female only I feel a visit to the doctor/ER coming on...
aprilbell77 posted a topic in The Gals' Room
I am 4 weeks post op and I'm having my first period since the surgery. This period is heavier than any I've ever had before. I'm bleeding through a heavy duty tampon and a XL maxi pad about every 2-3 hours. Also, I am having very watery diarrhea about every hour. I can't drink water or fluids because it's making me nauseated. I'm feeling very weak and very moody. I feel like I've been beat up by Mike Tyson, I'm so achy all over. Sorry for the TMI, but I have no one else to share this with. -
Sherri.............That is ALOT of weight!!! I know your miserable but it almost makes it worth is I would think??? That is GREAT!! Hope your feeling better soon.......... I am banded and I still throw up sometimes. Sometimes cause I eat to much and sometimes things just don't settle right.............if I eat to much sugar I get the runs (TMI I Know) just about everytime...........sorta like band dumping I guess. But the further out I get the more my stomach is settling and not getting so upset about things............well fills and unfills cause it to flare its temper but foods no so much anymore. It gets better............

This site has been my soul support system for me I have been banded year and one month. I have only told my husband and adult children 20 and 21 and my sister who had GBPS 9 years ago. I read so much and learn so much from this site it has helped more than any other thing besides myself who has learned to be small one must eat small. I can say I am small now and I still always want to eat more than I need too. I am a work in progress. This is a great place to ask questions and I do not think ice will hurt only if you break a tooth? I world recommend just sucking on them. I can not chew gum because that causes other things to happen a little TMI sorry. I have been able to lose 110 pounds all by myself and this site and my band. I am glad you shared and keep coming back. It is a wonderful place to vent and chat. Keep up the excellent blogging. Best wishes imaluckydog

amy, maybe this is tmi but i couldn't reach around the front because most of my weight is in my belly. so i lean forward and get to it that way from the back. hopefully when i lose the belly, i can do it the "normal" way. it works for me though and haven't had a uti in more years than i can remember.

I have had a rash on my stomach and under my breast on and off since surgery. At first, they thought it was because I was allergic to something from the hospital...had a bad reaction to the antibiotic and some of the pain killers. The rash on my stomach went away finally after weeks on benadryl. I had surgery in June, over 7 weeks ago, and still have a rash under my breast. It is kinda like a heat rash but not really. I have put benadryl on it, and hydrocortisone cream. I have tried everything, and the dr doesn't seem too concerned about it. I am going crazy! It itches and burns! Has anyone else had this happen? I feel like I'm driving the dr office crazy cause I've called several times. I don't want to seem too needy. I asked about it at my last appointment, and the dr said not to go to my regular doctor cause he would likely give me a steroid which would impede my healing. I'm freaked out though cause it isn't going away. It gets a little better, and then gets worse than before. It is about the size of a tennis ball or fist. (Not raised, just around). HELP!!

Here's a New thing...sinus issue and pukey?
possumtrot posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully this won't be TMI, but last night I had a great walk but some of the area I passed by was weedy. We've been dry, dry, dry here and it got my sinuses flaring a bit. I must have had sinus drainage going down my throat to my stomach because all of a sudden I got that horrible watery mouth feeling like I was going to hurl. The only thing I could do was keep spitting out the Water in my mouth until things settled down internally. I had not overdrank or overeaten. In fact, I had not had a drink for probably 15-20 minutes while out walking, but this was definitely like the one time I took too big of a sip and was already full or at least close to being full and paid for it by feeling like I was going to puke. So at first I was puzzled but then I noticed the sinus thing... So, has anyone else had to deal with this? Aside from starting to take allergy pills, is there anything to do to avoid this occurrence? -
Well, I'm four days post-op now and feeling pretty da*n good! I'm still a bit sore on the right side where my port is, but my swollen belly is going down finally! Yeah! I can see my toes again! Still having a little gas pain here and there, mainly right smack in the middle of my chest. Walking and standing with my arms over my head usually helps and usually ends with a huge belch (was that TMI?). Went school shopping for my sons today. Did good, but getting in and out of my Jeep became a pain after about 3 hours. I haven't used my pain med in two days but seem to be living on Gas-X strips. My surgeon used skin adhesive, so I'm able to take a quick shower each day as long as I don't let my incision sites get soaked and I pat them dry real good. And boy, are they itchy!!! I've been wearing an abdominal binder during the day to support my muscles when I sit/stand or lie down/get up. It really helps. My abdomen is definitely less sore at the end of the day. As for my diet, my surgeon and dietician had me on clear liquids on Day 1, then full liquids after that for a week, but I was given the okay to advance slowly as tolerated before the week is up if I stay hungry. I've been doing great on the full liquids, and drinking protein shakes 3 times a day, but find that I am feeling hungry after 2-3 hours. I may try some soft scrambled eggs in the AM. I go for my first follow-up next Wednesday (7/28) and hope I can get my first fill since I only have about 1 cc of fluid and feel no restriction at all! So far, my experience has been awesome. I can't wait to see how I'll feel (and how much I lose) in the next month or so. Will keep you posted. Good luck to all of you.:smile2:

Is anyone else experiencing painful (moderate) burps? I feel like burping should be good, but I get a bit of discomfort under my ribs each time. Kinda sucks, but certainly bearable. Also this stabbing shoulder pain that seems to keep coming out of nowhere is driving me crazy! On a high note, riding in the car does not hurt my belly anymore. My port site is the only thing that appears to be tender. I sneezed a couple of times today...OUCH! Can't wait to feel normal again - every day is closer, though! To answer another's question (sorry I didn't remember your screen name before I started typing my reply!) I don't not have any bruising. I think I am definitely swollen at the port site, though - seems to stick out more than the rest of my stomach. I went #2 yesterday - that was a relief and not painful at all. OK - TMI, but seems to be a shared concern post-surgery so I though I'd share I seem to be getting a little more interested in food. I pureed some Mexican leftovers that my family had for dinner (chicken, Beans, guac, sour cream) the first few bites were OK, then it just seemed to gross to eat. That has been my experience with everything I've tried to "make." I think I'm better off sticking with slimfast, Yogurt, pudding and cream soups! Tomorrow is my husband's b-day - we are going out to eat to one of my favorite restaurants. I am so excited to have some Lobster Bisque! I'm sure I could use the calories at this point...I'm not getting many in right now. Happy Healing everyone:thumbup:

OK guys, I need someone to PLEASE make me one of those catch up summary lists- to tell me what happened the last week! Between unpacking, grocery shopping, returning calls/emails, watching Nels, and trying to let DH have 2 days of "rest" before being on call on Monday... I am overbooked, to say the least! I have a sore throat and chills. At first glance it looked like strep, but both of us have decided it looks like a viral exudative (white stuff) tonsillitis. So I am sick and jet lagged... whoa boy. The vacation was 7 days, but you have to count a day of travel there and one back. We planned it that way for many reasons. 1) Europe is VERY expensive. Two espressos and a sprite at a cafe on the streets of Paris, $25 Euros = $32. 2) First overseas vacation with a 6 year old. We weren't sure how much he could take 3) We weren't sure how much we could take! In the end it was a perfect amount of time. Only thing I would have done differently was added staying over a night in London. The "day trip" thing was too short for us. I have two days of photos I still need to add. The 21st- our anniv. and then yesterday. CRS (can't remember if I told you this), Nelson has a wicked front bottom loose tooth. He REFUSES to let anyone help it get out and he won't do it. He said he heard the tooth fairy will still give you money even if you swallow it. BUT... he won't eat! He is living on juice, milk, pringles, yogurt and ice cream. I haven't weighed him, but I am sure he lost 2 lbs this week. (I do realize he is FAR from starving to death). I wanted to just yank it while pretending to be looking at it.. and DH is adamantly against it. He says you don't want to lose trust, etc. He is much more patient with these things then I am. Before I forget , Janet........... happy bandiversary! I know there were some others too. H.B. to you too. Janet, your photos are so inspirational, really. What a great example you are to us! Thank you. I weighed myself this a.m. (no BM x 2 days, TMI- but had to say).... and I only gained one pound. VERY proud of myself. Thought it would be worse. Didn't eat that much but did have some drinkie-poos every day! Love you guys and will await the angel of summary updates! CBL..........peasout! Laura

I was banded on 7/19. Doing really well with everything! 1st day, it was the shoulder pain!!! Ouch! Yes - hurt WAY more than the incisions! Much better now, though. I have walked a bunch every day. Today I am just on advil, and I didn't even take a nap. Went shopping @ Sam's with my mom (she did the heavy lifting!). Feeling so optimistic. My incisions look great except for the one in my belly button. It just gives me the willy's to look at it, but I think it's fine. I think I can feel where my port it - a little more swollen there - used some ice on it today and that felt good. I also had a hernia repair. I was told I didn't have one when I had my EDG done, but I guess they did see a small one when they were actually in there, so my surgeon fixed it. I'm glad because I was having reflux at night so I am hoping that will be gone now! I'm on pureed foods. Tonight I pureed about a 2 x 2 piece of lasgna with some tomato soup. It was like heaven after all these protein shakes! I can't say that I'm really eating cuz I'm hungry - just to keep my strength up and to hopfully go potty soon (TMI). Everything is going down fine - I pureed some tuna fish and lt. mayo with pickle juice - about 3 bites was enough of that, but it did taste pretty good. As long as it is no thicker than pudding and smooth, I can eat it. 2 weeks of this then on to mushies for 2 weeks, then normal. Good luck to all the newbies on this thread!

Have you considered Mirena? That has worked wonders for me. Before the Mirena I had an extremely heavy flow( I know, TMI) and always had to wear a super huge pad AND a tampon:cursing:. I would probably change it every 2/3 hours. But now all I have is spotting when my period comes around , Its great! Best part, no weight gain and I don't have to worry about taking pills everyday. You should ask your doc about it.

How long after surgery ....
michellegetsbanded posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you guys start to go #2?? Sorry if it's TMI but I was banded on Friday and I haven't #2 yet is this normal. I'm guessing it would be since your not getting any food in but I was curious how long it took everyone else and did you have to take laxatives or fiber etc... -
yes! you can definately add me as a friend!
I am having a very hard time with the exercise piece too. i have just been walking. I started by walking up my street, because it is a rather steep hill, and then I walked around the block, and then I walked a little farther. I actually walked a mile the other day, but then I pulled a muscle lifting a box and havent walked since.
I am actually kinda worried right now, because I have a rash on my side where my skin folds over itself, (sprry if thats TMI) and im worried if its not better that they wont do the surgery.
I will let you know how I am after surgery. I am very nervous, but also looking forward to it, or at least looking forward to getting it overwith.

I know this will be one of those posts that ppl will be thinking TMI, but I don't know where else to go to. So here it is..I was banded 7/13 tues and I haven't gone to the bathroom yet. It's been 5 days, is this normal? Any suggestions on if I should take a stool softner or just wait it out a few more days. Also off the subject of that Im starting to feel better and my hunger seems to be increasing..is it normal to feel hungry all the time? my doc has me on a full liquid diet so just cream of wheat, oatmeal, cottege cheese, pudding, yogurt, CIB's all that good stuff but the diet guidelines he has his patients follow is saying only have 1/2 cup cream of wheat, 4oz of yogurt ect. I dont have restriction yet, but it just doesnt seem to be enough. It's not just head hunger either, I wait it out, drink some fluids for a while see if the hunger pains go away and they're still there? any suggestions for this? I don't want to be eating more than he wants me to bc I don't want my stomach to stretch. thanks for the help!

Right now I'm on blenderized food. My doc told me to try to balance my meals by having one Protein source and one of "something else". I'm trying to make veggies the "something else". I use canned veggies because they are easier to blenderize. I'm sure my diet will evolve and change as I come off mushie stuff. (TMI Alert!) Anyways, since I've started eating more veggies, I've not been so constipated.

Judy, good to see you posting! Here is a TMI moment, I had really bad gas last night, I farted all night. Kept thinking good thing I am single!! Alright, off to work!!!

Good Morning; I was banded 7/1 and have been following my Dr's eating plan. This has resulted in constipation with no movement for 3 days at least. I tried prune juice, xlax tabs and chocholate. No help. I finally tried Miralax. This is a powder when mixed has no taste. I mix mine with Chystal Lite and I don't even know its there. I don't want to do TMI, but it works just fine. When I was only a few days old with the band I didn't want to strain, but I also didn't want to get bound up. This may be "Old News", but I wanted to pass this along. Regards Hal

Soda's...what is the deal?
Tiffykins replied to Lori21769's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was cleared for caffeine as soon as I was able to get in all my clear fluids. Just to let you know, I now drink a minimum of 12-20oz of coffee per day, and I'm still never hungry:thumbup: I've been drinking caffeine for months on end, and have never had any direct correlation to hunger with caffeine. It is a stimulant, but the only thing it stimulates is my bowels. TMI, I know, but it keeps me regular. -
Hi everyone! I have to say that I'm a little tired today. I went out with a LB support group friend last night and didn't get home until 11:30. That is late for me!! We met for dinner then went to see the musical Dreamgirls. We had a GREAT time! I feel so blessed to have met her. But I had a hard time getting to sleep and (pardon my TMI) I am feeling constipated the last couple of days. That is unusual for me so I'm getting a little annoyed with it. I think part of my problem is my lack of exercise this week. It will be a full week for me today without ANY kind of organized exercise. I feel sure that once I get back to it, my energy will take off. I have Jazzercise tonight, so that will be fun. I am supposed to go see Master Bruce tomorrow night which is fine, I guess. I have really gotten to the point I dislike him and don't want to go anymore which is too bad. I only have 4 more prepaid sessions I need to use and then I can focus on trying something else. Any ideas? I am trying to think of something fun to do probably once a week that would be a little different (to supplement the Jazzercise and running.) Mostly, I'm just looking forward to a weekend at home! I loved going to Louisiana and Kansas, but I'm ready for a break. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday!!

Warning- This may be gross or TMI for some: I have been waking up a few hours after falling asleep almost every night after starting on solids, coughing up stomach contents (digested, not solid food, along with stomach acid), as if i have regurgitated in my sleep and started choking on it while sleeping and it doesn't wake me up until i have started choking. Then i sit up and cough stuff out of my lungs for about 10-15 minutes. It is not only really gross, but today for the 2nd time in 2 weeks, i have woken up early with a high fever and severe body aches and pains, sore skin, all the traditional flu like symptoms except for congestion or stomach problems. Both times I have woken up about 5am with the fever and severe body pains and unable to go back to sleep for hours until my fever breaks and the pains subside. It makes me wonder if I am getting stomach contents into my lungs and it is causing a bit of infection. About two weeks ago I got sick with the same type of thing and the Dr. put me on antibiotics assuming i had an infection that was a result of a virus. It did not cross my mind that it could be from aspirating food. I don't have chest pain. But it only makes sense that just a little bit of stomach contents would be all it takes entering the lungs to become infected because it is foreign to that part of the body. I keep from eating 2 hours before bed, but this has been happening since I moved to solid foods and also since i have been laying flat at night on my side or back with one pillow. The initial weeks after surgery i was propped up with about 5 pillows almost to the point of sitting up. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Or heard of it? It seems awfully weird. I don't want to start taking antibiotics again because of the damage it does on the immune system, but at the same time i don't want to be fighting off infection continuously.

Missing your old foods?
bambam31 replied to Fluffyhusker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
food demons will always have to be managed - banded or not. The band is a tool which does give you a competitive edge to defeat them, but you must still have the will power say "no" or "stop." This is especially true in the evenings when it's easier to cheat the band. I have to be very careful not to get a "flow" going, but if I do I have to say STOP! By "flow" I mean that the pouch is well lubricated (mucous and/or beverage - TMI, I know) and you can train food without ever filling the pouch. Many people will tell you that if this is happening you need a fill. Not so fast... Most of the day I'm very restricted (I wouldn't want it any tighter at all!) but by evening I CAN eat far more than I should - I just have to say no. It still takes will power and a close eye on the energy balance. I go in cycles similar to this. You can't be 100% on your game all day every day, and day after day. There are periods when I'm very focused and wouldn't consider eating junk food ; Periods where I eat less than perfect foods in a controlled manner ; Periods where I eat waaaay toooooo much junk food and have to make a conscious intervention. The difference with the band/exercise lifestyle is that the cycle is much easier to control/break than before. Brad -
i swear i went though that phase a couple of weeks ago...all i wanted to do was eat everything!! i swear healthy food, un healthy food.. (calorie filled drinks, which I havent done since surgery) i swear i wanted anything and everything! but then i took a nude picture of myself..(TMI i know) and it help me snap back into reality!! lol what are you gonna do to celebrate your bandiversary??

Surgery while having period?????
kagead replied to jln0424's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. Had my period during my surgery. Probably too much TMI ahead, so consider yourself warned: They let me put in a fresh tampon before I went in (actual surgery was only 45 minutes and that included a hiatal hernia repair!), but I was in recovery much longer than expected so said tampon had to come out at some point. They didn't have tampons in the PACU, so I was given some "boy short" panties and a huge pad to wear which was not fun, but not horrible in the grand scheme of things. kagead
