Funny NSV ( well I think so anyways)

It is so hard for our minds to catch up to our actual body size. I still see pictures of myself now, and I can't believe that they are actually of me. I was walking next to my skinny husband ( he has always been thin) and I saw our shadows, and I just couldn't believe that my shadow was smaller then his....that is a major NSV for me! Another NSV that I thought would never happen....my hubby is able to scoop me up in his arms and carry me! It is so thrilling, and makes me feel sooooo sexy!
  2. My silly little NSV...I bought something at Victoria Secret...albeit it was only a sweatshirt...but it was a size Large and if you have ever been to Victoria Secret even their size Large is small. Truth is 6 months ago I would have never had the confidence to walk into that place..next time, I am buying the whole shebang,,,undies and a matching bra..lol

    2 months: progress so far

GREAT WORK!!! Remember -- you see yourself every day. Trust me, I'm sure others are noticing! And, like you said, the NSV are AMAZING!!! Congratulations!

    favorite NSV's/most anticipated NSV's

Today's NSV... I crashed my bike and didn't get injured/killed. When I was 360 I was petrified of crashing because with all the force from my weight, I could get really injured from just a minor crash.. Today, I had a minor crash and was more worried about the bike than me... and we're BOTH fine!
  6. I went shopping and bought size 14 pants (down from a tight 22), XL shirts (down from 2x), and today I took my ring in to be sized before they fall off and get lost. I'll be wearing a 6 1/2 next week when I pick them up! And I still hate shopping, but it was nice to not have to go to the women's section to find clothes that fit.

    NSV

A few years ago some friends came to visit. We live about 5 minutes from Six Flags and our families went to the park. I wanted to ride the Batman ride. I get on and could get the seat all the day to get the buckle to work. The guy was rushing to make sure everyone was set and I had to get off because I was just too big to fit. On Friday night my daughter, her friend and I went to Six Flags and I rode Batman! (and Superman!) It really meant A LOT to me to say I can do anything a normal person can do again! And then I said, "Why am I riding a roller coaster?!" I "cheated" death on those two roller coasters LOL and now I am done with roller coasters, I think, but so proud, happy and normal!!!!!
  8. Fit, I friend if mine had this saying, "how do you eat an elephant?.... One bite at a time!!" He meant that to look at a task that is really large you complete it one step at a time. Celebrate the intirim goals, that will give you victories and help keep motivated!! Plus its nice to have wins!!! In our cases if we have 100 pounds to lose, and set 10-10# wieght loss minigoals and we only lose 90 pounds, thats is still damn good!! Do we meet our ultimate goal, no, but we reached 9 minigoals, have 9 victories and still lost 90pounds!!! Plus we probably had a few NSV's along the way!!! Thats awesome and pretty good!! We would all be that much healthier and skinnier and better off!!! Every large task I have undetaking since, i have looked at the same way.
  9. My daughter and I were on vacation and had walked into a store that we have never been in. As we were walking around the produce section I looked across the store and I saw two people that had on our same outfits. The one I noticed first was the lady dressed like me, only she was much thinner then I was. Then I noticed the other woman, and realized she had the same outfit on as my daughter, I walked over to my girl to point the two out to her, and then it hit me! I wasn't looking across the store at two different women wearing our outfits, I was looking into a big mirror that was placed there ( I guess to make the store look bigger) and so of course I was seeing us....I just didn't realize that I was so much thinner then my mind gave me credit for. I still pointed it out to her while laughing at myself....we both started laughing so hard, that I am sure that anyone else that was around must of thought we were either completely nuts, or just on some kind of drugs! Lol Well that I consider an NSV right there....not even recognizing myself in a mirror! Haha Hope you enjoyed my silly little NSV!
  10. I think it is very important to have goals in mind. Some NSV's, some scale/BMI. You need to have big overall goals, But you also need to have some that are very realistic and attainable. It really helps if you take a big weight loss or BMI number and break it into quarters or eighths or tenths. That way, if you have trouble along the way, you have smaller victories to motivate you.
  11. That is an awesome NSV! I had one today also! I can wear my 10 year old sons shirts, they are L youth. made my day!!!
  12. So I am a Lane Bryant girl by necessity and I haven't been there in a while because I had clothes in my closet that were smaller from on my way UP. So I walk in and they know me there and the sales lady says "wow ! Look at you getting all skinny! You look great!" I was in shock I guess because I have been losing slow so I guess I didn't realize the impact. I am almost 3 months out and have lost 25 pounds since surgery and 35 since preop. That s slow compared to a lot of others but I feel like as long as I keep losing ill be fine. To top off the whole visit to Lane Bryant, I need work pants and and 18 looked great! My 22's were falling off so I thought I old need a 20 but nope! It's an 18 and not tight at all I was pushing a 28 when I was at my highest so I have lost 10 sizes. One word...Unbelievable!..... So if you are undecided on whether you want to take the leap of faith, I tell you that NOTHING has worked for me. Even the lap band along with every diet you can imagine. This is working and I feel great. I can exercise without feeling like I am going to die. I can eat healthy and be ok with it. Life is great and I love my sleeve

    Longer term Success

Wow terrific advise to stay focus and sweat the little stuff. When I want to have a pity party for myself I concentrate on my ever increasing NSV's. Not being concern if the ladder I am on will hold me. When I was 330 lbs I was climbing on an old wooden ladder on a Water tank and I broke 3 steps. Walking up and down stairs without losing my breath. Not worrying if the chair in the cafe will hold me. Take care

  17. My surgery was June 10, 2013 and today I did my first 5K. Finished in just over 42 minutes! I can't run the whole way yet, but I'm not doing too bad!
  18. We have a friend visiting and he's very intrigued by our tiny portion sizes. He just can't get over it. Unfortunately the poor man is also probably starving. We think we're making him a huge portion--and compared to our food we are--but I suspect it is not nearly enough. After lunch yesterday, I offered to make him a peanut butter sandwich, and he didn't say no. Oops. Funny how quickly we forget what a normal portion size looks like. I mean, we've all eaten normal-to-large portion sizes all our lives! I'm very encouraged to see that even as early as 7 weeks post-op, we're now clueless as to what a normal portion size for an unsleeved person looks like. I can however, cast a critical eye over my husband's plate and know that he's put more than 4 oz on his plate, that he won't finish it, that he will be uncomfortable afterwards and will complain My own two ounce portion is getting equally easy to judge. For all those wondering if you'll be able to reduce your eating, I hope this is encouraging to see how quickly our bodies, minds, and eyes adapt to our new reality. Our new reality now is what our sleeve holds. I still measure and weigh every meal, but I'm learning fast. Love my sleeve. <3

    White Poop

So it's been a long day. I went to the doctor this morning and at first she said: 'Lets run some blood tests and get a stool and urine sample. If I don't find anything with those I will send you to have an ultrasound.' I said sure and waited while she left to print off my paperwork to take downstairs to the lab. A few minutes later she walked back in with a frown and told me she had done some research and wanted me to have the ultrasound right now. So they called down to radiology and had someone brought in just to give me the total abdominal ultrasound. (Which btw is no longer painful now that they no longer have to dig the stick into me to get a decent picture! NSV!!!!) While I was having the ultrasound done, the tech turned the screen to me and pointed at it. She showed me my gallbladder, which showed up very clearly, then pointed at a massive amount of white spots. 'These, are gallstones.' she told me. 'But I am not a doctor so I can't say that for sure.' Grrrreeeaaat! There was a LOT of stones in there. Sigh. I don't have any vacation or sick days left if they decide to take it out. Will have to pray I can get leave or something. On the bright side, I met my out of pocket awhile ago. P.S. Digging through my poop was disgusting!!!

    Getting on Plane this Sunday

At under 300 pounds you shouldn't need to worry that they won't let you fly or will require a second seat. You are making great progress and your internal mental image may not be in synch with your new trimmer body. I'm sure everything will go smoothly and you will be pleasantly surprised at how much you have changed since the last time you flew! Keep up the good work and be prepared for a NSV when you realize how much easier it is to travel at less than 300 pounds! I am flying for the first time post surgery on 9/29 and am hoping I won't need the extender this time! We have to embrace and rejoice in the little victories along the path to a healthy body!

    MotheR in law issues

Newat52, your reply really resonated with me yesterday and I put all of my energy into resetting my mindset (and doing my hair/makep/etc. - tried to look and feel my best when I walked through the door). I had a smile on my face and I kept my son by my side the entire time (he's 18 and very funny, I asked him to not leave me alone with her so she couldn't slide in any comments that others can't hear like she typically does). Anyway, she seemed pretty confused about half an hour in. We were there for two hours, and she said, wow, you seem so more confident and relaxed in your own skin! I haven't seen you look this good in years! Every time she said something nice I went out of my way to respond warmly and genuinely. I never once gave her an inch to say or do anything "off" and I actually realized I was enjoying myself! GASP!!! I was laughing and joking and when we got home, my husband to,d me that was one of the best visits we've had in years!!!! And his mom pulled him aside and told him that this surgery was the best decision I/we've made and she's so happy to see the old me shinig through... So I must say your advice was EXACTLY what I needed to hear to get me to focus on the positive and not the negative. And I also realized that maybe I have been overly sensitive and prickly, always waiting for the "attack" and being on defense mode instead of relaxing and trying to just be myself. So while we may not have the best of relationships, at least I know we can spend time together without conflict if I just get my head right and not give her an opportunity or reason to criticize me or our relationship. I think this was my first NSV! Thanks again for the great advice and I hope you have a terrific day! All my best, Blue

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Didn't do c25k today but I did have a NSV(sorry if this is a duplicate story) ... While I was waiting on my mom to land, I parked and went into the airport and walked around baggage claim, I had around 45 minutes, did over three miles, and as I was walking, I had to control myself because my body wanted to run....WANTED TO RUN !? what? I had to give myself a mental pat on the back... It was awesome!
