    April 2023 GSV updates?

I had mine in May of 2023. I'm doing great , thanks for asking ! I've been eating low carb ,very small portions and except for a months long stall, everything is going a-ok I haven't had any carbonated drinks or alcohol so far, but I don't miss it. My stomach handles everything good with no problems. I'm down 2 sizes and couldn't be happier ! All my lab work have been perfect and I'm off 3 meds that I took for a long time. Diabetes is no longer in my future ! How have you been since your surgery ? You lost a ton !!!!!
  4. I just had my first appointment with the surgeon. It went really well, and I’m glad I took the first step. We are leaning toward Gastric Bypass as the procedure for me. It’s a 3 month process to surgery with his office, 3 visits with him, 3 visits with dietician, plus clearance by Cardiology, Pulmonology and sleep medicine. My next visit with him and the dietician will be in about a month and he’s sending out the referrals to the offices for the clearances and working on prior authorization with insurance.

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

My date is may 2nd…… On my second week of diet as or yesterday. Having the hardest time w/this diet, only cause I'm diabetic and on depression meds, and I have to put something in my System to take them. I have dizziness, fatigue , and tend to be light headed at times. It took me over a year and a half to get to this surgery. Was scheduled for 3/12/24 but had a issue w/kidney. All good now, so don't wanna do anything to get it postponed again. GOOD LUCK 🎲 TO ALL MAY PATIENTS !!!
  6. I’m so sorry to hear this. I wish I had some words of wisdom for you, but honestly, I don’t. During these days of the stall, are you still noticing that your clothes are fitting looser? I was told not to be so dependent on the scale but more on noticing the weight coming off as far as how I feel in clothes. I don’t recall if you have a dietitian or someone that you check in with? If you do, you may wanna contact them or contact your doctor and talk this over with them. I don’t doubt that more weight is going to come off, I’m more concerned about your mental state. No giving up, OK??
  7. Hi everyone, just wondering how those that had the sleeve in April 2023 are doing? How is your journey going so far? any setbacks? Stalls? New successes?

    Melatonin

I use melatonin 5mg during the week and I add ashwagandha on the weekend and anytime during the week where I don't feel I'm getting a good quality sleep. I try not to use them EVERY single day, but some weeks I have to and other weeks I don't have to at all. Just depends what's going on during the day.

Stir fry cauliflower rice with tofu

Just made this. It serves 8-10 2-3 oz servings. Has sat well on my stomach in the pureed phase. 1 lb. soft tofu 1 bag of cauliflower stir fry rice with edamame and carrots Marinade 3 TBspoon soy 1 Tbspoon hoisin sauce 1-2 Tbspoon sriracha sauce 2 dashes of soybean oil Tsp spring roll sweet and sour Squeeze excess liquid from tofu by putting on a plate and laying 2-3 plates on top about 20 minutes. Dump excess liquid. Put tofu and marinade in zip bag for overnight. Put bag of cauliflower rice in microwave for 2 mins Drain tofu of excess marinade. Stir fry on med hi with a little soybean oil. It will look like scrambled egg that goes in stir fry rice. Add cauli rice and stir up to heat through. Slotted spoon to serve. No this is not restaurant stir fried rice. But it is also not carb heavy or calorie heavy. 1/3 cup is 68 cal, 2 fat grams, 7 protein grams, 6 gr carb.

    Travel 6 months Post-op

Hello Congrats on your upcoming surgery, hope it goes smoothly. I traveled 3 weeks, 3 months and will be travelling 7 months post surgery. It was all smooth, my first trip was with my hubby and kids, so I would just eat tiny bits of their food, second trip was with hubby only and we would always order a salad/veggie dish and a healthy/ish entree where I would eat a bit of protein and a bit of veggies and my hubby's mission was to clear the rest lol. As to what to pack, I only packed my vitamins and probiotics, if you can pack some high protein snacks like beef jerky, bars ...etc. then do that as I would get hungrier often due to all the walking and would need a snack, but where I traveled the supplement shops were always available so ... Don't stress it, enjoy your time and food. P.S. : If there were leftovers I would always give them out to anyone in need ❤️

  13. Hello all! Newbie here! I had gastric bypass surgery on August 8. Since then, I have not been able to meet my fluid or protein requirements, or even get close honestly. My Dr and dietitian just say "well, you have to." I'm still feeling weak and tired and just want to feel better! Does anyone have any tips, tricks, recipes (I'm on stage 3) that might help?
  14. This usually means you lost some fat and gained some muscle mass. Which is a good thing! yay muscles! over the last several months (due to my increased exercise regime i assume) my 7 day running weight average has increased by about 3 lbs, but my pants are falling off me again like those fun early weeks immediately after WLS (and my pants are already pretty small to begin with omg). but i also think this is a good thing though:...yay shopping for new pants! lol do you take your body measurements regularly? sometimes looking over historical body measurements over time paint a better picture than the number on the scale....

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

@BlueParis Frustrating as it is, I think it takes most people about a year to reach their lowest weight. Those lucky few who drop the weight really fast are unusual. I know it's hard! But you're a healthy weight and looking great, so it's worth being proud of how much you've accomplished, especially with such a difficult travel schedule. At least your stall has broken! As for scars, mine are similarly dark purple. This is not a surprise to me as I get very dark scars, even from spider bites. Those pajama pictures reminded me that I had to get rid of an old favorite pair of pajamas as they were much too large. I look forward to buying a cozy new pair when the cold weather rolls around! I honestly don't know how anyone stays on track while traveling, especially on vacation. It is so hard when eating at restaurants non-stop, not to mention being surrounded by snack foods and temptations like ice cream and candy, which are much too easy to eat. I dread what my weight will be at the end of the week when I get home from my family trip. This will be the most days in a row I've missed weighing myself since surgery. But now that I've had a day of indulging in some treats, and realizing that eating junk isn't as appealing as I remember and kind of makes me feel blah, I'm hoping I'll be better about limiting myself to the healthiest options I can find.

    3mo follow-up review

How confusing re your bloods! I have quarterly bloods taken which have some overlap with those requested by the Bariatric team. I queried this and all they did was take one lot of bloods, put all the results on the system and alert both requesting consultants. I certainly didn’t want 2 separate lots of blood being drawn that say the same thing 😬 Isn’t it annoying when either you do as they ask and they tell you off or they haven’t told you to do something but should have and then tell you off for not knowing?? At least it seems that you have a grip on things, are able to keep on doing what’s best for you knowing that things are moving forward for you. Well done on your success so far. I hope your stall breaks sooner rather than later!

I have 30 more pounds to go to get to my dream goal of 130. I’ve been stuck fore about 3 weeks. I’m not too happy about that. Hopefully everyone else is doing better than me!

    Time off work?

When I had my sleeve, I took 2 weeks off (desk job). When I had my revision to bypass a year later, I felt fantastic and only took a week off. I had a harder time with the sleeve than I did they bypass, but everyone is different. A week is absolutely essential, 2 weeks seems to be the average, some even take 3 weeks off. Personally, I had my doctor write a note saying I needed 2 weeks off, that way I knew I had it. I needed all of it with the sleeve, but I was able to go back after a week with the bypass so I just had my doctor write a new note saying I was cleared to go back after a week.

  21. We have the same surgery date!! I'm lucky in that they don't require a full 2 weeks of the pre-op diet for me. I start on Tuesday, but no meal for dinner. Protein drinks for all 3 meals and then other stuff for snacks. Best of luck to you!!!!

    October 2023 surgery buddies

Hi there. It sounds like you're doing well. As for me, I'm 60, 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 223 at time of surgery. I have only lost 12 pounds so far and am at the dreaded 3 week stall. I just have to be more patient.
  23. I’ve only managed to lose 4lbs since my stall. It’s discouraging! I’ve lost 28lbs since my surgery but I’m ready to start losing again. I still throw up once in awhile. I’m going to ask my surgeon about it when I finally get my post op appt. She was out on the day they had scheduled me so I’ve been put off til the 25th. Other than that just trudging along right now.
  24. Wow. I concur with @ms.sss. You did get the short end of the stick. I had the sleeve for years and then I had a revision to RNY (~3 years) and I don't have any of those issues. In fact, I can't even think of any negatives. Except if I eat too fast, it may cause the foamies. I'm so sorry you're going through all that. I have no problem with my vitamins, I wear a MV patch and sometimes I'll take high ADEK chewable. My vitamin A was slightly low so that's why I started taking the high ADEK a few times a week. I also never heard of cold sores lower immunity and fungal infections... Etc. after WLS. I sure hope things and improve for you.
