on the Facebook bypass support groups I was on. They were saying that 25% of sleevers end up getting converted. Yikes! But you can’t believe everything you read on the internet and so I went looking for more reliable sources of information - namely medical studies. Sorry I didn’t save the links so you can read them for yourself but I have screenshots of the information I wanted: As you can see, the numbers are actually quite small! So don't feel you have to worry about getting a revision - statistics are in your favor!
  17. I had my band in for just under 2 years and had it removed and time if sleeve. Best thing ever, good luck to you! Revision 1/31/13 by Dr Cabrera and Venezuela in MX

July 14 (or close )Sleeve Date Friends

am am 3 weeks out. I have yogurt, blueberries, well chewed chicken (roasted), scrambled egg well chewed, protein shakes and protein puddings. I don't get in all my water but at least 48 ounces (not counting any shakes). I have started to avoid the shakes and eat more of the foods mentioned because I am getting my protein 60g+ that way and feeling fuller than on shakes. I also eat alot of sugar free popcicles and jello when I want to snack (head hunger) so that I am getting few calories and filling up. I feel like I can eat more than alot of you guys mention but I think maybe that is because I am smaller in general pre surgery 166 and surgery 155 (but I was a revision from a slipped lap band). I am really concentrating on protein protein protein and chew chew chew and sip sip sip. Doing pretty great I think as far as following that and staying low in calories and carbs. I just want this stall to end so I can feel some progress in the flesh. But I went through too much to give up. I also feel I need to walk more but that is difficult with my time and schedule. I get 7000 steps (whatever that means) generally each day.
  19. Help familia? Im lilly married and have 4 children & 36yrs young from houston. I'm stalled for a month. So grateful to Finally I found my community... After 3 months and one month of a plateau I've lost 20lbs. My revision was July 9, 2015 and I started at 230 before my lap and lost 60lbs then gained got coroded port then was sleeved. I'm 209.6 for a full month after sleeve. What are some suggestions family?? I went 5 days ago to have my hormones checked. Hypothyroidism so I take levithyroxine & Xanax. They both have something to do w neurotransmitters and hypothalamus. And I'm thinking with the sluggishness of thyroids if I get my hormones in check I'll have that energy and my metabolism motor will start to work correctly... Any thoughts facts experiences?

    Drains?

I didn't have one for my band but I did for my band to sleeve revision. They pulled it out the morning I went home. It was a pain and they had to pin it up to my gown so I could do my walking in the hallways or it was banging on my knees. That incision is still the sore one 2 weeks later.

  22. Hi There XX Begone, I don't have my after pictures yet. Do to the fact that he wasn't aggressive enough with the upper ab lippo I wouldn't recommend him. I need to go back in for a revision in 6 months already. He does great after care though.

    band to sleeve

Band to sleeve revisions in one surgery are quite common and very successful. Trust your surgeons final decision .. They know what's best for the patient. If by chance they decide not to do your sleeve it's for a very good reason... Your safety.

    Finding Your Bariatric Brain Again

Great article though a bit scary to confirm we we already know ~ that our stomachs will expand to hold a slightly larger capacity, "but" that WLS was always a "tool." A tool that we alone have complete control over. Treat it well & it will treat us well in return. I'm thankful every day for my tool. I'm almost 8 months post revision to sleeve, and this thought scares me. I hope it's enough to always keep me focused!!!
  25. I had my band removed last June and am now going through the process for my revision to a gastric sleeve. My insurance is making me jump through all the hoops again as if I never had the lap band. Very frustrating and now surgery is at least another 6 - 7 months away. They are requiring 6 months of nutritionist visits. Sigh. I suppose it will depend on your insurance company. I have BCBS.
