  1. eating boullion AGAIN... is this normal to "eat" all the time the first week. I am getting in boullion, water, sf popsicles and sf jello. I feel like I am doing it ALL the time!!! Not that I am worried about weight gain, just wondering if anyone else "ate" all the time the week after surgery. I know I am suppose to be getting my water in and I have been so far. :clap2:
  2. Hello everyone I am new to this page I am 5 months in to my insurance approval process, and I just met with my surgeon here in Birmingham Alabama. Before i met with him i was looking at the Gastric bypass mainly for the reasons of negative reinforcement from dumping. Once i met with him he recommended the sleeve. I know in the end its up to me iI have done a ton of research lately and the sleeve and bypass seem to have the same weight loss percentage just a different amount of time. I also worry about weight gain after the fact i know it can happen with both. My Surgeon told me that a lot of the reason he recommends the sleeve is because of my job which is 75 to 80 percent of the time behind a desk. but the other i might be doing a lot of heavy lifting and walking with heavy loads. I am 6'3 420 currently and not sure which way to go I would love as much advice as i can get I am also putting this on the Gastric Sleeve board as i am confused as ever.
  3. I had surgery 1 week ago today. I was on clear liquids until yesterday with no protein. Yesterday I was able to add to that diet cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, pudding, mashed veggies, mashed potatoes, and so on. Basically a pureed diet. I know I should not weig myself too often, but I could not resist. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to have gained back a pound. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just a reaction to having basically no calories to finally having some. Everything was low fat or fat free. I am freaking out that I will gain back the 12 pounds I lost and confused how eating only 800 calories can make you gain a pound. Thanks.

The mind game. How do you handle it?

Sorry, the above response was to joasaint, obviously I need to pay attention to detail more ! And he wasn't the one looking for an answer ! (Geesh ! I need to go find my meds ! ) To enjoythetime, and I say this with all due respect, you've lost159 (!) pounds , and you're asking about a tiny weight gain of 3-5 lbs ? Wow is all I can say! Congratulations on your weight loss ! Id consider a temporary 3-5 lb Weight gain as nothing to worry about, but thats just me. Congratulations again !
  5. Nope. Medications don't make you gain or retain weight unless it is in the form of Water weight, which your medication should not be causing. They do however make you hungrier and as a result one of the side effects listed may be weight gain. I use Depo which is notorious for causing weight gain, however ultimately I know that if I eat more, I gain and if I don't eat more, I lose, so the problem is not the depo as much as the hunger it creates. Also, 22 pounds in roughly 5 weeks is completely normal. I think at about 5 weeks I had roughly lost 20 pounds. Slow and steady wins the race. Keep following the plan and you will see results.
  6. Hi everyone I'm 21 and am getting banded August 13 Today I was prescribed Yasmin pills to regulate my heavy and painful periods. The doc assured me that this brand would not cause weight gain So my only concern is whether i will be able to continue taking them once i get the band I am taking them purely because my periods are horrible and has caused my Iron to be really really low Has anyone else taken them for this reason?

Will Miss Birdee... take satisfaction in this... you made a very intelligent and healthy choice for your body now and down the road. Your body can absorb all of the nurtrients it needs and when you are an older Birdie... your bones will thank you! It's too bad she didn't listen to you and one day she may look back and think... *Damn... that Birdee was really smart and I wish I would have listened to her instead of being a boogerbutt* My Sissy is having trouble with weight gain with her RNY GBP... but... she is also putting on the breaks and trying to work with the tool that she went through so much to get! Before your band... if you lost this much weight... would you have gained it back by now... plus more????? I know that is why I am hopeful about getting banded... not because I will lose the weight fast... because I will lose it for good! (((hugs)))
  8. I came home from the hospital on Friday after gastric bypass revision from lapband on Tuesday and I had gained 19#'s. I know that it is from all the fluids given to me while in the hospital, but it still feels like a set back. I was very swollen and that has gone down and I have lost 17 of the 19#'s. but it looks like at my one week f/u on Thursday I will probably just barely be below weight day of surgery? Did anyone else experience this.?

HI! New & need lots of advice!!

Hi! I can relate to your weight gain. I weighed about the same as you did, and then had a few traumatic events in my life. I gained over 100 lbs. 60 lbs. due to anti-depressants. Anyway, I think it is different for every state and every insurance company. My insurance did not cover mine. My husband had it done, also. I would find out if there are any local seminars you can attend. That was the first step for me. Once that was over with, the process just rolled on! They have a pre-op diet of liquids: Slim-Fast, clear broths, and Protein shakes, and Vitamins. This is to shrink your liver. You will have to have a sleep study, so if you want to get that under way, go ahead. Some places require a note from a psychologist. If you see a psychologist, it wouldn't hurt to do that. You definitely can have the surgery, and I think you would be more than pleased with it! It takes time, but it is worth it! At first, it seems overwhelming, but take it one day at a time, and before you know it...you are banded! You should be able to call your insurance company and ask if they cover morbid obesity. Good luck to you and in whatever you decision you make! Kristi:thumbup:

    2Nd Approval

Do not give up girl! I remember running back and forth to my primary for recommendations and paperwork to give to my surgeon so they can submit it! My primary even made a graph showing my yearly weight gain. Insurances are never easy but you break em sooner or later! Good luck you'll be fine!!!! Let us know your surgery date;)

    struggling one week post op

If I see another shake I will hurt someone. Just discovered isopure drinks. LOVE them. 40 grams of protein per bottle. Just got a case a GNC. It's a very refreshing drink in the hot and humid weather we are having right now. Finally getting my 60 grams of protein in per day. Yea for me. This has been the emotional turning point for me. I'm exactly one week post op. But struggling with the food craving. Getting alot of quilting done. Can't eat, SEW or walk. Been walking alot also. Finally back done to my preop weight. Boy, that weight gain after surgery really is upsetting even though I knew it was temporary, Just depressing. I weight 25 pounds more post op from all the fluids and air forced into me. Today is looking brighter.
  12. I had my RNY on December 13, 2016. I have followed every instruction from my dietician and surgeon without any cheating. I have weighed all my food, meeting my Protein goals, meeting my Water goals, and keeping a food diary. My weight has been steadily decreasing about 1 to 2 pounds a day. Today I wake up and weigh myself and there was no change in my weight. I weighed the same as yesterday. I'm ok with that. However later in the morning I weighed again and I had gained 3 pounds! How is it possible to gain 3 pounds in a matter of hours? I understand there may be plateaus, but gaining in a matter of hours is really upsetting. Has anyone else had this experience? 13. I don't weigh daily. I just weigh monthly. Have seen a downward trend each and every month for the past year and a half. I personally, can't handle daily fluctuations. Many people can. I'm not one of them. I may change to weekly weigh-ins once I get to maintenance, but for now, once a month is the way I avoid those fluctuations.......You've probably always had a little weight gain from Fluid retention during your cycle, but you're probably in super excited mode about your stellar weight loss that you have a heightened awareness of the numbers on the scale. Give it a few days and weigh again. VIOLA .......You may be even below that 150 mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Insurance companies typically go by your starting weight. Contact them for verification. Nevertheless, unless your BMI drops below 40 you should be good regardless. No weight gain over the course of your diet, nutrition, and/ore exercise program. For my 13wk pre-op I stayed the exact same weight. My BMI dropped because my lean muscle mass increased. So, it's not just as simple as weight gain.

    Weight Gain

My advice would be to only weigh yourself once a week. I drive myself crazy weighing myself too much and it's something I still struggle with. I know that I gain weight as the day goes on so I can understand the weight gain. It's definitely hard but try for once a week . You are still early out from surgery and I did experience some weight gain in the couple weeks after my surgery. Continue to eat right and eventually exercise and you should be fine . Pre-Op Blues

BTW a good point my best friend made...maybe I needed this weight gain to realize how much I do need the Lapband...talking about seeing the glass half full.
  17. Some surgeons require you to lose prior to surgery to show commitment to the program. Sometimes it is the insurance company making the demand. My surgeon's rule was that once I began the two week preop diet, if I gained weight my surgery would be canceled. A weight gain would prove that I did not follow his orders.
  18. When I first got my band I was 325lbs. Up until about 280lbs I hadn't really felt that bad and considered myself a 'healthy' fat person. As I got closer to 300-325 I started feeling worse. I got banded, lost 127lbs and stayed happily between 200-225lbs for about five years. However, I had constant reflux and heartburn from the band. About a year ago I finally had enough and had some Fluid taken out of my band. Holy crap did I gain weight fast!!! I went from 213 to 293 in less than a year and felt miserable. Gaining weight at the rate of 10lbs per year allows your body to adjust and get used to it but gaining 80lbs quickly made me feel like I was trapped in a fat suit and couldn't get out. I'm now having revision surgery next week on Tuesday, June 7th and I cannot wait! I'm so excited. I just wanted to share a brief synopsis of my journey and encourage anyone out there that is unhappy with their chosen weight loss surgery to never give up!

    Awkward at Work

You feel guilty because society has stated Obesity is something we willfully do. And truly many of us have tried everything short of slitting our own throats as an intervention to slow or retard our weight gains. I have literally be obese since babyhood when my parents , Depression Survivors that they were, overfed me in the belief FAT BABIES ARE HEALTHY BABIES hate coming across that it is somebody else's fault, shifting the blame, but in MY case it is true. Weighed at 1 year the same weight as a healthy 2-and-half year old, and THAT AIN'T GOOD! Oh I am trying to debulk myself but it is not very easy. Lost 50 pounds since surgery but my floppy stretched out skin is going to just be, unless my reoccurent skin breakdowns buy me Plastic Surgery, and doubtful any would repair someone in their 70s. Look what happened to Joan Rivers, went in for something minor, ended up majorally DEAD.

    Random Thoughts

I haven't posted anything on my blog for a while, because I always have to sit and get my thoughts organized and think about what I want to say. And quite truthfully, I have been to lazy to organize my thoughts and try to put them down in any coherant manner! But today I am taking a few minutes to sit and rest (have been cleaning house and baking all day long, preparing to go to work) and I thought, I really need to write down how I am thinking, doing, feeling, etc. It is Friday, and it is my weekend to work. Have to work tonight at 7:00 PM till 7:30 AM tomorrow morning, and again tomorrow night and Sunday night. So my weekend will be totally taken up with work. Will get off Monday morning at 7:30 AM, and have a couple of days off. I always get frantic before I have to work 3 or 4 nights in a row, trying to get my house clean, my laundry caught up, everything done that I know needs to be done, so that I don't have to worry about it while I am working, and think about getting it done when I get home. (I sleep at the hospital where I work when I work consecutive nights like this weekend. So won't even be home again till sometime Monday morning.) Today I weighed myself and saw that I am still gaining and losing the same 2 or 3 pounds that I have gained and lost a gazillion times since the beginning of December. And I asked myself "WHEN am I going to get serious and really TRY to make it past this stall that I have been in for almost three months now?" It is so easy to try "just a bite" of whatever is handy, or whatever I am baking, etc. And before I know it, I have eaten a couple hundred calories, just "trying a bite"! Today, I have decided that I need to get serious. I know, I have said this before, but today I mean it. I am starting to get concerned that I will never reach goal if I don't REALLY get serious about this whole weight loss thing. I mean, for YEARS and YEARS I have played the weight loss game. Lose a few pounds and then eat something that I know I shouldn't, and start the deadly weight gain again. So today, I went to the (dreaded, filthy, overcluttered, badly needing to be cleaned out) basement, and hauled my treadmill and exercise bike upstairs, where I would have to see them EVERYDAY that I am home, and get on them and do something good for myself! I just last week finished re-painting and decorating our bedroom, and there is now room for both of them in our bedroom. So I am placing them there, and going to MAKE myself get on each of them every day I am here at home. Furthermore, I am also going to start a log, and keep track of how much time I put in on each. I used to have a boss that always said "that which gets measured gets done", meaning the things that are important to you to accomplish need to be measured to make sure you are making progress toward getting them done. So fellow sleevers, wish me well! I need encouragement to get this thing accomplished. I REALLY WANT to make it to goal! I want to make a permanent change in my lifestyle and be healthier and happier. I just need to get off my behind and get serious, and get busy. That's it for today. Hope you all have a great weekend! (P.S. The baking I mentioned is for my daughter. I don't bake much for us anymore, cause I tend to eat it. I made pastries for her card party tonight, but they are ones that don't taste good till after they are baked, so I didn't even try them! Good for me!)

    It's not about the food

P.S., my husband still loves me at any weight, with zits on my face, with bad morning breath, with greasy hair, with my bad attitude, with weight gain and weightloss.
  23. They told us to actually expect some weight GAIN post op until several days out because of all the fluids they give you and the swelling etc going on.

    Muscle or fat?

@TheRealMeIsHere! It was hard to switch over from bariatric weight loss mode at first. I had to get my mind to accept that weight gain with muscle mass is ok. My goal is healthy. I'm in a female weight lifting class and loving it. You many be over training working out at 7 days a week. You don't want to burn muscle. To build muscle strength, days of rest between is needed. The muscle actually builds on your days of rest...See link http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/dimaggio12.htm

    Any Separations/Divorce after the Band

La Bella were you referreing to me?? It has taken me a long tim to lose the weight because 8 months after my band I got pregnant so I also have a band baby that is 16 months old and it took me after he was over a year old to want to start lossing again, its harder than when we first have the surgery because its all by will power and the motivation is gone because of the weight gain with the pregnancy. I went back in July (7/19) to get a fill and I was 191 and as of today I am 177 I am starting all over and feel great. I am also happy about my separation because it was just full of problems and I was unhappy for a long time before I made my decision. Thanks for the support everyone.
