There must be pretty compelling medical reasons to revise. Stick with the recommendations of yout surgeon

    ❤My Revision Story❤

Wow! I haven’t been here much but I had no idea your revision was so soon. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. It is looking likely that I too will need to revise due to gerd:( I am so not happy about it because I know that revisions surgery carries greater risk for one thing. For another I just don’t want a bypass and that is why I went with the sleeve to start. I am more afraid to revise than I was to have my initial sleeve surgery. I wish you a speedy recovery and I will be paying closer attention to this thread.

Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!

So, niether one of us really knows why those people posted in that way. Which is what I am getting at. Yes, I DID notice the "as if that would be" in your post. Which is a perfect example of an asumption on your part, since these people did not tell you this was their own reasoning. You were assuming THAT is why those individuals posted it in the thread in the first place. You then go even further to surmise that not only is that the reason for including the reflux detail, but that the person(s) must be doing it because the WLS community is not supportive enough of weight regain revisions. There may well be someone feeling the things you have assumed here- it is a big community with all kinds of people, after all. 💙 I just don't think filling in the blanks on someone else's story, to the point that you are not sure if you should feel "sad, pissed" etc. is a very evidence-based way to know one way or another.... and it is somewhat unfair to the original posters, IMO.
  4. I secretly hoped that some of these users would answer in this thread, explaining why they chose to express it like this. You know, so far I've not seen something like "I'm getting a revision because of weight gain and NOT because of reflux". You know what the problem with assumptions is? However, you did notice that I used the expression "as if that would be" and not "because this is seen as"?

Round 3: Revision planned for July 31 2019

I met with my GP, here in Canada, yesterday. I told her what I had planned. I am having the surgery in Mexico. My original gastric band was self pay in Sweden. My gastric bypass was covered by Insurance when I lived and worked in Washington State. Now, I am back, retired in Canada. I would not qualify here, because I really am healthy at this time. Fortunately for me, my Dr. is from Colorado and had many patients in the US who had bariatric surgery. She is supportive, but is performing more tests today. This year, I have had endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, and bone scans. No problems found. My mineral levels are good now, after a lot of work so I feel good to go. She is wondering why I have a fatty liver and is just giving me a diabetes test to see if I am diabetic or insulin resistant. She gave me copies of all my tests for the surgeon in Mexico. My surgeon said he has done 200 revisions, including redo of the RNY. I am nervous, of course. I do not have kids, pets or plants so if I have problems..... no one dependent on me so that helps me handle the risk. Plus, I have a winter home near where the procedure is taking place, so I can hang around for a month in case there are any problems. Honestly, the struggle with weight has been life long, like so many of us. I work so hard, in the gym, walking, and I am so careful what I eat. I do not even have sugar in my house and have not for years. I do not eat any junk food, soda, frappes. Once or twice a year I binge on a pint of ice cream. I drink wine. I track calories. It takes years and years of dedication to lose 30 pounds and then: BAM One bad winter and all 30 are back. I just can not do this yo-yo anymore. So I will take the risk. My last four months have been about portion control and counseling to find ways to stop the evening eating (where all my extra calories come from). So.... that is also a big reason why I am taking the risk. I need help. Yes, I can lose it again with dedication, but will I keep it off? I need help......and now...…. I am mature and disciplined enough to do this correctly. Thanks for all the interest and I will keep you up to date. Pre Surgical diet begins in 4 days. I will post from the hospital and will appreciate the support.

    July 2019 - Surgery Schedule

Day one post op!! Revision RNY Surgery went great yesterday. I am in zero pain. I’ve only taken IV Tylenol. Team is a little freaked with my low BP and low HR but typically this is my baseline. Discharge today after upper GI and advancement of food.
  8. I would get a second opinion. You are better off delaying this so you can make the right decision. You don’t want to have to go through another revision later on
  9. Yes, I did read that about avoiding the sleeve with reflux and I did ask my surgeon about it. Once they removed the fluid from my Lap Band I have had zero reflux or heartburn since. He said the band was so tight it was pushing up whatever I consumed into my esophagus which caused the reflux. He said he thinks the sleeve is my best option for revision. I really hope it is the right decision! I honestly just want the band out at this point as I have been struggling with it for a long time now.
  10. Is it too early to be concerned about not having enough weight loss? My restriction has lessened and I'm losing at a snail's pace. I'm so concerned. I lost about 5 pounds in June. Should I have had gastric bypass? How early is it to consider a revision? Help!!
  11. Agreed! I have GERD and was told stay away from the sleeve. Look into this site lots of people get their sleeve revised to bypass due to acid reflux. I left my first surgeon’s office because of this. He only does sleeves and I quickly left lol
  12. You have bad reflux you need to avoid the sleeve, it can make it worse. It seems strange that your surgeon would revise you to a sleeve with your reflux history. Generally the recommended route would be to have a Roux en Y Gastric Bypass.
  13. Hi! I am a 28 year old female and I have had the Lap-band for going on 8 years now. My starting weight was 240, and I got down to 155. I am 5’2 and my goal weight is 125-130. For the past year or so I have had many problems that have landed me in the hospital...mostly my esophagus being torn up from the acid reflux. We figured out my band had slipped. So my surgeon is performing revision surgery to the sleeve. Has anyone else experienced this? I am currently at 165 and I’m just curious about if and how fast I would lose weight since I am smaller than the first go around and how the sleeve differs from the band after all these years! Thanks guys!

What about a revision? To say gastric bypass?
  15. Yes in October 2018. Restriction is holding out well so far (though not as restrictive as it was) and I rarely feel hungry. Like all bariatric procedures its a tool and it works well if we work it well. Compliance of post op diet guidelines particularly volume of food is important to ensure the sutures/anchor points/stomach melding/scarring heals properly to ensure the accordion effect is durable and as long term as possible. I am a member of a some esg facebook groups and some people haven't had success in different ways. Some feel they haven't lost as much weight or lose weight as fast as VSG or RNY - which is to be expected as the ESG doesn't reduce the volume of the stomach as much as the VSG and there certainly isn't any bypass. Others possibly through overeating and/or not following the post op diet guidelines in the first couple of months have lost restriction. Then there are the ones whose doctors possibly through inexperience didn't do a good job of the ESG - insufficient sutures, loose stitches etc. Finally, there are those that despite how well the ESG was done, how well they followed/continue to follow all the guidelines just don't feel the restriction and haven't had much success. Some people have already had revisions to VSG or RNY and some others are also using saxenda or other appetite reducing drugs prescribed by their doctor. Despite all the above there are plenty of success stories. I chose ESG because I liked the non surgical aspect of it, reduced complications and quicker recovery time. I knew that weight loss would be lower and slower than the surgical options but I was happy with the trade off. I continue to struggle with sugar/sweet cravings/head stuff. I am still working on replacing those mindless eating habits by replacing them with better/healthier habits. I would like to lose another 5 or so kilos by October, if I don't its not the end of the world, I am much healthier and fitter than I have been in a long time even if my BMI is not in the healthy weight range. Are you considering topping up your sleeve with an ESG to help with further restriction? I don't recall that any of the members of the ESG groups I belong to have had an ESG following a surgical weight loss procedure but a few have asked about it. Sorry for the waffling

Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!

I am considering revision surgery to gastric bypass , but its for numerous reasons , all of which i have been open about because i value the honesty of people as everyones journey is not going to be the same , just as thinking of revision surgery is not an easy decision or one that i think anyone takes lightly . I had my band fitted in nov 2012 after many years of struggling with my weight , i had tried pretty much everything on the market but continued to struggle so looked into wls , after speaking to my then dr who supported me and new how hard i had tried and the negative effect it was having on me . I had to self fund , a cost of £7000 , for which i took out a bank loan . I had the band fitted and numerous fills and defills and managed to loose in total 49lbs , but i struggled to eat protein/salad etc and my struggles were never consistant , what i managed to eat one day i wouldnt necessarily be able to eat the next . Approximately 2 yrears ago i decided i had had enough so had all my fluid taken out and try finishing my journey with the band just sitting there , it didnt work , i hit the menopause and lost a close family member and gradually put on weight so i was then only down 28lbs . After struggling again to loose i decided to find a clinic so i could have fills again and i guess start from scratch again drawing a line under what had past , my clinic is very supportive and during my first visit { in april} i told them of my weight struggles since being bullied at secondary school and how i felt like a failure , i broke down in tears and together we restarted my journey , but it hasnt been easy , i had a fill of 3mls , then 1ml and a further 1ml , but a few days after getting to the 5ml mark i couldnt even swallow liquid and the pain in the middle part of my chest was terrible , i had to wait a couple of days before my clinic could squeeze me in as my local hospitlal wouldnt touch me unless they deemed it life threatening ! Since then i have had 2 defills , each 1/2 ml so now have 4mls in , that intense pain is no more but my struggle to eat is just the same and sometimes get reflux , this morning i struggled with yoghurt , then later home made soup neither with any lumps , surely that isnt right ? , the situation gets me down and i feel meal times are a battle ground , i continually feel tired and low , yet i am trying so hard to eat healthy , since april my weight loss has only been 7lbs . MY point is my reasons why i am now considering revision to bypass is really two fold , struggling with weight loss and problems just eating and after 7 years i am fed up with it all , i new the band was only a tool but i did not expect the problems and struggles i am enduring . I see my current gp tomorrow and an adviser to chat about revision in september , if i go ahead it is a big deal as i never went in for the band ever having to consider revsion , and the cost this time will be £11,000 which is also a very big deal along with the risks any surgery bring , i hope this hasnt been too long and drawn out but i just wanted to add to the current chat , i value all posts and the support it gives which otherwise none of us would have .

    Green_Tealael When Is Surgery Again?

@GreenTealael hey bud - i must have missed topic of you having revision surgery could you send me the link so i can read it - (or @FluffyChix) take care hugggggs☺️ kathy
  19. I don't understand what you're trying to tell me here. Do you want to express that someone having revision because of GERD deserves support more than someone having revision because of regain? Because then we would actually really disagree.

    Today

Hoping all went well for you. My RNY REVISION SURGERY IS 8 AM TOMORROW. 🥺Very nervous about it and not really knowing why.I did great with the sleeve surgery. Anyway good luck with your journey. Allie in SC Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. I respectfully disagree. Severe GERD isn’t a joke, it’s painful, it carries an increased cancer risk and the reason for the revision is different. I’m glad people who choose to share their stories do so. I learn a lot just by reading, and like I stated earlier, I had no idea a revision for GERD was even a thing!

Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!

From the posts I've seen, it's just a matter of being clear. We make friends here and we just want to be forthcoming. I've seen plenty of posts about revisions for additional weight loss, or band failure, or sleeve failure, etc. and it's not like people beat them up over it. I think people just want to explain why they're having another major surgery. People who don't want to provide details, just don't.
  23. If a person posted, they had revision due to insufficient weight loss and not a surgey complication(GERD) would you have the same reaction?
  24. they probably say that because they feel like they've failed the surgery if the revision is due to weight gain. Whereas with a medical reason, like severe GERD - they don't feel that way.
  25. It doesn't really bother me. But I actually kind of wondered why you singled out the word "anger", lol. 😃 I guess what I wrote in answer to your post about the WTF-moments is what describes it best. "You're going to get surgery again, general anesthesia, risk of preoperative complications and all and this is what is important to you right now? To make sure that everyone on here knows you're not having surgery again because of weight regain. Ok." Maybe I simply don't understand the reason behind it. Absolutely. And I personally don't think the reason for getting revision is important when it comes to giving support.
