6 Weeks Post Opt
traceyinflorida replied to minaluvsnick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am eight weeks now. I do not get the slimes as often, but I do get them if I eat just one bite too much. Doing a search on the forum, I discoverd that many people have the same signal from their body that they are full, they burp. Now as soon as I burp, I stop eating (which often happens far sooner than I am ready to stop!) It has worked for me. I am still pretty tentative with food because, as you know, some things go down better than others. But I am trying to sit down to dinner with my family and eat the chicken or fish and a few bites of vegetables. Softer proteins like fish and dark meat of chicken are usually easier to eat. I still have a protein shake for breakfast because I know I can tolerate it and it guarantees I will get at least some of my protein for the day. Also, like you, I was getting pretty dizzy. You are likely a little dehydrated. Try drinking more water. That helped me a lot. -
How Many Calories/Carbs?? HELP!!
Irishbookworm replied to Irishbookworm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been tracking everything so far, I was even before the band. I add exercise and it doesn't seem to help. I was doing the EA Sports Active 5 times a week for a while and that didn't seem to make a difference. Then I switched to hitting the treadmill at least 5 times a week for at least 40 minutes at a time and that didn't make a difference. Now I'm trying upping my calories a little, lowering my carbs, upping my protein and hitting the treadmill 3 times a week now for 40 minutes at a time to see if that works. I think part of what I need to do is stop focusing SO much on the quantity of what I eat and focus more on the quality of what I eat. I had no restriction for a long time as I had gone 4 months without a fill, but, 2 weeks ago, I got a fill of .5 cc and now it seems like I finally have some restriction again, so, I'm hoping that makes a difference as well. -
No, but it happened to me a long time ago with another operation.....went away after a few weeks.

Is This Rate Of Weight Loss Normal For A Guy?
RickM replied to BizTraveller's topic in The Guys’ Room
That must be another guy thing - I was pushing 900-1000 calories within a couple of weeks, though I was able to move some semi-real foods at that time and not just liquids (doc was adding veg to the diet at the 10 day mark because protein consumption was more than adequate at 90g.) -
It will be challenging to get your fluids in, I wont lie to you but just keep it up, very important. I didnt feel hungry for a week or so. I was told I could drink protein drinks as soon as I got home ( next day after surgery) Call your Doc and make sure. Make sure to get your rest and walk as much as you can. Good luck to you!
-
Yes its normal! As far as the protein you can add it right away as long as it is clear, the first week however I don't think is detrimental to drink your protein. You're probably having enough trouble as it is with the clear liquids. Hang in there, it gets better!!!

Weird pain and question about fill
oldiebutgoodie2 replied to browneyedgirl89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your pain is probably the port, but I would check with your dr. to make sure. Are you sure you got any fill? I know some drs do the first fill in surgery, so maybe for you, it just wasn't enough. I don't have a fill yet. I'm at 5 weeks. Get my fill at 8 weeks. But I am following the guidelines of 3-4 oz. of food at each "meal" and 80 grams protein/64 oz Water in between. It is getting me used to taking tiny bites, putting my fork down between bites, and chew chew chew! And even though I don't have a fill yet, I feel satisified, never hungry! So until your next fill, maybe pace yourself and see if that helps. Good luck! -
Hang in there. It gets better! I wasn't able to sleep on my side for weeks. I'm impressed that you were even able to try do soon after surgery. I'm now 7 weeks out, and feeling pretty darn good!

It's finally done
Ready2LoseIt213 replied to Sammie16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is normal! I was in terrible pain for about three days . I could still walk and move around but my abdomen was in a lot of pain... Considering what goes on in surgery I think it's understandable. Good luck to you! -
I'm on week 5 still drinking protein and split pea soup. I've lost 18 pounds I have been walking 1-2 miles a day & swimming the last 3 days. Shouldn't I have lost more than 18 pounds? I'm getting discouraged :-(

Hey guys, So, today has been one week since my surgery and 3 weeks since I started my liquid Optifast diet to get ready for surgery. In the 3 weeks since I started the liquid diet, I'm down 29 pounds. I also had lost 10 pounds prior to starting Optifast by trying to make some of the changes recommended by the dietitian, which means I'm down 39 pounds from my all time high wait from July of 304 pounds. I'm no longer using my CPAP machine, and I'm no longer morbidly obese. I know that I still have a long road ahead of me, but right now I feel like I am envisioning a life that I truly never thought I would have again. I'm actually even thinking of trying to train to run a marathon-eventually. It only gets better from here! Thanks for letting me brag. Bryan:thumbup:

lessofmeismore replied to BentleyJade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
being barely two weeks out and taking a bite of chicken is so risky. and your experiencing symptoms of a problem. I would call but of course its your body. good luck! -
Yes I remember having to cut my protein shakes with extra extra water the first several weeks. Best of luck!!

Well since we are talking TMI,,,I used to be a once a day person in the morning fresh out of bed. Now, if I am lucky I will go twice a week and sometimes just once a week and it is not one of the satisfying ones either. On the flip side it's not like I have to go and cannot. I just don't have to go all that much anymore.

Breyer's No Sugar, Low Fat Question.
Marty McSkinnystein posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 days out. On my list I can have yogurt like lemon light and fit dannon, thinned cream of wheat, in addition to of course, protein shakes and other liquids. So I took about a half cup of this vanilla ice cream which is totally melty because I'm having it so slowwwwwly. Honestly because of the 10 day pre-liquid diet this is the best thing I've had in 3 weeks. Question, how fast will I know if it isn't a wise choice? Will I possibly get diarrhea or nausea later. I seem to be tolerating it so well but of all the horror stories I'm not sure when I'd be out of the woods so to speak. Did anyone have this in the very beginning? So far I had 2 protein shakes (totaling 65 grams of protein today), some water and this. Thanks! -
I am in Texas too! I purchased the Zumba Wii game last week. I worked out for the first time yesterday and was so into the work out. I am excited about using it again.

Hiatal Hernia Question
4myLuvBugs replied to God's Grace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny you post this I'm having the same issue...when I went for my two week post op visit I explained to the nurse about the dull pain and that's when she explained to me that the discomfort was do to my hernia repair...that was the first I even knew I had a hernia repair...it is perfectly normal according to my surgical team... -
I had a fill 2 weeks ago. Of course I followed the 2,2,2, stages like normal. I struggled then and I am still struggling now to keep down anything. I have 7cc's in my band. I plan to call the doctor tomorrow, but I was curious if anyone else has experienced this?
-
Second visit with my surgeon today. July 22 is a definite. No two weeks of liquids before. Just two weeks of high Protein with very low carb. I'm finally truly on my way. Sent from my iPhone using VST

you are a week out so your body is all confused.... please dont drink the carbonation... it can do damage to your band. Have you tried maloxx or gasx? They both come in liquid? Also as CHEZNOEL said...you may be drinking too much too fast... remember during this time to just sip sip sip. You will feel better soon

I'm almost eight weeks out and haven't had a period... Has anyone else experienced this?

I still take Bariatric Advantage citrate caramel chews to the day, six a day. Last week I bought them in 500 mg rather then 250 mg size which translates to taking 3 a day instead of 6 a day. The price per bag is also the same so now I feel like I am getting 2 for 1 on the calcium citrate and that makes me happy. Each bag is about $12 when i purchase it through the WLS Center or 22 dollars when i buy it online through Amazon. Staying healthy with all the supplements really adds up. I do not take any iron in isolation, but there is some in my optimen multivitamin and green drink. Not 100% RDA though, but something small like 20 %. Should I be aware of iron as a man?
