  1. What suzthebrit said. Just about everyone's experience is normal. I had a three week stall that started at week three. Just keep following your doctor's food plan and the weight WILL come off. I know that, for me, it was hard to comprehend just how "easy" losing weight this way really is. Easy? Well, once you know what you can eat, it really isn't hard - at least compared to dieting alone.

    17 Days Post Op... Vsg

Congratulations, you are doing fantastic! If you haven't already checked them out there are two recent topics in this forum that are really helpful in putting weight loss into perspective; one is "You may be more successful than you think" posted by gamergirl and other has to do with what they call the three week stall. I am 3 weeks out and had that moment today (Thursday has been designated my "official" weekly weigh-in ) where the scale went down by just one pound not the 7, 8 or 9 pounds I have gotten used to. I have found the two referenced topics to really have helped me not have the old "I hate my body" moment I would have had a little over a month ago.

    Vsg & Hiatal Hernia Repair

Hello I'm glad to hear you are doing well!! I also had a hiatal hernia repaired during my operation and didn't find out until my follow-up visit! I'm not sure if it made my recovery harder or not. Apparently it is very, very common! I also agree that wearing something tight actually helps in some ways. Once my incisions weren't sore themselves (just general soreness) I wore a spanx-like thing all the time. I still wear it! Immediately after surgery I wore one that was technically a size or two too big, that way it held me in but didn't add pressure. Good luck on not stepping on the scale! It is very tempting at first! Also, be prepared just in case you hit the "three week stall". Totally normal, but it can still hurt to see it. If you do hit it, just remember "Water, Protein, vitamin" and try not to dwell on the number!

    Stall all ready

Hang in there, it is not uncommon to stall early out. Look up three week stall. I stalled at two weeks for three weeks. Use the logical part of your brain... you can not stay the same forever at 500 calories a day. You are still under the influence of the IV, the drugs, getting your stomach cut out and your body is pissed and/or confused about what you have just done to it! In a while, whenever she is ready, she will let some weight go. Drink your water, follow rules and chill out. Its going to be a successful ride, if you follow the rules, but weather you enjoy it or not, depends on you! Its not going to be just how you want or imagine it to be!
  6. Three week stall is very normal!! Everyone gets it
  7. Mine is still going strong. This week, I finally put the scale away and have not been weighing myself everyday as I foolishly had been doing. I really expected to see some sort of drop this morning, but nothing. I'm honestly devastated. I'm walking everyday, keeping calories around 800 or less, drinking water. I started out with a quick 17 pound drop after being sleeved on 8/3 (SW 275, CW 252). I know the 3-week stall is real--how long did it last for you until you started dropping? I'm losing my mind here.
  8. I am writing this because I've been complaining about my lack of weight loss and stall. I went to see my Dr yesterday for my 6 week follow-up. I have finally broken the dreaded three week stall that started the day I started on solid food which was the day of my two week check-up, it lasted for almost 4 weeks. According to her scale I have lost 4.5 lbs in just the last few days. I was still discouraged with the low loss, but she was not unhappy at all. They are aware of the three week stall, she also made me realize that the pounds I lost prior to surgery are and should be counted as surgical loss. Many people don't lose any weight prior to surgery and therefore enjoying a sudden drop. I have less weight to lose than many others, so my loss will be slower. She was so encouraged and made me realize that I am already over half way there to meet her requirements. Using her little calculator and making all these configurations, she said if I lose 50% of my excess body weight(average) I am over half way there, although the nutritionist and I have set a lower weight, she said if I lose a mere 20lbs, I will be what is considered a successful sleeve according to national averages. So my current 29lb loss is over half way??? I do not plan to stop at another 20lbs, but it was encouraging to know how well I am doing and will do since I am just 6 weeks out. Her visit was just what I needed. I love my Dr. :-) Thanks to all of you who gave me encouragement when I was feeling down. That's why I love this venue.

    Stalled for 2 weeks!

the only thing you did wrong is to not learn about the three week stall and how normal it is BEFORE having surgery. Use the search box here and look for "three week stall" "third week stall" or something like that. Or you can even Google "three week stall vsg" and you'll learn all about it. Stop stressing, keep following your plan, and stay off the scale for a while. Everything will be fine.

@@Dknal2 that's an amazing weight loss! My dr has me come weekly for the first six weeks post op and he said my weight loss was pretty rapid and he wanted to see it slow down because I'm loosing ppm and ffm a little to rapid:/ you are kicking butt tho! I was hopeful to see a one on the scale for the new year but I'm sitting steady at 207 and I've been warned of the three week stall- so I guess I'll get there eventually when I get there lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. @@boosh10 - I just got out of my three week stall. I don't want to do another one :/
  12. But kids...no boot camp this early. Thats for folks out some months. In a quick nutshell, because I'm heading to the ballet with a hot date (my 7 year old LOL) Remember that diet you did to shrink your liver? Your liver shrank..and then you traumitazed your body with surgery and it went all gaddly goop. Then you started feeding it Clear Liquids and maybe even solid liquis or puree's but not your normal routine. At three weeks your body says....wooooo baby, what the hell is going on? It then sends fluids to the liver to fill it back up again, and tries to find balance. This is the "three week stall" which is common to 99% of patients. No need to panic Keep the course and you'll see a drop next week.

    So Dissappointed

Never fear. You've hit whats commonly known as the "3 week stall". During this week to two week period, you will see very little to no weightloss but you'll start seeing INCHES come off you. There are numerous posts on here about the three week stall you can search and read on. Just have to wait it out and keep doing what the doctor told you. I lost two pant sizes during my 3 week stall. So keep an eye on the inches!
  14. three-week stall for sure. Happens to probably 90% of us. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. It'll eventually break (usually takes 1-3 weeks) and you'll be on your merry way again...
  15. Totally the three-week stall. It lasted a bit over a week for me and then WHOOOOOOOOSH the weight came flying off. I'm averaging a bit over 4 lbs. a week now (hooray for the honeymoon period!) and 59 lbs. from goal. I know it'll slow down as I get closer to equilibrium, but for right now I love it. No te rajes!!
  16. There are several thousand posts about something called the 'three week stall'. It happens usually within the first month post op to the majority of people who have the surgery. Your body is simply taking time to adjust itself. Most of the time there really isn't anything you can do, but to ride it out. Stalls happen. Often times, you can change the way you eat to try and start it back up or add in exercise and nothing will change. They, on average last 1-3 weeks. It'll end when it ends. Just stick to your plan and you'll be fine. I've had multiple stalls throughout my journey, including several (3) that went into the 40-odd day range. They are incredibly frustrating and disheartening, especially when you're no where near your goal weight. You don't get used to them, even if you're like me and get them a LOT. In fact, I just got out of my longest stall yet! I thought, 'this is it, I'm in maintenance' and yet after being in a stall for 46 days I lost a pound. Then 4 days later I lost another pound. So my body just wants to lose at it's own pace. You're still in the beginning of your journey and your weight loss WILL pick up again as this stall is extremely common! Just keep to your plan and it'll break eventually!
  17. It's completely normal and happens to most of us. Search for "Three Week Stall" on the site and you'll find tons of info. Personally, I stalled for almost 4 weeks during my 2nd month. It drove me CRAZY but I was relieved to know that it is just a part of the process.
  18. Stalling at three weeks out is completely normal. It happens to everyone. Use the search function here and look for "3 week stall" or "third week stall" or "dreaded three week stall" and you'll see what I mean. Keep following the program your doctor gave you and stay off the scale for a while - that will help you stress less about it, because there really isn't anything you can do other than wait it out. Good luck!

    Stall [emoji15]

I was the seventh and just about to post this exact same thing - I had lost 14 pounds at two weeks post op ( I started at 223 so the slower loss is expected ) and haven't lost a single pound from week two to week three. I've heard of the three week stall but I too was so used to watching the scale go down - I'm still on purée and was on liquids for two weeks- all I've had so far in the purée stage is cream of chicken and mashed potatoes one time and an egg one time ( I couldn't even finish half the egg) so I haven't "cheated" per say - this sure is annoying to say the least- I was hopeful to see a one on the scale for the new year and at this rate I'll be lucky to even loose a pound :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Stall?

almost everyone has that early stall soon after surgery (it's usually the third week, thus we call it "the three week stall", but for some it comes earlier or later). Just stick to your plan, stay off the scale for a few days, and know that it will break and you'll be on your way again. It'll last 1-3 weeks. Mine was weeks 2 & 3 after surgery. During week 4, it broke and I dropped like 6-8 lbs almost overnight. P.S. if you do a search on this site of the three week stall, you will find something like 17,500 posts on it. And no, I am NOT kidding.

    These stalls are no joke!

Five days is technically not a stall. Im on a three week stall so far and I must say, it has been completely demoralizing. I really feel for the people that have this go on for months. There is more to it than eat less than x amount of calories and exercise for sure. It is so easy to encourage others to stay positive during a stall but when it’s happening to your own self....not so much. I’m tempted to just not weigh myself for a few weeks because when I see the same weight or worse, it’s up a pound, I want to cry. Sigh.
  23. I was sleeved on May 6/2010. Everything was fine until I star the third week when I stall, now this is my 5th week that means three weeks stall (and counting). I went to the nutritionist last week and we review what I'm eating but the only adjust was to replace the snacks for the protein shakes, I'm eating right, I'm drinking most of the time my liquids and I'm exercising. this is what I think I'm suppose to do but it is not working. Any suggestions? Somebody with a problem like this? Thanks.

    The relief of the revisit

I haven't had anything bother me.. I must have a cast iron sleeve! Haha I can sit and eat watermelon for days! It's 90% water anyway! At least up to now I haven't come across anything that really bothers me. As long as I measure everything I have been lucky I guess! Down 57 pounds and only hit one three week stall!

    No weight loss !

virtually everyone stalls at the third week out. Do a search on these forums for "three week stall" or "third week stall." Keep following your program and you'll start losing again -- but be patient. And get ready because there will be more stalls in your future. The only way you can avoid them is to stop weighing yourself so frequently -- that way you won't know when they happen! If you plot out your weight loss as a graph, it will not look like a smooth slope downwards. It is going to look like a bunch of randomly sized stair steps.
