Wow. Today is day 11! I feel totally different than I did a week ago: 1) I have energy enough to wake up a 6am with the baby, get errands done around town and even play with the baby up 'till 6pm. 2) My tape is still on my wounds, except for one. The scar is covered with a this scab. I was told to put neosporn on it. I did. 3) I can't wait till day 15 when I get to expand my food options to cheese, tuna and eggs! 4) Right now my diet looks like this: a) oatmeal and coffee for Breakfast yogurt for lunch c) Soup for dinner d) also a Protein drink, popsicle and lots of Water. I DO HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FOR YALL!!!! 1) What are you eating in your week 2 diet? I am bored. 2) Any idea for recipes for week 3? 3) When should I start feeling like I am getting 'full'? When I start more solid foods? I'm confused because the liquid goes down so easily... I guess I'm a little scared that I won't have any restriction when I get to week 3. I DO

I was banded on June 20th...I am also from Minnesota..Banded at MeritCare Fargo, ND. My Dr. had me do the 2 weeks liquid diet prior to surgery and then also 2 weeks after surgery. I am now just finishing up a week of pureed diet...4 protein shakes during the day..4 oz. with 4 oz. of pureed unsweetened fruit, 4 oz. of low fat no sugar yogurt and then 1 tray of pureed food from the hospital and this is my current daily food intake. Next I move to soft foods.....funny how all Doctors have different plans. You will have to keep me updated on how you are doing. As far as feelling....I feel great and did right after surgery also. Good luck to you...

Before The First Lap Band Fill
legnarevocrednu replied to DustyRider's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there. I had surgery the day before you. I will not get my first fill until January 3rd (if I need it...I'm hoping I don't!) so I don't think the amount of time you have to wait is abnormal. I do not find myself hungry in between meals. My advice to you is to focus on protein at this point. Protein keeps me satisfied between meals so I don't snack. Also, watch your serving sizes. Stay within the serving size guidelines and track your calories, fat, carbs, and protein. Just for some ideas, I'll list what I typically eat and the schedule I eat it on. Breakfast (8:30): Yogurt or SF Carnation Instant Breakfast. You could also have a scrambled egg with some cheese on top. Lunch (12:30 or 1:30): A serving size of FF refried beans (which is about 1/2 a cup), mixed with FF cheese, Low skim ricota cheese, and FF sour cream. It is VERY filling and VERY yummy. Plus, lots of protein! Dinner (5:30 or 6:30): If I did not have my SF Carnation Instant for breakfast, I'd have it for dinner. If I did, I'll have another serving of my FF refried beans. Sometimes I'll have a SF popsycle. I am still in the mushy stage (progressing to soft foods tomorrow). Starting tomorrow I plan on incorporating Tuna and Chicken salad with Low Fat mayo. Well, hope this helps in some way! I suggest making sure you get AT LEAST 50 grams of protein in. It should help with the hunger. Good luck!! -
2 weeks after surgery & I can eat anything
MimIN replied to ratgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too am just about two weeks out and am starving. I have introduced cottage cheese, humus and yogurt and at no point do I feel satisfied or 'full'. My stomach is always growling and I too was wondering if a fill is possible before the 6 week mark. -
Good Morning, Dianne, sounds like your esophagus is irritated from the PB and raw from it. If your going to eat food, I would have very soft food for a day (yogurt or pudding), even a liquid diet might be good for a day to help it heal. Betty glad you enjoyed your bike ride. Some times ya gotta say WTF Cindy you'd die if you saw my closets and drawers... clutter bug for sure. Some day I'll clean them but not now, life is passing me by and the drawers are the last thing I want to do. But mostly I'm lazy :scared: :D Pat how was the banquet? You know, I've never had a manicure. My dd is 5 and she's had 2 already. I lead such a sheltered life RoFLMfAO !!!! :scared: Well nothing much is happening here today except aunt flow decided to visit me yesterday and ruining my weekend.... I get so grumpy and so dang tired I could sleep for 2 days strait... its not fare I tell yah lolol. Today I'm making tuna salad for the week and ribs (with out burning them this time lolol) and some acorn squash mmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm. Whatcha all up to?

Dr. Green in Payson, Utah did it. He was great. He explained everything. He thinks I have an 11cc band (can you believe that I don't know!) and he ended up putting in 2.2 cc. He said it will be tighter tomorrow due to swelling. I can feel that it is tighter, but I am worried that I can still eat too much. He said to have clear liquids, but that yogurt and cottage cheese were ok. So I had some. I probably could have had more. I am just so paranoid that something will happen and this band won't work. There really wasn't much pain. He numbed it first, then put in needle. I kept swollowing barium liquid and tablets and he kept adjusting until he felt it was tight enough. I got to watch. He was so nice and said I could call him day and night with questions. So my experience was really good. I was kind of worried.

Protein Shakes & Smoothies
bambam replied to MrsGonk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little over a year out from my surgery and find I'm usually tight in the morning so this is my "Breakfast smoothie": 3 oz of pineapple juice 3 oz of milk 1 vanilla low-fat yogurt (I use Activia) 1/2 frozen banana 2-3 frozen strawberries (8 blueberries or so if I have them on hand) 1 scoop whey isolate Protein powder - vanilla I just mix it in my blender and it's great. It is about 280 calories and 28 grams of protein. That is pretty much my fruit and dairy for the day. For lunch and dinner I concentrate on getting in the remainder of my protein and try to get a little veggie in. HTH! -
My Sleeve Journey (sleeved 12/28)
bleonhardt replied to MamaRhea's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Recovery is slow I have to say. But first week I was unable to even keep Water down so I think I am a bit behind. They put a stent in my stomach to untwist it and I have surgery Jan 10th to remove it! I have lost 41 lbs since the surgery. I can tolerate all liquids but have zero hunger now so food is tough to get down. I can tolerate yogurt, applesauce, pudding but not much beyond that yet! How are you doing? If you private message me I would love to share my contact details if you want a friend in the area that is going through the same thing! My name is Brandee but can not figure out how to add my picture! Lol Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -

Today I made SF Vanilla pudding and I had Greek yogurt today for the first time. I did pretty well with the Greek yogurt But I had added protein powder to my pudding And once again the protein made me nauseated. I am looking so forward to one day chewing my food again.

Never apologize for questions! I like FAGE Greek yogurt, plain or vanilla. I also like the Yoplait 100 Greek Yogurts. I just try to find on that's easy on the sugars I have tried the Muscle Milk drinks, and like them pretty much. But, I have a dairy and whey allergy, so I cannot have them every day. (I can tolerate Greek yogurts and some cheeses, but no milk.) So, I use GNC Pro Performance Egg Protein powder. My nut gave me high marks on this one when we discussed my need to find a non-whey based protein powder. As for coffee...every doctor has a different idea of when/if you can add it back in. So, I would find out what your plan states. I had to ask/beg my doc to let me start it back just shy of 3 months post-op. Even then, it's not every day, and it's only one cup per day. But, that's my choice, not his. Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

PLEASE GIVE ME IDEAS FOR MUSHIES!!!
AquarianCrab replied to bunnyluv37's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The Chobani yogurt is excellent if you add a packet of Splenda. I also ate some mashed potatoes that I added some unflavored protein powder and extra skim milk to make them thinner. I made a leek and potato soup that I pureed with a stick blender and that was satisfying. I poured some in a soup mug then added the chicken soup (Unjury) flavored protein powder to it. I also made plain oatmeal, and used protein powders to flavor it. I used banana nut bread and cinnamon roll flavored protein mix and it was very tasty. I tried eating some baby food (meats and veggies) and they were awful. I remember tasting it when my kids were babies and thought it was good, but this new stuff is just plain nasty. The dog loves it mixed in with his soft canned food though, so it won't go to waste. -
Meals-to-go ideas 12 days after surgery
lsuchick4 replied to Bluesea71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was on a Friday and I was at work (from home) on Monday, I returned to the office the following Monday. You can do it! As for food, I pack a little lunch box with me everywhere I go. I keep an assortment of things like: yogurt, laughing cow cheese wedges, hummus, deli ham, cheese sticks, guacamole. At 2 weeks, I packed refried Beans with cheese, scrambled egg, -
Vegetarian getting sleeved? What about protein?
BLERDgirl replied to Boogirl6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Boogirl6 - It will be a challenge. Your choices are either whey isolate or soy isolate for Protein powder. If you do no dairy at all you'll end up relying pretty much on Beans for food based Proteins. Do your research before committing to this. I like almond milk but it's a bit carb heavy and you only get I think 9 gms of protein per cup. Hemp milk reportedly has more protein but I haven't tasted it. I'm not doing a lot of non dairy milk these days since the carb/protein ration doesn't make it worth it for me. I don't like drinking cow's milk, but I'm okay with 0% greek yogurt since it's a bigger protein payoff for the carbs. -
Looking For A May 10 Band Buddy
nursemarti replied to nursemarti's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry Amy posted that before I checked the threads. Meds - yes. I had to stop taking my Tylenol extended release for my fibromyalgia because it can't be crushed. But my Blood pressure meds I just crush and Pepcid same way. The multivitamin and calcium are chewables. I am now mixing my BP meds in yogurt just started that today. Moved up to runny grits and puréed soup today but boy was it ever good and satisfying. Who knew I could eat 4 tbls of something and feel full lol. I initially weighed in last Monday morning fully clothed w/o shoes at my gyn's office at 270 now in nightgown down to 251 of course with nothing but liquids what would I expect! My goal weight is 140 annd I am 5'2.5" so now I have to get active. I am walking just a little need to get a good pair of walking shoes so I can be comfortable and get serious about it! -
9days PostOp: Not hungry...barely eating
glitter eyes replied to ladycook9713's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there it will get better. Also, just because you can't get your protein in early post op does not mean you are a failure. Post op I had a hard time getting my protein too. I could not tolerate the protein shakes and I tried many brands. I still to this day- nine months post op despise them. I just made sure I stayed very hydrated ( small sips) and I lived off Greek yogurt and strained soups until I got to the puréed stage. From there on out you can get your protein from food instead of shakes. I used all the protein powder I had to make protein pancakes( once I was able to eat solid food) and I also mix it with my Greek yogurt. I get my fair life milk at my local grocery store ( Publix) it taste just like regular milk but you get the bonus of double the protein. You will be a success. Lots of luck -

samuelsmom replied to ladycook9713's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might find unjury chicken broth works. Tastes good and has plenty of Protein. Good Luck. Will you be starting purees soon? That might make things easier. What about greek yogurt? That saved me in the early stages! -
Hello, I had my banding done on July 3rd. By July 7th, I developed an appetite and couldnt live on just liquids so I took a chance and ate a yogurt and clam chowder Soup. Everything went down great, I dont feel a restriction. On day 5, I ate a bowl of fruit loops with milk and survived. Later that day, I went to Target and accidentally swallowed my gum and was freaked out thinking I was going to puke while shopping but everything is fine. I don't seem to have problems eating, Im tempted to try a slice of pizza but am a bit scared. Should one be restricted immediately after the surgery or not until the first fill? Anyone else out there that has been able to eat without problems? Has anyone tried to eat and ended up with problems? I'd like to know what other people have experienced. Thanks D.

I am not sure why you exclude Protein shakes - I know a lot of people hate them but you just have to look until you find something you like. I like GNC, and while they are more expensive, they are usually in some mall and the best thing is, that they let you return the product. I have tried it several times, I buy Protein powder, and try it. If I don't like it, I return it. I never have more than one serving, no need to abuse their awesome policy. I have found that I really like the GNC Wheybolic Extreme chocolate and I think it is as close as possible to chocolate milk. It has no after taste IMHO and it packs a lot of great protein (isolates, no concentrate). It also mixes very well so it is good to use without an electric blender. Anyway, my nutritionist says a lot of sleeves continue to rely on protein supplements for ease of mind and I see this. I have a chocolate shake in the morning - 30g of protein and 140 calories, and it usually isn't too hard to get 30g in naturally. You can go all out and get the whole serving for 60g of protein and 280 calories and then never have to think about protein the whole day but often I don't want to sacrifice 280 calories on just a shake. It's not cheap, make sure you get a coupon or wait for the same (usually beginning of the month) Other than this obvious, here are some other things I like: Hummus with yogurt (greek/regular plain) - this makes for a nice hearty protein snack, add a little olive oil, curry powder or hot sauce on top for an extra kick but not necessary Fage 2% yogurt - make sure to use the 2%, because the calories are about the same (maybe 10 cals more when comparing by weight) but it tastes a LOT better than the 0% versions of Fage, Oikos, Dannon and the like. If you can spare the calories and carbs, add a little maple syrup or agave nectar I am still on full liquid, so I have to wait for tuna, chicken and eggs :-(

As others have said tuna has become a big part of my diet. It's quick and easy to prepare and packed with protein. Once I was onto soft foods and allowed to eat tuna was when I was finally able to meet my protein goal for the day. I mix it with Greek yogurt instead of mayo (there is no low/no fat mayo in Taiwan that I can find LOL).

Congratulations!!!!! You should stock up on plenty of liquids (non carbonated). Some that worked good for me were V8 juice, Crystal light, and the yogurt smoothies. Also stock up on mashed potatoes, yogurts, tomato soup or any soup that is not too chunky, and if you can handle it baby food. Get plenty of protein shakes!! This is some of the stuff that you will need. The V8 juice was awesome. I got so tired of eating things that were sweet and not filling!! Pop sicles are also good for the swelling. Good Luck and keep us posted! Angela
