Oh my gosh, seriously! The doctor assured me me today that it's normal and will pass...eventually. Until then, ZzZz. On a good note, my 3 week check-up went really well

    Nausea made better by eating

i get nauseous if i am hungry. I also get very hangry!!! If I am not going to be able to eat for a long while, i will at least drink a protein shake to help with the hunger. I am only 5 weeks out. I try to stay on an eating schedule of 3 times a day and a small snack of fruit in the afternoon and a protein shake a couple hours after dinner

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Just got my surgery date! 6/7. Two weeks! Eeeeekk. I'm excited and scared all at the same time. Mine will be outpatient in Birmingham, AL
  8. I second that - safe travel and comfort in Mexico honey. Tomorrow will be one full week of liquid diet. I may be imagining it, but I am sure my bra cup seems a little looser 😂. I'm going to brave it and step on the scales tomorrow morning......
  9. I couldn't find this topic when I searched back pain. I lost 40 lobs before surgery, and a week after surgery when I tried to go walking I got a stitch in my back. I've tried not drinking while I walk, not drinking before I walk, not eating or drinking before or while I walk, and 2 months out I still can't walk from the parking garage into the clinic to see my doctor without my back hurting. The longer I walk the more it hurts and the longer I have to sit before it stops. I know my spine and the muscles have to adjust to the new weight dynamic, but this didn't happen with the 40 lbs pre-surgery and when it started I hadn't lost additional weight yet. I've lost an additional 20 now. I'm getting married a month from today and I'm afraid I'm going to spend my honeymoon in the room instead of exploring Toronto.

I am SO TIRED. Is anyone else not able to shake the fatigue? I'm just over 3 weeks out, on puree and eating more calories - roughly 500. I usually get my Protein goals in. liquids are hit or miss, but I normally hit that or close on most days. Maybe dehydration? Not sure. But, man, I could sleep all day.

Food Portions - 6mos post op

Every plan and dr is different and my dr says that between 6 months and a year that the oz should be 8-12 with just 3 meal per day. I also have calorie goals instead of just oz though and at 6 months it was 1000- 1200 but the calorie goal was more individual based because if you were not stalling then you could maybe be at less but if you were stalled for more than 3 weeks then you would increase the calories by 100 per week. It was never decrease which hurt my brain because I so wanted to do the opposite lol.

    September surgery buddies!!

Wow, you are doing amazing!! Thank you for sharing how you are doing. I keep wondering how our group is progressing. You look wonderful and sounds like you are on a great track. My progress has slowed down sooo much. I even adjusted my goal to just hit normal weight so that it would look closer and help my brain mentality. I am really close but I sat at the same weight for almost 2 months and just last week had a nice 5 lb loss all at once. So I'm guessing it was the breaking of the stall at last, But these last 10 lbs and hopefully more might take me another year at the rate I'm going. My restriction is still the same, which was never very restricted to begin with. I'm still not super hungry yet which I'm happy about. My hair loss is slowing and I have baby hairs sprouting up in curls which looks weird but I'm happy to have them. I need to get back into the positive mindset because these last few month of no loss or very little loss has been depressing and I need to start appreciating all the good changes. Thank you for updating though and I hope more people come back and update too

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Good morning to all, I am on my third day, I just happened to start mines 3 weeks earlier than my surgery so this is my test week but so far so good, it's been hard it's been testing and trying I cheated yesterday just a Teensy winsy bit but I'm back on it this morning and I have to be determined like when they told me I had to stop smoking after smoking for years, I just cold turkey quit so I guess I'm going to have to do the same thing with this liquid stuff. Again good luck to all.
  14. @ShelleyBelley Hang in there hun. Yes, I would have thought that a smooshed up banana would have been fine too. When the surgeon gets to see what is happening it all may make sense then. Yoghurt is something that I struggle with after my RNY. Other kinds of food should be more problematic but no. Maybe three baby sips of fluid and stop after that will allow things to go down. You eat what you can even if it is pistachios Sucking on an icy pole (freezie) or ice lolly what we in australia call an icy pole (lemonade) is my favourite. Hope I didnt just mangle the language but I hope you know what I mean. You can also get Hydralyte Ice Blocks from a chemist and suck on those. Vegies in a slow cooker for 6 hours onion, celery, carrots, sweet potato, tin of kidney beans and tin of tomatoes and a litre of vegie stock is tasty. You would need to blend it up. Then again if a banana doesnt go down........ Mind you I portion it up and put it in the freezer so that it is ready to go when I need it. I hope that the coronation and all that went on in the UK was a distraction of sorts for you. Are your children of the age where they can look after you a little bit? It is Wedesday here now. Hours away from your procedure ??? Looking forward to further recovery for you. You got this... xx
  15. I have just returned from a three week holiday in Greece and I am exactly the same weight as when I set off. In my past I could add 7 -14 pounds to my weight. I walked around in my swimwear and did not need to hide behind a towel. So liberating

    Pouch reset?

The best advice I can give it to determine your BMR. This is the calories you need to sustain your current weight and conditions. There are calculators online to help you determine your BMR. From there I would log everything you eat, drink, take for a day or two to see if your calorie intake is above your BMR if so, cut back. There are also calculators that tell you your BMR and what calories you should be consuming for a specific weight loss per week. I think a lot of people regain weight or have trouble losing that last 10 pounds because they get comfortable and start grazing. Portions trend up a bit and before you know it, you gain back a little. So, rather than trying a reset, liquid diet, any kind of diet, Id work on getting control of calories in or increasing exercise. Good luck!
  17. Hello I have had a lot of success after my gastric sleeve. Been six months since surgery . I got to a normal BMI the first week of May. Haven’t lost any weight since. I am by no means complaining. But my goal is to get my bmi around 23.5 so about ten more lbs. reasoning for this is because I heard some people tend to gain a little weight after surgery once they meet their goal. I want to keep my bmi in normal range hopefully for the rest of my life. Anywho, has anybody tried the pouch reset? Does it work? Would it help me to make progress towards these last ten lbs? Thanks!

    Gastric Sleeve to SADI-S

Not sure what to say about how to get your insurance to cover a revision, but if you're having reflux problems then maybe have Bypass instead. I had the Sadi-S myself, and have lucked out that my EOE didn't cause the acid issues to get worse (I have acid issues at night due to EOE a.k.a Eosinophilic Esophagitis). If you do get the Sadi-S here's some advice... 1. don't go too long without something in your stomach even if it's applesauce or fruit, etc. because if I wait to long inbetween eating my bowels decide to empty everything in them. (TMI, but you should know so you can avoid it happening to you) 2. Always take a probiotic every day because it helps with keeping you regular 3. I don't know if it's a common thing for Sadi-S or other surgeries or if it's just me... but I haven't been able to throw up since my surgery... 3 years ago (and yes, I've been sick and dry heaved for hours, but couldn't throw up). 4. having any WLS with a malabsorption factor gives you a 3% chance of developing a wheat allergy or Celiac's (I got the wheat allergy because my luck is ****). And, 5. I don't know if it's just a DS or Sadi-S thing, but there is a chance after surgery that you will vomit old blood (if this counts as vomiting then this is the only time I've thrown up since surgery. It happened three or four times while I was in the hospital after surgery. They didn't warn me and it scared the **** out of me). Anyway, yeah... I'm happy with my surgery choice, but if I'd had another chance I think I'd have gone for the original DS since it has slightly better weight loss results. I had the normal gain back you get going into your third year and straddle between 188-193 which I've been for 9 months. Also, any time you have surgery, ANY surgery, you risk the chance of health problems popping up that you would have got a little later in life. I developed Mast Cell Activation Syndrome after my WLS and it's been a b***h to deal with. I mean, technically the doctor told me she thinks I probably already had the beginnings of it before the surgery and the surgery itself just... made it progress to a more severe case (apparently they noticed a trend in people with EOE developing MCAS so it was pretty much going to happen anyway). But still. Health issues can pop up after surgery. So just be aware of it. Hopefully everything goes well for you and sorry for the word vomit.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I totally totally understand exactly what you're talking about mine's is two protein shakes 3 to 4 oz of protein two cheese sticks and plenty of water I'm doing that 2 weeks before my surgery and then a week before my surgery all liquid I started 2 days ago 3 weeks out because I needed to try myself to see if I can do this and it has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do my stomach growling I just been trying to just eat the Popsicles I've only been able to eat the meat in the green beans and it is hard it's a mental thing and today I did fail that's why I started early just to see my mental state of mind but it is hard but don't give up because you have waited so long to go through this and wait for your surgery cuz you don't want to get there and you stay up under longer than normal because your liver hasn't shrunk I'm not sure of what doctor is not requiring anyone to not go through this liquid diet. I googled why it was important to do it. I will get back on track today and stick with it until June 13th thats my day of the my sleeve. Don't give up!!!!!!

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I am doing the liquid diet right now. It is very very difficult. I never heard before of 4 weeks liquid diet. It is really worrisome to me when all nutritionists, doctors and all hospitals differ in their opinions and their requirements. Some do not require any diet but for the couple of days prior to surgery, some allow 1 meal per day, others want all liquid, some ask for one week liquid others for 4 weeks. I understand that these decisions are based on BMI, etc, but why such high variation in requirements? To top this, my nutritionist placed me on all liquids diet two weeks ago and today when I met with my my surgeon he said I can have a small piece of chicken per day and I can replace the orange juice with 2 small bananas. I am really confused so I will continue the total liquid diet. I make it through this thinking that if I fail I will let them know, I will talk to my nutritionist. I also hope that I do not fail in the week prior to the surgery because they need to have a clear view. After all we are all humans, nobody is perfect and I am also sure I will not be the only patient in the world that had a mishap! I am angry, hungry and hopeful for the best! 😀 This is all I can do! Oh, by the way, warm chicken clear broth has been a life savior for me the couple of times when I was ready to fail! I bought these on Amazon, they are called Herb Ox sodium free granulated (chicken and beef) bullion. I add my own salt. They are yummy and a bowl of that will stop your craving and hunger. Sigh…Surgery cannot come fast enough! 😀

    July 2023 buddies

Hi, I got my date for vsg last week, July 31st. Completed all my pre-op requirements and got insurance approval, just waiting for my appointment in mid-July to see what my pre-surgery diet will be. I'm excited but also nervous. I've gone back and forth on the surgery vs. trying those new weight loss drugs but i really feel that the vsg is the best long term solution for hopefully getting the weight off and keeping it off. Looking forward to stopping the dieting merry-go-round I've been on for 30 years. I've told my Mom and one friend at work and both have been supportive. Don't think I'll really be sharing it with anyone else. I've been getting support and some really good information on the /gastricsleeve reddit (i'm a Reddit junkie) and watching youtube videos of other people's journey's.
  24. Around 5 months ago (I would've been 5 months PO then as 10 months PO now) I started to get a sharp constant stabbing pain under my left rib. It has come and gone over the months and I mentioned it to my consultant who ordered a CT scan which I'm still waiting on the results for. But its really gotten worse over the last few weeks now radiating to my left shoulder making breathing painful. I've had some nausea and sweating with it also. I went to A+E and all tests came back fine. X ray showed a build up of poop so they diagnosed constipation and after some suppositories I had a full clear out. The pain continued. Ended up in A+E again and they're stumped. Ruled out heart attack and blood clots etc and sent me home. I chased up my CT scan results today but they haven't looked at them yet. Has anyone experienced this? I keep seeing gas pain in search results but could this really be gas again? I thought I was over the gas pain weeks out. This feels a bit different.

Really hoping I haven’t sabotaged myself

First of all, complete agree with this just being a "normal" stall and the best way out is to just stay the course. It will eventually break if you are following your plan and tracking everything as closely as you are now. If you like nuts and want something different for lunch, I usually make myself a salad with 1/4 oz of nuts or seeds (I like pistachios and pumpkin seeds), 2 oz of rotisserie chicken, 1 oz of leafy greens like spinach or baby kale and 1 oz of berries or other lower-carb fruits/veggies like tomatoes, and 1/2 oz of salad dressing (which can be something of your choosing; I like poppyseed dressing but it's a bit sugary. I just allow for it elsewhere in my day). The whole thing is under 300 calories, is well balanced, contatins more protein than the nuts alone and will keep you full longer. Another way to incorporate nuts in a more "substantial" way is to put, again, 1/4 oz of them in a Greek yogurt, maybe also add some kind of lower-sugar fruit like berries. You end up with a meal closer to 20g of protein depending on what brand and quantity of yogurt you're having.
